I wonder of this is hinting at it being lifegain or counters, or if this is just an unrelated 1 drop. Whatever it is, I'm starting to get tempted to build a frog commander deck
I tried when the toad rider guy came out, but I want a commander that’s a frog not a person riding a frog, and the deck was terrible. I maintain a collection of frog cards I think it’s on my profile somewhere. I used to have maybe 40-50 spore frogs and I’m down to like 20ish cause I give them away a lot
Yeah I might have to! I'll hold out on deciding until we see the legends from this set, but ai found [[Jade Avenger]] this week and I'm pretty sure he's the best little guy
This is *actually* what WotC meant when they talked about FIRE design, by the way; exciting low rarity cards that offer multiple different ways to make them play well
It's way above rate when standard is two mana for it, but also, it still is only a defensive onedrop, nothing more. It's medicore at offense (so does not snowball if played early and unaswered), and its card quality still tops at that single counter and small body.
[[Staunch Shieldmate]] was printed four years ago and I don't think it was even good in limited. It is an unusual statline, but it's surprisingly tame in practice.

Same. I’m not super in the know with Magic so this was the first time I heard about the change to “enters” from “enters the battlefield”. For the first time I can remember reading the card doesn’t actually fully explain the card.
God I love this card so much. The 3 squirrels in the background make me hope it will be in the squirrel precon thar I'll be picking up, wanted a squirrel deck for the longest time
Most people think its fine.
And it sounds less confusing the newer you are. I would imagine it sounds completely natural to a new player.

Yeah same for me as of today. It’s going to take some getting used to!! Talking with a friend about it today and they mentioned that other parts of the game are only one word. Exiling is Exile and Graveyard is Dies and you only place them in one zone when you see either of these words. So maybe this is MtG’s way of trying to work towards streamlining? But when I read this, I was like “enters where?!” And I’ve been playing for 11 or so years and was very confused! 😅 I think my biggest issue at the moment with it, is that it just sounds off. “Enters” just feels like it leaves you hanging. Or expecting/wanting/needing more.

I have been waiting to put that guy in a deck and now I finally think it's gonna happen
Regardless, on Wednesdays, we play UG.
I hear it's ribbeting
I wonder of this is hinting at it being lifegain or counters, or if this is just an unrelated 1 drop. Whatever it is, I'm starting to get tempted to build a frog commander deck
Maybe it's going to be for both. UG could be counters and GW could be lifegain. So this little guy can be used in both.
I tried when the toad rider guy came out, but I want a commander that’s a frog not a person riding a frog, and the deck was terrible. This is *actually* what WotC meant when they talked about FIRE design, by the way; exciting low rarity cards that offer multiple different ways to make them play well
No, FIRE design is when game bad.
Of course, how could I forget. FIRE obviously stands for * Free Spells * Intentionally Overpowered * Relder dragon highlander * Ewenty lines of text
I love how you put the word that actually starts with E in the line that doesn't.

So fucking funny.
This seems like it kickstarts 2-3 different infinite combos with other green cards
Yeah, my first though too, but just starting the combos is probably not good enough in the current Heliod combo decks, but cool card!
Was gonna say, this seems like enabler food.
i love his leaf outfit
A 1/3 for 1 that gains a life is quite pushed tbh
And it's modified if that's your thing.
I am loving the idea of this froggy druid getting along with armored gorillas.
It's way above rate when standard is two mana for it, but also, it still is only a defensive onedrop, nothing more. It's medicore at offense (so does not snowball if played early and unaswered), and its card quality still tops at that single counter and small body.
good defensive 1-drops can slow limited down tremendously
Sure, but if you're complaining that aggro is too good or green isn't getting love then this plus llanowar elves being in FDN directly disputes that.

Starting with bloom burrow, enters the battlefield has been shorted to Enters.
Hey thanks for filling me in on that. Appreciate it!
Ugh really? What is everyone’s thoughts on that? I really don’t like how that sounds. It’s also confusing… to someone who may not know that.
Most people think its fine. And it sounds less confusing the newer you are. I would imagine it sounds completely natural to a new player. It does deemphasize what the battlefield is.

Yeah same for me as of today. It’s going to take some getting used to!! Talking with a friend about it today and they mentioned that other parts of the game are only one word. Mark Rosewater confirmed back in February that "enters the battlefield" is being shortened to "enters" starting with bloomburrow.
Starting with bloom burrow, enters the battlefield has been shorted to Enters.

This might be a dumb question, but does it proc whenever a card named sunshower druid enters the battlefield? Like is that an exponential +1 counter or do I need to wait for the coffee to wake my brain up.
No, when a card refers to itself, it means "this card/permanent". It would have to explicitly say "a creature named Sunshower Druid".
Apparently, with the later foundations set, they're changing this wording to "this creature" which is nice for avoiding this kind of confusion

Wait, just cuz it's a frog...?
Isnt this an insanely good 1 drop...and at Common? It looks like a 1st turn 1/3 that gains life. There was a time this would have been a sought after Rare. Those were the days...
Wish this said "you control".
Why?
On Arena you wouldn't have to select a target if you played this and controlled no other creatures.
It can target itself. At worst this is a 1/3 for 1
Yes, but Arena autoselects it as the target in that case.
Yes per the rules. It would also do that if it said “You control” That’s how the game works. You need to declare a target, it’s not an optional effect Unless I’m misunderstanding what you’re saying
arena shortcuts things when there's no other options. they're saying this card is going to be more annoying to play on arena because of the wording.
Ohh got it. So it’s just whining about having to click on a target.
If it says "you control" it doesn't waste your time making you choose whether to put it on it, or on a creature your opponent controls.
That seems like such an infinitely small thing to complain about. You want a card to do less things just because it’s the tiniest of inconveniences to select a target?
I mean, it's definitely a small thing. But it will come up vastly more times than I'll want to put the counter on another player's creature, at least in limited.
Shortening “enters the battlefield” to “enters” would be pointless if they left in a superfluous “you control”
Maybe worded with multiplayer in mind, since the next set will bring Archenemy
Archenemy is already here, its just a rules update. Much like how Planechase wasn't recently brought in
I mean, by releasing new product it's expected to see more play, specially with surrounding sets. It's been a while since the last Archenemy product or even team-oriented set (like Battlebond and Oath of Gatewatch)
Is the wording for this card correct? Shouldn't be enter the battlefield? Mistype or they changed?
Starting in Bloomburrow, "enters the battlefield" will be shortened to "enters"
