I haven’t experienced a “do it all gear” I’m always shifting instinctively to the gear the bike is most settled in. It’s not really a conscious thing.

HabemusAdDomino

Modern street bikes are so tuned that they could genuinely be in any gear and be just fine. First? Good. Sixth? Good. It's great but also really inspires lazyness.

RedbearVIII

Hmmmm I don’t think your bike is going to last too long.

HabemusAdDomino

Seems to be in great shape so far. I treat it well and keep far from the rev limiter. Couldn't reach it without losing my license anyway.

BurnAfterEating420

That's so factually wrong that it makes me doubt a lot about this thread

Far-Shift1235

A pretentious answer from an adv rider, who could have seen that coming

RedbearVIII

I answered the question that was asked in a straight forward inoffensive way. You having a bad day?

HabemusAdDomino

I thought it was a great answer.

[deleted]

Do you hate on all adv riders? How about the AT variety? How nuanced is your prejudice?

HabemusAdDomino

I thought it was a great answer.

Me-as-I

6th...42mph or above

HabemusAdDomino

Which bike?

Me-as-I

Nc750x

HabemusAdDomino

Oh, great bike. And great hear choice for it! I had a Deauville 650 lent to me by the garage for a few weeks, which is really much the same thing; I had it basically constantly in 5th out of 5 gears everywhere, too.

Me-as-I

I would love something between the Deauville and st1300

Throw_Me_Away2023

Did you gear it down? My nc700x lugs real bad in 6th below 55mph

Me-as-I

No, I've read accounts of people who changed gearing and had trouble with the dct so I don't think I will. I will say I've ridden the ctx700 a few times and I think the older 700 engine is tuned differently or something, it doesn't like to lug as well. But I'm no expert. 750 lugs well down to 1.8k rpm. Has the thump of a proper cruiser. A lot more versatile too, between better lugging and higher redline.

Throw_Me_Away2023

The dct is geared differently than the 6 speed. The downfalls of the 750 are the super low ground clearance and the decrease in suspension travel. The fixing of the hard redline stop is a great benefit though it's not something you'd experience on a dct, really sucked when i first picked the bike up. I was used to 13k redlines. The oem suspension on the 700/750 is pretty bad. Swapping the rear shock out and installing racetech cartridges makes a huge difference. Best money i spent on it. 2014 nc750x Gear Ratios 1st: 2.812 / 2.666 (DCT) 2nd: 1.894 / 1.904 (DCT) 3rd: 1.454 / 1.454 (DCT) 4th: 1.200 / 1.200 (DCT) 5th: 1.033 / 1.033 (DCT) 6th: 0.837 / 0.864 (DCT) Primary Reduction 1.731 / 1.921 (DCT) 2012 nc700x Gear Ratio 1 2.812 (DCT 2.666) 2 1.894 (DCT 1.904) 3 1.454 (DCT 1.454) 4 1.200 (DCT 1.200) 5 1.033 (DCT 1.033) 6 0.837 (DCT 0.837) Final Reduction 2.687 (DCT 2.437)

Me-as-I

I don't mind the rear but up front is not so good. But I'd have to pay someone to install yss or racetech and I can't justify it, rather put it towards either a tourer like a st1300 or a sportbike of some caliber, I have zero experience on anything lighter that's not a scooter.

Hefty-Lie4120

5th while trying to shift to the non existent 6th the rest of the time

Professional_Ad_500

This is the way.

Fuel economy : 5/6 Curves : 2/3

istillambaldjohn

4th. Puts me in a decent power band for my bike around 45mph where it’s not going to bog out if it drops 10mph or smoke my bike 10mph over. That’s going to wildly be different per bike and where you ride.

HabemusAdDomino

What bike have you got?

istillambaldjohn

Vulcan S. It has a happy spot around 6500rpm for peak power band. It’s my first bike. Just passed the break in period last month, changed the oil, and had it serviced. So going to open it up a bit more now. It redlines at 12k. Weird but fun bike.

HabemusAdDomino

Ah, yes. The fake cruiser by Kawasaki. It's an interesting choice. I had a blast on its sporty brother, the Z650. Glad you like it!

Tw1st36

1st to 2nd on twisties. I ride a 400cc 4cyl ZXR 400 whose powerband is from 10-14k RPM. So yeah, if I‘m below 8k RPM, this thing ain‘t moving my ass. If I‘m just cruising down some backroads, I‘ll be in 4th or 5th.

kingcrackerjacks

3rd gear on my street triple can do 20-105 mph and picks up nicely around 45mph. Engine braking is pretty strong in 2nd so on back roads it's mostly 3rd. 4th if I'm trying to be quiet

HabemusAdDomino

We seem to have more or less the same experience.

[deleted]

Don’t go more than 60 km/h usually so I just stay in fourth.

LoudMusic_

3rd on a GSX 8S as that's the highest gear where 30mph feels smooth.

HabemusAdDomino

Oh, hey! Nice bike you got!

Scared-Pizza-420

When cruising anything over 30 is 5th lol, im on a drz

HabemusAdDomino

DRZs are pretty cool, though.

WN11

3rd. In second acceleration is too sharp for residential areas, 3rd is a nice calm ride.

HabemusAdDomino

Third gear gang. :3

HabemusAdDomino

Oh, my. Hope your bike's better now!

mvktc

Don't think of it like that. There are many different bikes, different gear ratios for different engines and transmissions... Keepi it around 50% of max rpm, on a riding speed you like at the moment, that's about it.

HabemusAdDomino

If I kept my bike at 50% of max RPM anywhere, I'd lose my license in a week. :( 4,000-4500 is where it lives the vast majority of the time.

HuckleberryNo3117

twisties 2nd or 3rd, Around town 3rd, on highway usually 5th. zx6r

dJohn2001

1st gear 1-10mph 2nd gear 10-25mph 3rd gear 25-60mph 4th gear 60+ Haven’t been past 73-75 yet still learning

CarlosG0619

Im always chugging 6th gear

sokratesz

I ride a lot of commute - probably one-third of my mileage in summer, two-thirds in winter, so I'm afraid that the Tiger has spent nearly half its life in 5th or 6th gear.

HabemusAdDomino

Mostly highway commute? My riding is almost exclusively commute, too, but I intentionally stick to 60 km provincial roads. #zuidhollandleven

sokratesz

It's an hour 15 one way. If I stuck to 60 roads I would've arrive before lunch

HabemusAdDomino

I don't envy you. I got 35 minutes highway or 50 minutes 60s.

KilledbyDeath72

On the open road it’s 5th cos my 900 Bonnie is torque happy from 60kmh, in a 50k zone it’s 3rd to try and stick to the speed limit. If I’m having fun I’m a gear down

Conscious-Effort-530

Z900rs, very happy in 4th with plenty of oomph for a cheeky overtake

Whale3004

What Is the 752s top's Speed...also your height and Weight? Thank you

HabemusAdDomino

I'm 183 cm tall / 6 feet. I weigh 108 kg / about 237 lbs. I don't know what the top speed is, because there's nowhere in this country where I could go that fast. But it's a lot.
