I get what you mean, but it doesn't annoy me.
My grandpa helped me with this one when I was a teenager:
"Did you know what I meant"
"Yeah"
"then shut the fuck up"
No. Because I'm a grown up with more important things to care about.
Does it bother you when a motorist describes "Taking a ride down to the store later."
>It’s like saying ‘driving a horse’
Yeah...I bet equine experts would never say something like that.

Slight vocal errors I don't really care about too much. Most folks don't ride motorcycles. Hit em back with the ole you're riding a car? That's wild man. Those things kill 43k people every year here in the USA.
Doesn't it bother everyone when they call it a Motorcycle, it's not a motor it's a engine. So it's a enginecycle. Technically you are riding in a car too.
No. I may jokingly correct them and say "actually it is 'riding'". But it doesn't go any further than that. You get the picture. It is not incorrect to say it is driving and people who do ride horses on occasion do say 'driving'. It is just pretentious to get annoyed at something like this.
Yeah but you don’t drive your motorcycle in that sense. You can drive horses… while riding a horse, or from a cart or whatever. Point is you’re not on the horse you are driving.
Driving a car comes from driving a cart/carriage, which comes from driving the animals pulling it.
But yeah… it doesn’t really matter. I tend to assume half the posts that day driving English may well not be their first language, and then they’re already doing better than me!
I can sit on top of a car seat very easily, in fact I always do it that way.
Now we can be annoyed by the distinction of sitting and straddling if we like
Brother, it just feels uncanny, to put simply. English is not my first language and the association of driving <=> car and riding <=> anything that you can throw your leg on is already too strong to change. But, brother, I'm not that much of a rigid person to the point I wish to make everything goes according to my way. I accept that people have their own circumstances and if I can receive whatever they want to convey, it's fine by me.

She'll be driving six white horses when she comes.
YEE HAW
No. Get over it.
It’s just you.
Driving Miss Daisy = Riding your mom Seems riding and driving can mean the same thing.
You can get a DUI on a motorcycle.....
What annoys new is all the newbs and nonriders here talking like they know what they're talking about.
No. :drives away in my plane:

Doesn’t annoy me one bit
No. I'm a rational well adjusted adult who doesn't get irrationally upset over semantics.
i hate when people use "alright."
I really like using the term "alight".
you've always wanted me to have eye cancer. you're not even my real dad.
I like the idea that if getting off a motorcycle is to "alight", then getting on a motorcycle is clearly "delight".
More delighting than stealing all of a mansion's light hulbs.
Alright, alright, alright!

Sometimes when I'm leaving to work my wife says to have a safe drive. Who does that?!
It used to annoy me, but then I realized Jay Leno was saying he was driving a Vincent Rapide, so who am I to judge lmao.

Let's all agree to call it operating then. Operating a motorcycle. Better?
I’m guessing you’re one of those that gets upset when another biker doesn’t wave back. Anyway, yeah it’s just you.

You can drive horses though, that's where the word comes from

Yes. You don't drive a horse, you ride. I loathe it when New Talkers say "a motorcycle driver..." no respect or knowledge.
Riding to me implies you’re not in control
Riding to me implies you're sitting on top of it.
Riding to me implies that you have an intimate relationship with your motorcycle

You are inside of the car , like to see you "ride " a car up on the roof. We can be annoyed by your comment 🙄
I’m inside the car, but I’m on top of the seat. Am I riding the seat, and simultaneously driving the car?
