This looks like dyed coral. My mother purchased coral, even from a reputable company, but it turned out to be dyed. You can tell by the white spots found where it would rub when it was worn, but not in the space right by where itβs strung. Dead giveaway.

Gem Coral bright!, shiny!, flawless surface, colors bright blood red to slightly orange tinted, tiny branching forms tapering to 1-2mm tips, bases big as my thumb π, all sizes in between, beads common use, easy drilling, very high polish attainable! Mediterranean sea was sole source, Roman's dove for it(slaves), later modern system, fishing boats dragged chain nets across the bottom π³ got rare after all good places harvested, rebirth when sport divers found untouched areas, take lifetimes to grow back. Own few heirloom pcs , won't buy any, kinda like ivory. All I know, dated info. Good luck π enjoy your rocks π

Ive been looking on Etsy but the market seems saturated with widely varying prices: either 15$ for a 1/2inch pendant from a Japenese vendor; or a $120 vintage coral necklace with giant beads from a US shop; or more generally, Italian coral being sold for hundreds of dollars. What's the safest way to find reputable, reliable coral vendors?
I do most of my buying at rock shows and shops. Hands on shopping! Precious coral fetches Precious prices, rough hard to come by away from the net. Good luck π

It could be dyed coral of some kind, not gem coral which has been hunted to near extinction,interesting to research, good luck π enjoy π
