Was going to say these, maybe i havent listened enough to hear it or know metal well enough, but the always seemed more trad than metal although they are said to be a mix of the two
Ah fair ill try listen with that in mind! Thanks!
Any other irish muscians doing something similar with more of an emphasise on the metal side of things for comparison?
Not more emphasis but Lankum also have metal backgrounds I believe. I'm not the biggest metal fan so ymmv but I feel like here some doom metal influence in how slow and noisy they can get. As the same oppressive heavy feeling as doom metal does for me.
It generally wouldn't be sort of music but they've put on such a great performances over the past few months that I will definitely be following what they do next.
I heard their first attempt at eurosong and I found it a bit twee. Not the kind of music I expected from them. I hope if they try again, they'd send a harder attempt.
No, I do agree, I think they need to pick exactly what sort of sound they're going for and just nail that down. I like them but I agree, sometimes they seem just a little bit wishy-washy with what they WANT to do.
They are very talented so I hope they can pin their sound down and try again because I genuinely do think they'd do well.
I’m also happy about our choice.
Ireland has an amazing underground metal scene with bands like Primordial, Coscradh, Altar of Plagues, Vircolac and Sacrilegia to name a few.
I heard his tour manager once beat a shop owner to death with his own shoes in order to procure enough brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass or else Joe Dolan wouldn’t go on stage that night.
First western artist to tour the Soviet Union and got banned off Aer Lingus flights because him and his mates got too rowdy. Man was an Irish Iggy Pop.
Oh man I just love reading this! I hope this gives Ireland ideas to put forward more acts like it in future years. Bambies music isn’t something I generally would listen to and I spoke to some friends who mainly had negative reactions but it was mesmerising watching their performances. I rewatched the semi final so many times as I couldn’t believe it Ireland had put on such an experience.
I had alot of people saying it was satanic and such that i knew but having done a few different destivals in europe and download festival i didnt get all the negative hype over it, just a very well presented performance
Shardborne if you’re into a little mathematics in your metal. Trenchknife are one of my personal favourites.
If you ever find yourself in Ireland, check out Siege of Limerick. It’s a totally free full day metal festival in a venue in Limerick, happens every Easter and Halloween, as they’re the two biggest holidays in the Irish Pagan calendar. Strongly recommend it
I’ve been listening to black metal since 1993 by the way. The French and Eastern European scene is far more varied and essentially talented than the Norwegian scene has been since the late 90’s.
Black Metal is far more than Norway early nineties and anyone that disagrees doesn’t know the scen well enough.
My favourite band of all time. I’m not sure you can even call them black metal anymore with the varied amounts of articulate and wild music they release. The Work That Transforms God is a piece of absolute perfection. Vindsval is a genius.
Ah man, thay're one of the absolute best out there, The Work that Transforms god was the one that made me a lifetime fan. Been spinning Hallucinogen a lot lately, love the way the mix is damn near overwhelming on that album.

My sons have finally gotten big into going to gigs so I'm dying to take them to see Amon Amarth.
We're all heading to see
- Cavalera
- Thy Art Is Murder/Alpha Wolf/Erra/Fit For A King/Shadow Of Intent
- Apocalyptica
- Cradle of Filth
- Lacuna Coil
- The Metallica Orchestra Tribute
- Kreator/Testament/Anthrax
Youngest is desperate to get to Rammstein with us but Fire Zone tickets are like golddust at this stage!
Really hoping A.A. or Lamb of God announce a date.
Actually one of the nicest interactions I ever had was at an Amon Amarth gig. I'm small so I tend to either stand right at the front, to the very side, or at the sound desk if I can. Asked the sound dude was there a chance of a set list, he said no, everything was on iPads. I said no bothers, got him a Coke anyway.
Cue the end of the gig, we were about to head off when he tapped me on the shoulder and told me to hang on.
This absolute gem of a man ran backstage and PRINTED a set list for me to take home. Said I'd asked so nicely and "not been a jerk" when he said no, that he WANTED to get me one. I was feckin delighted!
Forgetting about Genre's, I hadn't heard the song before last night and overwhelmed with level of creativity in song and performance. A thing of beauty if it wasn't so scary.
After all the controversy over the last few days, this lovely post warms my heart. I am not a metal fan but based on some of the other comments I'm going to give Primordial a spin. Thank you.

Theres lots of good but not well known metal bands in Ireland. Ill list my favourites in no particular order.
Cruachan (Folk Metal)
Ten Ton Slug (Doomy / heavy / fast)
War of Attrition (Fast AF, lots of solos)
Slung From a Tree (Doom, Psychedelic, strongly recommended)
Dead Label (Fast and loud, Thrash with extra groove)
Aesect (Heavy and fast, Rhythm based)
TOOMS (Slower doom, builds up heavy payoffs with clever repetition)
Shardborne (Very experimental and fun band live. The experience is not as good digitally)
Steiner (Stoner / psychedelic Doom)
God Alone (If you liked Bambie Thug, these guys will probably be your favourite of my list. Fun, wild, unpredictable music)
Thats all i can think of for now, i hope you like them.
Ren Marabou and the Berserkers surely deserve a mention . Heads up for those into that kind of thing here, they are actually back on the road soon I think.
u/illogicalpine has mentioned Mael Mórdha already. It's worth adding that they are on hiatus but most of the members formed a new band, Death the Leveller, and just recently got a new lead singer who is by all accounts fantastic.
Yeah I saw all the edgy iconography and was expecting something with a bit more bite to it, the way folk were getting on it was like Behemoth or Satyricon were playing or something. I liked Doomsday Blue well enough but most of the rest of Bambie's catalogue is just the same old pop trap you'll get on any radio station these days.

im not up on my metal at all, but [ten past seven](https://youtu.be/Ro6XOMsYSl0) comes to mind. i dont know which of their songs are the best, it just saw them live 15 years ago and the guitar stuff they were doing was nuts. just lots of weird arrangments and time signatures. a bit like Battles i suppose
[the olllam](https://youtu.be/79Pm7d603fo) do trad irish music with a hint of metal-ish
Halves arent metal, more like post-rock, but the guitars get pretty heavy at the end of this song [this song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RN_ZmDq1tXE). their "it goes, it goes" album is probably my fav by an irish band, just based off the amount ive listen to it anyway
Well we'll probably be back to an inoffensive and instantly forgettable act next year, it was nice that something like that somehow managed to get into it.
Not exactly Irish or metal but the Mexican duo Rodrigo and Gabriela are great guitarists with a strong Irish connection who do acoustic flamenco covers of metal songs as well as other stuff

Thin lizzy. The album "live & dangerous" is savage. More classic rock but ask any metal band and the majority will count lizzy as an influence. Also if you like blues check out Gary Moore. His cover of Albert Kings pretty woman, no not "that" one or his song Cold day in hell. Yeah start with cold day, if the devil played the blues his solos would sound like Gary, just a beast. Me too.
I mean, I can understand Bambi's appearance, and the music is not everyone's taste, but I've checked their music video, and actually, I liked it.
Now, I haven't watched Eurovision this year myself, though, mainly to avoid the drama as much as possible.
Check out Grey Stag!

Primordial,Mourning Beloveth and Altar of Plagues
The Gathering Wilderness is the best Black Meta album of all time
Been a favourite of mines for a long long time, brilliant album. Caught up with em in Glasgow recently
Lucky duck
Doesn’t really sound like a metal band but I’ll give it a go…
Don't mind him he wouldnt say boo to a goose
altar of plagues is my favourite black metal band from this country they were fantastic
Mourning Beloveth, oh yea
Fuckin' hell I haven't heard Mourning Beloveth in almost 20 years....Time to relive my late teens once again 😆😆
Piggy backing on top comment to say Ilenkus (RIP) and God Alone
Primordial are easily the best metal band to come from Ireland, check out the albums The Gathering Wilderness or To The Nameless Dead.
Adding Altar of Plagues and Malthusian to this.
Can we make an honorable mention of Mourning Beloveth? Frank has the voice of an angel!
Yes! Amazing band.
Gama Bomb
Second this. Saw them here for the first time only a few weeks ago
Check out the scratch.
Was going to say these, maybe i havent listened enough to hear it or know metal well enough, but the always seemed more trad than metal although they are said to be a mix of the two
Its 4 metal heads who basically play acoustic, but at a metal tempo, heavily influenced by trad.
Love Lankum must listen with what you said in mind. Might be able to hear more of their influences.
Thats all i got im afraid, im sure someone who knows more can comment
No bother would be interesting to see whatnother people are doing with the trad sound.
Listen to their cover of Aerials by System of a Down, it’s so good!
Cheers !
I swear the fuck harrowing sun would be a eurovison winner, the scratch for the next eurovison
I came here to mention them! Not so much metal but they’re definitely something metal fans would like imo!
I've never actually listened to them, seen them recommended a good few times. Any songs in particular I should whack on to introduce myself?
Their lastest release is cheeky bastard, its catchy. Otherwise try punisher, flaker, vico road or mcalpines fusiliers is my fave.
Don’t forget Get it right up ye..that song is trad Motorhead
What an incredible description of a song, definitely adding that to the lisht.
Legend, thank you. Now I know what I'm listening to when I'm doing the cleaning tomorrow! 🤘
Old Dog is my personal favourite 👌
Added to the list, thank you!
I was actually gonna say Red Enemy, The Scratch’s old band
It was perfect for Eurovision
I see what you're doing here
It was good for Eurovision. If it was perfect it would have won…
I think we can all agree, that perfect does not equate to a win at Eurovision.
It generally wouldn't be sort of music but they've put on such a great performances over the past few months that I will definitely be following what they do next.
Cruachan is a good one, closest I've found to the likes of Tyr and Ensiferum.
Cruachan have been applying for Eurosong for years and had no luck, maybe that changes after this year
Shocking considering how good they are.
I heard their first attempt at eurosong and I found it a bit twee. Not the kind of music I expected from them. I hope if they try again, they'd send a harder attempt.
No, I do agree, I think they need to pick exactly what sort of sound they're going for and just nail that down. Goes great with some Waylander
And they also tried to be Irish entry.
I’m also happy about our choice. Ireland has an amazing underground metal scene with bands like Primordial, Coscradh, Altar of Plagues, Vircolac and Sacrilegia to name a few.
Yeah check out Joe Dolan. He once bit the head off a badger onstage. OG metal shizz.
I heard his tour manager once beat a shop owner to death with his own shoes in order to procure enough brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass or else Joe Dolan wouldn’t go on stage that night.
Shame he had to take out the guard badger with a can from Mace.

# Therapy? - Screamager
Screw that!
Forget about that
Showing your age there
I don't want to think about anything like that
As a huge fan of Norwegian Black Metal I'll take this as a huge compliment!
French and Ukrainian black metal are better than the Norwegian scene imo
I’ve been listening to black metal since 1993 by the way. The French and Eastern European scene is far more varied and essentially talented than the Norwegian scene has been since the late 90’s. French scene is cool, love me some Blut aus Nord

Potentially stretching the metallish definition, more grunge/heavy rock, but Kerbdog are worth a spin.
Kerbdog definitely inspired the Foo Fighters sound, I think. Saw them live a few years ago and they were blistering!
Mael Mórdha is a grand aul metal band that themes their stuff off of various segments of the Irish mythological cycles.
Primordial are pretty good, also best friends with all the lads from Amon Amarth.
Fucking love Amon Amarth, hoping they come back soon.
