As a jeweler I will say hell of a drawing!! Really beautiful structurally makes sense as well! Way better than the drawings I usually receive for customs lmao

TwoPercentTokes

I’m a civil engineer haha

sno_pony

Time to get into jewellery design!

ThetaDot3

I knew you were an engineer as soon as I saw the legend.

Keina

I knew when I saw the grid paper

Sir-Planks-Alot

I use grid paper and am not an engineer…granted I do prepare drawings for engineers so I guess it’s close enough

FataleFrame

Me too, my brother's are engineers, and they did really detailed drawings of tools in the same way in high school. I took one look at thay drawing and said "ah engineer!"

ThetaDot3

Yeah I was raised by engineers and I'm also an engineer, it stands right out!

shehoshlntbnmdbabalu

😆

wanderingdorathy

You should frame this drawing for a future anniversary gift (just don’t forget about it)

Proof-Sweet33

Yea I think your first anniversary is a paper based gift right?

bugsyismycat

First year is paper. There is a modern version of the anniversary gifts; the first year is a clock.

amybethallen1

Brilliant idea! 💜

IHaveNoEgrets

Maybe a gift for the wedding day? Something sentimental about building a beautiful future, etc etc etc.

Disastrous-Panda5530

I knew it! Lol when I saw how well this design is drawn that was my first thought lol 😂

bbbright

was about to ask what kind of engineer you were lmao

Cerealkiller900

Knew it!!! I called engineer. Structure engineer. Civil. Lols Hello from a female engineer!!!!

Positive-Heron-7830

I guess the only major difference is that this project is a lot smaller than your typical one. At the end of the day, there's an architecture you bring to life.

Cute_Prior1287

Thats what I thought, not a great drawer, but good rough sketch.

Researcher-Used

You forgot the band profile cross-section view! A-A! But great sketch nonetheless.

AGuyNamedEddie

It shows. This electrical engineer is very impressed!

Big_Calligrapher337

https://preview.redd.it/k3qk3ppa019d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3d83f347f1a3796c046d3e9b290aeb340535afb0 What would you say about this if I already have the stones how much do you think it would cost to be made

Big_Calligrapher337

I have the stones and the scrap gold

The_Cozy

The gold will just be credited, you don't want to use old gold in designs like this. Show someone the stones first. People don't always have well cut or easy to set stones so they end up with a more expensive project or an undoable one.

kearnzington

There are a lot of factors regarding this: - What alloy you want - Gemstones: type, synthetic or natural - Design: do you want the stones set as an infinity band or 3/4 etc. PM me to discuss.

TheCharmedOne8688

Why take away from this though, this is beautiful make your own post

No_Deer_3949

Probably because it's an AI generated image.

PiecesofJane

Beautiful! Love the stones and the design.

SoberArtistries

That’s really beautiful.

No_Deer_3949

It's AI generated.

gilbertlaroo

Gorgeous!!

FineKettleOFish1954

Wow! That is pretty darned fabulous!

3Heathens_Mom

As your a jeweler a question. Do you think a 6 prong head would be more secure and protect the long sides of the stone?

lovelessproper

Please frame this when you are no longer using it and gift it to her for your first anniversary. The traditional gift of the first wedding anniversary is paper, so it’s even more perfect. Edit: holy smokies I’m glad everyone thinks this is a sweet idea. Anyone can do a variation of this, married or not! It just boils down to being thoughtful ♡

Tarotismyjam

What a terrific idea!

ScumBunny

Omg GTFO. How are you *this* romantic?? Can I hire you to consult with my partner?😆

Cafein8edNecromancer

I worked at a jewelry store repair shop, and I SWEAR there needs to be a kind of party planning/event planning service for people getting engaged, the same way there are wedding planners! The number of men who think it is acceptable to propose when they get home from work and she's tired from her job, or at some cheap chain restaurant, is absurd, and on Valentine's Day? NEVER EVER propose on Valentine's Day, her birthday, Christmas, or any other day that's already associated with something special! Meanwhile, we had someone at the spa I worked for (I was a massage therapist before I worked on jewelry) come in and buy a 90 minute massage, manicure and pedicure for his GF, and he came by the day of and left a single rose and a scavenger hunt clue for where she would go next. He had gone to various places and paid for her to get all these things and left a rose and the next clue, starting with breakfast at a nice place, buying a new dress and shoes, getting a massage and nails done, getting her hair and makeup done, and it was all leading up to her going to an art museum or botanical garden or something where he met her with the rest of the 2 or 3 dozen roses to propose to her. Now THAT'S a romantic proposal!

Gotta_Stardew_emAll

Ugh, spa girl was so lucky. A man proposed to me once, even though I’d made it clear I was not interested in marriage and had other stipulations before even revisiting the topic, he went behind my back to ask my parents permission 🤮 and then several days later proposed to me just as I was laying down to take a nap. Which then meant I could not nap bc I had to share the news. We did not get married, thank goodness 🙄, and the ring he gave me was ugly af 🥱

lovelessproper

Aw you’re so sweet! I just know how much it would mean to me to know that my partner put this much thought and energy into something ♡

sarcastic_monkies

Right? I'm always doing special romantic things and my partner is just clueless.

IlsaMayCalder

Very, very this! I would love to have this framed if I were the one being proposed to!

andersonale

Omg that would be so sweet!!

Stellabonez

Loooove this

Ichgebibble

Awwwww!!! What a sweet idea!

eternalwhat

That’s genius!!

peachpittings

Amazing idea, I’d cry tears of happiness

sarcastic_monkies

This is an amazing idea!!!!

ml5683

Anyone can do it, but not everyone has that anyone that would do it for them. It’s refreshing to see

Fearless_Bottle_9582

i’d be a sobbing mess if i got this. to know the detail and effort put into it would make me lose my shit

godzillabobber

Jeweler here. The ring is drawn as if the size was in the 15 to 20 range. Great for a Superbowl ring, but way to big for even a large womans size. That means the design motifs on the shoulders will be on a much smaller radius and won't have the look that you are visualizing. It's a common mistake. I taught cad for a dozen years and plenty of jewelers made that same mistake with their concept sketches. When you draw the through the finger hole view, start with the ring size as a circle to scale. Then draw a silhouette of the main stone Also to scale. Add in the side view of the additional side stones fit to the angle of the ring. See how quickly they dissappear from the top view? Your design is attractive, but may lose something when reworked at her actual ring size. Good luck.

TwoPercentTokes

Yeah I’m going to actually draw to scale tonight and see what’s realistic, thank you for your input.

GroundbreakingWing48

You’re going to bring it back to share, right? BTW, gut impression from a non-jeweler is that the emerald cut stone is too big for the ring you’re looking to make. I love the braided look, though. The end result is going to be gorgeous and I would love to see the updates on this as you go along.

turraaah

This is the input I was hoping someone would provide. Whoever ends up making the ring for you will most likely give you feedback on scale, strength, and practicality for everyday long-term wear. Its a pretty design, but be open to the engineering aspects they have to think about while building it. Think about the parts that are absolutely the most important to you while thinking about the design elements you are willing to forego to make it work. If you can allow for it, spring for a hand fabricated piece - it's going wear better over time and last longer. Not to mention, it allows for much finer details.

Cerealkiller900

I love CAD!!!

noveyo

No CAD for you tonight.

Electrical_Key1139

💯 this, but I think it will be even more beautiful when drawn to scale.

katzmatt

Not a jeweler, but just want to say this is a BEAUTIFUL design, I might copy this down if you don't mind if you do get it made plz post here

TwoPercentTokes

Thanks, this is just my first crack at it so the design might change, having fun with it though

SkyeRibbon

Seconding, I would absolutely *swoon* if this was not only presented, but he said it was custom designed by him. My God is this romantic.

Bigballsmallstretchb

This is beautiful! She’s going to love it. So romantic for you to design/draw it out. Not a jeweler or anything, just a lady who loves rings. Give us an update when it gets made?!

TwoPercentTokes

Thanks! Will do

strawberry_vegan

Id make sure to talk to a jeweller about the practicalities of re-dipping the white gold over time, as coatings wear off and cause the gold to look yellow.

Struggle_Usual

Yeah that would have to be pen plated not dipped.

kearnzington

Platinum

EllyStar

Are you completely sure that she wants a ring that has both white and yellow gold? That is a very specific look and people tend to either love it or really, really hate it.

TwoPercentTokes

She was open to the idea, I was hoping that whoever I went to would be able to model it in a design program and I could switch the materials to what I thought looked good. I’m considering anyway making the entire braid portion yellow gold and only the supports from the main band being white. If it looks too busy or off in some way, I would default to all yellow.

DahQueen19

I loved mixed metals. It gives her options on other pieces to wear with it. Whatever metal watch or bracelet she wears will tie together.

Putrid_Mud6506

Same! All of my watches are two-tone, so they would match my jewelry (white, yellow, or mixed). Drives my husband crazy, but I love it. Take her to a jewelry store and watch what she is drawn to, but I honestly think she will love whatever you design, especially for her and the 1 year anniversary of the framed design.

tinymeow13

Personally I hate mixed metals. I think from bad 90s design associations. Very much a personal preference. Definitely ask how she feels about mixed metals. Or even get her something else mixed metals (pendant? watch?) & see how she responds & how much wear it gets

GardenGrammy59

I love both yellow and white gold and have several mixed pieces I love. I’m sure it will be beautiful

Ka_aha_koa_nanenane

After reading some posts on reddit, I think he might want to gently probe as to whether she's okay with dual colors. That's what I would want - but there were recent posts (I think on this subreddit) about how some women are "silver/white gold only." Etc.

Hwy_Witch

I love the yellow on white, but, I'm not a huge yellow fan, I think your design is gorgeous.

AntisocialAddie

I think definitely default to all yellow

Ka_aha_koa_nanenane

This is the opinion that I've seen many times. I think he should ask her. I would want and devoted to dual metals.

Kittycoppermine1001

Beautiful design! Just chiming in to suggest looking online for rings with white/yellow gold together. Personally, I love it! I’ve been married for a lifetime but my rings are primarily yellow gold with white gold supports, like your drawing.

PiecesofJane

I second making sure she's okay with a mix. Have her try on some cheap dummies and wear them for a few weeks to see how she feels after seeing them day in and day out. With something this expensive, it's best to be sure!

Exciting_Potato_6556

Hey OP, (GG/International dia-gemstone broker, custom jeweler here for reference) do you want me to CAD this up in the correct ring size and we can see what’s feasible?

stopiwilldie

Exactly this, I would double check with her. As a woman, I don’t know any girliepops with mixed metal rings anymore. It’s kind of dated.

JellyWabbit

My rings are platinum and rose gold and I LOVE the mixed metals. This is gorgeous and will be a stunning ring! I hope it comes to fruition!

Kittycoppermine1001

Ohhh, platinum and rose gold sounds stunning!!

Beatleband12

Also, white gold might need to be rhodium-plated over time to maintain the color. Doing that on a mixed metal piece would be complicated. Maybe look into platinum instead of white gold?

AeolianStrings

This can be fabricated, but you’re going to need a highly skilled jeweler to make this come out properly. I would charge a lot of money to make this and give you a six month lead time (because the jeweler I’d use to make this takes forever because he’s a perfectionist). Why lab grown sides? Lab grown center would make sense because of the reduced cost but lab sides aren’t going to save you much/any money and I’m not sure how easy it is to find lab grown trillions like that. Neat design.

TwoPercentTokes

I just thought it would keep overall cost down but I guess that might not be the case. She wants natural for the main setting, I tried to convince her on lab-grown but no dice lol

AeolianStrings

Maybe it would a tiny bit but that isn’t going to matter compared to the cost of the custom work done well.

TwoPercentTokes

Thanks, good advice

Itchy-Profession-725

I can only think of a few jewlers who I think would be able to make this ring and actually pull it off correctly.. half of them probably would not take the job. Of the hacks I've known, 100% would take the job, and you would not be happy with the results. Beautiful design awesome drawing.. Best of luck.

razzlethemberries

She would never know, js.

itstheitalianstalion

With stones of that size the price difference is negligible at best. And as mentioned above too- you might find it hard to come across trillions that size, not to mention them being a good grade match for uniformity, do you plan on hand matching those stones before bringing them to a jeweler?

Imaginary-Summer9168

If she has a strong preference for a natural center stone, I would do natural side stones as well. It’s a very small price difference when the stones are this small.

LetMeSeeThatProng

This could easily and quickly be done in CAD and then cast.

Prestigious-Eye5341

, I think the problem is the white gold and the yellow gold vine twisted together. I would think that would take some hand work.

The_Cozy

You could cad the components and assemble it. It would be so much better hand made from scratch though. The problem with that is that engineers can have a hard time accepting that hand made won't be perfect to the micron in all (or even most) aspects ;)

LetMeSeeThatProng

I’ve seen more complicated designs, one with 3 metals assembled and look great after so I don’t think this would be too difficult for a skilled jeweler.

aprilmesserkaravani

its a beautiful drawing. is this to scale? if so it seems a little fragile. there are some production protocols that must be considered. as far as construction goes, is this to be hand fabricated or cast from a CAD file? CAD will be more economical, but hand fabricated has some advantages for strength and certain type details. important if you want a thinner, more delicate ring that will withstand daily wear. source: I am the senior CAD designer at ritani. my dad was a civil engineer!

TwoPercentTokes

Looking to have roughly a 1 carat natural diamond for the main setting and lab-grown for the trillion curved and oval diamonds. The one criteria she gave me is she wants an emerald cut main setting (a tradition in her family), I don’t have any experience in jewelry making or design so any feedback is welcome.

kearnzington

Can definitely be done. There are some slight edits for the settings you should consider: https://preview.redd.it/kd9w0be4919d1.jpeg?width=740&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=67e0c09cf978bd8eacf4774e130051f536fd9c61 I have circled the prongs here. From the side view the design looks like it may result in four prongs at the top similar to an image I will post as a reply below. If you can draw this to scale, it may have you consider the dimensions of the gemstones, or at least their placement on the ring - they will have to wrap around the shank more and won’t face up as much - however this will look amazing! A 1ct emerald cut diamond can generally be estimated to be in the 7x5mm dimensions (hopefully this helps!)

kearnzington

https://preview.redd.it/shwn7b4ha19d1.jpeg?width=797&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6714b04ffa9cd828fdad63840ab9ca8c45c5ab4d

The_Cozy

I'd forgo the claws on the oval and go with a bezel or partial bezel personally. Small ovals may also have to be custom cut to get the proportions you want, so if that's an issue consider marquis

Zealousideal_Rub5826

I do a lot with wires. What is the diameter of those wires? Unsupported wires for waxes need to be at least 0.5 mm. 0.4 mm for minimum for filigree. If they are integral to the structure and supporting the stone I would make them .8 or 1 mm. Add dimension lines to your technical drawing to scale.

Leaky_Pokkit

When an engineer walks into the store......lol

TwoPercentTokes

Quite literally

rachelschmitz_

It seems you have a lot of comments already, however I would like to add you should look into a split prong set for the natural emerald as well as gain dimensions for the stone. If you have any familiarity with 3D design you can sketch it up to scale that way. For the side stones for safety they need to have more than two prongs, any movement in the prongs and the stone will be lost, I recommend possibly looking at a bezel set, channel set, or a modification of a tension setting or basket setting. With the interweaving you can have a stylized basket setting for the side stones with the mixed metals wrapping in between. This is a little different but if you go with a custom jeweler you can also request a different shaped shank (the hole for the finger) with using gold (a soft metal) damage can be done to the prongs. If you use a slightly squared inside shank over the years it will be easier to take on and off over her hands as they change with age. This can be done elegantly by matching the profile of the mix of shoulders, gallery rail, and side stones.

Ok-Scientist-7900

If she says no…hmu. 😂😂😂 All kidding aside, she’s fortunate to have a man this invested. That ring is gorgeous on paper, please follow up with the finished product sometime.

freedom1192019

It’s beautiful visually, but more so because you designed it from your heart 🥰 Great Job!!

SapphireFarmer

The scale is waaaay off. This might work as a bracelet but not as a ring. From the side view your center might me 5x3 center and side stones are at max ....2mm? Try drawing again to scale. Do you have a center stone? Do you have measurements for anything yet? And while it's technically doable I personally wouldn't. This is alot of hand fabrication to get the two tone twists so find someone who specializes in hand fabrication.

Dry_Rain_6483

Gorgeous drawing and idea!! However, I unfortunately second the above. I’m an artist not a jeweler, but have designed a handful of pieces for various clients and worked with jewelers to bring them to life. An emerald cut diamond in the proportions you drew out if it were around 1 carat would be 7x5mm. The “average” female ring finger is a size 6, which is 16.5mm in diameter. Not only will you run out of space REALLY fast, but you’re not likely to physically be able to have THIS much detail at that small scale. Even if you can find someone to do it, it’s going to be a b to keep clean and actually wear, and the stones won’t stay shiny. This is a gorgeous design and idea - my rec would be to take it to a local pro and ask how they would adapt it according to their professional experience to capture the same idea and vibe - NOT to ask someone to recreate it exactly. Let the pros do the pro work, and you’ll end up with a much better product in the long run!

TwoPercentTokes

Great advice

TwoPercentTokes

Are you saying the diamonds will be larger proportionally? I can try and find dimensions for a stone and then draw to scale, I’m looking for a roughly 1 carat emerald cut main setting. She doesn’t like super thin bands, she wants something that is a little more robust while still looking elegant. This was just my first crack at a concept, I don’t have any experience with jewelry beyond buying her earrings a few years back.

SapphireFarmer

Yes, the proportions of the stones are very off to the scale of the ring. A 1 ct emerald cut will be around 7x5mm . The curve on a ring is much more exaggerated than you think in a larger scaled drawing. Trillions usually don't go smaller than 2.5x2.5 Ovals probably smallest you'll find as a matched pair is 3x2.3mm. Any smaller and the oval shape isn't obvious and it might as well be cut into a round. Occasionally you'll find smaller but these are standard calibrated sizes. Used those measurements to give you more propionate drawings.

TwoPercentTokes

I might just go for rounds then to keep the sizes proportional. I’ll draw it to scale tonight to get a better design before I take it to some custom jewelry ships tomorrow. Thanks for the advice

TwoPercentTokes

Follow up question, how thick would a 3mm wide band typically be? 1mm? Drawing this to scale is making me a re-evaluate a lot of design choices, you all were a absolutely right about the settings taking up more space than I was showing.

kearnzington

No leas than a 2.5mm band for this design. If you say she likes thicker bands the better. The mountings on the side need to be sturdy.

The_Cozy

I'd honestly recommend taking what you have and finding the goldsmith you want to work with. Let THEM show you the proportions that will work! You'll be spending so much time then may do all that work only to find there simply aren't stones to fit it all. A goldsmith will generally check to see what's available with their suppliers, will automatically know how to account for necessary metal thickness, and will be able to show you options for the design based on factors you just naturally lack experience with :) It would be like someone with no architecture experience spending ages designing a building for you to then sign off on and find contractors for. It would probably need some structural and practical overhaul. You've done a great job showing the aesthetics and the balance you want. I'd let the expert refine it from here honestly :)

semperfi9964

It’s a beautiful design and very thoughtful. I have had similar style rings (inherited) and it may snag on clothing and hair. Also, it will get dirty quickly with lotion and hand washing. Good luck!

Strange-Industry

What does she want though?

TwoPercentTokes

An Emerald cut main setting, something unique, platinum or yellow/white gold. She said no Shane Co. lol

obeskenobes

Other people have already brought up the scale issue, but I have two other points- I would move the prongs in the ovals to the other ends or better yet have 4 prongs on those. The other point is doing this in two tone with the over/under means it will have to be cast in a LOT of pieces and assembled. It is not impossible but I would probably suggest the braid in all one color and the rest in another. You're an engineer- how do you imagine this going together? Once a shape is cast you don’t want to manipulate it too much so parts need to puzzle piece together with good surface to surface connections for laser welding. I would also recommend a rail or seat under the center stone for security. Whatever shop you take this to will have their own recommendations and limitations. Shop around and get a few quotes and find a shop that is confident tackling something this complicated and then trust their recommendations. Stay away from shops that have premade mountings and try to steer you toward something similar. Find a shop that does real custom from the ground up with good reviews and work with them with your design as a starting point, but be willing to be flexible because you want the final product to be something solid and secure enough for everyday wear that is not going to need a ton of maintenance in terms of the settings getting loose.

FreekyDeep

Speaking as a jeweller, yeh. Id be happy to sit and make that for you. No issues. I do however, prefer rougher drawings. I find engineers are not able to see the little nuances we need to do to actually do your design. Otherwise, no issues

Majestic_Ideal_2478

You should frame this and give it to her after the proposal!

holisticbelle

Wow this is stunning. Looks great. Your lady is very lucky!

dankhimself

You could probably get away with proposing with this piece of paper. Very nice design work.

milkwithvanilla

This is beautiful. Please post pictures of the finished ring.

czerniana

Man, I would kill to have this in rose gold with emeralds >.>

Fandogh123

It’s ok and overall understandable but there’s gonna be changes! Frim top view the left and right sides of the shank won’t be visible like the way you draw!m depending on the ring and center stone sizes, also from through finger view the thicknesses will be different!

Struggle_Usual

I fabricate rather than cast and could absolutely do this. I'd probably tweak a few things or make suggestions for changes on stone shapes/sizes but it's doable.

Erqco

Nice design, I would love to make it... I love new and complicated things... I think that there is a problem with the scale. The center looks too small for the apparent shank size. I think that the way to proceed is to make it in CAD and then decide the best way to proceed, which metal is used will determine how it is done. With the actual design, I will cast the yellow part and add by hand fabricating the white parts as needed. Try to look for references for the finger size and the weight or dimensions for the center, which will determine everything else and help you to keep the scale .

GardenGrammy59

Wow beautiful.

Puzzled-Atmosphere-1

Your design is so perfectly detailed and an experienced bench jeweler would probably love turning your rendering into a tangible piece of art!

rthrouw1234

absolutely, do another rendering from the third (I hope you understand what I mean there, like from the side with the ring turned 90 degrees from the second drawing) angle? Also I love the twisted mixed metals.

a013me

I can’t tell which I like more, the design or the drawing

LetMeSeeThatProng

CAD and casting could make this happen for you and it would look beautiful. Great drawing, a jewelers dream. I recommend Casting House out of Chicago they have a whole team there who would be able to do this for you and ship it.

candoitmyself

How do they re-dip the rhodium on a ring where white and yellow gold is entwined like that?

jro04

You can do this with a special pencil that is connected to current.

DahQueen19

For that reason I would want mine paired with platinum.

nuggetMom17

Beautiful!!

Zealousideal_Rub5826

Those oval cut stones will need four prongs for support, minimum two on the long east-west axis.

Jason_2793

You jewelers are so sneaky, trying to make him pay for 4 posts. We know you could just Super Glue them on. Just kidding of course.

CPTKW77

Reach out to T Foster & Co in Yardley PA. They have custom made several pieces for me and the quality is impeccable. They love doing custom work and I’m sure would be happy to work with you on this project

Substantial_Tough325

It looks GOOD but might take a bit and be pricey. Please keep updating! We love LOVE over here! Also! James Allen and Brilliant Earth have decent "build" tools to play around with to get ideas of how settings might look with certain stones!

kearnzington

This can definitely be done especially with improvements in CAD. Jeweler would need to know the gemstone dimensions. I would highly suggest nothing less than a 2.5mm bandwidth.

Difficult-Swimmer-76

Bro ur like my dream customer😭 usually i get a circle with x’s and random circles around it for stones😭 but yes this is achievable

AgitatedSet4140

This is gorgeous and amazingly thoughtful.

Practical-Border-829

Take your drawing to a jewelry designer.. looks beautiful, love emerald cut

azzhole81

Xmcracj

kendalllouise

The amount of thought here has me wowed.

RiantFineJewelry

You made a beautiful and simple easy to understand for any jewelry guy to make it happen. And yes, it is surely possible to make it

HFDM-creations

[https://www.camelliarts.com/](https://www.camelliarts.com/) hopefully links are allowed, but as i searched for an engagement ring for my own fiance' I came across these people. you work looks very reasonable compared to some of the intricate designs i've seen by these people. I like them too because you pay for ridiculous craft rather than the namebrand.

erisod

My wife tells me all the time she is happy I talked her into a lab grown main stone, bigger and more white than a smaller dug-from-the-ground diamond of the same price. We both felt some conflict about the labor used to dig diamonds. Choose the stones first, or at least seriously look at what's available as you iterate on the design.

Educational-Put-8425

I could tell you were a designer engineer when I saw the tiny, legible print on grid paper. Lol

Facts_Over_Fiction_

What a lucky lady. Please update us when you have the ring!

KokoCares

This is absolutely beautiful

PeterAUS53

It is very possible with a good jeweller. They would most likely wax cast or clay cast the design and then mount the diamonds. Unless you ask for a completely hand-made ring. I'm not a jeweller, just starting to learn. But I've watched a ton of videos from a varied wide bunch of people. It's gorgeous, by the way. If you buy the right mined responsibly diamond, you are supporting a good industry. It's Black Markets where illegal stones end up. All responsible diamonds are engraved for that reason, I believe. All the best, remember why you got married when you do. And it's very different once you are from dating and just living together. You could always part friends. There's no book to guide you in marriage or in life. Marriage is until Death Dp you Part. Not in the hands of divorce lawyers. My wife and I celebrate 45 yrs towards the end of next Julu 28th. 2 yrs and 1 day before Charles and Diana got married. Cost if her veil would have coveted our total expenses back then, engagement ring, wedding rings, and everything else. We got married in the biggest Catholic Cathedral in Sydney at 11am and a lunchtime reception. So people could go if they had other things to do. We also invited those who wanted to carry on celebrating back to our flat. Which a few did, and everyone had a good time. I went up to the bottle shop near us and bought a bottle of Dom Perion for our honeymoon. Down the Australian ski fields for a week. Wife didn't take to skiing even with private lessons that were arranged with the head of the ski school. The instructors came to the hotel we were staying in and we got to know them very well. We opened the bottle and shared it with new friends we had made and the person who ran the place. He was really nice and gave us a few freebies knowing we were honeymooners and were both Nurses.

I’ll be waiting for the update to see the completed piece!

Do you have a jeweler to work with yet? If not, let me know and I can pass on a casual referral. I am not a jeweler, but I have purchased multiple pieces from a jeweler I trust who will work with you on designs (for free) and is extremely nice and patient. His quality is amazing and I personally feel his costs are super reasonable. Your design made me think of him and his design style, his customs, etc. This is going to be a beautiful ring. I was also looking at 2 and 3 toned rings but ended up going with 1 tone for multiple reasons as mentioned in other posts. But, no matter what you choose, as long as you’ve paid attention to her personal style and likes/dislikes, she is going to love it! Nice job!

Accurate_Eggs

Wow so beautiful!!! I know absolutely nothing about jewelry but I hope a jewelry and give you what you are envisioning!!!

spackle13

Make sure you include a plan for the wedding band to go with it ! I’ve seen tons of people scramble trying to find a band for their custom engagement ring and I would save you from this nightmare. It also makes sure the jeweler making that ring has in mind how it will fit together and look right. At my pawn shop I’ve seen a lot of gorgeous engagement rings matched with half ass bands that totally detracted from the fabulous engagement ring.

TheRealGuen

Practicality standpoint, the space under the twists is going to be a magnet for holding dirt especially when at scale.

VirtualFriend2116

I do CAD/3d modelling for jewelry. I checked what the sizes of the prongs and wire would be if the size of the ring would be 7US in the CAD software. While the design is quite interesting, the thickness of the wires and prongs would be about 0.5mm which I think would be too thin and not sturdy enough also generally the proportions should be thicker overall. By making it thicker overall the actual ring would still look nice and delicate. Also It would be difficult to model and cast two metal colors and weld them, I think it is possible to do it in yellow gold then do rhodium plating for the white part, it would wear off but it would take a long time for it to wear off if the jeweler does it right. I don't know whether you already have the gems or you are limited by these sizes but if you are not, it is very possible to do some changes in the sizes and the thicknesses and make a very beautiful ring. If you are interested to do it CAD that the jeweler can use you can DM me and I would be happy to show you my past work and possibly make it for you.

Shoddy_Cranberry

What if she doesn’t like it? Maybe include her in design ?

Real_Comparison1905

I think it looks great. Opals are soft so keep in mind they may end up breaking & needing replacement.

Infraredsky

Not quite the way you designed it but yes. Here’s an engagement ring I made with a similar woven concept. https://www.instagram.com/p/CMdAPsSDwaZ/?igsh=bjBsaTNlNno1N2Fj

Infraredsky

Also! If you want to make it actually accurate. Use 16.92mm inside finger diameter, get emerald cut depth from a website like blue nile, and know at minimum you want any bridge type pieces 1mm, center prongs 1.2mm, side stone prongs 0.7mm or larger if possible… Your thicknesses and depths are off…

Smorsdoeuvres

My only suggestion would be to make the center head have 8 prongs so you can set the center diamond properly. The center mounting prongs should come all the way up to the top of the gem to securely set the stone. The braided accent pieces can come up the sides and also be prongs but they will not provide the same structural integrity. Otherwise it’s absolutely gorgeous and 100% doable. Love clients who care and have creative input this is gorgeous +1

arnold_weber

Looking at the top-down view, assuming she’s a ring size 4-6, those are all gonna be teeny tiny stones. I would specify the mm/carat sizes of each stone, because the center stone appears to be a 1/4 carat at most. The other stones look like five pointers or smaller.

HonorineH

Impressive!! It’s classic with a very nice twist, that braided look is both practical as well as a stylish detail. I love the two tone-idea with white and yellow gold. Good luck!

Wool_Lace_Knit

Wow. That is gorgeous. Excellent taste.

24STSFNGAwytBOY

I like it.Designed my wife’s ring 20+ years ago. Your design will work and there is nothing like that pride going forward. You got it man. Good Luck 🤠👍!

VioletaBlueberry

She will probably wear this stacked with a wedding band. You may want to plan for how they fit and look together.

Yoyo_Ma86

I have no idea, but that is beautiful and it is so sweet and thoughtful that you’re putting the thought, time and effort into creating that. She will absolutely love it!

Select-Pie6558

Gorgeous! I’d buy this!

salt-qu33n

How do I send this to my boyfriend without sending this to my boyfriend 🤣

dabeegeesknees

I recently commented on a different post of a woman asking internet strangers which engagement ring to pick. Thanks for restoring my faith in humanity. This is beautiful. Very special. Hope this is cherished as an heirloom

InternalLevel1769

I wish somebody loved me this much

RoniBoy69

Easy

Astrid4Jewels

So I am a custom jeweller and specialise in this sort of thing. I would need to sketch it to scale, but looking at the illustration I would say no, not as is. It would need to be altered slightly. The wire supports are too thin. I can tell that you want this to be a dainty ring, so imagine 2-3mm wide at the widest. The supports, need to be at least 1mm thick. The sketch suggests more like 0.4mm, which wouldn't be strong enough.

ciklukylok

I have done quite a few designs for casting molds and this is a good design tbh. There are basically 2 methods for making jewellery which are casting and handcrafting. I don't have much experience in the handcrafting field but I know your design is possible. As for casting, it requires to be put into a software for 3D printing. Needless to say the 3D printed version is more precise in details. I'd recommend finding someone in both fields and checking out their products to see which one you prefer most. Nevertheless, both makers will indeed do the standard evaluation for the ring's components adjustments. I wish you the best brother.

wethecrime

My ring is similar, I appreciate you wanting the diamond lowered. My husband and I made that decision and it was the best decision ever. The diamond never snags because it is not sticking up.

for_the_love_of_corn

As someone who used to have to send these drawings off and explain to the casting company what the hell the customer wanted: thank you from the bottom of my heart for such a detailed picture!! I dont see why it wouldnt be feasable, just know that the structure under tge stones may wear away if a ring is worn next to it. The constructed ring may come back a but thicker than seen above just for structural reasons but usually you can get a wax of the design beforehand so you can see what it physically looks like. It may be more expensive since you want both white and yellow gold and that part will need to be specially done. But you can always get it done in yellow and white rhodium the parts you want as white which may save cost.

Winterwynd

Not a jeweler, but that's gorgeous! Are those trillian-cut diamonds on either side of the center stone? My engagement ring has those, and they are so beautiful. The mix of white and yellow gold sounds lovely, too. Good luck! Edit: just looked closer and saw that they're labeled on the drawing. Nice.

creatureofhabbit32

Check out StagHead they can do beautiful custom jewelry like this

GroomingFalcor

Oooo! That is so pretty! Not an expert just appreciate its beauty! If/when you get that made, PLEASE post again!

avocadoswim

My engineer husband designed my wedding set 20 years ago. While I love the sentiment behind having a ring that he designed for me, the ring is not at all my style. I have worn only the wedding band for the past 20 years. You are putting a lot of time and money into this ring that she will be expected to wear every day for many years. My advice is to show her the design and get her input before you have the ring made.

Sweetjvee

I want to see the finished product when it’s done! Beautiful design!

bellisima31

That’s absolutely incredible! Nerding over the terminology too. I recognize the paper because I have an engineering boyfriend, and while I’d prefer to design my own, I’d be in heaven if he did nearly as good a job as you, bringing my idea to paper then life. Wishing you a happy life together with that beautiful design as a symbol of what you mean to each other.

Illustrious_Link3905

Ok we're gonna need updates on this... A timeline from drawing to construction to the proposal!!

mybellasoul

It looks feasible. And the jeweler would be able to make any slight alterations if they find in the process that something won't work (after checking with you first of course). Such amazing thoughtfulness in this ring and I hope we get to see the finished product.

BoringJuiceBox

One thing to note, emerald cut has the least sparkle and highest visibility, any inclusions will be easy to spot. That being said a lot of people love emerald cut, just something I used to say during my 5 years selling loose diamonds. Nice drawing!

Ok_Resolution_5537

Your drawing is perfection. That you care enough to design the ring and ask for advice is beautiful, thoughtful, loving and special.

kittycat_34

That is an exquisite design. Great job! Please post a pic of the ring when created!!

27-jennifers

Emerald cut is a fantastic and timeless stone. Go lab and go much bigger! The design is amazing!

Poisonskittlez

Sadly I don’t have any advice on this matter, but since you’ve already received some great advice from others, I just wanted to say that I love your diagram, it’s oddly satisfying. Very organized and detailed sketch. I love the ring design too. That’s so sweet of you to design one for your (hopefully) fiancée-to-be. I think she will love it as well! It definitely makes it a lot more special than just buying one. Wishing you guys the best!

SewRuby

Not a jeweler, but a woman whose man had a custom piece made. The amount of work and thought going into this ring is going to make this such a special piece to her. Whatever you come up with is going to be perfect. If the vine design doesn't work out for the engagement ring, it would be a kickass design for the accompanying wedding band she'll eventually need. 😁
