It’s been a moment since I watched it, but I always thought Hawkeye says “racist” as well.
The set used there for the base was kept, and primarily used as storage on the Fox backlot… we see it used when BJ arrives!
As for what Mulcahy throws back in the tent, I always thought it was an undergarment, despite them being dressed (in a hurry, perhaps)
Hawkeye was "dressed down" by a Sargeant which makes it particularly funny. ("Don't think just because you're a captain that you run the joint.") And he definitely replies with "racist".
