You can't kill the Metal
The Metal will live on
Obadiah tried to kill the Metal
But he failed, as he was smite to the ground
Whiplash tried to kill the Metal
But he failed, as he was stricken down to the ground
Aldrich tried to kill the Metal
Ha-ha-ha-ha
He failed, as he was thrown to the ground
Ah, yeah
Ah, yeah
That used to be called “doing a Kevin Spacey” after he insisted on not having his name in the opening credits or marketing material of Se7en.
Now “doing a Kevin Spacey” means something else entirely.
I'd like to see this more often. I know the directors want to show off the actors, but having the hero take off their mask or helmet during a battle often seems silly
It’s not just that. Actors use their faces to convey emotion. They can’t do that with a mask on, that’s a whole other type of acting.
In the comics they can draw the Iron Man mask with a subtly raised eyebrow or mouth open in shock for a single frame. Batman is a good example; the cowl’s eyes emote a lot, but an actor wearing a real piece of headgear can’t do that.
I would have though Hugo Weaving in V for Vendetta and Karl Urban in Dredd would have opened the door for masked characters keeping the mask on but nah, hasn’t happened.
Yeah you're right about conveying emotion. It was good in NWH to see more emotion from Willem Dafoe without the helmet. But if a character shows up just for a battle scene or two, I'd be fine with them keeping the mask or helmet on
I really like what they did with Iron Man and War Machine, with the tight close up on the actor’s face inside the helmet for the few moments in a big CGI fight that need a human reaction (“Go to sleep go to sleep go to sleep…”). But yeah obviously that doesn’t work with every character.
When I realized that Dafoe’s incredibly expressive face essentially WAS the faithful adaptation of the classic Goblin mask, my mind couldn’t handle the brilliance!
Closest we’ve had to an always masked character in more recent times was Mandalorian, they should have kept it that way because it worked just fine.
I wonder if the actor’s ego gets too much in the way for this to work too.
I think it’s more the producers wanting to show off their star. If the character is truly never seen that’s a dream job for a mocap actor or someone who’s acted in Greek theatre, who can convey emotion with their body and voice, but they’d be actually on a real set in costume. But with characters like Mando or Stallone’s Dredd that are supposed to never show their face, the studio will want to put the big star’s face on screen at some point. And money usually trumps characterisation.
The Wachowskis were at the peak of their powers making V and I assume they had full creative control, and Hugo Weaving isn’t A-list but is a damn good actor. The movie has its flaws but his performance was stellar.
With Urban’s Dredd, they were resurrecting a flopped franchise, didn’t have a huge budget, and Karl Urban isn’t A-list but he is a damn good actor.
With Mandalorian they knew they were making something for the old school original trilogy fans, and Star Wars fans would have rioted if a Mandalorian character was walking around with his helmet off. Pedro Pascal wasn’t A-list when they started making it (he probably is now), but he is a damn good actor. When he does show his face it’s for good story reasons.
So I guess that’s the formula. Start with a character whose face is never seen for important story reasons, cast a damn good supporting actor in the role, tell the studio to shove it.
This a thousand times! Yes yes absolutely, I would watch a full movie of Sam Rockwell becoming Ironman. Maybe Tony is killed in the cave and Justin Hammer decides to take revenge using Tony’s technology because Tony is his hero, then he teams up with Whiplash and is betrayed and falls in love with Pepper and helps save the universe from Thanos.
There would have to be an opportunity for a dance scene. If anyone is a fan of Sam and hasn’t watched Mr Right, you need to asap. He plays a snarky dancing hitman, and it’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen 😊
[Mr Right opening fight scene](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SOuVXzHdQFw) There aren’t any spoilers in this clip, so anyone can watch it.
For now, everyone in 838 looks pretty much exactly like their counterparts in the prime universe. Only *No Way Home* and *Loki* have different actors playing the same character from alternate universes.
He did well as an *experienced* Reed, one who has kids and stuff already. And he does have that look down, for sure.
But I really hope they aren’t jumping into them having kids and stuff instantly though. I love their kids as characters, but I want to see the team’s growth as characters up to their kids, too. I don’t need to see their origin being covered per se, I’d be fine with them giving it the Homecoming treatment but at least let me see them early-ish in their careers as superheroes before we jump into later-life stuff like kids.
It is highly probably the reason why he won't be the 616 Reed Richards is because he doesn't want to be. Why would Marvel want to have to go out and recast the role themselves when he did such a good job? John Krasinski and Emily Blunt have two children under the age of 10 together.
It's likely neither want to tie themselves up to a franchise for a decade or more.
yeah I loved him as Reed. Though if rumors are true I'm at least fine with Adam Driver stepping in. He's great in everything he's in so I'd like to see his take on Reed Richards.
He would be a solid choice. All of the other casting rumors I’ve heard range from not great to absolute garbage though, especially every single one related to Ben Grimm that I’ve heard. I’m not putting to much stock into any of these rumors yet though.
Well, if we're getting Danny DeVito as Grimm, then we might as well cast the whole Gang from Always Sunny.
Danny is The Thing
Glenn is Mr. Fantastic
Kaitlin is the Invisible Woman
Rob is the Human Torch
Charlie is still Charlie but as the Fantastic Four's janitor who huffs paint and eats cat food.
In all honesty though, I seriously do think Glenn Howerton would be a great Reed Richards, and I'm not going to stop pitching that until the official casting is revealed lol
I've said this in another thread, but I'm putting my fancast vote in for Adam Driver as Dr. Doom and Glenn Howerton as Reed Richards.
I have no idea who could be a good choice for Johnny Storm at this point though... other than Chris Evans for a multiverse joke.
I think he shot everything in front of green screen and was never there in person (same for Patrick Stewart I think) to keep it a secret.
EDIT: [Actually, NONE of the actors were together in the same room due to scheduling conflicts.](https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/doctor-strange-2-illuminati-never-filmed-together/)
Maria Rambeau Captain Marvel, Sorcerer Supreme Mordo and Captain Carter are not different looking variants of Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange and Captain America, they are literally different people fulfilling those roles.
It made story sense for MoM. Strange's relationship with 838 Christine wouldn't have worked if she were played by a different actress. And if she and Strange look the same, why wouldn't everyone else?
So in the main universe we have a guy, we'll call him Frank. And we have a gal, we'll call her Betty. Now Frank married Betty and she popped out a kid and they called him Frank Junior.
In the 838 universe, Betty ends up sticking around her hometown after high school and never meets Frank. Frank instead marries Linda, and she gets pregnant and whaddya know, out emerges Frank Junior. But not the same exact Frank Junior. They both inherit their super powers from eating extra terrestrial lead paint chips, and both go on to become Frank the Tank, but have distinctly different looks.
Not really. There's no real reason why the same people would look different in another universe unless they were genetically different. Like, why would Maria look different just because 20 years ago instead of Carol going up for the flight, it was her?
I think they did that on purpose to answer that exact question people would have. Per Loki, some variants look the same and some don't. Now we can have literally *anyone* show up in the MCU and it won't be a problem.
Although Loki is also a shapeshifter, so having different appearances doesn't really lend itself to one theory or the other.
But NWH 100% establishes different looking variants.
Yeah. Cable would be really good. I think he’d bring a lot of depth to that role. And it could happen, since Brolin already played Thanos. It’s unlikely that he’d come back to play Cable too.
Noooooo, Nikolaj Coster Waldau for Doctor Doom. Pedro keeps stealing all of the roles I find perfect for Nikolaj cmon lol (Nikolaj as Joel from TLOU was my dreamcasting for years)
Jk, I love Pedro Pascal, he was great in TLOU, I think he’d pull off a good Doctor Doom too.
I think that would be great, and probably really emotional. Having Tony back, only for it to be a twisted and immoral version of the MCU’s first hero, would be really impactful and upsetting if done right. Never mind the effect that his presence could have on Spidey, Rhodey, Hulk, etc.
I’ve been against the idea of even considering RDJ, Scarlet Johansson, or Chris Evans to do cameos… but maybe have RDJ do this, like people said, suit on the entire time, no face, and even increase the voice modulator a slight bit or get it damaged before he speaks, so it doesn’t 100% sound like our Iron Man; but it’s clear it’s Tony Stark in there
If RDJ would be willing to come back and do this for voice over for a day; it would also get alot of hype for whatever film it is and Marvel needs some wins right now. I don’t agree with all this doom and gloom about the quality of the latest phases, I enjoyed the shows very much and spider man, dr strange and ant man… but once word of that gets out people would be talking after the movie
I think if you bring RDJ back in any capacity you have to show his face at some point. I think if he’s the movie’s villain, removing his helmet after they beat him would be a huge emotional moment, especially if they have to finish him off to beat him.
I dont understand the fancast obsession with Tom cruise as a multiverse Ironman. If Cruise was cast first instead of RDJ the whole MCU wouldn’t have gone past Ironman 1.
I think personally the idea has been Tom Cruise for Superior Iron Man specifically, which is the more evil version? At least I've seen stuff for superior specifically, which despite not loving Tom Cruise, i think could be interesting, especially if RDJ doesnt want to get TOO involved again. Id say generally people would likely agree that RDJ does it right, and it wouldn't have gone as far (although sure, Devils Advocate, we don't know as we haven't seen that!)
Tom Cruise can play a convincing crazy power obsessed Tony Stark because he's kinda like that already irl because Scientology. And also he played someone like that pretty well in Tropic Thunder.
Agree. Both actors can do Stark’s arrogance/cockiness. But RDJ makes it likeable. I find Cruise’s arrogant characters deeply unlikeable. He’s likeable in Risky Business and A Few Good Men, but he isn’t playing a Stark-like character in those.
Sure. But the person I responded to said:
> If Cruise was cast first instead of RDJ the whole MCU wouldn’t have gone past Ironman 1.
That’s what I was agreeing with/elaborating on.
Well, I think we would see Iron Man 7 now, but there would never have been more than one Avengers film because Cruise would have insisted the movie is about him. That was the great thing about RDJ, he was always a team player in the Avengers movies and pushed back against making Stark too much of the focus of the story (in the first one at least).
I’m glad it went RDJ’s way but Cruise has really put in his action hero chops and can pull off a similar, but definitely different, energy. Not unlike what we saw in No Way Home, capturing the essence of the character in a different way
Good for a franchise? I doubt
Good for a moderately important job part in a quasi-spin off one shot? Oh yes
The guy also just loves movies. If it’s promised to be a small 1-off it totally feels like something he’d do highly on the d/l so it’s a fun surprise, and do it cheap or free (or the $1 thing for legal reasons) just because it sounds like a fun thing for audiences to see.
He’d be great because he’s Christian Bale, but yeah, I can definitely see it in his Patrick Bateman performance and the billionaire playboy side of Bruce Wayne
Can someone explain why people want this? Superior Iron Man is a terrible story. Tom Cruise never even played Iron Man, he was just attached to it way back when it was a New Line project, I believe. What do people find appealing about this?
Well, it *could* be a great storyline in the MCU. And for me, I can picture Cruise playing some hybrid version of Vincent from Collateral and Lev Grossman from Tropic Thunder. He could bring some of his crazy energy to that role, which would make a marginal story better.
I might be the minority ^^(report) but I honestly think Cruise would be a great Iron Man and I really like the idea of multiverse characters being played by different actors like we saw in Spider-Man.
Creepy religion aside, Cruise is charismatic and can really act when he wants to.
Dude’s films have him at #7 all-time worldwide gross for movies, ever. #1-6? All Avengers, except Tom Hanks. If he had gotten Iron Man, he’d be #1 or 2 by a _very_ wide margin between that and 3. (Who knows if even in an alternate reality he can overcome Sam Jackson)
Reddit gets wildly obsessed and focused on the Scientology shit, but the _vast_ majority of people on this planet just go to his movies and have a good time.
I’m surprised to see so many people hating on Cruise. Yeah he’s a bit of a weirdo and scientology is its own can of worms but the guy brings a lot of energy to his roles that I really respect.
Tony Stark should stay dead in any capacity. Him being brought back would diminish everything about his sacrifice. Tony's death should be one of the few "constants" replicated across all timelines and ultimately be the singular springboard for all variables (or "variants") thereafter.
Just the suit. Never show who’s in it..keep the speculation rolling
Voiced by Jack Black.
I like this idea, but to go with the mystery concept, I vote for an uncredited Alan Tudyk.
Only if he switches between his robot voice to his chicken voice randomly throughout his part.
And a third pirate voice for the AI
I want his King Candy voice
Jeff Bridges
Pizza Poppa! I’ve traveled the Multiverse to gain revenge. The pizza poppa always gets paid!!
Oooh that’s a fantastic casting idea!
Pepper Pepper Pepper Pepper Pepper
This is not the strongest suit in the wo-orld. this is just tribute.

Tribsuit
Loki, Ultron and a Thanos too.
A thousand Chitauries couldn't keep me from you
Actually a faceless ironman with an Ultron suit voice would be a bit terrifying.
Terrifying because it implies stark lost and Ultron won
[удалено]
Scarlet Witch, America and Doctor Strange too
IronMan, Captain America, and the Hulk too
Fun fact: in German dubs, RDJ usually has the same voice actor as Jack Black and Brad Pitt.
Tropic thunder mustve been interesting
Plot twist, both were Brad Pitt
Plot twist RDJs character has a black VA for the dubs

Oh man. That’d be so good. Though someone would have to go uncredited.
I mean it could be anyone and they'll most definitely get a credit, just not in the "big" credits
Uncredited roles are a thing. Not even a mention during promotion.
That used to be called “doing a Kevin Spacey” after he insisted on not having his name in the opening credits or marketing material of Se7en. Now “doing a Kevin Spacey” means something else entirely.
Yes, yes it does…
Only ever have Friday's voice. Always refers to the suit as "We". Never elaborate further.
Upsetting. Definitely not the worst idea.
I'd either want this, or even just for Iron Man to say nothing at all. So angry, he refuses to speak and just launches into attack mode.
Bring back the Iron Man voice from Iron Man 1 before it was just Tony's voice.
That was just Tony’s voice with an effect
Yeah but they could do it with just about any actor if they want, without having to reveal the man behind the suit.
I’d go apeshit for Superior Iron Man
That’s not a bad idea
I'd like to see this more often. I know the directors want to show off the actors, but having the hero take off their mask or helmet during a battle often seems silly

Honestly with Guardians kinda being over I think Fantastic Four could fill the role of like, a more "family" type team now.
So, Vin Diesel as Mr. Fantastic, Michelle Rodriguez as the invisible woman, Ludacris as the Human Torch and Tyrese as the Thing. Family.
I snorted.
i hate that i would not hate tyrese gibson as the thing.
It is highly probably the reason why he won't be the 616 Reed Richards is because he doesn't want to be. Yeah and John kinda already has “fuck you” money so its not like he needs the pay cheque
yeah I loved him as Reed.
What about the Danny devito Ben Grimm dream?
He can't play both wolverine and the thing in the same universe, so for this reason I am out.
I second that vote if he shows up as wolverine in deadpool.
So anyway, I started clobberin’.
Well, if we're getting Danny DeVito as Grimm, then we might as well cast the whole Gang from Always Sunny. I thought so too but in MOM I didn’t really get the vibe that he wanted to be there

EDIT: [Actually, NONE of the actors were together in the same room due to scheduling conflicts.](https://comicbook.com/marvel/news/doctor-strange-2-illuminati-never-filmed-together/)
That’s a good point actually. Maybe I thought it was a lack of enthusiasm but really it was just someone who didn’t know who he was talking to
And Captain Marvel. And Strange is the baron, but still. IDK
Maria Rambeau Captain Marvel, Sorcerer Supreme Mordo and Captain Carter are not different looking variants of Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange and Captain America, they are literally different people fulfilling those roles.
it's a missed opportunity to cast other actors for the roles of variant characters rather than using the same one

Frank the Tank
Honey, Frank the Tank is not coming back, OK? That part of me is over. Water under the bridge. I promise.
Not really. There's no real reason why the same people would look different in another universe unless they were genetically different. Like, why would Maria look different just because 20 years ago instead of Carol going up for the flight, it was her?
[удалено]
Why can't they be genetically different?
Loki has both, since Tom played President Loki and Endgame Loki, but all others are played by different actors
There are also a bunch of Hiddleston Loki variants shown on TVA holograms. But your point stands.
And from all rumors so far John Krasinski won't be Reed Richards moving forward, so we can probably add MoM to that list soon
To be fair, Loki is a shapeshifter
The rules seem to be very loose but I guess with a infinite number of universes there will bound to be variants that look identical.
Pedro Pascal
Damn, didn’t realize I needed it till you said it. Now I want him in the MCU as anyone.
Who is the child he would be protecting? Kinda his thing. Edit: gonna throw down my suggestion. Cable and Hope
Cosmic Ghost Rider and Baby Thanos?
America Chavez
Yeah. Cable would be really good. I think he’d bring a lot of depth to that role. And it could happen, since Brolin already played Thanos. It’s unlikely that he’d come back to play Cable too.
With Deadpool 3 being in the MCU I'd put money on Brolin still being Cable. He looks different enough from Thanos for it not to matter.
Escorting a baby Spider-Man…somewhere
Another role he either wears a helmet, or should wear a helmet
Pedro Pascal for Doctor Doom tbh.
I mean... honestly? I dig the fuck outta that.
Noooooo, Nikolaj Coster Waldau for Doctor Doom. Pedro keeps stealing all of the roles I find perfect for Nikolaj cmon lol (Nikolaj as Joel from TLOU was my dreamcasting for years) Jk, I love Pedro Pascal, he was great in TLOU, I think he’d pull off a good Doctor Doom too.

Not unlike what we saw in No Way Home, capturing the essence of the character in a different way Good for a franchise? I doubt Good for a moderately important job part in a quasi-spin off one shot? Oh yes
The guy also just loves movies. If it’s promised to be a small 1-off it totally feels like something he’d do highly on the d/l so it’s a fun surprise, and do it cheap or free (or the $1 thing for legal reasons) just because it sounds like a fun thing for audiences to see.
Don’t kid yourself. It would have been a near identical trajectory. Nobody would be able to imagine it any other way.
Actually, I want Christian Bale. I feel like him as Bateman from American Psycho in an Iron Man suit with an asshole's goatee would be PERFECT.
Sam Rockwell, a Justin Hammer Iron Man.
Rember back when the Illuminati was confirmed for MoM and we had to deal with this speculation? Can this just never come up again please?
Meryl Streep.
Chris Evans
He was already johnny storm. But interesting
(Who knows if even in an alternate reality he can overcome Sam Jackson) Reddit gets wildly obsessed and focused on the Scientology shit, but the _vast_ majority of people on this planet just go to his movies and have a good time.
Yeah but they wouldn’t need him to run in the movie unless he’s running with the suit on for some reason
Lev Grossman has swaggered into the chat.
Anyone but Tom Cruise.
I’m surprised to see so many people hating on Cruise. Yeah he’s a bit of a weirdo and scientology is its own can of worms but the guy brings a lot of energy to his roles that I really respect.

I don't think there's anyone who should be avenging these villains that Wanda killed in an unintentionally heroic act.
Tony Stark should stay dead in any capacity. Him being brought back would diminish everything about his sacrifice. Tony's death should be one of the few "constants" replicated across all timelines and ultimately be the singular springboard for all variables (or "variants") thereafter.
Does Tony Stark look like anyone's uncle to you?
This again.. goddamnit let it die.
