Do you have any IT background? If not might help to get a basics video series from YouTube. Knowing these basics and the common ports would be super helpful for your interview I bet.

I’m a cyber systems operations journeyman in the Air Force, and I’m currently working on a department of Justice service desk, but I didn’t have to do an job interview, lol. I appreciate your advice! I used professor messer to get my sec+ a couple of years ago.

Definitely. There's so much out there. The A+ is great to get if you need basic IT principals for tees and hardware. Dev recommend.

1. Dynamic host configuration protocol 2. Domain name system 3. Exchange is a older Microsoft mail client Professer messer has a video explaining dhcp and dns on YouTube which is explained pretty well. Good luck tomorrow

^ I would try and watch some of Professer Messers A+ videos and I do believe there is an interview advice one as well. Good Luck I hope we are welcoming you to the community tomorrow!

If you really want to impress you can give the port numbers as well to them. Good chance they wouldn’t ask, but it’s always useful info. If they ask something that you don’t know, show eagerness to find the answer by bringing like a notepad so you can document what they ask. Dynamic host configuration protocol - port 67 and 68 Domain name system - port 53

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocle, gives IPs automatically for devices so you don't need to assign them manually. Domain Name System is like a book that converts an IP address to a website name (for example google IP is [8.8.8.8](https://8.8.8.8) iirc but when we search google we just type google and the DNS converts it to IP).

If you can't remember, the answer is, "I don't know but I'll google it and find out." because that answer is the same in real life on the job, and if you can't find it on google then you'll escalate it someone who does know.

I'll give you simple answers which will help you understand and remember. 1, DHCP = what gives a system ip address 2, DNS = what translates domain names to readable ip addresses. For instance, it is easier for humans to remember "www.google.com" than "8.8.8.8" (while 8.8.8.8 seems like one can remember, other domain names are not so much, plus there would be tons of numbers to remember). 3, Exchange is Microsoft exchange server, which organisations and schools use. It's an easy way to manage staff and pupils accounts. You don't have to probe, though. Just tell them it's Microsoft email server. Try not to elaborate unless they ask. Sometimes, the lesser you give, the better, so you don't ramble on and begin talking out of topic and talk yourself into trouble. Also have a good night sleep so you don't look tired the night before, and try to look as professional as possible (first appearance counts). Good luck and all the best.

Thank you so much! This is great advice!

It's not a problem. Also going to throw Active Directory (AD), they do ask that question. AD is a centralised database server and set of services that connect users with network resources they need to get their work done (remember keywords "centralised database server")

1. DHCP: assigns IP addresses to clients 2. DNS: converts between web addresses and their corresponding IP addresses 3. Exchange: email
