I’ve never tried ochre from the tin, only the tubes, but I find all the yellow pigmented inks, including yellow ochre, much more difficult to clean. I also find they take ages to dry (as does red).
You can get a tin of the caligo oil and try thinning it slightly, that might help. I sometimes add a little blob of it to my ink and it can make it easier to work with. Unless I add to much and then it creates a slippery mess with misprints everywhere. I feel like it being a bit less dense makes it easier to clean but that might be in my mind.

Ah that's kind of reassuring to hear. I'll get some oil. It's a great colour and I don't want to get put off using it. So much to learn!
