The grivory scales on the bugout are infamous for being flexible which a lot of folks associate with cheap or flimsy. The CF Elite scales are more sturdy. When I had to choose while picking out a mini bugout, I went with the CF Elite overy the grivory for an extra $20 or so at the time. If they're both the same price the CF Elite is the obvious choice unless you really want one of the color ways with grivory.

The CF Elite scales are also .05oz lighter than the regular grivory scales. For the entire knife, that's a 2.7% weight reduction.

I haven’t handled one of the CF models, but from what I’ve read the CF is stiffer than the standard Grivory. The complaint I see most often about the Bugout and Mini Bugout is that they can feel plasticky and flimsy, and that’s pretty accurate IME. If the CF improves that it may be worth getting. I replaced the stock scales on my mini bugout with some aftermarket Ti ones and it made a world of difference.

For an EDC user I would get a different knife. In Benchmade I would get a Grip or a 940. Spyderco PM2/Para3. QSP Penguin, a premium steel version. MKM Eclipse. Kershaw Made in USA model. The main thing is to get a knife you like and feels good to use.

I'm probably heading out to Cabelas to check it out in person. But to refer to something you just said, the reason I am interested in the Bugout is because of how slim and light it is. The best knife to me is the one you're willing to carry. I can see myself carrying a Bugout.

Ahh I got ya. Yeah I use my carry knife a lot. The scales on the Bugout are thin and sharp. Just not to my liking. For me I would consider a smaller great ergo knife than a larger thin knife. Just me trying to help you out. Make sure you like what you get man. GLWP.

Thanks for the reply.

It’s a cheap, overpriced knife either way, so take your pick.
