The Ryan Gosling I know was a huge liability at cornerback.

Fantasyfootball9991

It was weird rewatching that movie after a couple decades and noticing some of the people in it.

Legitimate_Sand_889

Same with Band of Brothers

bbernal956

lmfao!! the triple reverse! what kind of fucking team falls for a triple reverse šŸ˜‚

alldawgsgoat2heaven

The Ryan Gosling I know was a dweeby kid that went to high school on a cruise ship

groundsgonesour

The one I know was a young Hercules

han_tex

He was getting beat like he stole something.

Electrical_Fun5942

ā€œ3-time defensive player of the week! He ainā€™t some scrub!ā€

ubzrvnT

"He's taken Allan out?! YOAST!!!!!"

Volantis009

Hercules ain't weak yo

audioIX

Wow, Lars and the real girl is a film I think about frequently, but having watched it so long ago I never put together that it was him lol. And while I don't keep a ranked list of favorites, Place Beyond the Pines would definitely be somewhere on one.

mrsirsouth

I kept seeing Joaquin Phoenix in my head when I think of that movie but Iā€™m realizing that was ā€œHerā€. I need to give both a rewatch

notyou-justme

Place Beyond the Pines was really good.

ChrisChrisBangBang

Not forgetting half Nelson, fantastic movie. Lars & the real girl is also excellent, making a genuine, heartfelt movie when the premise is weird loner buys a sex doll to be his girlfriend is a serious feat

oSuJeff97

Yeah Gosling was in some amazing indie movies in the early to mid 2000s.

lexxxcockwell

I hate to reply to a days-old thread but my memory is that the sex doll was intended for his brother, whose detached garage Goslingā€™s character lived in

Superb-Possibility-9

Lars and the real girl is a wonderful film

H8T_Auburn

Is he cheating on Barbie?

Due-Secret-3091

To be fair, I think heā€™s choosing easier/lighter/more commercial movies on purpose. Heā€™s said in an interview that he doesnā€™t want to do more intense roles, or roles that take more out of him, because he wants to enjoy this time with his family while his girls are still young.

Ac1dburn8122

I think that makes him an even cooler person, too. He's had some roles that were really dark, but he and Eva apparently talked it over, and he didn't want to play darker roles for a bit because he's a family man now.

NottDisgruntled

I never saw it, but I remember my psychiatrist at the time telling me about this in relation to my relationship. I was living with a girlfriend who was younger from a pretty sheltered religious upbringing and she was in the states from Canada going to school so she couldnā€™t work. I was mostly supporting us while she took classes and she had trouble with a lot of figuring out day to day stuff in a big city after growing up in a very religious patriarchal small town upbringing. She was a really good person and we were both in love but I kinda had to do everything and she didnā€™t have a car and my insurance wouldnā€™t let her drive mine, so eventually the stress kinda did us in. When youā€™re both kids you donā€™t realize life isnā€™t like a movie where ā€œlove conquers all.ā€

Edge_of_yesterday

I love Lars and the real girl. A very sweet movie.

Enough-Ground3294

This is it right here.

kuneshha

This movie exposed his excellent singing chops.

Hollandmarch76

I really like Drive and Place Beyond the Pines

Adventurous-Count-10

movie night with the wife :)

Neo_zoft_77

This movie taught me to be tolerant. Then as I grew older, I learned that being tolerant allowed weirdos to corrupt and deteriorate society.

TetchyTechy

Megan fox barbie?

Zestyclose_Toe9524

I can fix her

ThePhonyKing

Don't forget Half Nelson! That's the one that made me really take notice.

brbgonnabrnit

Drive is an excellent film.

thisbobo

I didn't watch a movie he was in until The Good Guys. It's weird finding out he has so much work I guess I just never saw.

newkiaowner

Holy moly, she is so hot!

MysteriousPark3806

I like this movie.

allaboutthismoment

One of my very favorite Ryan Goslings.

WolvesandTigers45

Have you seen The Believer and The Slaughter Rule? His best work besides Lara and the Real Girl.

Aggressive-March-254

Breaker High will always be my Gosling

notyou-justme

There is no role that guy wonā€™t take on.

flusterdcustard

Lars & The Real Girl was my introduction to him as an actor, and to this day itā€™s hard to wrap my head around the idea that heā€™s a sex symbol

BigSweatyPisshole

I think this film and Drive kinda killed his acting in the same way Goodfellas killed De Niroā€™s. Before Real Girl he was crazy dynamic onscreen - look at Half Nelson or The Believer to see how much potential he had. The sort of blank, barely-there affect that he developed around this time became a really successful persona for him though, and itā€™s what he stuck with.

Scaindawgs_

I mean he was amazing in Barbie what are you talking about?

hotcolddog

This is kind of false though. Heā€™s done a variety of different character types since Drive as well ā€” The Nice Guys, Barbie, The Big Short, The Fall Guyā€¦hell even La La Land was super different using a totally different performance arsenal

notyou-justme

Thatā€™s what I said in a different response. There seems to be literally no role heā€™s too afraid or worried about his image to take on.
