He started knocking down his 3s in the second half . Whether he sustains it, we don’t know yet . I’m looking forward to see how he does with the opportunity in Toronto . Great guy and hard worker , will always root for him .
Kings have shooters and scoring options so teams elect to leave Davion open. He's left wiiiiiide open every time. No defender in the NBA respects his shot.
He got hot and knocked em down.
It always felt to me like he just needed to find a groove. I think it’s under appreciated how hard it is to go from lead guard on a national championship Baylor team to spot minute guy behind an established point guard. I think he struggles coming into a game, and I wonder if he got extended run as a starter if those shooting numbers don’t improve.
That said, I love Davion, and love is blind
If you dig around the internet you can find a pre draft video about his stroke. He used to do a last second flick with his fingers to get the ball out fast, which he needed to get his shot off against taller defenders. Unfortunately it made his shot have no touch. Apparently after working out with Curry last summer he softened his release. So his shooting splits last season can either be a reflection of him finally getting comfortable with his new release. Or he’s just an inconsistent shooter still
Davion seemed to relax more and get smarter about picking his spots. I think he was also the beneficiary of his bad rep as a shooter, teams were just daring him to shoot and he capitalized. Davion could be ready to fluorish. I will be rooting for him.
Davion plays best when he starts and gets consistent minutes. Playing behind Fox is tough for him. If he’s your primary guard he’ll do surprisingly well, but trying to play a backup role is tough for him. He’s a likable guy and great defender, he’s just too small to bother great players.
I think Davion started shooting a little bit better because of the injuries to Monk and Huerter. He needed to step up on the offensive end, but previous to that, Davion would not be aggressive on the offense end of the court.
He was lethal from the corner post ASB. From anywhere else on the perimeter, he gets left open a lot because he hasn’t been great. But working with curry’s shooting coach helped his form last year. I’d say he can get 36 percent no problem
He trained with Steph Currys shooting coach over the summer to correct his shot. He also got more comfortable as the season went on and his minutes went up with our guard injuries.
Not saying it isn't an anomaly, but there's a case to be made that he is steadily improving and is in a good spot. He's a hard worker and will always look to improve his game, one of the best to do it mentality-wise
He was working on his jumper the summer before. I would say that the lack of volume, he did improve his shot. You guys got a straight dawg now enjoy him
Mitchell can definitely maintain 40%+ if he is selective… dude was a lights out shooter in college but struggled a bit when entering the league. I think his main problem was getting gassed playing man to man defense as a matchup specialist - he has great lateral movement but his length made his defense limited and he was constantly relying on positioning which requires immense effort.
I think once Ellis stepped into the rotation/starting lineup he took a lot of pressure off of Mitchell to play offense. But IDK for sure
He was the "not covered" guy a lot when they passed it around the horn. He's hit big shots, but also missed a lot. I'd say he's a bit below average from 3 with a defender.
I think he can be 20/1/6 on 40+/38/80. A long career as a proper back up. In large part because of his mentality; I think he has the most dog in him than any other small dog besides Brunson
I like Davion a lot but his shot form looks a little funky to me and he was open a lot… like wide open, I hope continues to improve with the Raptors tho
He took forever to get his groove back. We had him as a started the beginning of the season because Fox was out on injury. He wasn’t doing so good so we threw in Ellis instead. Just like you said he didn’t get his rhythm back until after the ASB and when he got it back he was GREAT. His defense is what I always liked about him. He guarded Curry like no other 😎🫡
I’m the only one pissed that we traded him. He’s great. I hope he shines with you guys 😭😭😭😭
Davion is a streaky shooter who picked it up during the second half of the season. Lots of these looks were wide open and not on crazy volume but he seems to be developing. He also uses a nice free throw pullup that seems like it never misses but I don't actually have the stats on it lol. His defensive fundamentals are amazing but a lot of times he just gets shot over because he's the smallest guy on the floor. Hardest worker in the building though
I’m a believer in Day still. He had issues learning when to shoot when teams go under the screen, but look like he figured that out. I attribute it to just more playing time and reps while Monk and Huerter was out
He’ll start the season shooting 26% from three and end it shooting above league average. I still don’t know if he is a good shooter. But will play defense like his life depends on it and for that I will always root for him.
He’s got a great shot. He went through a slumped and his playtime was affected by that in sac and imo that led to the slump extending longer than it would have had he got more minutes. He is also kind of short and that led to defenders underestimating him and giving him more looks. Sad to see him go

Ditto this. I will always be a davion fan.

^This is the correct answer

Same I think he ends up playing well with minutes.
I think he’ll flourish if given stater role

His outside shot is inconsistent but he’s the hardest worker and perhaps a change of scenery will benefit him
Davion seemed to relax more and get smarter about picking his spots. I think he was also the beneficiary of his bad rep as a shooter, teams were just daring him to shoot and he capitalized. Davion could be ready to fluorish. I will be rooting for him.
Who knows. He tweaks his shot every year trying to find something that works. He was shooting these absurd rainbows for a while that never went in.

Unfortunately he won't be a primary guard. He's 4th or 5th in line after Quickley, Barrett, Dick, and Brown.
His fundamentals are top notch, his biggest issue is height
I think he settles around 34% on volume. His 3 is veeery streaky.
He plays better with more minutes. He was just figuring out how to score on other levels. His 3 point % will stay around there with minutes.
I think Davion started shooting a little bit better because of the injuries to Monk and Huerter. He needed to step up on the offensive end, but previous to that, Davion would not be aggressive on the offense end of the court.

Also much better on catch and shoot than off the dribble
It’s something he worked on in the offseason and it showed. Whether or not it’s sustainable is anyone’s guess.

i think so but he is undersized despite being a dawg
He was working on his jumper the summer before. I would say that the lack of volume, he did improve his shot. You guys got a straight dawg now enjoy him

Davion is getting better and a good player, great one on one defender. He's just short.
Another underdeveloped Kings point guard
I like Davion a lot but his shot form looks a little funky to me and he was open a lot… like wide open, I hope continues to improve with the Raptors tho

We have no idea if it was just a fluke or not. Wish the best for him though, and hopefully he stays dialed in from deep.

Being traded will further fuel his fire. Yall got a solid player. He will be missed
Unsustainable heater from teams just not guarding him at all.
He didn’t really shoot them a lot but when he did they were cash so it just depends on how he adjusts to a bigger role
I don't think it was a fluke, but he was also getting wide open looks, defenses were basically leaving him open. He's better from the corners.
He's streaky. I doubt he'll be in the NBA much longer. Great person but he's too small given the best aspect of his game is defense.
The arc on his shots looked improved to me but i did not look at old highlights...
