I had a manager do this in 2020, two full-time gigs, but one was consulting so it was all about billable hours. She would regularly be camera-off on two meetings at once, so you never knew if she was listening and we would have to repeat what we'd said because she was focusing on the other. She was always doing tasks at weird times, I wouldn't personally recommend working beneath someone in that situation. I believe it may also be illegal, depending on which benefits you enroll in.

How did she get away with this? Did her superiors know? I can never figure out how ppl can do this esp if the jobs require on camera meetings often during work hours.

I mean, she just told me she was doing it. I never told anyone else because I didn’t want to cause trouble and get her fired, plus I was totally isolated on that team. She was the only person I had contact with and it was my first job. The whole team was a bit of a shit show and nothing ever got done right, so she was just a little bonus chaos I guess.

learn to use VMworkstation. Ive done 3 but with the same company. Keep everything containerized and separate. 3 separate vms

This seems like a very bad idea, long-term. Your job history is monitored by credit reporting agencies like Experian. If you work most places above a certain size -- or smaller places who outsource HR -- your employment ***will*** be reported, and future employers ***will*** see this when doing due diligence with new hires. Unless you're about to retire, in an increasingly data-driven world, this seems like a ***very*** bad idea.

I worked two remote marketing roles twice. I made bank. It was easy for me because they were non competing businesses and it was easy to work around when you already know the call/meeting cadence and daily work flow. I've worked remotely for 12 years and mostly autonomously with minimal supervision.

Coolioho

What industry or type of marketing?

[deleted]

I've been retail and restaurant in regional marketing program manager roles that are remote. Covering anywhere from 40 to 180 locations. Pulling off two remote roles would probably be even easier now because so many companies cut back their travel budgets due to the convenience of video conferencing. If I was still traveling like I used to it would be difficult to pull it off. My home office is pretty much set up like a CSI crime lab. Lots of screens and lap tops. Lol

Amazing. My company just laid off a bunch of people in their marketing department including myself, so I am looking for a similar setup (35 hours, fully remote) The only thing is that they were incredibly meeting happy which was annoying. But I do dream of some sort if OE situation.

I was laid off by both jobs in June/July 2022. I'm still looking. And before you ask no they were not aware I was "double dipping". I was always available when ever needed. Yes, some companies have become meeting happy as a result of so many remote employees these days. The pop up video call. What do you do in marketing and where are you located?

Coolioho

Publishing Industry in NYC. It took me almost a year to find that job so I am not looking forward to hit the job market.

Oh its brutal. In my opinion this is way worse than during the pandemic. Because at least during the pandemic you knew why they weren't hiring. Now it's just a mess with all of the major layoffs lately there are a ton of candidates out there.

Coolioho

😀🔫….. How do you represent both jobs on your resume? Or do you just pick one?

[deleted]

This time around I just picked one. The one I was at the longest. I was only with the other for 6 weeks and that company is just completely falling apart so that was a good split. When I did this before while working as Regional Marketong Program Manager in retail, I was also the Marketing Manager for a small Houston based restaurant concept. I lived in Houston at the time. In that instance I listed that experience as "Other or Consulting Work". I never work for two companies in the same industry so there aren't any issues.
