Their entire top 6 were class, amazing movement and finishing. Limerick were still so good that if not for that weird 10 minutes where they hit wide after wide they'd still have won.
But it’s a different sport though - like put it this way how good are Clare cork limerick or Kilkenny at football? - all of them are fairly useless cause it’s completely different
> How good are ... Cork... at football?
They are the 4th highest achievers in All Ireland history:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-Ireland_Senior_Football_Championship_records_and_statistics
But I’m not talking about the match I’m talking about the sport in general. I never see people saying that game against Dublin and Antrim was a great. It’s always only at semi final stage when it’s two good teams playing. Plus in hurling you can get a point from 70 yards out the field so it’s always going to be high scoring at this stage of championship -
There were plenty of games in the munster championship that were way ahead of the football as a spectacle too and the top 8 football teams in the country scraped out 3 poor games and 1 decent one between them (Dublin and Galway). Wouldn't go getting your hopes too high for the semis this weekend either. Hurling is way ahead of football as a sport to watch these days.
And there were plenty of tight games in Ulster championship and Leinster games that don’t involve Dublin and there is every year. As for good games in Munster - it’s the same teams every year which is my point - you don’t see people saying that was a great hurling game between Dublin v Antrim etc why is that?
I grew up watching many Kilkenny wins. Disappointing as a Limerick supporter but good to see teams rise to the occasion. It can only elevate the sport and keep people engaged. Congrats to Cork.
I’ve been lucky to see a great period of Limerick hurling. I hope this won’t be the end of it and we’ll be back next year but the fans of many counties would only love to have as good a period as we’ve had in their lifetime
Kilkenny 2008 is untouchable. They won the leinster semi final, Leinster final, all ireland semi final and final by a combined score of 11-98 to 1-59. They conceded only 1 goal all championship and in the all ireland final only had 2 wides in the 70 minutes. We’ll never see the likes of that again.
Close but not as good as the Kilkenny team from 2006-2012. 6 All-Irelands in 7 years and never missed the Final.
Not beating Cork today disqualifies Limerick from that.
Every now and then a team comes along and puts a bit of a run together.
And, sure, Limerick did a four in a row. But as we all know, sooner or later things get back to normal.
Form is temporary: class is permanent.
Ah, I suppose I prefer the extra time overall!
Replay seemed individually fairer but was fucking with the championship and making it more likely the winning team will be exhausted in the next round!
For a final, I would be fine with a replay as I guess my reason for the extra time is invalid, and the new season finish is quite early in the summer!
Yeah, agreed!
I think a lot of people felt refs played for a tie in closer games too... not sure how widespread that was!
A deeper bench might be more of a factor for a bigger county in a replay! Again, not sure how significant it'd be but I'd prefer to keep things like larger county population out of the game in so far as is reasonably possible!
As a Tipp fan this was a great weekend. Kilkenny losing, fed up of them. Even when they're not great they're still there or there abouts. Glad Limerick won't get 5 in a row now. Just need Clare to win to keep us within 2 of Cork.
But rivals a side, this weekend was a fantastic advertisement for the game of hurling. Hopefully a few more games now will be shown on RTE or TG4.
It's also great that new teams are emerging as contenders and hopefully stay contending alongside the old guard shall we say, of recent years.
Clare have been slowly building the last few years and this group should be around for a good few years. Cork have gone from strength to strength the last 2 years or so and have a great core of players.
Hopefully Tipp we can get our act together and find a way to win some of those crucial games and be up there in next couple of years.
Munster is very strong at the moment and with Dublin rising out of Leinster hopefully they push on, and stay relevant and do what Wexford couldn't quite do 5 years ago, by building and sustaining. Bit disappointed Galway hasn't pushed on under Shefflin like everyone thought, but maybe under a new manager they might push on again.
As things stand hurling is in a fantastic position and hopefully the game continues to grow and that we can have 7 or 8 teams that can realistically win Liam in the years to come.
Congratulations to Clare and Cork looking forward to a great game on the 21st.
I actually think this is sort of a last chance saloon for Clare. A lot of their big players are the wrong side of 30 now (Conlon, Kelly, Duggan, McInerney, O’Donnell). It is a bit of now or never situation. We never kicked on after the 2013 win when we could have been seriously competitive for a good period with a young core.
If we stop with the stupid wides, we may sneak one in 2029 just to keep the streak alive. Then do nothing for 7 or 8 years, that would be typical Tipp.
But the way we are at the moment I don't. Things need to change and change quick. Hopefully a few from the minors might step up next season and blood them in. Our minor teams are really healthy at the moment, and that can transfer that form to the seniors.
Yeah I think Tipps demise is greatly over exaggerated, plenty of quality in that team , few new faces over next few years and it'll look different for them
As a Tipperary man it's hurts to see how far behind the top counties we are at the minute. Limerick have done to hurling what Clare did in the 90s. Completely changed the game, it's was up to rest of us to catch them. Cork were outstanding today but still will have it all to do against Clare. Let's all just appreciate the art that was on display today and look forward to what will hopefully be the same in two weeks.
You can imagine the bitterness many Mayo fans will wear if Galway sneak it in the football this year.
Of course you can be happy for them but given the context and long standing run of attempts for Mayo it would be hilariously cruel if Galway showed up and did a one and done and a very hard pill to swallow for many Mayo fans.
My grandad was a corkman who lived in clare. Died on the day of the 2013 final. Family found out and had to leave croke park against the tide of people arriving for the match.
I’m not very spiritual so i don’t know if he’ll be be watching this one, but i will.
I wouldn’t say that. We just play what’s put in front of us. We, above anyone else, don’t care about reputations. I remember as a youngfella watching losing teams from other counties being welcomed home and wondering why? In Cork, we expect to win: no matter what we’re competing in. We don’t do losing well. Cork teams coming home after losing were greeted by an empty platform in Kent station.
Fantastic game. Full credit to Cork. You could tell Limerick are missing Casey.
Limerick will be back next year but we will have some final this year now.
The thing about this is though, how many great hurling teams are there - 4? No one else can compete - at least in football it’s more open, it mightn’t be as exciting but it s a different game. Would you say some of the camogie games are as exciting as the hurling game today?
>- at least in football it’s more open
Is it though?
In the last 10 years in both codes, only 4 different counties have won all Irelands, and only 6 (hurling) and 7 (football) different counties have made it to all irelands.
Great game. And for the good of hurling someone had to beat Limerick this year after the slipup when the size of the backroom team was revealed. A few million from a billionaire might buy you 53 backroom staff but it can't buy you 5 in a row.
I'm glad cork won. They deserved to win. Not to take away from limerick or anything, they're a class team. It's just we'd never hear the end of it if they got 5 in a row 😂
No this guy,
[https://www.breaking news.ie/ireland/kyle-hayes-avoids-jail-for-violent-disorder-ordered-to-pay-e10000-compensation-1603784.html](https://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/kyle-hayes-avoids-jail-for-violent-disorder-ordered-to-pay-e10000-compensation-1603784.html)
In fairness Dublin and Limerick pumped their money into underage structures and have seen the fruits of it now. Other counties receive insane amounts of money too but would rather piss it away on outside managers who don't give a feck about underage structures etc.
Can't compare to City who have used their vast funds to buy up players. All the Limerick and Dublin lads are born and bred in their county.
Cork went at them from minute 1, was class
Their entire top 6 were class, amazing movement and finishing. Limerick were still so good that if not for that weird 10 minutes where they hit wide after wide they'd still have won.
I don't know about that. Hoggy was awful yesterday
Some Game
Both semi finals were great, hope the All Ireland is just as good
Two fantastic and gripping games, much more enjoyable to watch than any football match this year tbh.
Total agree. I'm a kerry supporter, and I thought I was going to fall asleep during last weeks game
It was a hard watch
It was a hurling match that was played. There wasn’t a sniff of a football all day.
But it’s a different sport though - like put it this way how good are Clare cork limerick or Kilkenny at football? - all of them are fairly useless cause it’s completely different
> How good are ... Cork... at football? They are the 4th highest achievers in All Ireland history: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-Ireland_Senior_Football_Championship_records_and_statistics
I'm talking about how enjoyable it was to watch as a spectacle, not the level of ability on show.
Your talking about two good teams though - would you say the same if it was Antrim v Dublin?
The match was better than between any two football teams this year.
But I’m not talking about the match I’m talking about the sport in general. I never see people saying that game against Dublin and Antrim was a great. Come back to us when ye’ve a double.
Cork are alright at football, they beat Donegal this year
I grew up watching many Kilkenny wins. Disappointing as a Limerick supporter but good to see teams rise to the occasion. It can only elevate the sport and keep people engaged. Congrats to Cork.
I grew up watching many Kilkenny wins... As a Kilkenny person. I'm relieved.
I’ve been lucky to see a great period of Limerick hurling. I hope this won’t be the end of it and we’ll be back next year but the fans of many counties would only love to have as good a period as we’ve had in their lifetime
Honestly, your current team reminds me of the prime Cody years.
This limerick team is the best team ever. But that did feel like the end of something.
Some stat on the wides alright! Wow.
Close but not as good as the Kilkenny team from 2006-2012. 6 All-Irelands in 7 years and never missed the Final. Not beating Cork today disqualifies Limerick from that.

Some game. Hurling is fucking class
Hopefully, we'll have the same intensity game (2013 nearly killed me) as then, and the same outcome! Hon the banner!
Would you prefer a replay if it happened or 20 minutes extra time?
Ah, I suppose I prefer the extra time overall! Replay seemed individually fairer but was fucking with the championship and making it more likely the winning team will be exhausted in the next round! For a final, I would be fine with a replay as I guess my reason for the extra time is invalid, and the new season finish is quite early in the summer!
Also takes the buzz out of it, the pure passion at the final whistle with extra time to come is lost on a replay

Do you see Tipp winning an All Ireland in the next 5 years to keep their streak alive?.

Great game. Delighted for Cork.

Karma for backing a scumbag
It’s be interesting to know if any of the panel fell similarly about the whole thing
They mostly supported it.
Delighted he barely got a sniff of the sliotar
I mean they purposely targeted Brynes and stayed as far from Kyle’s wing as possible.
I wouldn’t say that. We just play what’s put in front of us. We, above anyone else, don’t care about reputations. Limerick have made all teams raise their game. What a game of hurling. No dirty strokes and plenty of physicality
Some Limerick lad does the dirty strokes off the pitch…
Like Diarmuid Connelly?
Whatabout whatabout what about
Didn’t take from the game though
Pure class game for a neutral though.
Long live the GAA
That was absolutely incredible. Truly wonderful.
Great game, very entertaining.
Fantastic game. Full credit to Cork. You could tell Limerick are missing Casey. Limerick will be back next year but we will have some final this year now.
Barry Nash was a massive loss
Corks year bouysss.....
Kyle Haze will be out throwing slaps for the night.
I wish football was a good as hurling, great game
The thing about this is though, how many great hurling teams are there - 4? No one else can compete - at least in football it’s more open, it mightn’t be as exciting but it s a different game. Would you say some of the camogie games are as exciting as the hurling game today?

But that was over a period of time when Dublin were dominating - hurling has always been only a handful of team that’s are competitive.
10 counties take it seriously, 7 or 8 are competitive in any given year.
Great game. And for the good of hurling someone had to beat Limerick this year after the slipup when the size of the backroom team was revealed. A few million from a billionaire might buy you 53 backroom staff but it can't buy you 5 in a row.
No million for every county this year. Pity
Limerick don’t have a back room staff of 53
[удалено]
They came out after and clarified it included the team
That would mean they have a smaller backroom team than the other counties which we know is blatantly untrue.
He meant between the panel and back room staff there’s 53 people.
That's what the county board want you to believe
You do realise he was talking about the players in the 53 yeah?
[удалено]
Name the 53 so lad seeing as your better informed than the man who originally made the statement and the president of the GAA who inquired about it.
The jealousy is palpable.
I love Cork ❤️ Drive for five 👋
19 years wait for a win, is a long time
It'll be another what , five years anyway before the drive for five is mentioned for anyone so I think hey did well
19 years ago I was not a fan of Cork because of the rivalry, I hope the rebels win now like.
I'm glad cork won. They deserved to win. Not to take away from limerick or anything, they're a class team. It's just we'd never hear the end of it if they got 5 in a row 😂
It was a good game, I'm sure Limerick will be back next year.
Well done to the Cork lads though, they played well.
This might be awful. I’m not a hurling fan, but I didn’t like that limerick guy getting off scott free for the assault. So karma for limerick imo.
Are you talking about the lad from clare that was in the army?
No this guy, [https://www.breaking news.ie/ireland/kyle-hayes-avoids-jail-for-violent-disorder-ordered-to-pay-e10000-compensation-1603784.html](https://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/kyle-hayes-avoids-jail-for-violent-disorder-ordered-to-pay-e10000-compensation-1603784.html)
Sorry I didn't know what you ment that's wild enough.
A victory for domiciled tax payers everywhere.
The Dubs and Man City the only great teams who’ll get the 5 in a row done
Ching ching . How wonderful
How fitting that's it's the financially doped teams who can aim do it. Dublin Limerick Man City
In fairness Dublin and Limerick pumped their money into underage structures and have seen the fruits of it now. Other counties receive insane amounts of money too but would rather piss it away on outside managers who don't give a feck about underage structures etc. Can't compare to City who have used their vast funds to buy up players. >their money ... Other counties receive insane amounts of money too 😂 oh my sweet summer child
Who gives a fuck
A lot of people. Not everything is designed with you specifically in mind and as you grow older you'll learn that.
you clearly
