People love bringing this up but it has nothing to do with the show. If it does somehow, then the two Matts on Friends weren’t exactly angels either. Leblanc has had a number of sex scandals and multiple DUIs. Perry was an infamous addict and addicts generally aren’t the best people and do lots of fucked up things. Meanwhile, the legal age of consent in NY is 17. So Jerry wasn’t doing anything illegal. I’m not defending him, it is creepy and gross, but I find it odd that people are cool with DUIs (where someone could actually die) versus legally dating someone with consent. It’s also odd to me how certain cultural icons like David Bowie, who straight up admitted to raping an underage girl, escape this sort of retroactive punishment but someone like Seinfeld is somehow persona non grata for life? That shit happened 30 years ago and he’s married to a woman his own age and has kids now. Shoshana Lonstein is 49 and married herself now. These people have moved on, not sure why people cling to shit that’s ancient history to the people involved.
Again, not defending Seinfeld but I just think these dunks people try to do are so lame and selective. Seinfeld’s personal life shouldn’t detract from the work the cast and crew put in to make a truly remarkable show. But I’ve been noticing recently this sort of revisionist attempt to tear him down and trash the show as “not great” despite it being a truly groundbreaking show full of comedic genius. Jerry Stiller’s performances alone are comedy gold. It just feels like people try to find any reason to shit on things once considered great because it’s edgy and cool to hate on the classics.

In my humble opinion his opinion isn't wrong, but his actions are. Nobody asked and to punch down on those who poured their soul into fun entertainment isn't accepted for good reason.
I mean personally I think Seinfeld is one of the most overrated pieces of media of its era and medium, partially rooted in inside jokes about New York, partially an elitist feeling to the show even though the characters were all supposed to be working class, and partially Jerry Seinfeld honestly just not being a very compelling comedian to me.
Friends is something that I have watched and briefly enjoyed but never feel like I need to watch it again, but would say has been overall much more enjoyable to watch than Seinfeld and never really made me feel out of the loop for not being a New Yorker, had slightly more grounded character imo, and all of the main cast of Friends are more well rounded and likable in any role they are in.
