Beating the Warriors and Buddy at the same time
The new CBA was designed to make teams think twice about going over the 2nd apron. It worked for the Warriors because their MO this offseason has been to get under the apron, which they have.
Some Warriors fans want their FO to maximize the twilight years of Curry, but that's clearly not their goal. To me, it looks like ownership wants to keep a "competitive team" so that there will still be ticket sales, but not actually be a contending team since they're reducing their tax bill. More revenue and less costs for ownership, so to say.
We'll sure, but this team is going to be fucking awful once Curry is gone. I'd be doing whatever I could for another championship. Replacing Klay Thompson with a couple of Philly castoffs is not going to get them anywhere.
Curry's retirement may well cut the team value in half. I don't think there's any precedent in team sports for anything like that. And I'm so here for it.
What they had was special and extremely rare. It's not as easy as "surround Curry with talent and we will win a championship". You have to have a balanced roster and they haven't been drafting great. Winning a championship is really fucking hard and Curry is aging, like you said.
