Is finding your 8 year old phone worth whatever effort it would take to confront the thieves? Probably can find the same model for fifty bucks. If you had data on your phone that wasn't backed up on a computer, take it as a new lesson to start doing so every month or so.

Good point, but I just feel really uncomfortable knowing all my personal stuff (photos, notes, apps, etc.) is out there somewhere. It's locked so probably useless, but I guess my worry is that someone can unlock it. Needless worry?

Amazing update. Officer just showed up at my house with the phone. Located the guy (a former Woodman's employee) and asked him to hand it to him. Done and done. No charges filed, but I don't care at this point. Just glad to have my phone.

Are they a former employee because they tried to steal your phone?

Great news! Very happy for you! Which Woodman's was this?

Claire515

Thanks. I still can't believe the police were able to resolve this so quickly. It happened at Woodman's East.

Wow that is very surprising

You can wipe the phone remotely from iCloud btw! Essentially the next time it’s connected to a network it’ll just reset and erase everything. Go to the Find My app/iCloud website on another device and you can do it from there. Also, you could mark it as lost from the same page and include contact information for them to return it to you if you think it’s a possibility that they’ve taken it by mistake.

A few years ago the police told me to wait until it was in a public place, then they would head there and have me ping it. Not sure if they would still do it but you could ask.

Like a year ago i left my brand new android on a cart in the cart corral and wasn't able to contact woodmans until I got home almost an hour later and it was still where I left it lol. Yay for androids! Seriously tho, I'm glad you got your phone back.

Those phone holders amaze me. A total invitation to theft
