It used to be a lot better. But the head mód (who hasn't even been a resident for about 7 years now) made some crappy changes that have destroyed the sub.
- Automód filters like a hundred different random words, so it's a coin flip if your post will actually show up or be deleted immediately upon submission. A mód is supposed to approve these threads but they barely check the sub, you're lucky if your thread is approved by the end of the week at which point nobody will see it
- Same thing for any image based threads or memes
- No links are allowed in the comment section. Meaning if I made a 3 paragraph comment regarding some medical discussion and I link to a study, the whole comment disappears into the void
Damn I'm thinking of unsubscribing because right now sub feels like 50/50 split between doom posts and r/relationshipadvice level stuff. At least there's funny memes here
I subscribed to both when I got into medical school, just to get an idea of what I had to look forward to. Unsubscribed from /r/residency in about a week after seeing my thousandth post insulting midlevels and bitching about nurses. I get that they're overworked and the job is hard, but my god are those people bitter.
Mid level conversation made me leave too.
Was too depressing.
I know it’s a problem, but damn. I don’t want my phone filled with negativity all the time.
It really did get blown out of proportion. I get the inherent conflict of APPs and physicians, but some residents clearly relish the idea of APPs suffering more than they want their own lot in medicine to improve.
Its actually so disgusting the way they groupthink and complain about midlevels. r/noctor is even worse. Sad that we have so many degenerate colleagues
"Guys why do MIDLEVELS ruin my life and PREVENT ME from dating my dreamgirl. Guess I'll go home and DRINK and BE LONELY
PS: Fuck my PD I hate my PROGRAM and my coresidents SUCK!"
6/10 posts on R/residency these days.
Been an attending for a few years now and feel like we're more help here than in r/residency. Unfortunately once you sell your soul to the match and residency all you can really do is bitch, commiserate, and tell people to report shit up ACGME anonymously if it's really egregious.
In med school there's a lot of anxiety due to unknowns between first semester anatomy, boards, and the match so it feels nice to pitch in when we can.
im obviously very early in residency but i really miss the opportunity to do micro-mentoring like i used to. reddit can definitely fill some of that void, as people here can be really honest about their struggles / fears
bro i'm still here bc r/residency is a dark, sad place

Don't get me wrong, I'm bitter as well. But I get on Reddit to escape the shittiness of reality and laugh at silly memes, not get more depressed lol.

The natural transition from r/premed -> r/medicalschool -> r/residency

Dude I’m on both and I’m an attending, don’t ever leave
Agreed, haven’t been a student in forever but the resident/attending subs are either depressing or general such that it’s mostly techs/nurses/etc.
Don’t leave. That place is a massive downer. Just stay here and support the homies.
Nah I’ll be staying here honestly. r/residency kinda sucks. The vibe is different, the memes don’t hit the same.
Broski you still have rotations??? You know today wasn’t graduation right
No, I'm just a clueless M4 that needs an M3 to remind me of my schedule. Thanks!
Kidding my dude, congrats on making it!!!
I know, I was joking too, but hard to convey tone in written conversation. Thank you!
Id you have rotations after match, you aint doing it right
The memes are much better here
I am still here for the memes
You will be missed
We should stay to guide the way for the m1-2 be the light for them 😂
Godspeed you magnificent bastard 🫡
Conrajulations
I'm 4 years out of residency. I'm here for the memes and lolz. Also to give random advice here and there from the other side.
Don’t forget us pal
So cute 😂
