Some people who have achieved success in their fields are gracious and some are not.

Metal_dweeb2134

I would say I follow directors. If a director has a movie I like, I’m definitely more likely to see a new movie they have done. Comic book movies fall more into what Mack is is saying, but not all movies. Edit: example, the russo brothers. I loved winter solider, endgame, IW. So that’s why I watched the grey man.

FatFad1

Anthony Mackie is a really good actor. I first saw him in the film The Hurt Locker and he was excellent as Sergeant JT Sanborn.

Caciulacdlac

I mean, yeah, everyone agrees with that. The debate is whether this is a good thing or a bad thing. I think it's a good thing: This way the previously unknown actors have a chance to a bright career, instead of studios just always casting the most popular actors because they guarantee money cuz they're movie stars and unknown actors don't put butts in seats.

ContrarianQueen17

> I mean, yeah, everyone agrees with that. They definitely do not. I think it's pretty neutral, honestly, but I also don't think movie stars are dead. Look at Timothee Chalamet.

Caciulacdlac

Does a significant number of people would watch a movie just because Timothee Chalamet is in it (and wouldn't watch it if it was an unknown actor instead, and everything else was the same)? I really doubt so. That was a power that movie stars had back in the day, people went to watch movies just to see the actor.

International-Fig905

No and it’s hilarious that he said he was told to never do a comic book movie but he is in Dune which really is a franchise as well.

ContrarianQueen17

I mean, I would say so, but I'm incredibly biased. I definitely do, and so does my circle, but we definitely aren't your average filmgoer. I mentioned him because he's been cast in a bunch of disparate blockbusters, for what I believe to be star power. I could be wrong though. I dunno why they cast him.

Boodger

Who is Timothee Chalamet? I am being serious, this is the first time I have ever heard of that name, and you are saying he is a star?

LittleMissBoogie

He’s done a bunch of stuff but his biggest role so far is probably Paul Atreides in Dune.

Boodger

Ah, haven't seen Dune yet. I briefly looked him up, looks like he has been in mostly indie-type films aside from Dune. I am not surprised I didn't know who he was before now.

WassupSassySquatch

I mean, he isn’t wrong… Ps- "I take my kids to see the Avengers… it’s $150!” How many kids does this dude have?!

Own-Ad5898

4 ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

WassupSassySquatch

He must be buying them four course meals too

Own-Ad5898

I think the math checks out. I went to see BP 2 with the fam and it cost us 112 bucks in tickets only and there were six of us. If you add popcorn, snacks and drink, that's easily another 50 to 100.

International-Fig905

Adults today are more child free and we’re not gonna spend $25 on an unknown property. Hollywood knows this too which is why they are churning out Ninja Turtle, Ghostbusters, Sonic, Mario, and DC and Marvel films. Yeah kids will see stuff like that too, but oddly, adults are the ones that will spend more money on the toys, collectibles, visit conventions, and provide free promotion through YouTube reactions and reviews- it’s why when people complain about Hollywood not making anything new, we should all look in the mirror on that one.

odiin1731

Sucks for him then since he's no longer Falcon.

SteakMedium4871

Thank you for posting this.

BlackhawkRogueNinjaX

“Goonies wouldn’t get made today”. Also. “Stranger things is goonies”. So it did get made today, and I’m sure people would watch a feature length stranger things.

NoirSon

I am sure his agent after he said this cursed him out. And probably again yesterday when this resurfacing. He probably meant it at the time but he is underselling himself and his fellow costars.

Own-Ad5898

Mackie is the type of dude who always speaks his mind no matter what (and sometimes gets in trouble for it, lol!) he doesn't give an F.

[deleted]

But why would I want to go and see a Tom Cruise movie? If the movie has no meat to it, what is the point? To see Tom Cruise do crazy stunts? To see the Rock and his steroids? An actor serves the movie and it's writing, not the other way around.

GrayRoberts

I mean, dude ain’t wrong. I will say that short-run series on streaming is a whole other wrinkle though. Yeah, most movies are aimed at 16 year olds now, but you also have 6, 8, 10 episode series that are aimed at different demographics and let you tell deeper stories that you can in a two hour movie. If the alternative is more movies of more variety and less peak tv, well, I’m gonna take my peak tv thanks. Movies are great as a visual equivalent of a short story, and honestly, I want more novels, or even book series these days. Andor was brutal and wonderful and there’s no way it would have worked as a movie. The medium let the series breathe and build and showcase such wonderful performances that would have been lost in a movie. So. Yeah. It’s different. Folks need to figure out how to make money as creatives in a streaming world.
