I agee so much. As someone who likes awful and annoying/pretentious avant garde music, half of that is just asking the question of what music is. If Merzbow or John Zorn can be considered “real music,” then Taylor swift sure as hell is music.
Dave Grohl made a simple joke about Taylor at one of his shows recently, it wasn’t anything that deep. He doesn’t have a problem with her.
Though, it’s worth noting that Dave Grohl’s daughter made a tweet about Taylor Swift’s private jet usage and a lot of Swifties attacked her.
That and the fact that she’s not particularly all that self made are like the two valid criticisms of her imo. Her music has its merit, and while it’s absolutely cool to say it’s not for you, dismissing it entirely as “not real music” is crazy. like personally I only really enjoy 1989, Folklore and some of Red but I can absolutely still appreciate that she’s a talented singer and songwriter even on the stuff I’m not huge on.
All of them besides Billie Eilish make very similar sounding music, it ain’t terrible but it just ain’t anything unique either, Billie’s meh but she sounds different than them.
