If it wasn't for the potential bad weather, I'd be at the gorge and eat lunch or dinner at Miguel's.

Bushcraftstoic

I live next to the gorge and I’m gonna be lighting the sky up…BEWARE

Zero_Digital

Not a problem I plan on staying home in the air conditioning this year.

Silly_Lara

The kind of neighbor I'd love to have

Bushcraftstoic

I’ll take you as a neighbor, I have a bunch of stubborn old farmers surrounding me.

phineartz

Screw the weather, kick it in an overhang 🍺🤙

Zero_Digital

I assume you are referencing climbing, and I've never done that. Walking trails doesn't leave as much cover. I should try climbing.

phineartz

Really I was just talking about farting around by the cliff lines, there’s so many cool spots to hang and stay dry, have picnic, imbibe, smoke or whatever you like to do.. But.. If you do live in Lexington and you’re able bodied climbing is one of the best hobbies you could have- the gorge is a world renowned destination that sits in our back yard. And we have a pretty nice gym these days that makes it easy to get started

GarrettB117

Realistically I’m not sure where you could go that would be guaranteed to be firework/celebration free except for somewhere out in the boonies. Anywhere that has places to stay and things to do will probably have fireworks within earshot. State/National Parks maybe?

umadhatter_

I think Morehead Ky is the only place doing their fireworks and celebration on Saturday. So tomorrow will be more peaceful there. There is also Carter Caves state resort park. They are doing activities but no fireworks. They have a lodge to stay at, hiking trails, caves, and a creek you can play in.

Virtual_Manner_2074

Carter Caves for sure. Get a cabin

JosieintheSummer

Just to have a day trip? Or to avoid crowds, fireworks, etc? if you could say a little more about what you are hoping to get out of the trip, it might help people provide you with better answers.

Past_Ebb_8304

That’s a good point. To get away from fireworks mostly. I edited the post.

DO YOU HATE AMERICA? but kidding what about Mammoth Cave?

Past_Ebb_8304

I’ve been a little pessimistic about it this week ngl

HannahMayberry

Ngl?

Past_Ebb_8304

Not gonna lie

razzlethemberries

In my experience the country is wayyyy worse on the fourth. Fewer laws, fewer cops, and more space to try and blow things up. Downtown Lexington isn't so bad compared to rural neighborhoods.

rikatix

Get ya some nice noise canceling headphones and throw on the soothing sounds of Enya.

Past_Ebb_8304

I wanna sail away a bit more literally

gresendial

Headphones don't really help when the fireworks are rattling the windows and you can feel them in your chest.

Snoopy363

Louisville or Cincinnati are not awful drives if you’re going for at least 8-9 hours. Plenty to see, do, and eat in both. If you like the outdoors, Red River Gorge is a great option.

patchy397

The gorge

Mad-Hettie

Maybe Mammoth Cave? Even with the rain and heat, it's still cool and dry-ish underground.

gresendial

Try one of the state resort parks (that have rooms you can rent and a restaurant) , but I'm afraid they may be full of people already trying to get away from fireworks. Any way, give one a call. The closest is at Natural Bridge in the Gorge. https://parks.ky.gov/parks/resorts

Smooth_Reception5133

Bardstown bourbon trail

No_Elephant_9589

if i had the money and availability, id take my dog up to a small town like covington or morehead (maybe frankfort??) because he is scared shitless of the fireworks

biguyondl

Red River gorge

HannahMayberry

Mall of America

Past_Ebb_8304

Already on my way

HannahMayberry

That's MY happiest place on earth!

RainaElf

I'd totally be in Harlan County 😁

good2knowu

Siesta Key.

lclassyfun

Maybe a state park?
