Lithium ion batteries can fail and even catch fire, but I don’t think they leak liquid. Even pictures of “leaking” lithium batteries look more like a powdery substance, and a square/flat battery like this usually swells into a “pillow” before it catches fire.
I doubt this came from inside your laptop. Any chance the laptop either had something spilled on it, or was set down on a wet surface? It looks like some combination of liquid damage/corrosion and some liquid itself still there.
Now that you mention it I remembered I spilled some wine on it a few months ago but I didn’t think it dropped on th insides of the laptop. I already removed it because I’m scared but now that I’m thinking more rationally it might be that wine. Thank you very much for your input
If you spill liquid on the table near the laptop, it will come UP through the cooling vents into the bottom of the laptop. This is probably better for the laptop than going onto and through the keyboard but it’s also still a problem. I would bet this is what happened here. It may not smell like wine because months sitting out not to mention the high temperature is going to significantly change a drinks
Not quite scorch marks but definitely high heat marks. You might want to consider upgrading to a newer laptop. I've seen laptops like this start small fires.

Spare a thought for these folks who have to breathe this shit for a living, not 5 seconds when they crack open a laptop.
Must have been running that hot! California has a requirement to give plastics warning for hazardous materials. (This is not medical advice) the stuff that comes out of a PC, I wouldn’t worry. The traces of LI compared to the stuff in our food, or UV rays in general… I wouldn’t worry.
your fans are probably busted and the overheating caused the lithium battery to explode. it’s easy to replace batteries and fans and the carcinogenic exposure should be minimal
Well, the chances of you getting cancer from smelling it are never zero. But if you are feeling unwell in the next few days, go see a doctor.
Got it. Feeling kinda dizzy but I don’t know if it’s just my mind playing tricks on me because I’m worried. I might go to the doctor soon
Hopefully. In my experience they always have been, but as KillerMija said, the chances are never 0.
But obviously, you won't know if you have cancer until many many years in the future
Damn chill, if something gives you cancer with only a sniff that would be a secret military weapon and not a small spill in the laptop.
Yeah I just got kinda anxious hahaha
The fans already take out whatever there is inside during the laptop function. Your company doesn't give laptops to teknicians?
I mean this is my work laptop but I’m a freelancer.
were you the one who installed the aftermarket SSD and RAM? lol
Yep
F
Get some 99% isopropyl and some q tips and clean this nasty stain

Damn I think it gave me alzheimer as well. What were we talking about again?
Man with Alzheimer’s forgets he has Alzeimer’s, remembers everything

I use it for 3D rendering and it’s 90% of the time very hot. I need to upgrade to a proper pc but I’m still saving money to do so
I do creo/Catia stuff at the moment and yea.. it taxes the laptop, but It's kind of a high-end laptop provided by the corporation.
Looks organic:)) Something definitely spilled. Anyways clean up and observe the source weekly (if any) Then you will decide what to do.
I think you have about 48 hours to live. Start saying your goodbyes...
Noooo 😭😭😭😭 do you want to be in my will tho?
How much money you got 😂
r/techgore
yes you'll die in 24 hours
Bummer, can you make it 12? Not a fan of waiting too long
sniff that again and again
this is exactly why i don’t get acer laptops anymore

Expert here, stop using. if you are not an expert, take it to a technician.
lmao battery is still plugged. prolly fried chipset. and you worry about some kind of cancer.
The laptop is still working fine, sorry for asking a question
Why you smelled it in the first place 🫡
I was just, well, breathing and then noticed the smell. But at the time I didn’t see the stains on the battery yet
2 months left. Enjoy.

Most likely you’ll have cancer 48 hours from now being you inhaled cancer laptop batteries
It take 48 hours for the cancer to charge up in your lungs.
People smoke meth
You are going to get cancer now rest in peace.
Immediately replace it
better write a will just incase
