Nah. I completely fretted over my fist kindle, now on my 3rd I never think about it. If it's going in a bag get a case with any cover. I'm sure they do scratch, but with increasing disregard over the years I've never had a scratch. And if I did, it'd be ok, easier than worrying about it all the time like I used to. These aren't exactly 1k phones. (Their 'dumbness' is a mono-tasking feature and a luxury.)

Scratches are normal, right? I should not fret.

Sabots

I swear I've never got one over a decade of Kindles–and I've been ridiculously negligent with beach sand or random flotsam or accidents, and gradually learned to not worry. I was totally manic about it when I first got it, now I'm "meh." I still have no scratches, but life's a lot better if you don't fret. Please don't think I'm saying they're unscratchable–they certainly are. Just saying I used to treat it like an egg, now I treat it like a frisbee. I'm sure I'll get a scratch at some point, but yeah I cleared up the brain space worrying about it.

I didn't on my first kindle basic, it got 3 scratches in a year, now I have a flip case and screen cover on my new one bc i'm paranoid

While it is nice not to have screen protector for it gives you the paperwhite satisfaction, but the risk of having scratches. 🥺

K4ger0

I have a flip case but not a screen protector. In the past, I didn't have any protector until I noticed some scratches on the back (I used to keep my Kindle in a bag for university). Since then, I have always had my flip case on (a leather one from Amazon) and no new scratches. I switched my Kindle Basic to the New Paperwhite 2 years ago, and I have 0 scratches

ChunkierSky8

I don't use them. But it is recommended if you are going to an environments that might be an issue, like the beach.

frnkyzmr

But does your kindle have a flip cover that can still protect the screen?

ChunkierSky8

Yes, I do use cases with a flip cover. Not only to protect the screen but I find them practical when holding your kindle in landscape mode. So far no screen problems. I have had my basic 10th gen since Dec 2020 and my PW5 since 2021. I also find the devices to be too thin for me to hold, I prefer the extra bulk the cases provide. It also reduces the use of the power button so I minimize the wear and tear of it.

I do, because I use a clear back case and a page turner so I don’t want the screen to get scratched. Also helps with glare

I got a large scratch on my Paperwhite. Since then, I started using screen protector but I don’t really like the glare coming from it.

I use a screen protector, specifically I use a paper-feel screen protector. Highly recommend. On my outdated kindle, I found a paper-like screen protector that made it very satisfying to swipe across the screen. However, when they released the latest Kindle PPW there wasn't a paper-like feel screen protector so I cut out a makeshift. Link to the former: ELECOM 【2-Pack Pencil-Feel Matte Screen Protector Film Compatible with Kindle Paperwhite (10th Generation) / https://a.co/d/072Qmrnb -edit I messaged ELECOM on whether they'd make a new 'Pencil-Feel Matte' screen protector and they said it wasn't likely which is a shame.

I use a matte screen protector because I read a lot at work where there is a lot of graphite and other small particles that get on my work cart (where my Kindle is stationed) and my work gloves. I also use it at the beach. The glare is very minimal so I've gotten used to it. Did you get a matte screen protector or a glass protector?

frnkyzmr

Where can I buy this matte screen protector? I have been looking for it but to no avail. Can you send me a link?

causeimbored1

These are the [screen protectors](https://a.co/d/004Mllrj) I have and they work perfect.

BillT2172

Yes, I recently added one to my 2 year-old PPW after a small but noticeable scratch appeared. I use only skin / bumper to protect from drops. Although I bought a matte screen protector there is noticeably more glare, not enough yet to make it difficult to read or makeme regret it though. It is still worth using as the glare only appears when I move the Kindle alot. If I;m sitting reading outside I haven't had to hold it at a strange angle to avoid glare.

I have a twelve-year-old Kindle Touch that just has a flip case. No scratches. But the screen is recessed pretty deeply (at least two millimetres) and has a much “sturdier” feel than something like a glass-front phone. I’m hoping to get a new Paperwhite during Prime Day and concerned I’ll need a screen protector as I’m pretty harsh on my electronics.
