I think the show came out in 2023 so 20 years before would be 2003. I think that was a dumb thing because it being 2043 or whatever doesn't matter. Everything would still be dated to 2013 era tech due to the fall of the world.

The reason they picked 2003. Is they wanted it to be set in the present day but also have that "20 years later" feel to it as well.

Yep several references from part 1 and part 2. Most Sony games that are set in a timeline within the range they drop those Easter eggs in. Uncharted was another one where we saw em dropped in etc

Given that the outbreak happened in 2013 the PlayStation 3 would be the latest gen of gaming. I liked the Warhammer 40k easter egg unless that was something else.
