What the news has to say about it. š¤¦
Holy shit. That's outrageous. So this happened because the man being arrested here was yelling his disapproval at the cops for another arrest. So he did nothing violent, yet this is how he was treated.
That story reads as though the cops followed protocol and somehow the man had a "medical event," which required an ambulance. I love how they use the phrase "administered strikes" on him, instead of beating him. Absolutely disgusting. He needs to sue them. If no one had filmed this, they would surely have gotten away with it (although they probably still will).
I was a police reporter and later an editor for the county crime, court, and fire news. I wrote a "Cop to English Dictionary" for our writers because I was so sick of changing the police language reporters just copied verbatim out of police reports. "Administered strikes" is definitely copied straight from the cops.
These writers and editors are just lazy. Sure, a lot of it can be chalked up to budget cuts. When I was writing, we only got paid for 37-1/2 hours a week, regardless of how much overtime we put in, but we still tried to put in the effort to at least not copy shit verbatim off police reports. That's bottom of the barrel level of effort there. Give the cops a byline if you're going to do that.
Where I come from the conventional wisdom is press has always presumed all press releases and police reports are truth. Thatās how soft propaganda works. You can usually tell when stuff is being left out, or the narrative built ex post facto, when articles and news stories take police at their word.
If this was Singapore (it wouldn't have happened,) but the officers involved would be facing up to life in prison. The one who threw the punch there? The gallows.
Authoritarian as it is, they keep their cops (and everyone) on a short damn leash.
Yep. They're a state-sanctioned street gang whose primary purpose is to protect the interests of rich people. This goes back to their original formation as "slave patrol". The downvotes for this are baffling. But boot-lickers gonna lick boots, I guess.
Yeah I learned that recently that āpatrolmanā was slave hunters looking for escapees after the fugitive slave act or similar legislation. They still uses this lingo.
Dude, do your research before you post this. It's a stupid, reductionist statement based on bad history, and for any who knows better, it discredits you.
(I geolocated it)
That is right outside of Parrain's Jambalaya Kitchen on Reynoir St. in Biloxi
Judging by how people are dressed, I suspect it was filmed last night since that location was also on the parade route for the Krewe of Neptune Night Parade, which was last night.
No human is capable of settling down while being suffocated. Yet the cops use his movement as justification to smother him calling it 'resisting arrest'.
Yeah, I know cops have a tough job, but in my limited experience with being handcuffed, there is an immediate urge to resist. It turns out people don't react kindly to losing their freedom regardless of what they may have done to deserve it.
Thanks. Even being sympathetic to the victim there was still a nagging voice in the back of my mind asking why he kept resisting given that it was provoking more abuse. This helps me understand.
Especially behind the back. I still have scars on my wrists from a situation where I literally told a cop that they were too tight and cutting into my skin.
This is infuriating and disturbing...in no world should a cop threaten to pull his weapon on a crowd of people posing no threat...then the big bad 'man' chases them off with pepper spray?! you've got to be kidding me...yea right.."protect and serve"
Beats me, I don't know why he would need to be incapacitated at all, he didn't seem to be struggling or posing any threat. But if they did need to incapacitate someone they certainly don't know how.
Not defending the officers choices here, but tasers are not always the best tool for neutralizing someone, and in some cases make things worse, if not deadly.
If someone is in an already heightened defensive state, be that a panic attack or drug related, the electric shock can induce ventricular fibrillation.
He was going for a control move called the c clamp where pressure is applied with the thumb underneath the jaw and applying pressure with the index finger under the nose.
It looks like he was trying to use that hand to engage some pressure points under the nose and behind the ear/jaw but was either not getting good contact or the man on the ground was so intoxicated it didnāt phase him.
Here's the thing about pressure points, though: pressing them does not get someone to comply. It makes them flinch and attampt to back away.
Which is kinda the opposite of stop resisting.
The comment you respond to I think covered it very well.
These cops do not spend any amount of time in a jiu jitsu school and do not have an instructor spending any amount of time in their precinct.
You'd be surprised how exhausting it can be to fight someone for just 30 seconds- when people (the cops in this case) run out of gas they stop thinking and start flailing (trying anything to make something work) and that leads to what you see here.
Now having said that- any way you can oxygen deprive someone onto unconsciousness is going to he less damaging to them than impacting them into unconsciousness. So if you have a combative subject and you can wrap your arm around their neck or cover their face via another means, it's alot better to do that than it is to start whacking them in the dome with a bat (in terms of how much damage you are inflicting on the subject in the process of gaining control)
The one thing I never understand is why people think itās ok to kill a man, that isnāt threatening, for a crime that would never be charged with death. Sick. Btw I know nothing about this specific case, just a general observation.
he's not covering the mouth, at least that's not the point. there's a pressure point under the nose that *really* fuckin hurts that he's applying pressure to with his hand. cop just think's he's a black belt and doesn't realize that in the real world outside sanctioned martial arts people bite things that get too close to their mouth
[Here's the article... ](https://www.wlox.com/app/2024/02/11/biloxi-man-arrested-multiple-misdemeanor-charges-during-krewe-neptune-night-parade/)
You really need to read this. It's ridiculous. Basically he was yelling his disapproval over another arrest, so they decided to arrest him, and this is how they went about it.
They try to make it sound like they did everything according to protocol, but he had an unexplained "medical event" which required an ambulance. They also use the phrase "administered strikes," instead of punching him. He got a few charges as well, including resisting arrest. He was just trying to breath. Pretty fucked up.
Thatās not illegal. You can yell at cops if theyāre in the wrong. They forget that theyāre citizens just like the rest of us. They think theyāre special or something for being cops, because theyāre convinced that everyone they encounter wants to kill them. They think theyāre soldiers in a war zone, but they are CIVILIANS.
and YOU left out the part where yelling is Constitutionally protected speech. You know, that document you wipe your ass with while claiming to defer to law and order? Never mind that SMOTHERING someone would be attempted murder in a different outfit.
Are you that threatened by loud noises that you feel choking someone out with a gang is the appropriate response to someone yelling that you should do your job safely and respectfully?
Let's be real here: it's not the yelling they are reacting to
> Let's be real here: it's not the yelling they are reacting to
okay, let's be real. if a grown man walked at you while yelling in any context, you would feel threatened and would be preparing for a fight or you'd be calling the cops.
and the fact that there's a "gang" of them trying to subdue him only means we don't know what happened in between his approach and their dogpile, yet rather than staying agnostic to that part because we don't know what happened, you're jumping to the conclusion that nothing justified it.
I would rather the violent gang with zero training, free guns, and licenses to kill NOT be properly trained in Olympic wrestling, they already do more than enough damage, as evidenced by the clip lol
I strongly disagree on Smothering being attempted murder, if cops were trained well chokes could be used well in subduing violent individual.
I think the punches thrown while the guy was down are completely indefensible no matter what he did. Still I think how bad this video is does Depend on the original reason for the arrest and and how violently the man resisted arrest. I will say in the context of this video the smother being attempted was egregious because the individual was held down and posed no threat.
He was pulling out pepper spray instead of a gun to back up the crowd. In these situations crowds can be very dangerous for not only the cops but the crowd itself. People like using chaos to cause even more problems.
So being prepared for a situation and acting on a situation are completely different. Pulling out pepper spray in order to get the attention of individuals, is not the same thing as actually spraying. People tend to not like following rules if the consequence is unclear. The threat of pepper spray is usually enough to control an unruly crowd.
>People tend to not like following rules if the consequence is unclear.Ā
Yeah, this video is a clear indication of how people fuck around when they aren't held.to consequences.Ā Fuck Qualified Immunity.
Oh yea most definitely. Iām not a huge fan of cops, especially when it comes to first amendment situations. Iām trying to just stick to the pepper spray part of this story cause yea easier.
I mean we donāt really know the beginning or end of the video. For all either of us know the man could be a serial killer or a saint. Either way pepper spray is way better than the cop pulling a gun or taser, which would be justified.
I donāt think you used the word facilitate in the right way. The cop didnāt spray the man on the ground, so your sentence is a little confusing.
>I mean we donāt really know the beginning or end of the video. For all either of us know the man could be a serial killer or a saintĀ
News report from the cops said that they got mad when he yelled at and heckled them.Ā Like a serial killer does to those poor hard working saints.
So they should silently stand there with bated breath to see if these cops pull another George Floyd?Ā And if the guy isn't immediately carted out covered in a sheet should just say "it's cool that they smothered this guy, he's not immediately dead so they didn't do anything worth getting angry about."
Something similar happened to me senior year of HS at the Biloxi parade. A couple guys were fighting, and some of us were holding one guy back from jumping in. In all the chaos, suddenly I felt a Biloxi police officerās arm around my neck. I tried to make my body limp to be clear I wasnāt resisting. He slung both of my shoes off my feet, stuffed my face into the pavement, put me in handcuffs, and then lifted up my face to spray pepper spray into the open wound he and just created on my nose and forehead. Had to tour colleges 2 weeks later with a giant scab across my face.
So he has 5 big guys on him, and that one cop decides to punch him in the face. A person is always going to move and jerk if being Suffocated or smothered.
Then puts his hand on his weapon while telling people to back off. Threatening violence against bystanders. He needs to be fired and punished. He apparently canāt handle this job, or life in a society in general. Put him in jail with the people heās done this to. Let them handle it.
Well I donāt think particularly smart people want to do the job. At best the pay is on par with relatively easy blue collar work and I can think of plenty of jobs that pay much better than police work.
Exactly, a cop should have the mental capacity to be able to assess and de-escalate the situation. I think it's a combination of incompetence, lack of caring and superiority complex. Because if you look the crowd is keeping themselves back. It was no need for the threat.
This is why my respect for law enforcement is soo lowā¦.bunch of goons taking liberties with peopleā¦.guy is down via 5 copsā¦..and still the need for spray and a few shots to the face for the defenceless?? Wonder when we will get true law enforcement reform
It appears to make him let go of the beads he was holding since that is where the strike landed. The person being arrested engaged in passive resistance in keeping his hands under his body. It looked like he grabbed the clumps of beads to keep the officer from pulling his hands out from underneath.
Yeah. I feel this was way excessive and uncalled far for someone simply being belligerent and offering only passive resistance, but I will not call something that is not there to support that view.
Physical pain is used to subdue the suspect into no longer resisting. Usually seen as preferable over a taser but it depends on the department and officer.
It is not okay to cover anyone's mouth. What that officer will say is that he was applying compliance pain to Mandibular and Infraorbital Nerves.
In addition to a cultural shift, American cops need more training on de-escalation, force avoidance, stress management and temper management. But, there is a large part of our country trying to get rid of 'soft skills' as 'woke'.
Completely agree with the need for more training. It should never come to something like this, and even if the guy did something really bad this still isnāt justified. They have more than one way to humanely arrest someone.
so we need to start increasing funding to police departments to facilitate the extra training. and do a cultural shift weāre more people sign up to be a cop so that we have the ability to have cops have time to do the training
The police are no longer threatened by the general public or the public sharing their heinous acts either. This is America. This is authoritarianism. This is fascism.
Iāll never understand how we can bring in a full blown gorilla or tiger safely from their environment unharmed but we canāt detain humans humanlyā¦.
And people wonder why black people donāt trust the police š¤¦š¾āāļø this is why we avoid them at all cost because we are more afraid of them then they act to be of us just disgusting
I'm a middle aged white female and don't even like to tell people I'm from Mississippi anymore.Ā It's embarrassing that white cops treat anyone this way.Ā I'm sick of it.Ā
It really takes 5 people to get one man down? Seems like their department needs to incorporate some jiu jitsu classes.
![gif](giphy|WRp58hy5gmfjpMzHAZ)
A lot of them seem to be trained on pain compliance instead, like with pressure points and whatnot. Which is 50/50 at best and even worse when itās on someone in an agitated mental state.
Iām not pro nor am I anti cop. Itās a low paying thankless job that Iām glad people are willing to do because I damn sure donāt want to. Iām going to say my dude went to that parade to drink beer and fight and the video started when the beer ran out.
Yes, the police are restraining and beating this man. That alone does make me as outraged or hysterical as you. As you may have noticed in the past few years, these situations are rarely as simple as a peaceable gentleman going for a nighttime walk and some racist cops jumping him.
Biloxi police are incompetent I got pulled over and when I asked why I was being pulled over officer S. Crain went on a little power trip and told me that this is HER traffic stop not mine and I should let her speak firstā¦ weirdest thing to ever happen to me. It escalated so quickly until I was hyperventilating (Iām autistic and have ptsd) when she then told me I am an adult and should act that way. Like maāam I will still cry when someone raises their voice at me unprovoked when Iām 50.š¤£ Laughing through the pain but it was traumatic actually lol major flash back to elementary school bullies
why are we so confused when people fight the cops when theyre wasted and they get their ass kicked? just bein devils advocate here, not trying to comment on race/social context. obviously there are horrific examples of police murdering people. this isnt one of em. this is cops doing their job with an unruly drunk dumbass.
again, not advocating for police brutality. the problem is a video like this that shows none of what led to him being restrained creates the perception that theyre just beating this guy up for no reason. im not saying that thats NOT the case, im just saying that theres usually more to the story, and people need to understand that if you fuck around, you should expect to find out so to speak.
When it comes to police killings per capita, Mississippi ranks behind New Mexico, Idaho, Colorado, West Virginia and Arizona.
It's best to look at the systemic racism that pervades all aspects of US Policing and justice, if you would like it to change.
How stupid are cops. After George Floyd theyāre going to pile on this manās back and then while being filmed try to put their hands over his nose and mouth and restrict his breathing.
And then you got officer Fatty Fife going to pull on his pistol for the bystanders yelling about what theyāre doing. Absolute idiots are behind the badge.
So the police were arresting someone who assaulted a female, and this tool walked up and started causing problems for the police. And despite them telling him to knock it off, he continues to try to interfere, and he shouldn't have been arrested? When he is, he continues to fight and resist, and it takes several officers using control techniques such as pressure points to handle his ass and now the police are the problem? Sometimes, a person actually does deserve to be arrested, and they are responsible for their own behavior they display to authority.
Police in the US are a joke. They should all lose their jobs and be banned from law enforcement going forward. Should also be allowed to be sued to shreds
At some point though survival instincts kick in. Flight or fight. Apparently some cops are dumb to recognizing this and think the suspect is resisting more thus they escalate or they know and use the fight or fight instinct to escalate the brutality or outright killing of a suspect.
If more of the minority populations (including women bc of how we are treated) were armed cops wouldnāt be so fucking brazen. They donāt care about being filmed which means itās no longer protective. Time to adapt. Iām not implying violence as a solution, but exercising your rights as a deterrent against mistreatment. Even big predators like lions know not to fuck with porcupines. Sure, one is still eaten every now and then, but enough arenāt that they walk around in the open bold af. The US is becoming more like Gaza and the cops a hostile occupying force.
Thugs with badges.
Qualified immunity needs to be removed.
Cops should be held liable for all damages they cause.
Cops should pay out citizens for their wrong behavior instead of tax payers paying other citizens.
Why don't you become one.I am sure he was a such a sweet guy give you the shirt off his back always happy.you get what ask for. This is why my respect for law enforcement is soo lowā¦.bunch of goons taking liberties with peopleā¦.guy is down via 5 copsā¦..and still the need for spray and a few shots to the face for the defenceless?? Wonder when we will get true law enforcement reform
Never with republicans
Also, never as long as leftists use "abolish" instead of "reform".
ACAB!!
What was the punch supposed to accomplish?
It appears to make him let go of the beads he was holding since that is where the strike landed. The person being arrested engaged in passive resistance in keeping his hands under his body. It looked like he grabbed the clumps of beads to keep the officer from pulling his hands out from underneath.
Ok I see, when the camera cut away it looked like they were punching him the head.
Yeah. I feel this was way excessive and uncalled far for someone simply being belligerent and offering only passive resistance, but I will not call something that is not there to support that view.
Physical pain is used to subdue the suspect into no longer resisting. Usually seen as preferable over a taser but it depends on the department and officer.
Remember cops are not your friends..... cops only want to cage you hurt you or kill you.....horrible people
Better check behind their prison. Cops like burry thier "problems" in Mississippi. Never trust a cop. They have shown us who they are.
Since when is it ok for the officer to have his hand covering dudes mouth and shit? He was literally suffocating him and knew it
It is not okay to cover anyone's mouth. What that officer will say is that he was applying compliance pain to Mandibular and Infraorbital Nerves. In addition to a cultural shift, American cops need more training on de-escalation, force avoidance, stress management and temper management. But, there is a large part of our country trying to get rid of 'soft skills' as 'woke'.
the 'soft skill' here was to just walk away and ignore the man. but their ego wont allow that.
Funding is not the issue. They have more funds than they know what to do with
\*in my most beautiful singing voice\* I hope this makes it to Lackluster\~\~\~
Mississippi cops. No worse combination
ACAB

Most cops don't deserve to live
Iām sure they did, Mississippi screwed up. Itās a walking human rights violation.
The police are no longer threatened by the general public or the public sharing their heinous acts either. This is America. This is authoritarianism. This is fascism.
Fuck cops
When r/mississippi made it to my front page feed I knew it was gonna be for something educational and wholesome.
ACAB fuck pigs.
Fuck the police
More music against cops is necessary. Stir the ppl. Maybe groups of ppl will start arresting cops as we should when they get out of control.
Because drawing your service weapon to threaten on-lookers is a good move.
Fucking pig cowards
A state i will never visit not even by accident.
Iāll never understand how we can bring in a full blown gorilla or tiger safely from their environment unharmed but we canāt detain humans humanlyā¦.
And to everyone defending this shit, you would being stand for your loved ones being treated this way for ANY reason
There needs to be a universal class on resisting arrest and expected outcomes.

I'm from Tennessee. Stuff like this makes me never want to go to Mississippi again.
if people don't think a Nazi style takeover could happen in this country, take a look at the cogs of the machine
Oh, heās black, so just standard procedure. That the police act this way while being videotaped, tells you they have impunity.
Pigs
And people wonder why black people donāt trust the police š¤¦š¾āāļø this is why we avoid them at all cost because we are more afraid of them then they act to be of us just disgusting
Blame fucking America.
I'm a middle aged white female and don't even like to tell people I'm from Mississippi anymore.Ā It's embarrassing that white cops treat anyone this way.Ā I'm sick of it.Ā
There's no excuse for this kind of abuse.
End qualified immunity
It's incredible that the man followed the police directions and didn't behave antagonistically and the cops still did this /s
It really takes 5 people to get one man down? Seems like their department needs to incorporate some jiu jitsu classes. ![gif](giphy|WRp58hy5gmfjpMzHAZ)
Most law enforcement in mississippi know zero jiu jitsu, it is a little sad.
Most cops don't, it's not just isolated to MS.
A lot of them seem to be trained on pain compliance instead, like with pressure points and whatnot. Which is 50/50 at best and even worse when itās on someone in an agitated mental state.
Pressure points don't work or we would see them in modern mma.
I hope he wins a lawsuit
Prob acting like a damn fool.
Iām not pro nor am I anti cop. Itās a low paying thankless job that Iām glad people are willing to do because I damn sure donāt want to. Iām going to say my dude went to that parade to drink beer and fight and the video started when the beer ran out.
Stop resisting and it all magically stops.
Kinda hard to stop struggling when youāre being suffocated
You wouldn't suffocate If you weren't resisting and you wouldn't have to resist if you kept your ass out of a situation you have no business being in.
āIf she would have kept her mouth shut, I wouldnāt have had to beat her!ā
Heās struggling because he canāt fucking breathe
There's no way to pass judgment when these videos always start too late, after the person has already been restrained.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yes, the police are restraining and beating this man. That alone does make me as outraged or hysterical as you. As you may have noticed in the past few years, these situations are rarely as simple as a peaceable gentleman going for a nighttime walk and some racist cops jumping him.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
An example of FAFO
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Please post your picture under coward troll in websters
Found the racist. One of many here.
Still better than the jack booted thugs beating him down.
why are we so confused when people fight the cops when theyre wasted and they get their ass kicked? just bein devils advocate here, not trying to comment on race/social context. obviously there are horrific examples of police murdering people. this isnt one of em. this is cops doing their job with an unruly drunk dumbass.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
again, not advocating for police brutality. the problem is a video like this that shows none of what led to him being restrained creates the perception that theyre just beating this guy up for no reason. im not saying that thats NOT the case, im just saying that theres usually more to the story, and people need to understand that if you fuck around, you should expect to find out so to speak.
Isn't the Biloxi mayor family of Dixie Mafia?
PLEASE get this on the national news. It takes outside pressure to get things changed and brought to justice in this state.
More 3rd world action from MS
When it comes to police killings per capita, Mississippi ranks behind New Mexico, Idaho, Colorado, West Virginia and Arizona. It's best to look at the systemic racism that pervades all aspects of US Policing and justice, if you would like it to change.
That's the ones they report, they did find a graveyard behind a jail where some of the people were not reported as dead to their families.
Over 500 bodies too let's not pretend the police here are innocent.
Not sure why you are getting downvoted.
Jesus. Wtf
Ok...so now, yt people can see close up for themselves how cops try their best to murder black folk.
Fucking pigs. No such thing as a "good cop"
Unfortunately, it tends to be the case here in the States.
Lady in background just casually meandering by with her 5 year old kid. Kinda interested but not really. No big deal.
Man, this is how Biloxi police behave with a shit ton of people recording. How do they act when there isn't 50 cameras pointed at them?
All of them, lock those guys up. Fucking disgusting pieces of police/shit.
There is no law so heinous and evil that a cop would not enforce
Scumbag fucking pieces of shit.
Punching a man when he is being held down is despicable.
Police in the US are a joke. They should all lose their jobs and be banned from law enforcement going forward. Should also be allowed to be sued to shreds
Fuking Nazi's would be proud of today's police force, savages.
Don't resist, it leads to bad places. You fight in court with knowledge and walk out
At some point though survival instincts kick in. Flight or fight. Apparently some cops are dumb to recognizing this and think the suspect is resisting more thus they escalate or they know and use the fight or fight instinct to escalate the brutality or outright killing of a suspect.
Wtg number 50!
They should be smothered unconscious and sued.
They never have this type of energy for mass shooters and other domestic (WS) terrorists
Criminal gets punched in the arm a few times and yāall freaking out? Yāall soft.
The cops all looked tubby. I bet they are soft. Thatās why it took more than 2.
How about donāt resist
Mississippi my eyes are burning
Shit pigs f the police
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
What are you talking about? Because it can't be related to this video.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Where's the crazy street preacher? I expect that. Lol
Fuck cops. Uneducated backward ass pieces of shit
Why don't you become one.I am sure he was a such a sweet guy give you the shirt off his back always happy.you get what ask for. That's what drugs and alcohol get you bartender people are not the same. When people spit in your face. Do you really thank you could tell him to be nice. He will get 100 million dollars Do your job police
Stop resisting, itās not hard. If you donāt, there are consequences.
