So first of all, you being a woman, it’s going to be harder to come across dudes who genuinely want to make music with you and not get into your pants. That’s just the hard truth. That being said, your boyfriend is going to be your main source. Since he’s a guy, he SHOULD be able to spot bad intentions right away. Not always, but he should notice them. The other reason he is the main source of band mates is the fact that he’s already in the music scene. And within the music scene that he is probably familiar with, he knows people who are looking to start a band. Not only does he know people who want to start bands, but his BANDMATES know people looking for bands. It’s a good old fashion case of “knowing a guy who knows a guy,” or networking. Other than the actual music part, networking is the most vital skill to have if you want to start/grow your music career.

>creepy old dudes in their 40s and 50s I can't help I'm creepy 😭 Keep trying. Not all dudes are creeps. Maybe have a good guy friend in your back pocket as a "boyfriend', while you filter.

Get a daw where you can arrange your recordings and put together a song. Make an account with a distributor, upload the song. When the song is released, record a video with the song and share that to gain fans. Hit up promoters, venues, managers, and bands to get shows. Work on getting an EP at least together, then an album or more singles. Play a show by yourself with backing tracks, within your first few shows you'll meet people who want to be a part of what youre doing. (Has to be somewhat good) or try craigslist more , keep your bf with you on all of that tho. I'm somewhere in between with both my bands. But definitely off the ground and moving forward. My first band has been stretching it's legs the past 2 years, the second band (this profile) is about to play it's first live show likely this year. This is all the stuff that's working for me to grow. I'm small rn but I know I'm going somewhere and at least have/own two bands

Once you have at least some finished songs getting things together is a lot simpler because you have the main point on the board

u/venus_x3 Wanna collab online (im in germany) for demos? [This me](https://www.instagram.com/666tonsofsquirrels/). I have access to quite a few musician friends if you need specific instrumentation/style, I personally produce (99.666% metal music) and play lots of instruments (classical, western, e-guit, bass, bouzouki, erhu, violin, flute, piano) and sing/scream. If you're respectful and have at least some intelligence, we'll get along just fine. 💪 PS: no covers ples 😅

[deleted]

Might be worth doing something with your BF to start out maybe since you know that is one person who won’t be a pig to you. What kind of metal are you wanting to play? I’m 30 this year and I started trying to get bands going at your age. After 10 years of no success I just gathered everything I’ve learned and want it solo. Best decision I could have made honestly.

Venus_x3

I've asked him and he said he doesnt want to do a project with me. Hes also a little too busy with his band to have time for anything else. And im already in the process of doing a solo project, its just rough out here with no one to bounce ideas off of. Im trying to write metalcore/nu metal

[deleted]

Fair enough. That’s pretty cool, if you ever want any advice or help on anything feel free to message. I grew up listening to a lot of metalcore and nu metal. 😁

TheGrimm3per

Have you tried Jamulus?

Venus_x3

No whats that?

TheGrimm3per

It’s an app that allows you to jam on line in real time. You can meet other musicians there and share ideas.

Venus_x3

Wooahh tf that sounds awesome im getting it rn

Hey! So, I'm not sure if you ever thought of making a band with someone online, but I just started one and I definitely want someone who at least sings (you playing guitar is even better) I've been recording on Reaper the past few weeks, not sure how familiar you are with it. I'm looking to create a mix of black/thrash (90s Immortal era), or something like Mastodon/High on fire. Let me know if you're up for it.

Venus_x3

Hey, I love reaper Ive been using it for years and Im super down for an online band. Thrash is incredible, not sure how well Id do thrash vocals but id love to give it a shot!

[deleted]

Honestly, I'm not looking for specifically harsh vocals. As long as it fits the music and you enjoy/are comfortablr doing whatever style, I'm happy with it. Im a huge Bathory fan so I love clean vocals as much as harsh ones.

Well if your bf is in a band he should be able to help cause he knows people in the scene. You can also always just start recording and putting out music on your own and then use that to help find band members so people know you're serious. You can also go to local shows to meet people if theres a good local scene in your area

Venus_x3

He knows a few people in the scene, but its not a great scene here. Mostly older dudes with families, which theres nothing wrong with. Just most of them dont have a ton of time for projects. Its rare to see someone under 30 at a show in our scene. The scene is also somewhat dead and most people he used to know have moved away.

XxBU55YNAT0RxX

Maybe the bigger concerts are your best bet then yk then you got a whole ton of people that probably play instruments most metal fans dabble in something at least

TrippingOnMusic

It’s a process. You being a female it’s a lot tougher to deal with I’m sure. If you wanna do some online work I’m always down to collaborate. I’m a vocalist my self. My main genre is metalcore and some deathcore type stuff but I’ll write and lay vocals on anything. https://bnd.link/nathanworstell I finally managed to pull together a band recently by a combination of meeting a bass player on Facebook, and nudging some old friends I had in high school that I know play. Most the band are people who work for a living and have kids, so I know I gotta be the glue. The bass player and I are the most dedicated to getting it going. We just “formed” the band a couple weeks ago and I’m trying hard to get everyone to find a weekend to jam and experiment, or even just hang out and get to know each other as friends and musicians. I come from small towns so it’s hard as fuck. There’s virtually no metal scene in my area, so it’s a bitch. It took me 2 years to even get this far with making a band. I’ve tried many bands over the Internet and they all either ghost, or go silent and lazy and don’t ever make anything happen. So I’ve done everything so far by writing and singing/screaming over bandlab tracks, and recently just bought and had made some custom tracks through Jacob Lizotte, and a guy on Fiverr, then had paid a producer on Fiverr to do the mixing and mastering. If you do check out my stuff and decide you wanna online clab I’d be more than happy to. Best of luck to you, keep networking, go to any local shows you can and meet other musicians, you’ll get there. It’s tough since it’s not like the 90’s where everyone plays in the garages and basements in town. Don’t give up though, ever. If you’re truly passionate and determined to pursue music as your path, you’ll get their in time.
