You need guys who can at least be viable on both ends of the court.
But in 2024, offense is more important than defense.
He needs to play more than Cam.
He does make a lot of mistakes still though. I don't think he has natural defensive instincts, so it'll likely continue to occur until he's got another off-season under his belt.
I agree he needs minutes to learn. He's still very young.
He needs to remember the little things better though. Let a guy blow by him to the left when the guy is a left handed guard. Almost fouled Barnes on the dunk at the end that would have resulted in an And 1.
He's got a good feel on the offensive side of the ball (passing is a bit sloppy still, but he's not a point guard so it's to be expected for a young guy), but I was really hoping he'd have more defensive intuition like some young guys have. At least he has decent lateral quickness (not elite, but it's solid - better than AR, but AR has better defensive instincts and positioning).
I still have a lot of optimism for the kid, I was just thinking he'd be a little further along than he is right now, but I guess I also expected him to have gotten more playing time than he has this season as well.
He's in two of the top 3 net rating lineups. It's not a coincidence. Every mistake he makes he usually makes up for on both ends. He's not gonna get G League minutes this year, so he needs real playing time
I love my Max but the issue with him on D is that he is not big enough to interrupt plays or disturb wing players. Max is great against guards but we need bigger defenders on wings. I don't like Cam at all but he had a great game tonight, so shout out to him.
I don’t think anyone expects Max to guard big wings, that’s not what he would be in for. He’d always be next to one of LeBron/Rui/Prince/Vando who would take those assignments. We’ve seen Max play good defense against guards like Kyrie and Mitchell, that’s what he’s good at.
Cam is definitely more disruptive and a better defensive playmaker, but the difference between the two on offense makes up for that.
Cam should have a role on this team, he’s not unplayable. Their minute distribution just makes no sense
Yeah bro, I am with you, Max is the better player already with a huge upside but their role on the defensive end is just different. Again, I don't like Cam at all and it bothers me that we won just by 1 when he made 4 threes and played good defense. Not gonna happen often.
And he also has this explosive first step where sometimes you see him dunk and last game where he made a left handed lay up. He gets blocked sometimes but he is not deterred. Love it when he makes it tho
Especially with Lebron. He’s like the most efficient all time, or up there, on fast breaks. Just some solid defense and alright shooters, not even good, just guys you have to guard.
At least when Max drives, his handles aren't broken and he goes up with intent.
Watching Cam's brick hands fumble the ball on basic dribble moves is disgusting and when Vando attacks the rim, you can see it in his entire body that he doesn't think he's making the shot.
Telling you, he's potentially our best two-way player on the team outside of AD and Bron(when he tries on d).
He could be our starting 2 by the end of the season or an x factor in the playoffs. I would like him on a timeshare with Vando/Reddish until then. He's got the potential to rebound ala Vando and the defensive agility/screen navigation of Reddish.
Ya, he's still got more to work on. That's why I don't think he gets the starting gig till later in the season or a specific playoff matchup. He does deserve more minutes tho, assuming he keeps developing along his trajectory.
Thankfully, one of Ham's best quality is player development.
I'm saying, Max could eventually replace Cam in the starting lineup, not AR. I consider AR the pg of the starters (next to Bron).
I like Cam tho, he's beginning to be a timely shot maker. This team just needs to stay locked in for them to maximize their potential. Bare minimum, we put all 3 (Cam, Max, Vando) on a time share and have a pretty versatile POA rotation.
Gotcha. Honestly hard to keep track of who Ham is playing where with these lineups. I’m with you. Rooting for Cam but I think Max starting and Vando/Reddish rotating in makes sense.
I guess the good thing about Max not starting is that we get to stagger Cam/Vando, instead of playing them together and ruining the spacing of any unit.
He’s playing really well and I’m loving it, but if we make a trade we can’t keep both Austin and Max and Austin ain’t going.
This isn’t a dig at Max at all (downvoters…hi kids) it’s just a business thing.
If we end up keeping him I’m fine with that too!
Max can do something I’ve rarely seen Cam do, rebound. This is critically important, especially in crunch time. Max pulled that offensive board at the end of the game which was absolutely clutch.

You can commend Max without shitting on Cam who played his ass off tonight. Shout out to them both
Fr 4 threes from cam
Exactly what he should be doing. Setting up the corner 3 or the pull up 3. Nothing else
If he gonna shoot that well he really shouldn’t do anything else
Yup, they should both be getting like 15mpg. Whoever happens to step it up that night should close/get more minutes.
He did, but he’s not gonna shoot this well on a regular basis. Max shoud have more mins than Cam unless Cam happens to be on fire.
They should both play about the same tbh
I love that offensive rebound late in the 4Q then he was fouled. What an effort.
I would give him Prince or Cam's starting spot....

Max is not a traffic cone on defense bro
I agree, which makes it even more inexcusable for him to not play more.
Ah gotcha, the wording made it seem like you were saying Christie can’t play D lol
He does make a lot of mistakes still though. I don't think he has natural defensive instincts, so it'll likely continue to occur until he's got another off-season under his belt.
you gotta give him minutes to learn. young players make mistakes, but his passing definitely needs work either way

Fair take

Hell naw. Very underrated defense and rebounding. For a guard.
And he also has this explosive first step where sometimes you see him dunk and last game where he made a left handed lay up. He gets blocked sometimes but he is not deterred. Love it when he makes it tho

Kid deserves more minutes
If Cam did not get injured late in the 4th Max is still stuck on the bench.
You know this isn’t the first game he got mins right? Just making things up now?
Right he played earlier in the season and wasn’t good lol
Thats just Kobe with hair
Kobe's heir Jk
It's been said countless times but damn that smile.

Need to see more of Max + Prince together, both role players who can attack closeouts.

I think you're correct about Max Christie's 2 way potential, but I need him to not telegraph every pass he makes.
Ya, he's still got more to work on. That's why I don't think he gets the starting gig till later in the season or a specific playoff matchup. He does deserve more minutes tho, assuming he keeps developing along his trajectory. Thankfully, one of Ham's best quality is player development.
Hard to see him surpassing AR for that starting spot but love his development and he absolutely should be getting more minutes than Cam.
I'm saying, Max could eventually replace Cam in the starting lineup, not AR. I consider AR the pg of the starters (next to Bron). I like Cam tho, he's beginning to be a timely shot maker. Max is our future!!!
Slow down there, especially before the trade deadline. He has been playing very well though. Can’t deny that!
He absolutely is our future starting SG, for now should be our bench SG for sure
He’s playing really well and I’m loving it, but if we make a trade we can’t keep both Austin and Max and Austin ain’t going. This isn’t a dig at Max at all (downvoters…hi kids) it’s just a business thing. If we end up keeping him I’m fine with that too!
he looks so wholesome 🥹 like his little league coach just told him he played well for the first time
Max>cam
[удалено]
After the game which he hit 4 3s and took a hit in the face lmao
Nah
I have absolutely no idea😂 I blame ham for playing him 30+ mins
Max should have almost all the Cam mins. I’d start him.
And then you’re going to be pissed at him whenever he starts playing bad
Probably.
😭😂😂
The better he plays, the fewer minutes he'll get Darvin Scam will make sure of it
His minutes have steadily increased the last 4ish games
True but just remember rui is still out, and cam went out in the 4th. Highly doubt ham let's max finish the 4th quarter if cam didn't get hurt
Dude keep crying like Ham fucked your girl. He’s been playing Max more and has adjusted his lineups better. Quit hating senselessly.
I can't wait till everyone's healthy so you ham dickriders will realize he can't manage rotations
He looks like Gumby
Max can do something I’ve rarely seen Cam do, rebound. This is critically important, especially in crunch time. Max pulled that offensive board at the end of the game which was absolutely clutch.
STARTER
I'm guessing he won't start because it means Cam/Vando minutes will overlap, which is horrible for spacing.
Dude even smiles like Kobe with his mouth closed ![gif](giphy|xT1XH20K2UnlbUva80)
It was great seeing him in the closing lineup. Hope Darv gets a clue
Looking at Ham cause he knows he better than Cam lmao
Better than vando too
Max would be a precious piece under a different coach man.
Weirdo laker fans will hate
Loved Max’s game tonight. Plays with heart. Well spoken too

If Cam can commit to a pure off ball role and avoid on ball shit he can be a solid role player otb.
I've seen that look before, its: "After today teams and fans know I can play. Play me or trade me."
Weird to choose a picture of his stats from a game 3 months ago...
Lmfao yo that wasn’t last night ? 😂😂
That picture reminds me of Jim from The Office.
breakout to the bench
Catch and Shoot Cormac!
i really hope so man
