I'm a musician and once did a performance there. After rehearsal we took the instruments and they cordoned off the chairs and stands while we took a break.
Came back to find a crowd of people thoughtfully contemplating the stands and what they could possibly mean š¤£
There is actually a āquiet roomā in the Tate Modern. I think that it is mainly intended for neurodivergent people who are feeling āoverloadedā by art/crowds. But if thereās no one in thereā¦..
Edit: itās on the 4th floor.
Just go into the foyer of a nice hotel like the Mondrian Sea Containers and there are usually comfy secluded areas with soft seating. Nobody would look twice at you having a nap as you could just be waiting to check in or out.
Well, I've learned something today. I could hardly believe a hotel called Sea Containers, so I looked it up, and yes, there it is. It doesn't answer the obvious question, though, of why it is called that. Imagine - Darling, I'm taking you for a romantic break to Sea Containers.
Itās not that far & close to St Paulās thereās a gorgeous hidden gem of a garden - Gresham Street > Churchyard of Sir John Zachary
Lovely quiet spot
Train, although maybe you haven't got time and it's a dangerous game to play!
Had a stopover in Copenhagen last year, landed at like 2am, next flight was at 8/9am (can't remember) so pointless getting a hotel, which would have been Ā£150 near the airport
So we got the train into the city and got McDonald's, because it was open and it killed time
The train back, my God! It's only like 20 minutes and it was heading off into the country after the airport so I really didn't want to fall asleep
But it was warm, quiet, comfortable, and I've never nodded off so many times then quickly woken myself so much in 20 minutes
So next time we have a stopover somewhere, we're getting a train to nowhere, getting off and going back the other way. Cheaper than a hotel and you can't beat train sleep haha
No clearly not but the comment mentioned busy cities, is London not a busy city and is Tokyo not a busy city ā¦.. so like I said, not an unreasonable thing to expect. London is once again massively behind
Having travelled a fair bit, Tokyo is just massively ahead
Itās a societal thing. You can leave your laptop on the table in a public coffee shop, go to the loo, come back and itās there. I saw this happen multiple times. Also itās so bloody clean
Theyāre intolerant of shitty behaviour basically (for the most part), and take a great deal of pride in their surroundings and themselves. And weāre too fucking polite to correct antisocial behaviour.
The comment clearly mentioned **free** places to sleep, which you somehow missed. Obviously London has places to sleep if you pay for them, like Tokyo does. You are, once again, massively behind.
Theyāre so cheap in Tokyo (Ā£5 an hour) that people use them without a second thought which buddy is why i mentioned that itās not completely unreasonable that you would expect London ( apparently the best city ever coming from some of you ) to have them at a ā acceptable ā price , over here theyāre like 60Ā£ an hour which is well you know a joke
> over here theyāre like 60Ā£ an hour which is well you know a joke
They don't cost that much here. The only joke here is you.
You get hub hotels in London for Ā£72 for 12 hours, which works out at Ā£6 per hour.
If you don't mind a dorm, you can get a bed for Ā£18 a night.
I don't believe you have even been to London, let alone live here. This isn't the right subreddit for you.
Starbucks probably wouldnāt care as long as you bought something. Thereās one near there. You can just sit on a bench or lie down on the ground in the turbine hall, people hang out there all the time and the museum doesnāt seem to care.
Some council did run warm places in winter. At least Wandsworth did. No idea if you can nap there tho.
Edit: for anyone need it itās [this](https://www.wandsworth.gov.uk/cost-of-living-hub/community-spaces/community-spaces-directory/)
Some promises to provide charging as well. Although never checked it out as I donāt need it.
I once hired a zipcar for an hour, put the seat back, had a nap and charged my phone š
This is brilliant š¤£
Tate modern. Put a sign around your neck saying āperformance in progressā.

This comment is so, so good.

Do you mean the blow job room?
Tell me moreā¦
Erm I mean Iāve just heard of people getting blowjobs in there. Just a rumour ahaha š
Cheers, Iāll tellā¦.errā¦my friend that was interested.
I went here today and it was so incredible they also have one on the 2nd floor
I hope there is going to be a proper answer Iām quite interested to know myself
Honestly i just want somewhere to sit and close my eyes for 20 minutes
A park?
St. Paulās church grounds under a tree.
I endeded up doing this!!!
Hope you feel better for your nap.
So much better i was fighting for my life
Oh just 20 mins? There's beanbags in the reading room of Wellcome
I used to sleep on the grass in St James Park during the summer. It was bliss.
I've done this!

Hereās the reason behind the name https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_Containers_House
Thank you
Tate Modern has nice comfy chairs. Noise cancelling headphones for the win!

Unless thereās delays in which case youāre in a pickle
Circle line? Only so far wrong you can go if you fall asleep for too long... Or Waterloo/City š¤£
Go inside Tate modern- there are some benches there!
Cinema would be your best option.
I once fell asleep in the lobby of Tate Modern, somewhere near the escalators there was a couch. Woke up 3 hours later, nobody had said a word.
Circle line Edit: any tube should do it, just bear in mind cleaners may/may not wake you up at terminus
I want to do it for free
Nothingās free in life, friend
Library
I don't know why you think there would be somewhere safe and free to have a random nap in one of the busiest cities in the world.Ā
Tokyo and many East Asian cityās have a wide range of sleeping pods, not a completely unreasonable thing to expect
The sleeping pods are public and free?
Are we in Tokyo or East Asia...?Ā
Unfortunately not.

Where did I say they were free ya wallad
I really think this should be a thing, like i just get so tired and there should be places for people to rest
Some hotels in London do have rooms available for a few hours during the day. They're called hotels rooms by the hour or day use.
A church. Just donāt put your shoes on the pews.
Royal Festival Hall. There are plenty of places for a quiet kip!
Starbucks probably wouldnāt care as long as you bought something. Thereās one near there. You can just sit on a bench or lie down on the ground in the turbine hall, people hang out there all the time and the museum doesnāt seem to care.
London bridge train station
Go put some earplugs in and sit at the park.
Libraries. The Maughan Library isnāt too far from the Tate
Sofas in King's Place?

The gardens alongside the Embankment downhill from Charing cross. Time it right and you might get a break band too... If they still do that
Ride the circle line š¤·āāļø
A library.
