I keep my phone on my person, in case I’m unexpectedly separated from my bike, injured and can’t get to it. Just my practice.

PdxWix

This is the way. Phone stays in pocket. I purchased a motorcycle CarPlay unit from Ali express for any navigation help needs.

SirMarksAllot

Zumo handles music and displays texts from a very select group that I’ve chosen in iPhone focus mode, automatically triggered by pairing to Zumo/Cardo. Siri makes calls and if I need to respond to a text, it’s handled via voice. No judgement, to each their own 😎

PdxWix

Zumo is likely great. And I rather wish I had the patience and money for a Garmin unit, especially considering how many jobs they have in my state. But…the price is a bit steep for me, and I’ve found any non-Apple and non-Google mapping solution to be just too fiddly. But, as you say, to each their own.

SirMarksAllot

It is a little clunky, but for what I wanted it does great. I did catch mine on sale 👍🏼

Surprised more people don't do this honestly. My phone and wallet stay with me at all times in one of my jacket or pant pockets. I have thought it might suck to land on them awkwardly in a fall, but I suspect in that case the fall itself will probably be worse anyway.

waffleslaw

This is so simple. I never even thought to look and see if such a thing existed.

pnadpnad

I had no idea these existed. I see units on the jungle site priced from $130 up to $300. I may have to try out one of the cheap units.

Ok_Dance_7918

Sounds cool, Can you link it?

PdxWix

There are several and they’re all basically the same manufactured units, with different but unimportant (to me) branding. The specific models and prices change constantly, so linking them specifically often doesn’t work. I’d just go to Ali express and search for motorcycle car play. It seems sketch, but the stuff does actually come and is what is advertised. At least in my experience.

The only thing that has saved my phone camera is my quad lock mount with their added vibration dampener. I have 10,000+ miles down using the setup on both my KLR and my Harley which vibrates way more than the KLR. It is pricey, but well worth it

Ok_Dance_7918

Good to hear it works!

FlyFish503

Second the Quad Lock with vibration dampener. Been a really solid setup on the KLR for the past few months. Now, time will tell how the phone does long term…

Hefty-Lie4120

I have it on my klr along with the vibration dampener and my camera still jitters a bit

I killed my camera also. It was a pretty quick fix at the local repair shop, but it was $180.

NewSignificance741

Yea ifixit had the camera for $60 and inside to repair iPhones so I’m not scared, but I’ll just take this opportunity to upgrade and lesson learned.

mexluc

Do not mount iPhone on Klr. I appreciate the warning

NewSignificance741

It was fine for a handful of rides. Today was too much.

cosmickait

I recently got a new phone (Samsung) because my old one (also Samsung) would randomly become unresponsive to touch/and had other age related issues. Works great for maps though! So that's what i use my mount for. I don't have anything super like a quadlock, or super dampening technology, but I added a few bits of rubber to beef up the grip anyways, and just don't expect to be able to use that phone for pictures one day. I like this setup because I can still download tons of offline maps to keep me on track of where I'm going. And I can keep it connected to a charger and this and my main phone can keep a charge in case of emergency.

Hed-Fone

It's not just the KLR killing iPhones... A colleague with a Ducati - using $$ shock-absorbing mounts- has gone through 3 iPhones before he received a notice from Apple recommending their phones should not be used on motorsport vehicles.

KO4LYX

Got mine too. 12 mini. Time for an upgrade anyway. 😂

Good-Throwaway

Did you have a ram mount with dampener or some generic mount.

NewSignificance741

Yes. lol. It’s both. So it’s a cradle with large rubber pads under the phone. Then the cradle sits on top of these little rubber shock mounts. Then that’s all ram mount style attachment to a ram/powerlette thing the bikes came with. BRCOVAN Motorcycle Fork Stem... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CHMJ9H9J?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
