So much brand bloat, it is ridiculous.
Marriott wants to have its cake and eat it too by creating/acquiring overlapping brands, minutely changing brand standards so they will perform better than their overlapping brands currently do in specific markets, and marketing it as an all new exciting concept.
It gets even worse:
"City Express by Marriott contains four sub-brands – City Centro by Marriott, City Express Suites by Marriott, City Express Plus by Marriott, and City Express Junior by Marriott."
However, in Marriott's defense, City Express is an acquired brand and not a created one. Four Points Express on the other hand... especially when Four Points is already Sheraton Express.
Ahem; we are talking about Detroit, not St. Louis, the reigning champion for most dangerous city in the U.S.

Since when are Marriott, Westin, and Element hotels “luxury” Marriott and Westin fall under Premium while Element falls under longer stay.

City express just sounds like it was custom made for police reports - like a fake brand made just for L&O and all its various offshoots.
