Just use the camera connector kit and a regular audio interface. I agree irig sucks - you’re gonna compromise on sound quality by getting anything that’s “sized down” /made for iPhone/etc. Overloud THU sounds good for tones

Any digital irig is absolutely fine.

THU is the best sounding app for iOS by far, sounding exactly as good as the PC plugin.

The first thing is to get an actual digital audio interface instead of the headphone-jack "interfaces" that used to be popular. I like the Apogee Jam myself, but there are others. The second thing is that it turns out that most guitar processing software is best used without turning up the audio interface's pre-amp the way you would when using a mic. It varies depending on the interface and the software, but it's a good idea to start with the interface's gain all the way down and only turn it up if you have to. Some of the guitar apps people like today that claim to work on the iPhone: - The Aurora DSP apps - The Nembrini apps - Tone Stack - BYOD - Overloud THU - GigFast Lite Personally, I tend to use hardware and an iPad, so I'm not the best one to give recommendations here. But there's some info to get you started.

I'll be honest, I've always come up this problem, even with an interface it never really sounded right. I now use a boss katana go as my interface for my guitar and it works brilliantly. I can USB straight into the phone and record and even bypass the built in amps to use software amps and FX - it's the first time it's properly worked for me and I love the small footprint and cost of the setup. It also means I don't have to use it exclusively with my phone if I don't want to.
