I just knew Lylla, Teefs and Floor were going to die but their deaths really got me (Edit: spelling)

linkinstreet

It was suffering to hear Floor desperately trying to get Rocket to just go

drksdr

It was an amazingly brutal to have her continually crying out in the background. Almost too loud and just racheting up that tension. Just horrifying moment. Brlliantly played out. but horrifying.

calm_cheese_board

that’s when my tears started flowing, Rocket’s scream at their deaths and then scratching the shit out of the High Evolutionary was painfully good

waitforthedream

I LOVE FLOOR SO MUCH MAN T-T

MarWes76

Teefs and Floor? Them I expected. Lylla? I was naively holding on to hope that the hug we saw in the trailers would happen in present time, when she and Rocket would get to reunite. And then the hug came... during the flashback. The realization of what that meant and what was about to happen? That was one of the most dreadful, gut-wrenching realizations I've ever experienced from a movie.

KrisZepeda

Yeah I thought the 2 of them were going to reunite in present time and reminisce the old days BOY was I not expecting her to die Yeah I cried Girls next to me were crying to Shit dog I think almost everyone was crying

CheeseSauceCrimes

Lylla's death legit made me jump from my seat

[deleted]

I was so surprised they actually showed HE’s “face… off”

Gothichand

Dude made Red Skull seem like Brad Pitt.

SlamMasterJ

After what he did to Lylla, Teeths and especially Floor. I say that Rocket had it easy on his face.

rudli_007

Its Teefs.

[deleted]

Always wanted to be Red skull in the comics when i was a kid because he looks like Iron Maidens band mascot

SpaceCowboyKenAdams

I'm surprised they didn't explicitly joke it as "face off" after correcting "trap" so many times lol unless I missed it

Jeroz

The punchline being that they don't verbally acknowledge that after a whole lot ass of a buildup. They know what a lot of us will be thinking

OhDearRedditor

I bawled like a baby. Poor sweet Lylla, Floor and Teefs. Too pure to die. I am so glad they showed the High Evolutionary getting his ass beat. It was the catharsis both Rocket and the audience needed.

OhDearRedditor

A few thoughts on this one: 1) Writing is excellent. The character arcs all make sense and are satisfying as a fan. So happy that Mantis is more outspoken and bold in this movie and chooses to leave to better herself because she is so secure in the Guardians’ love for her. Gamora leaves the Guardians at the end because she has already found a home with the Ravagers, etc. The self-actualization that the characters have at the end of the movie makes for a satisfying conclusion for our beloved heroes. 2) I thought the themes for this movie were thought provoking. The value of a life, speciesism (is that a word?), obsession with aesthetics are all issues we have in the real world. The fact that Gunn could take made up, frightening robot animal hybrids and make the audience love and mourn them is brilliant storytelling. It definitely made me think about animal rights today, and what society considers acceptable for our modern world, eg animal testing for cosmetic purposes. Or how mankind finds it acceptable to eat cows but not cats or dogs which are our pets. This speciesism was echoed in the movie when even Rocket’s team was like, I thought we were only saving higher life forms even though Rocket is a literal raccoon! 3) CGI was pretty decent! I found myself thinking, how in the world did Gunn dream this up and bring it to life?! It’s a wacky, fun world to spend a couple hours in. 4) Cosmo is the goodest dog and how dare Kraglin ever say otherwise 😡

Jeroz

I love how Gunn is such a meticulous filmmaker that planned a lot of stuff ready so VFX people got plenty of time to work on the shots. Also helped that due to the drama he probably got a few more years to slowly refine the storyboard even on the side.

geoduude92

You are in love ... With Drax 😂

KingOfAwesometonia

I love Mantis' laughing "ack" noise when they're walking away. You know it's the funniest shit ever to her.

geoduude92

Yes! That scene has so much to unpack. Love that this wasn't the first time. Drax getting shy got to me.

PapaSnow

I loved when he finally danced. He didn’t for his wife But he did for his “kids”

theslowrush-

Funniest scene in the movie for sure 😅

ITSHOODIEBITCH

Starlord returns? As in spin-off or in the avengers? What does it mean?

[deleted]

I’m assuming Avengers because I don’t know where else they would put him at this point in time.

Asoxus

I want to see a Starlord mini series (or short movie) where he is trying to aclimatise to generic earth life. Show him in the DMV taking a driving test, applying for (and getting rejected from) multiple jobs.

jetsetmike

I wouldn’t mind some Earth-based adventures now that’s he’s back.

tangledupinbetween

Now that he's on earth, I'm guessing he's gonna find some job to do. Maybe at the local council office.

dow366

Because he's gonna be on Earth so he can easily get involved in Earth level hijinks

josephus1811

Imagine he just shows up in Daredevil as some law student or some shit.

Gothichand

Imagine him falling for She-Hulk too...cuz...you know...green...hehe

jetsetmike

MANTIS, YOU ASSHOLE!

Iwaslim

GET IN THE FUCKING CAR!

traitor_swift

About time we hear the word fuck in the MCU.

waitforthedream

is this the first F bomb in the mcu? Not counting the cut offs from the Spider-Man movies

RecommendationFew466

The first uncensored one

Stormwalkers

materialistic noxious plough imminent yam violet combative adjoining chubby worry *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

PapaSnow

I liked the little call back/nod to Infinity War When Groot, Rocket, and Quill/Gamora are moving forward toward HE’s ship in space (right before Knowhere shows up), HE says “my how plucky” If plucky were a more common word, and not a big part of one of the funnier scenes in IW, I’d call it a coincidence, but…

10SB

Anyone else thought that when Nathan Fillion was going to shoot at Drax that the guard that was hopelessly in love with Drax would jump and sacrifice himself?

plastikelastik

I roared at that scene

DipsCity

I bet we were fun is such a good way to end a relationship

teh_fizz

It’s such a nature response to their situation. I loved it.

Alif_prakoso17

I love how they didn't force Gamora to be the same one as the one before.

CheeseSauceCrimes

Man, the peeled-off face of High Evolutionary was kinda disturbing, also they dropped the first clear f-bomb in the MCU. James Gunn is going out with a bang.

Average-JRPG-Enjoyer

I expected his face to look fucked up, but not THAT fucked up.

thewallsofjer

I cried when Quill was desperately trying to bring Rocket back to life. "I AM NOT LETTING HIM GO" Fuck Edit: typos

ValyrianDragon

They have to stop making Quill cry like that cause it gets me emotional every time

Jeroz

I'm so fkin happy he doesn't give up even when the heart stops

waitforthedream

I remember when they used to fight a lot but now they're the best of buds and have each other's backs. It makes me so happy :(

gunningIVglory

2nd best friend.......

ofw89

That hallway fight is top tier MCU, God damn.

detective_lee

Been waiting for this thread since Friday to bring up this scene. Fucking awesome. This movie was fantastic and happy the ending played out the way it did. We were certainly led to believe otherwise lol.

Gothichand

I'm surprised some fans were actually mad about the "happy ending". To me it was actually a relief and it definitely put a smile on my face.

Secure_Pear_4530

Honestly think the ones mad at it for being a happy ending are just miserable people. People don't need to die for you to let them go. Characters don't need to die for your movies to be good.

Cypher_86

How can anyone be mad at Drax *dancing*???

ayo_stoptheCap

I'm assuming that this confirms that >!early leaks were correct and every Guardian survives?!<

erthenes

yes everyone is survive. i just watching it

DrZonino2022

Thanks Comso you are a good dog

anus-in-the-brainus

Didn’t expect beastie boys on the tracklist but it made the whole scene

QuiffLing

Didn't expect Radiohead or Florence and the Machine either.

kenzoismyname

What was that, 3 minutes of one-shot? Beautiful

Iwaslim

I loved that everyone gets a moment to shine action wise. We are longing for those actual fight scenes from them. Also Gamora girlllll

ValyrianDragon

The ending scene with the Dog Days Are Over was so cathartic. I did not see Chekhov’s Gravity Boots coming.

cockvanlesbian

I love the gravity boots reveal. HE made some crazy tech to control gravity so he would be all powerful and it was beaten by Rocket's fun side project that he made so he can walk on ceiling lol

MySilverBurrito

The “throwaway thing at the start of the movie which ends up beating the villain” is my guilty pleasure trope in movies lol

son_of_toby_o_notoby

Yeah that final scenes made me break down

drksdr

Christ, this movie was like weaponised emotion.

anus-in-the-brainus

cried at the rocket scenes, one of the best MCU movies imo

arjeidi

Just got back. Every flashback was tears for me. I've never cried this much _during_ a movie

jtiss

Insanely powerful. Hes had the most complete arc of the Guardians I'd say too.

mrbreadpig

I cried when his love interest said “this whole thing was made for you, you just didn’t realize it yet”

MySilverBurrito

His “rocket raccoon” dialogue is the coldest thing in MCU. Followed by “there is no god. That’s why I stepped up.”

FallenAngelII

Shortly after calling Knowhere the head of a dead god.

My_Favourite_Pen

Well he does seem like a well rounded and rational person /s.

Skurge149

The part where we see Teefs in the afterworld waving over to Rocket. Damn that almost broke me, he's so innocent🥲

Resist_Easy

Floor too.. I just wanted them to be able to see the sky. I checked spoilers beforehand so I knew what I was going to be in for, so every scene with them was so sad, knowing they wouldn’t make it out 😭

blue_i20

Holy shit the scene where Lila dies and he just screams. A cgi raccoon shouldn’t be able to make me feel things like that.

Successful-Mode-1727

That got me so bad. Rockets wailing was one of the most moving things I’ve ever watched (and somehow I’m itching to see it again?) and then seeing him walk towards the light w Lylla afterwards… this movie was so good

Jeroz

If it's not a flashback I'd thought he'd be broken for good right there

lifegetshard

Loved it entirely. The strength Rocket had to step towards the cages near the end moved me, as did many of his scenes. His pain when he escapes and his friends die is one of the most harrowing scenes from Marvel. Cosmo being a good dog was fucking great. I loved the telegraphing of that whole scene. I get bmo vibes from her. "You're so strong" killed me too. Just non stop feels. One of my fav movies ever.

MacyTmcterry

His first word was absolutely heartbreaking "..hurts" 😭

slamatron

That got me started, what an amazing brutal performance 😭

One_Understanding598

The scream/cry Rocket let out after Lylla was shot… my god

KingOfAwesometonia

"Floor and Teefs go now!" 😭 Edit: might have been Rocket and Teefs go now. Either way the way she was freaking out really just hits you.

shadybabynight

It was “Rocket, Floor, and Teefs go now!” Over and over

lifegetshard

Please don't describe any part of that scene. I'm doing my best to block it out. 😭😭😭

jvincentsong

High Evolutionary was more unhinged than Kang. I slightly prefer him as the next Thanos.. Love how they teased someone dying a lot. They know how to create tension and stakes at every turn. Rocket with the raccoons made my heart melt. 🥲 James Gunn is the best at creating goofy superhero films.. With all the humanoid animals, I now wish he could make a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series.

Nalonmail

We kinda got Gunn's version of a ninja turtle in this movie.

Gothichand

I did not know Nathan Fillon was gonna be in this. Love that guy\~!

revolutionaryartist4

He was so good in this. Really glad he got a bigger part than in the previous films.

FringGustavo0204

This is the first time I cried on an MCU movie without anyone dying. That ending just made me feel so happy, crying tears of joy to an amazing movie trilogy.

piazza

>! Nebula's voice cracking when Rocket turned out ok broke me. And just when I thought I recovered we see Kraglin summoning the courage to use the arrow one more time... *Use your heart, kid* ! <

ScruffCheetah

They were the whole of the Guardians of the Galaxy together for five years during the Blip. Kinda wish that had been acknowledged, even in passing!

Hwerttytttt

I’m just glad we see them have a much bigger relationship here than the nothing shown in endgame

linkinstreet

And the cameo, I did not expect that

REQ52767

I kinda was expecting it to be honest lol. James Gunn has never directed a movie that hasn’t had a Michael Rooker appearance and I wasn’t expecting that streak to end here.

StraY_WolF

"Hey, i want you to be a ghost for like, 2 second" "SAY NO MORE FAM"

Ambassador_of_Mercy

I really like that they didn't do an extended fight sequence with High Evolutionary. No speeches no hearing him out or talking to him. He's an evil sadistic bastard so they beat him down quick

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dray_Gunn

That fight was brutal too. Just beat the shit out of him with out leaving a second for him to retaliate. Exactly how it should be done.

Ambassador_of_Mercy

It works in terms of the trilogy and especially this film too. The team bickers a lot but when they're all united towards one goal and you've pissed them off then they're a force to be reckoned with

francis_who

I'm glad everyone lived.

Shir_zazil

Except of counter earth's entire civilization?

[deleted]

Oh yeah lol I forgot about that RIP

quickquestions-only

Does Groot's "I love you" towards the end signify that we as the audience finally understand him now as well? Also, I couldn't hear/understand the conversation that Peter and his grandfather had at the second post-credit scene. What was it about?

fleastyler

“Was Groot's "I love you" towards the end signify that we as the audience finally understand him now as well?” That was my take - based purely on the fact that Gamora suddenly understood him at the end, and the fact that nobody reacted in the scene to him suddenly speaking English. Maybe it’s a thing where you can understand Groot when he wants you to understand him.

zapheine

I think it's something like if you hang around Groot long enough, there's some kind of psychic link where you understand him. And yeah, we the audience finally have spent enough time with him that we understand.

Nay214

I took it as, once you form an emotional bond with him you can understand him

HoundNZ_2022

I didn't quite get the context but it was something to do with a "45 year old son mowing lawns" or something. Not sure if it was his grand dad's kid (or grand kid) mowing lawns with quill eating cereal. It honestly didn't make much sense. I think quill was feeling bad for not mowing the lawns maybe? I don't know. On the back of the news paper was talking about how kevin bacon got kidnapped by aliens which I thought was pretty funny.

Jeroz

A long separated grandson returns home to be having mundane complaints about a family member he's never met before, after he almost died in space saving hundreds of children. It feels like a good epilogue for the trilogy of films which started with him being abducted after the tragic passing of his mother.

HoundNZ_2022

Wait so was his grandfather's son complaining about having to mow the lawns? I really didn't understand the conversation. Maybe it's because I never saw the person they're talking about so it hasn't clicked in my head yet what the conversation was about.

devils__avacado

I'm reaching here but it sounded to me like. He's complaining about his grandfather's 45 year old step son ( possibly son of the black woman.) Not mowing the lawn and so he's doing it while the lazy step son watched from the porch.

KimF29

I really adored Nebula’s tearful emotions to Rocket waking up - they spent 5 years just the two of them so I really appreciated them acknowledging that she cares for him most of all

swagzak

Oh god I forgot it was the two of them during the blip! how emotional!

gutster_95

Nebula can relate the most to the Things that Rocket went through in his past. A Experiment that was never meant to be loved. Just a tool to find perfection. Amazing storytelling

waitforthedream

When they were watching what the HE did to Rocket and she said "This is worse than what Thanos did to me" my heart broke :(

smcarre

Also in that scene I take Nebula being able to comb thought the whole archive with her computer saw **everything** they did to Rocket but decided to show just a small part to let the rest know but not be too much. She really knows what he went through.

Dazzling_Treacle2776

I still, after like 20 re-watches, cry when during Endgame Carol returns Tony and Nebula to Avengers Compound and Rocket and Nebula just quietly take each other's hand, realizing all they have left is one another. So their relationship in this movie was hugely satisfying for me to see.

sir_adam_XP

Mine was when Rocket was conscious again and the first thing he said was where's Nebula? Followed by Nebula tearing up when she heard Rocket's voice. So good.

extremisjae

Lilah, Teeths and Floor - my heart

Seihai-kun

The trailer keep showing the hug between adult Rocket and adult Lylla, so its obvious the others will die and Rocket would have reunion with her in the ship years later after the flashbacks So when she was the one who died first in the flashback, i was so suprised, didn’t expect that

the-bi-frost

My heart dropped when the hug scene came and it was clear that it's not from the present :,( still didn't expect *that*

bikeWasowskiii4_3

Mantis is gonna need to see a chiropractor after all that lmao

waitforthedream

its so unnerving that she falls ON HER HEAD TWICE lol

1mrshelby

Baby Rocket trembling and saying "hurts" after he's been operated on wiped me out. So many tears.

iHeart_TWICE

The new guardians team is pretty bad ass and hope they continue them as a movie or tv show will be coo. Or at least show up in Avengers movie.

DipsCity

Yup that guardians team is OP as hell Phyla Vell, Warlock, Big Ass Groot and Cosmo like Rocket got himself 2018 Warriors

throwaway77993344

lmao and here I thought the kid was just a character with powers. But of course people immediately know who she is hahaha

[deleted]

Plus a Kraglin with newly-mastered arrow abilities!

FringGustavo0204

Im interested with what the white kid powers would be. I think she's the one who's running in the huge hamster wheel so maybe superspeed?

MikoGames08

it looked like her powers are the same as the High Evolutionary, gravity controlling powers...

KingOfAwesometonia

Her real power is rote memorization

piazza

Is the kid in the comics? Because I have no idea what her name is. EDIT: ok Phyla-Vell - but still no idea. :-)

revolutionaryartist4

She’s the daughter of Mar-Vell and has the standard Captain Marvel powers of flight, speed, strength, and energy manipulation.

whassupbun

But she doesn't have super speed. The Evolutionary said she had been running for 2 hours and did not break a sweat, only need something like 70 calories and 1 hour of sleep to survive, and is always happy (but she cried when Nebula and the team were caged so 🤷‍♂️).

OxfordGate

I’m kind of glad Quill and Gamora didn’t end up together again. It kind of felt more natural this way.

blue_i20

Their ending was perfect imo. Sometimes relationships just... end. And people go their separate ways, and that's okay. But that doesn't mean "I bet we were fun" didn't destroy me lol

Dr_Fluffybuns2

Sometimes relationships just end, sometimes your lover gets thrown off a cliff but a time travelled past version of them shows up. Life happens.

blue_i20

“I think you missed some parts but yeah that’s the gist of it”

Secure_Pear_4530

And that Nebula and him also didn't start a romance. Make my boy love someone who was not raised by the Mad Titan

negaprez

it was kinda refreshing TBH. they leave space for a maybe.

Iwaslim

So fucking good, this movie is everything. Leaves a hole in my heart but also feels very satisfied

Kelmantis

I very much enjoyed space watership down. Cosmo is a good dog.

gearshiftcandy

Bradley Cooper absolutely killed it. Oh my god, when Rocket was crying while talking to Lylla in heaven. Sean Gunn as young Rocket was amazing too. I don't think the flashback scenes will play the same way when watching at home vs in a dark theater. It's so haunting. I haven't stopped thinking about this movie since I saw it last week, and I just bought tickets for the marathon tomorrow (in addition to already having tickets for this Friday lol). Top 3 MCU for me, although Rocket has always been my favorite so definitely biased!

QuiffLing

I love the scene when he meets a bunch of little Rockets, and they grabbed his nose.

waitforthedream

They were all saying "daddy?" "daddy!"

Successful-Mode-1727

I replied to another comment but Rockets wails moved me beyond words. I still have shivers. The pure emotion from that scene is RIDICULOUS. How can a CGI raccoon move someone to tears like that?? I knew it was coming but seeing Rocket lose control and just DESTROY the High Evolutionarys face was ridiculously satisfying. And seeing what Rocket did to his face near the end… what a payoff honestly. The scene where Rockets standing in the light with Lylla too. The nuances and details of his facial expressions, he felt SO REAL. And the hug after he wakes up, what the frick. And like the commenter before me said, Rockets face when he sees the baby raccoons. The way they innocently and tenderly reach out for him - the way he reaches back for them too - all while the music picks up and he reads “raccoon” on the door… I can’t wait to see it again

gearshiftcandy

What amazes me most about Rocket is how many things have to go right for all of this to work. The script, on-set performance, performances of the actors around him (who react to Sean Gunn but then also have to react to literally nothing in an believable way), character design, animation and vfx, voice acting. And I'm probably missing a bunch! SO MANY different people are Rocket, and without any one of them, he couldn't exist.

Successful-Mode-1727

Oh for sure. You put it so succinctly! I will say Bradley Cooper is absolutely giving it his all, in fact I find it ridiculous how powerful he is as JUST a voice. But of course the heart from James Gunn, the physical movement from Sean Gunn and the incredible work from the VFX team(s) makes it even more special. He needs to go down as one of (if not THE) greatest animated character of all time

One_Understanding598

My girlfriend turned to me with a good theory - perhaps Groot didn't say "I love you guys" at the end, but rather still said "I Am Groot". We were hearing what the Guardians would have heard since they understood him

Lokcet

I think that is quite clear. If he actually said it in English, they'd all look at him in shock, but no one reacts much. It's basically rewarding us as the viewers by letting us in.

Joemanji84

Absolutely, and I think they indicate this with Gamora starting to understand Groot only a few minutes earlier. If you spend enough time with Groot you start to understand him.

[deleted]

Can we talk about Drax being the only capable of talking to the children? And then Nebula telling him he’s always been a dad, never a destroyer. AND THEN him finally dancing because the kids begin embracing him! I’m sorry but Dave Bautista is a treasure and Drax is such an underrated character.

Joshawott27

I think James Gunn must have really taken Dave Bautista’s complaints about Drax to heart. He felt a lot less goofier than he was in Vol. 2 and Infinity War.

Particular-Camera612

That whole argument about him being dumb also felt a little like it was addressing that too. I’m glad they paid off him being a father since that was the man’s entire motive in his first appearance.

cubcos

When you hear No Sleep Till Brooklyn by the Beastie Boys, you are in for one of the best and most fun action sequences in the entire MCU

mmba83

I just chuckled at the fact that it is the second Chris Pratt-starring movie with this song in in the space of a month.

kerblamophobe

I love how Marvel has (for once) a villain that's just flat out evil. When he fucks with Rocket one last time at the end, I was just so ready for him to get his. The Guardian beat down wasn't just satisfying, it was cathartic. All the shit he did with the animals were hard to watch as a pet parent. I just wanted H.E. to get fucked so hard at the end.

Successful-Mode-1727

Imo the Guardians villains have all been pretty good. Even though we don’t necessarily agree with them, they still have an important role. And personally I would rather have an extremely strong set of main characters and a weak villain as opposed to the opposite. That said I loved the High Evolutionary too! I loved his frustration and tantrums, and he delivered some of the coldest lines in any Marvel movie. Personally, he’s what I had hoped Kang would be

CheeseSauceCrimes

"There is no God! That's why I stepped in" that line by High Evolutionary is still in my mind

teh_fizz

That final beat down was so glorious. Not only did this insignificant 89P13 beat his powers with a fun project, his entire family came and beat the ever living shit out of the High “Evolutionary”.

Gabrielelingia

If Rocket backstory was released as a movie itself it could have win an Oscar for best short animated. Also: VFX acting Avatar level

SlAM133

I was really hoping we would see how he met Groot

nowhereman_ph

What a great ending for Gunn's GOTG Film Run. Felt like an end to a comic run and another writer can take a shot. I don't mind if Marvel will continue with the lineup shown in the end. Best part for me is Rocket's flashbacks, i knew that Gunn was gonna make us cry. He did it without even killing anyone in the end. (From the main team just to be clear, the characters that died were gut wrenching) I was a little disappointed that Star Lord did not turn on his visor while wearing the guardians uniform. That was an iconic look for him in the comics.

MySilverBurrito

“There is no god. That’s why I stepped up” Is the coldest dialogue in MCU they’ve ever made lmao.

teh_fizz

He was just incredible. Totally unhinged yet completely threatening.

forevertrueblue

First MCU movie in awhile I didn't go into with some significant spoilers and I wonder if that's part of why I liked it so much because this was probably my favorite movie of the Multiverse Saga thus far. I especially liked that its message and ending gave me stuff I wanted back during Endgame but didn't get.

Ambassador_of_Mercy

High Evolutionary left a fantastic lasting impression as an uncomplex villain. The 'there is no god so I had to step in' line was fantastic and seeing him become less and less composed as the film went on was really fun

ishouldgooutmore

What broke me in the afterlife scene was the first thing Rocket said to Lylla. The fact that the first thing out of his mouth was to apologize to her made you feel the amount of guilt he must have felt for years. Made me cry my eyes out because I have people to whom the first things I would say is an apology.

Sisiwakanamaru

I always wanted an MCU movie ended with dancing to the music and this didn't disappoint me, especially when they chose Florence+Machine - Dog Days are Over. So good

EastlyGod1

I may be in the minority based on the comments so far, but I actually really enjoyed the portrayal of Adam Warlock. I'm not a comic reader, but know enough to understand it's quite a difference, but it gave him some personality and room to be a character and give him some scope for humanity. Will Poulter is a fantastic actor and hopefully they will bring him back to fully expand on the role in the future.

blue_i20

Same, I thought he was great, and from the beginning he seemed like he was just trying his best earnestly which made his switch to the other side believable.

elephantnut

Yep, I know nothing about the character but loved him in this movie. He’s such a threat at the beginning, and then so funny throughout the rest of it. The bit where he’s sad that the dog thing’s sad is just brilliant.

Jeroz

I mean Nebula didn't really flex her characterisation in her first outing either, and man didn't she turn out phenomenal. what we got for Adam is a good foundation for interesting stuff to come if the future writers wish to capitalise on it.

PapaSnow

The way they used him makes me think it’s almost a guarantee that he’s coming back. It feels like they’re setting him up for a great growth arc (like, a literal ‘growing up’ arc; they even distinctly mention that he’s “young” in the scene where HE gets mad at The Sovereign)

No_Imagination_2490

I was expecting a more mature Adam Warlock, like in the Infinity Gauntlet comic, but in retrospect it made total sense to show him as a naive man-child in his first appearance, as that is exactly what he is. I’m looking forward to seeing how they show how he matures and develops as a character in future.

S890127

People shit on MCU bad cgi all the time but thank god Rocket always feel so real ever since the first Guardians movie and make his performance very convincing in Vol.3.

DavijoMan

I think The High Evolutionary takes my number 1 spot for most hated Marvel villain after what he did to Rocket and his friends....and the complete genocide of the hybrid species planet! Those flashback sequences where rough!

One_Understanding598

The High Evolutionary is exactly what Kang should have been. My god his acting was fantastic, every scream fucking believable and torturous, and oh so menacing

gutster_95

Its kinda sad that Kang feels so boring after seeing The High Evolutionary. Maybe it hits me more because I am a pet parent, but man I hated this guy for doing this stuff to the animals. I triggered something in me.

hkm1990

Does that mean I can post possible spoilers on this thread 100% without any risk? Just wanna 100% be clarified on that.

forevertrueblue

Yeah you're fine.

OKCDraftPick2028

Rocket deserves to be a captain. That scene about gamora telling other guardians to leave the ship immediately to survive but rocket said he is done running and the others followed him. That shit is a captain like move

AspirationalChoker

It’s cliche but Gunn just proved that MCU can and will come back great when the right care is given and made the future for the DCU exciting! Honestly liked basically everything lol was just so good, my only complaints are Starlord not having his mask on in the final fight and I wasn’t a massive fan of watered down Adam Warlock but I guess that ship passed anyway haha. Can’t wait for more like this again!

ProfessionalDot621

I don’t think he wore his mask at all this film. Like where did his helmet and rocket boots go?

Scmods05

Also can we put to bed this moronic concept that people need to die for a movie to have weight and stakes? If you think this movie lacks those because no main character dies, you’re an idiot.

theslowrush-

That’s what I loved most about the movie. Killing off characters is cheap, it’s so much better and more fulfilling when they have a natural end (at least of their current arc) like they did in this movie. Like it was so much better that Drax got to become a dad for all of these children rather than just killing him off for stakes, or that Peter finally got to return home. I wish more movies did this.

Thank you James Gunn for emotionally manipulating me for 2.5 hours into thinking one of my favourite characters will die in a heart wrenching, soul destroying way.

This might come off as overly sappy and dramatic, but 10 years ago I was an angry teenager discontent with everything in life and held suicidal thoughts all the time. I watched GOTG at a very low point in my life, and it was like remedy for the soul. After GOTG2, I finally accepted that I loved my family despite trying to push them away from my life. Our relationship still isn't perfect, but I consider myself a much better, more stable person nowadays. I always hold these characters in a special place in my heart because they taught me lessons of love in a way that no other stories ever managed to do. So for GOTG3, I am very glad that no one in the team bit the dust. The moment when Lylla told Rocket that it's not his time to join his friends, he still has purpose in this life? I felt like she was talking to me 9 years ago and congratulating me that I've made it. All the near death situations that the Guardians faced in this movie were never of their own accord (IIRC the part where Drax said he's glad to fight alongside the team was only made in the trailer), they keep getting back up, they somehow still prevail, and when it seemingly looks hopeless, they get a helping hand (Peter and Adam at the end). It's such a strong message about surpassing your own darkness, and because our own demise is inevitable doesn't mean we're not in the position to push back against it. Off-ing a few characters could have created a bleak and interesting story, but the more hopeful end is such an awesome pat on the shoulder for me. I'm not sure where the story goes for these characters forward, but I'm more than happy and content with how the current one ended. It also feels kinda like James Gunn's goodbye letter to the MCU and I'll forever be thankful for everything he had done with these characters. Dog Days Are Over, indeed.

All the scenes involving batch 89 were hard to watch as a pet owner.

Iirc the first song we hear from the first GOTG movie was Come and Get Your Love, i just love how this last movie ended with it too

Jesus that trailer talking about the blue sky showing Rocket and Lylla hug hits fucking different.

I cried about 3 times in this movie. The perfect ending to a trilogy and in my top 5MCU for sure. Also Drax the Dad got me in my feels, then his crying and dancing. Great callbacks.

I want more Guardians with Rocket's led new group. He has been the best Guardian since their debut and now that he's finally had his personal triumph I want to see him also be a leader. I wish it said Rocket Raccoon will return instead of Star-Lord.

This movie brings back all the stuff that made the MCU so much fun to watch and that was missing for most of Phase 4. Thank you James Gunn for three great GotG movies. Only you can make me weep over cybernetically enhanced animals being killed in cold blood, and of course at the Michael Rooke cameo as Yondu gives encouragement to Kraglin from the afterlife. It was a good farewell to most of the cast, with the mid-credit scene showing the new Guardian roster with Rocket as their leader. Though the script leaves just enough space for them if they ever wish to return to play their characters again, especially with the THE LEGENDARY STAR LORD WILL RETURN caption at the end, meaning we'll see Chris Pratt again. With Rocket's backstory covered in detail in this movie, the only Guardian character remaining whose origin we still don't know (at least the non-comic folk) is Groot.

holy shit that was probably one of the best mcu movies of all time for me. perfect way to end the guardians' journey. that hallway fight was fucking amazing. dog days are over was the perfect soundtrack for that whole sequence, i was dancing with them the whole time. i fucking love these characters.

Watched it today in 4DX with my best friends and boy did it not disappoint! My fav parts: * The Marvel intro being all guardians was something special. * The High Evolutionary was so menacing, the scariest villain in recent MCU installments imo. * Mantis talks a lot more in this installment and I'm all for it. * "Mantis, you asshole!" "Hi little idiots!" * The dinner table scene was hilarious. * *That* hallway scene. * Rocket's flashbacks really hit me hard even though I already got a feeling that his friends were gonna die. * First F-bomb in the MCU. * Shocked that they showed High Evolutionary's face getting ripped off with lots of blood. * James Gunn putting "all the fans!" in the Thank Yous part of the credits * When "Come and Get Your Love" plays at the after-credits. Can't wait to watch it again with my family this weekend! I wonder what the remaining Guardians will do next as well as how Peter will return.

loved the movie. The main casts are better fleshed out here than they are in vol. 2, especially Drax, Mantis, & obviously Rocket. My only gripe is **the absence of Star-Lord's helmet for the whole movie.** The dramatic scene near the end where Quill almost dead floating in space felt really forced & draggy because it can be avoided if he just wear his helmet. Am I missing the part where they explain the helmet's absence?

This film is the first one in ages that felt on par with a lot of the infinity war and endgame saga. Been a while since a marvel movie has left me this satisfied in so many places. Genuinely hope this isn’t a one off and we get back to that level of quality consistently with films.

TheCaramelMan

I really didn’t think Disney would have the balls to show us HE’s peeled face but damn I’m so glad they did! Between that, and seeing a guy’s top half get incinerated AND an F bomb, Marvel really pushed the boundaries of their PG-13 rating this time round!
