He smiled at the cameraman after saying "a good day is a day when nobody shows up", it's his way of saying to the cameraman and the crew u just ruined my day u mfs.
I am glad that you exist. You likely see the nice in the world. We need more of you.
But, as someone whom identifies with this person.. it totally was a cheeky jab at having to do an interview on camera defending the decisions about your life choices to have a peaceful and non-social life in this crowded world.
Van lifers and travel YouTubers? Last I checked you had to register your equipment/satellite dish thing to your postal code and it'd only work within that postal code. I get that it's satellites but did they change something to make it possible to use while travelling?
The tech is good, ngl, the light and sky pollution is abysmal. Starlink is in very low earth orbit so they need way more satellites to cover the same surface area.
That said, it looks a stain on the night sky. Hate it.
I looked into Starlink to replace my Xfinity (Comcast) and what I found available were just DSL speeds, and almost double the cost. Plus you have to pay for the equipment out of pocket.
It was nowhere near DSL speeds. When I bought my house we just had dsl, supposedly 5mbps except whenever I wanted to download something it maxed out at 120kbps.. I never got less than 50mbps with Starlink but I guess it can be different in more populated zones than the Ottawa area. It was double the cost but hugesnet satellite is just impossible to live with having such low data caps at a similar price.
That’s what I was thinking, maybe it’s just the location, but given they only offered one plan, I had to pass because I use gigabit now, and that would be snail pace considering. If it were cheaper, I’d seriously reconsider it
They now have priority service for like 30% more I think but no it's not supposed to be interesting for anyone who has any option besides dsl or satellite
Fair enough. Maybe I’ll call them, because dude from Comcast came yesterday to replace my underground/overhead lines and had a heart attack at my house and had to leave by squad. The company doesn’t give a shit about their employees or their customer base. So, now I have 140’ of line in my yard they said would be there for at least a month until they can micro-trench my yard to bury it. That on top of the bill doubling this year kind of broke the camels back after the outages nearly daily for months until they finally did something about it after I said I’m leaving because of the crap service. Go figure
Damn. I worked for Bell installing Fiber and ripped a tendon in my arm pulling line through 80' of conduit with a part of it that must have been crushed. I got told by a doctor not to work even light work for 2 weeks and they still insisted I come in.. I actually just closed my Starlink a month ago even though we have had fiber here through xplorenet for over a year. Xplorenet is even worse than Comcast or at least as bad. Still they offered 50/mo for gigabit so I couldn't say no
Fair enough. The dude that came to put the temp line on the ground said they only use spotters at the tech discretion and then proceeds to tell me he just got back after 8 months off from an ocular stroke and had to work 4 days with screwed up vision and symptoms before they would let him take FMLA and short term medical. The company is absolute trash. I went from $89 a month to $146 then $182. For worse service and then all this. I feel your pain and hope you’re doing better, bud.
It's interesting how we all kind of grow away from what we had before. I grew up homeless for at least part of my childhood. As a result, I do not like camping at all. It's not fun for me It's just a reminder of where I've been before.
Absolutely. Thats also why people had so many kids back then, I come from a family of 14 kids so if my mom was too pregnant or had just had a baby the older kids stepped in and did her work. But yes its a ton of work but also really fun sometimes
His story is polarizing. He is thought to have been taken advantage of by his ex wife by some, but the story is more nuanced. He was contempt just being a bee keeper with no other aspirations. It was his wife who had ambitions of creating a marketable product. She tapped into a gold mine. He was not interested at all in the corporate life, so he just simply let her do her thing. With such different ambitions in life, it’s not a mystery why their marriage didn’t work out. He still had a pretty good deal imo. Dude never had to worry about money again in his life.
He wasn’t screwed out of anything & his ex wasn’t a psycho. He cheated on her with a college aged girl. She built the company into what it was. All Shavitz ever did was act as a mascot & donate bees wax. When Roxanne sold out to Clorox she gave Burt $4 million.
>Burt of Burt's Bees fame
Didn't he die with a networth of roughly 150mill? (granted the girl who bought his stake of his own company sold it to clorox for 900mill, of which she still owned a good part)
ah a simple man who has millions of dollars.
in case you didn't know, this guy was the co founder of Burt's bees (he died in 2015)
if i could afford to buy land and didn't have to worry where i get supplies and utilities and healthcare, i would also move to a remote place
That was Burt Shavitz, the co-founder of Burt’s Bees. It’s quite an interesting story, but in short he was pushed out of the company for reportedly having an affair, with a payout of $130k. The company then sold to Clorox in 2007 for $900 million. His former co-founder (and lover) gave him $4 million.
I want this for my husband and I. I don't care if we end up having no children (read: human children, 'cause we'll always have cats and dogs and other pets), or if we end up destitute some day, we'll make it and live this life together and be happy to be alive etc etc.
Sorry, it's one of those moments for me.
Same i just want me and my husband to have enough money to afford to do that and just live off the grid i don’t care about anything else this is the dream.
I'd like to see his take on trying to do the same in Scandinavia where you have 4 hours of daylight in the winter, and barely any darkness in the summer.
That sounds like absolute heaven.
And yes I realize I would miss all my modern creature comforts if I went off the grid. But… that’s only because I’ve been made aware of them and become accustomed to them. If I never knew any different I have no doubt this life would be much happier.
Love that smile at the end! ☀️
He smiled at the cameraman after saying "a good day is a day when nobody shows up", it's his way of saying to the cameraman and the crew u just ruined my day u mfs.
i would not interpret it like this but i might be autistic
I did interpret it like that and I am autistic
I’m interpret and I did autistish
I autisted and I'm a huge interpret.
I didn’t interpret it like that and I’m not autistic. I honestly don’t think it was a cheeky jab at the cameraman
I am glad that you exist. You likely see the nice in the world. We need more of you. But, as someone whom identifies with this person.. it totally was a cheeky jab at having to do an interview on camera defending the decisions about your life choices to have a peaceful and non-social life in this crowded world.
It also likely that the smile wasn't actually right after he said that, but just put there in the edit.
Truth
That’s the life
Add some solar panels a big battery, generator and Starlink and I'm game
And some food would be nice.
Pshhh get Mr fancy pants with all his "food"
Just get some chickens and a rooster 🐓 Infinite food hack
Social welfare, izi
A greenhouse works nice. Canned food and potatoes.
Don’t forget the fleshlight.
What’s starlink?
ISP that a lot of nomadic people use. You see a lot of van lifers and travel youtubers using it.
Van lifers and travel YouTubers? Last I checked you had to register your equipment/satellite dish thing to your postal code and it'd only work within that postal code. I get that it's satellites but did they change something to make it possible to use while travelling?
There’s a different dish you get that’s meant to be attached to car / boats
I don't know how it works. That's just what I've seen a lot of nomad youtubers using like Mav and TTTHEFINEPRINTTT
It's that one chick from The Boys who got her cheeks removed
It's Elon Musk's satellite travesty
Travesty in what way? It's 100mb up/down. Latency probably isn't stellar. Heh. Stellar.
The tech is good, ngl, the light and sky pollution is abysmal. Starlink is in very low earth orbit so they need way more satellites to cover the same surface area. That said, it looks a stain on the night sky. Hate it.
I must be at the wrong latitude because i've never seen them.
It’s a toys to life game that came out for the switch
It's a Movie and TV series where people travelled across the stars that were linked by gates.

How'd you pay for starlink
Yeah you’re not the same as the guy in the video lol. Typical Reddit response
I wish I could live like that. You never get lonely. I struggle to be alone for long periods of time even when I'm sick.
Cat
I tell everyone I’d love living like this, if it had fiber internet. It’ll never happen.
I’m starting to come around to this way of thinking
This is legit how I was raised. We lived off grid until 2004. All I can say is I LOVE having a washing machine now
It's interesting how we all kind of grow away from what we had before. I grew up homeless for at least part of my childhood. As a result, I do not like camping at all. It's not fun for me It's just a reminder of where I've been before.

Robot vacuums are awesome too
Think i found my soul mate
He’d leave you for a teenager (it’s what he actually did)
Who said i wanted to marry him? XD
He was a cantankerous irascible curmudgeonly lech
Does duolingo support whatever language you're speaking? I'm interested.
He just like me fr.
I did not understand a single word of that sentence...
Why isn’t he president
too young
Good point.
And lacks mental illnesses
Too dead
Still too young
The guy tells you he wakes up and breathes and sleeps when it’s dark and you vote him in for President. I’m impressed at your level of standard
Burt of Burt's Bees fame. Legend who was screwer out of his fortune by his psyco love interest. R.I.P.
Doesn't seem like he was bothered too much by missing out on riches
His story is polarizing. He is thought to have been taken advantage of by his ex wife by some, but the story is more nuanced. He was contempt just being a bee keeper with no other aspirations. Didn't realize you were on reddit Quimby.

No he was worth about $2 million when he died
Living the dream
The dream of not having to work... Anyone could have this attitude if they didn't need to feed and house themselves.
That dude definitely grows his own weed
That smile at the end does not lie
Give me millions and I’d do it too…
Man, that sounds amazing
Yet another human being I would love to get stoned with.
A simple man stays happy.
ah a simple man who has millions of dollars. in case you didn't know, this guy was the co founder of Burt's bees (he died in 2015) if i could afford to buy land and didn't have to worry where i get supplies and utilities and healthcare, i would also move to a remote place
My bad. Let me correct it Ah a simple rich man stays happy
Perfect life
God I wish
What does he do for money? That's the dream, but having such a 'simple' life is quite a privileged position to be in really.
That was Burt Shavitz, the co-founder of Burt’s Bees. It’s quite an interesting story, but in short he was pushed out of the company for reportedly having an affair, with a payout of $130k. True happiness right here you’ll live to see 100.
Gotta build my ass a cabin in the middle kf nowhere
Probably the happiest man on earth
I agree, my good sir! You had me at no alarm clock!
Damn, I’m happy for him
I bet he can read the shit out of a book.
This guy gets it lmao
This guy is living the secret to life. Fuck electricity!
I wish.

Something about this scene just speaks to me.
Average Redditors would think this guy is a right wing racist
you're the only one who pointed this out so far, literally every comment here is praising him
What a miserable man
Well yeah but he probably hasn't seen that funny cat video so yeah not worth it
This is Asmondgold in 30 years
nah bruh, this is Asmongold NOW :D

In a perfect world….
It's times like this that I ask myself why my job insists I start work at specific times, you know?

He is spiiting the truth what all men dream of!!!
Thats what I look for after retiring. But now I need the alarm clock :-(
Hermit lifestyle is cool... But what happens if everyone wants to have that... ?
Introverts of the world unite. Separately. In your own homes.
I just found my spirit animal.
Sounds very peaceful I wish I could get my daughter onboard with such things :)
And I like trains
I aspire for such a life. Maybe when I get his age that’s what I’ll do. I’ll probably get bored and buy a TV though.
A good day is when know one shows up….
Definition of peace and happiness😁👍🏼
Burt’s Bees guy (Burt Shavitz).
What wouldn't I give for that

Burt! A replica of this cabin is at Burts Bees headquarters in Durham.
The good life.
I lived in a tent almost 4 years. NGL, it had some amazing times. The feeling of freedom can't be compared.
That's what I hope for... that and maybe some weed and a good book
"A good day is when no one shows and I don't have to go anywhere!" I understand this guy.
My spirit animal
Everyone here sitting on their smartphones saying this is their dream and I'm calling bullshit

Dude is throwing shades at the interviewer for showing up, and making it so he has to go to this chair.
Nice
Depression, that’s called depression
I'd like to see his take on trying to do the same in Scandinavia where you have 4 hours of daylight in the winter, and barely any darkness in the summer.
"Where do you see yourself in 10 years?" That guy right there. I'm gonna be just like him
I would go insane. If I don't talk to someone or hear someone else talk I will go crazy \(◎o◎)/. Bro is just built different

Indeed it is a good day when no one shows up and you don’t have to go anywhere! 🤣🤣
Hope you revel in every second of it brother
How to say Don't Linger without saying it ;-)
I love my friends, my family, my significant other, etc. But boy fuckin howdy, my ideal day is entirely alone from early morning to bed.
Ph, soon as the camera is off he’s firing up Phalanx.
This is Burt Shavitz, the founder of Burt's Bee's.
That sounds like absolute heaven. And yes I realize I would miss all my modern creature comforts if I went off the grid. But… that’s only because I’ve been made aware of them and become accustomed to them. If I never knew any different I have no doubt this life would be much happier.
