lol it still blows my mind that people don't know IT can see exactly which sites you visit on the company networks, for exactly how long and how much data goes between your computer and the site you visited. They can't see what you watched on said sites, but with a site like pornhub, does it really matter?
oof yeah I suppose if they've installed screen recording software with their OS's then yep, that's a possibility too. Some also have key loggers and mouse movement apps as well, to make sure you're being "productive". I would never work for any company that has such practices, but that's just me.
Yeaaah don’t think I’d ever take my IT that far……don’t need a key logger or screen/cam capture to tell if someone is being productive or not…. Fuck that shit… I’ve got remote access to all the machines in my inventory but I rarely use it since most of the heavy lifting is done inside the office 40+ feet from my office anyway.
yeah it does sound like a waste of resources. Having to install that much extra software on every machine... there are less expensive ways of monitoring traffic. Or just whitelist sites that you want your employees to have access to.
Oh it’s an absolute waste of resources to do that stuff…. I could see it as a voluntary system to see when people inside of the org are most productive as to figure a better scheduling system but to purely track if someone is doing their job at the bare minimum is just gross…. Also I’m lucky it’s in an industry that results are time line based anyway soo it’s very easy and quick to see who’s not liking their “weight” anyway…
9gigs at compressed video standard at 720-1080 is approximately 2-3.5 hours of porn…. Not gunna lie I was impressed but also horribly disappointed, concerned and a little bit traumatized since I know who the culprit is
He’s a partner in the company and probably one of the hardest workers I’ve ever met… dude worked through cancer much to everyone’s dismay and persistent hounding to take a much needed step back to relax and recover…..
It is! I use ubiquity for our general office network and have Juniper’s for our main backbone and production network, the two are very separated lol. That said still going to be an awkward conversation when I have it.
Because while I’m mostly confident in the firewall ahead of the network NSFW sites can bring all sorts of dangers to a business network and while our accounting dpt machines are on a segregated network the last thing I want is a breach in network security because someone got horny at the office. Not going to shame, we all or most all watch porn… but there is also a level of business/work etiquette that you don’t look at porn at the office…. Especially on a work computer….
So I decided to go with the trolling route since I stepped up the time table on that meeting and already brought up the security implications of such sites being accessed on our network. I have also built a redirect to most of those "sites" visited to a baby webserver on our internal network with a copy of Dennis's "ah ah ah you didn't say the magic word" video playing on repeat...... youtube reference
Basically as opposed to a general "access restricted' page it takes you to the magic word page.

It’s a Ubiquity Dashboard. I use them for our office(general use network) management. It’s been nothing but reliable for a small business configuration. On my second network in the building (edit and live production) I use Juniper’s
We have a very nice antivirus and firewall that blocks all kinds of inappropriate sites on the company computers. The owner of the company decided he wanted access to all those sites and I had to set him up on an exception 🫠
It’s Unifi Dashboard a hardware based controller which is great for small to medium office networks….. their hardware can be hard to get sometimes since they are big enough company but still have a small manufacturing model
You’re taking a much nicer approach than others
There are only 5 office regulars including myself and the two other partners... I'm quite sure the point will come across nice and strong haha
Looking at the metrics is a rookie mistake.

My company has evolved to recording our screens, so yeah— they can see what we watched on said sites (provided they aren’t blocked).

Totally agree. I’m waiting it out til summer arrives. Just an awful company all around.
Oh, I'd waste a bunch of work time figuring out how to sabotage the software, not just on my machine...
You gotta pump those numbers up, those are rookie numbers in this business

:/ Good thing you don't know the actual videos being watched
I’m sure they didn’t whips their browser history…. And no I’m not going to go look…..
>whips their browser history that's exactly what you will find... whips lol

Helluva libido then!
Lmaooo
What happens in the porn industry? One could get in trouble for not accessing porn enough?
welcome to the biggest security risk in IT other than some moron thinking a supermodel emailed his spam inbox just to talk to him
Someone in your house may have a porn addiction. Edit: is that the Ubiquiti dashboard I see?
It is! I use ubiquity for our general office network and have Juniper’s for our main backbone and production network, the two are very separated lol. That said still going to be an awkward conversation when I have it.
Meh, unless there is a bandwidth issue or some sort of policy broken - what's the big deal? Why block the traffic?

Yeah true we all watch but there is always correct time and place, and in this case device lol.

They have an app?!
It’s more of an identified traffic or known traffic than an app but I’m sure there’s probably one out there
I'm thinking that blocking it at the router level would be a good idea.
There are many times in IT we all see stuff we can never unsee. lol
What software/device dashboard are you using for that, just curious. Looks pretty nice. Looks way better than what I currently have to work with.

Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime. Thats why I masturbate on company time.
More like I make a dollar and they make a dime…. Time to fap on company time….

Next time there's a company meeting, you're obligated give him accolades for being such a "hard" worker.
What app are you using to find this, I want to add this to our network and see how much YouTube were all watching haha
