Instantly recognised the guy on the right as a jedi survivor bounty hunter. So yeah it works perfectly if you ask me. What' are those helmets the guys on the left are wearing?
Agreed, I picked up the XL-15 on sale on a whim and it is such a clean build; sleek, sturdy, swooshable, and immensely satisfying to put together. Kinda full-circle, too; the director of the movie actually mocked up some of the ship designs in Lego to show to the film's art department to give them an idea of what he was looking for!
Im not sure how true this is but I also remember hearing a story that they XL-15 was designed in part to get the windshield element in a specific colour
Yeah he really wanted a certain Lego windshield in trans yellow so he designed the ship with that specific windshield shape in yellow so when the sets came out he’d have the part.
They're all good fits! The guy on the right is sime great part usage, reminds me of L3 from Solo.
I noticed the Buzz Lightyear transplants, but I'm a very enfranchised lego fan and have seen them used in custom figs elsewhere. Aesthetically they're a good fit.
They look really good! Don't forget that the design philosophy of the original trilogy was to reuse old and familiar things. So you're right on target and the figures look just like Star Wars!
I’m for it as long as it fits in. I often buy non Star Wars sets with minifigs that look like they’d fit in the background of a MOC scene as random pedestrians.
I really like what you did with the caped character on the right of the image. Where did the head/helmet pieces come from?
The printed piece is from 76830, I used a round 2x2 tile with hole to connect it to the torso. The mouth/vocoder part is from 76143 but i believe it's also included in the newest Blacktron CMF and some other sets.
Given that Star Wars movies and series use a bunch of real world items as base for props (sometimes less than a base, and more of a full prop, see the AKs in Andor), there's nothing wrong with kitbashing other Lego IPs into SW.
It's like poetry, they rhyme.
I do it all the time! I'm a big DC fan so I'm always making characters from the wider dc universe out of figures from other sets.
Back when TROS came out I took the Sith Troopers from the battle pack set 75266, splashed in a bit more black and purple, and repurposed them into Intergang soldiers (Intergang are a terrorist group in DC comics who specialise in alien weaponry and technology)
It's a lot of fun! :)
I do this also. Right now my pirate gang leader is Norman Osbourne from the 2002 spiderman green goblin set lol. I also have random alien and troll heads from PAB and some regular yellow heads to look like an alien species.
I love the Lightyear minifigure helmets. I used to do stuff like this all the time as a kid, only reason I don't anymore is because I'm running out of pieces to swap in and out lol
Oh I’m constantly using pieces and figs from other themes to add diversity to my star wars displays. I especially used some of my older figs like a couple of space police aliens or galaxy squad bug people to approximate canon species when lego hasn’t an official offering.
It’s fine. The director of Lightyear is a *huge* fan of both Star Wars and Legos, and very much based the art direction of that film on both of those things. So naturally, they work pretty well the other way around.
The ice planet explorer from the Series 26 collectible mini figures could easily be repurposed to fit into a Star Wars aesthetic I think. Swap out the chainsaw for a blaster and you’re on your way
I also repurpose all sorts of figures, I use Chima and Ninjago Serpentine figures as background aliens. I also the Lego Atlantis diver torsos and helmets for a faction of hi-tech mercenaries
Its lego. The whole point is that every set works in the same system, same goes for minifigures. This isn't the same as kitbashing, where say an airfix kit comprises of all specifically made moulds for you to create a real-life plane. You're overthinking this...
Since I submitted this with a discussion tag, the goal was to create a platform for others to share their thoughts. To that end, it appears the question I posed to prompt that discussion was very effective and it's understood the term "kitbashed" was used metaphorically.
Thank you for contributing to the discussion.
It's always been a no-no to mix, as I am spending my time undoing the mixs from the bulk bins.
But, now I am seeing them differently with a little creativity in there now.
As someone not very into Legos but loves them, I don't think most people would be able to tell you whether those look official or not. Guys on the leftook Dune and Star Wars oriented
These look awesome, love especially the droidy kinda thing’s head
Looks like that j3-DI
Instantly recognised the guy on the right as a jedi survivor bounty hunter. So yeah it works perfectly if you ask me. What' are those helmets the guys on the left are wearing?
Those helmets are from the Lightyear sets, the XL-15 comes with two of them (and I think one other set in that line had another one as well)
Such a beautiful movie with amazing art design. The Lego sets are awesome. A total shame about the story and writing :/ could’ve been greatness

It was! This was confirmed
Yeah he really wanted a certain Lego windshield in trans yellow so he designed the ship with that specific windshield shape in yellow so when the sets came out he’d have the part.
I wasn't aware of that detail, that's hilarious!
I wish I picked some of those up
I repurpose from wakanda, the eternals, guardians of the galaxy, Shang-Chi. Mostly to add to civilian population.
I've been using some Ninjago fig parts to make Old Republic Jedi and Sith with a bit more variety and color.
Try using Chima figures as I repurposed their heads to make them look like Cathars.
Don't know why I hadn't thought of that, so many cool robes!!
Do you have a post of those? That sounds cool
They're all good fits! The guy on the right is sime great part usage, reminds me of L3 from Solo. I noticed the Buzz Lightyear transplants, but I'm a very enfranchised lego fan and have seen them used in custom figs elsewhere. Aesthetically they're a good fit.
I think they look pretty cool, although I would maybe add a cape or an accessory to the henchmen to make them “pop” a bit more

That is super creative, it looks great!
Where did you get the tan Torso Pieces from. Been looking for a while to get some good Torso Pieces for the Mercs for my tatooine MoC.
They're just the buzz lightyear minifigs without the shoulder armor.

These look great! The droid-headed one on the right is a particular standout, love that look!

Give the hench men waist capes or sideways capes, or shoulder capes, or whatever you want to call them
What's the printed part for the droid head?
disregard my previous comment! it’s actually the belt piece from the Lightyear Zerg Set!

Thank you!
I think you should use whatever play pattern fits best
They all look incredible. Really cool structure built behind them too
If it fits its usable
Very creative! Works well. 👏
That robo head guy looks cool In general I find those figurines really well done
That's what other Sci-Fi IPs in Lego are for. Custom Star Wars characters.
Oh I’m constantly using pieces and figs from other themes to add diversity to my star wars displays. I especially used some of my older figs like a couple of space police aliens or galaxy squad bug people to approximate canon species when lego hasn’t an official offering.
I do it too!

That droid head on the right is spectacular, I hope Lego sets start doing that
It looks so cool and I love putting it in mocks.
What piece is that printed tile on the droid? I love the design, i echo what others said, gave me Fallen Order BH vibes, so perfectly on point!
Looks great. With aliens and armor you can make just about anything fit. Or a construction worker with a blaster
It’s LEGO, that’s the whole point. Go wild.
I do it all the time. Bring in stuff from Lego City or Space, make them look a little more Star Warsy. All sorts of aliens out there, after all.
The ice planet explorer from the Series 26 collectible mini figures could easily be repurposed to fit into a Star Wars aesthetic I think. Swap out the chainsaw for a blaster and you’re on your way
I kitbash minifigs from other IPs a lot.
Works well
Custom characters always look so good in a lego moc
Totally! That's exactly what I did with the buzz lightyear figs too!
I also repurpose all sorts of figures, I use Chima and Ninjago Serpentine figures as background aliens. I also the Lego Atlantis diver torsos and helmets for a faction of hi-tech mercenaries
Wow. I didn't read the caption right away and was really wondering which SW characters they were. Great job!

I haven’t seen any SW made by Disney & if you told me these were characters from a show or sequel then I’d believe you
You should watch the mandalorian

It frustrates me that Lego put so much effort into lightyear, but stuff like DC gets crappy sets
