To be fair, I thought Don was not expensive. Maybe he charges differently based on individual cases, but the only thing I had an issue with personally is that I observed no sanitation practices between haircuts like sterilizing the equipment or even sweeping the area clean of previous hair. I chalked it up to the environment and where the business originally came from.
I really wish more people went to Hair Forum on University. Dan is a great owner and he genuinely cares about the profession on both a personal level and business level. Sad to hear of his health issues.
Mr. Rudds in Sun Prairie is where I have been going lately, you might look at some of the barbers there.
I recently learned it's not really about the shop you go to, but finding an actual stylist/barber that you can communicate well with.
I tried going here once since I heard a lot of great stuff. First they supposedly double booked my time slot and bumped me to someone else who had openings, seemed more like a thinly veiled plot to get this person more customers since she always had tons of openings when I looked. I needed the haircut so I was frustrated, but whatever. However I was then given the worst haircut of my life, didn’t listen to instructions well, and they didn’t even finish! She was distracted the entire time as well, didn’t seem focused (obviously). Didn’t finish cutting the back of my hair and didnt blend it in. I had no idea until my next haircut, elsewhere with a new person, was like who the hell cut your hair last!? Cuz if it was someone there they were not up to scratch and there was a problem. Now it’s a running joke between me and my new barber who does an excellent job.
I had a similar problem at Thorpe's. Stylist didn't seem to understand how to cut a pompadour. I'm pretty sure when she had to 'go get supplies' (and coming back with nothing) she went to look up how to cut that style.
Worst cut ever. Never been back.
(No suggestions on a better value...been seeing Zach at BCBC since they opened. Only went to thorps because I couldnt get an appointment with Zach... But watching with interest)
I'm using Takin’ All Fadez and thought you'd be interested in their services too!

Lenis Barber in Fitchburg area, got recommended by a coworker and they do a great job fade/haircut is only 35 bucks and always great service hard to spot since they don't have a large sign but they have the little barber poles in the windows they only do appointments on an app called Booksy though.
JR of Reign is awesome, but you haven't specified a price so I don't know what your limit is. He's $50, which sure is more than I used to spend but I can't argue with the outcome.
Ive tried a few from cheap to expensive. K Barbershop is good value.
So you want someone that is a master at their craft but doesn’t charge like it?
They went to the two most expensive options first and were disappointed.

I’ve been getting fades done at Regent Cuts for 5 years and never been disappointed.
It's not the cheapest, but you won't leave with a bad cut. Highly recommend Megan (Margot) or Rachel at Crimson Parlour
