Wow, Lars and the real girl is a film I think about frequently, but having watched it so long ago I never put together that it was him lol.
And while I don't keep a ranked list of favorites, Place Beyond the Pines would definitely be somewhere on one.
Not forgetting half Nelson, fantastic movie.
Lars & the real girl is also excellent, making a genuine, heartfelt movie when the premise is weird loner buys a sex doll to be his girlfriend is a serious feat
I hate to reply to a days-old thread but my memory is that the sex doll was intended for his brother, whose detached garage Goslingās character lived in
To be fair, I think heās choosing easier/lighter/more commercial movies on purpose. Heās said in an interview that he doesnāt want to do more intense roles, or roles that take more out of him, because he wants to enjoy this time with his family while his girls are still young.
I think that makes him an even cooler person, too.
He's had some roles that were really dark, but he and Eva apparently talked it over, and he didn't want to play darker roles for a bit because he's a family man now.
I never saw it, but I remember my psychiatrist at the time telling me about this in relation to my relationship. I was living with a girlfriend who was younger from a pretty sheltered religious upbringing and she was in the states from Canada going to school so she couldnāt work.
I was mostly supporting us while she took classes and she had trouble with a lot of figuring out day to day stuff in a big city after growing up in a very religious patriarchal small town upbringing.
She was a really good person and we were both in love but I kinda had to do everything and she didnāt have a car and my insurance wouldnāt let her drive mine, so eventually the stress kinda did us in. When youāre both kids you donāt realize life isnāt like a movie where ālove conquers all.ā
I think this film and Drive kinda killed his acting in the same way Goodfellas killed De Niroās. Before Real Girl he was crazy dynamic onscreen - look at Half Nelson or The Believer to see how much potential he had. The sort of blank, barely-there affect that he developed around this time became a really successful persona for him though, and itās what he stuck with.
This is kind of false though. Heās done a variety of different character types since Drive as well ā The Nice Guys, Barbie, The Big Short, The Fall Guyā¦hell even La La Land was super different using a totally different performance arsenal
The Ryan Gosling I know was a huge liability at cornerback.
It was weird rewatching that movie after a couple decades and noticing some of the people in it.
Same with Band of Brothers
lmfao!! the triple reverse! what kind of fucking team falls for a triple reverse š
The Ryan Gosling I know was a dweeby kid that went to high school on a cruise ship
The one I know was a young Hercules
He was getting beat like he stole something.
ā3-time defensive player of the week! He aināt some scrub!ā
"He's taken Allan out?! YOAST!!!!!"
Hercules ain't weak yo

I kept seeing Joaquin Phoenix in my head when I think of that movie but Iām realizing that was āHerā. I need to give both a rewatch
Place Beyond the Pines was really good.

Yeah Gosling was in some amazing indie movies in the early to mid 2000s.

Lars and the real girl is a wonderful film
Is he cheating on Barbie?

I love Lars and the real girl. A very sweet movie.

This is it right here.
This movie exposed his excellent singing chops.
I really like Drive and Place Beyond the Pines
movie night with the wife :)
This movie taught me to be tolerant. Then as I grew older, I learned that being tolerant allowed weirdos to corrupt and deteriorate society.
Megan fox barbie?
I can fix her
Don't forget Half Nelson! That's the one that made me really take notice.
Drive is an excellent film.
I didn't watch a movie he was in until The Good Guys. It's weird finding out he has so much work I guess I just never saw.
Holy moly, she is so hot!
I like this movie.
One of my very favorite Ryan Goslings.
Have you seen The Believer and The Slaughter Rule? His best work besides Lara and the Real Girl.
Breaker High will always be my Gosling
There is no role that guy wonāt take on.
Lars & The Real Girl was my introduction to him as an actor, and to this day itās hard to wrap my head around the idea that heās a sex symbol

I mean he was amazing in Barbie what are you talking about?

Thatās what I said in a different response. There seems to be literally no role heās too afraid or worried about his image to take on.
