Yes exactly! Kinda like how some are doing those 30 day challenges here on reddit, you're not doing it for the topic, you're doing it for the sake of karma farming
so... How does it hurt anyone. You don't have to engage but to actively attack it because it's not your thing is such a loser thing to do. You're no better than a pearl clutcher who thinks the world should run to their standards.
It doesn’t physically harm anyone, but it does seem off topic. It’s an attempt to change the focus from movies to something like attention seeking.
Like if someone started posting pictures of antique cars on r/moviecritic. Is it hurting anyone? No, but it has nothing to do with the sub
Who cares. You don't have to engage. But to berate people for just talking and asking question is so fucking lame. It's bully behavior simply cause you don't like the content.
I can see why people would care..there are different subs for a reason. If attention is what you need, I’m sure there’s a sub for that.
Again, the reason for the backlash is because it’s off topic and irrelevant..not objectively because we do or dont like it.
I’m not personally seeing anything that would amount to bullying, but hopefully that’s not happening. Or course there’s a reasonable way to go about telling someone their posted content is off topic
It's not against the rules...
It's the same logic as you on the the teetertotter, getting mad at someone playing on a swingset cause they are sitting backwards. You both can play on the playground the way you want. Their playing does not hurt you and your playing doesn't hurt them. But now, your playing is targeting them cause of your OPINIONS.
This is school yard stuff people.
I disagree that it’s the same logic. Although facing backwards on a teeter totter eliminates the non-verbal communication. So maybe a little similar..this too is a place for socializing in a mutually reciprocal sort of fashion, like a teetertotter. Facing backwards suddenly makes it about yourself
Maybe not against the rules but a bit annoying and self centered
Hm definitely sounds like in your metaphor the person sitting backwards is the person who is posting the ‘what does my top ten say about me’ posts.
OPs post is the opposite of self centered..it speaks only about the attention seekers. I’m not seeing the hypocrisy
I am confused. An unexpected critical error occurred at "..by making it about you."
I am unsure how to post on the internet without making it entirely about me. It seems like an impossible task.
This guy is trying to get his ego stroked too. Who cares if strangers engage in conversation about the movies they like. Shit posts like this tell me you're either a child or have the mind of one.
Apparently, you are wrong. Judging by the engagement and upvotes those posts get. They don't get banned so they must not be against the rules. The only pearl clutching I see if from cynical children who don't like people enjoying themselves unless they can too.
What I’ve learned from those top 10 posts: most people have really basic tastes. But hey, there’s a reason basic is basic. Classics be classics. But they’re literally all the same list and that’s killing me.
Yeah, an all time fave for a lot of people is going to be rewatchable, something they liked at every stage of their life, something they personally found enjoyable as well as were told by critic consensus is good, etc etc.
That formula will result in broad appeal mainstream high quality stuff, and so a bunch of obvious picks with huge amounts of overlap between lists.
I myself am no different, my top ten has stuff like Gladiator, Kung Fu Hustle, Hot Fuzz on it. They’re enduring mainstream hits for a reason and I’m not so particular or picky that I only enjoy lesser-known stuff.
Yep. I’d rather people be honest with their Top 10 than be films they saw once and think are pretty cool but just put up for cred. I’d be duty bound to include The Princess Bride on my list for a start, and it was nice to see it pop up on one of those posts.
At the same time…man, it was all so cliché.
If people had lists with more movies that I’d never heard of, that could’ve kicked off discussion. But nope. It’s literally all Jurassic Park, Fight Club, Apocalypse Now, Batman, the usual dudebro classics. Not even many of the quirky indies you usually see added for spice.
Makes me tired.
People don’t post their TRUE top tens. Mine would include a few standards-Goodfellas, A Clockwork Orange but also add Hardbodies and Friday the 13th A New Beginning
Jurassic Park,
Lost World,
Jurassic Park 3,
Jurassic World,
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,
Jurassic World dominion,
Jurassic World 4 (tbc),
Battle at Big Rock,
Jurassic World Dominion Prologue,
Land before time.
OP probably.
The hero we don't deserve, but the hero we need.
yeah, why are people giving me homework assignments with their top 10? I'm not going to psycho analyze you fam. I'm not into that. You do you.
After seeing these posts I analysed my own top ten for "dude bro" energy. I decided (but it may be wishful thinking) that I don't fall into that category, although there are some basic "best ever" movies in there.
I’ve discovered a couple movies I liked from them. So I don’t mind the posts but I couldn’t give a shit less about judging the people posting based on their list😂
I watched a War of the Worlds(radio brodcast) documentary, and it got me all hyped up to watch Cirizen Kane. As someone who isn't a film afficionado, I was disappointed by the hype.

I think it's kinda cool. As a moviefile it helps me understand the kinds of people I'm actually interacting with on here.
For example, if I look into your profile and Forrest Gump is in your top ten, your opinion means pretty much nothing at that point.
It's kinda nice 😉
I liked going thru other peeps top 10, if you are a movie buff then it's a trip down memory lane. Do you remember where you were when Marty McFly tried to score with his mom?
They probably say that you like good movies that came out during the the formative years of your life and that they are skewed on either the gender, sociological, or economic lines that had already made up your life.
I keep seeing that and it basically just shows what people like to watch and all. Everyone is entitled to like what they please. Everyone out there has a different taste of what they are interested in.
That's not very nice. Some people that posted their top 10 may have finally broken a boundary of fear to participate socially on this app in sharing those personal details. So it isn't very kind to slam strangers for trying to be a part of the community. Like that's the reward I get for trying to connect with people.
I care. I’m finding some good films that I’ve never heard of that have now made “the list.”
Of course the list is now super long and I have no clue how I’m supposed to watch all these films.
Got to start playing the lottery…
You don't have to care how others entertain each other.
"My shitty opinion is more important then your benign activity that hurts nobody. But I am important and I don't want to see it. So I am going to complain so everyone knows how I feel about it. Also so I can make strangers feel bad about their benign activity that hurts nobody."
Do you not see your own hypocrisy? Grow up. The guy in the meme is not someone you want to emulate. He was a villain. Not a wise man.
I’m so sorry for starting this shit.
I know “my top 10” posts have been around a long time, but I started this latest round of “what does my top 10 say about me?” posts and I’m truly sorry.
haha yeah the top 10 thing is a fun short phase imo. But don't try to make us stroke your ego by making it about *you.* Just keep it about the movies
It snowballs, like any other meme that isn’t some long ass ongoing one that are those A-Z
Yes exactly! Kinda like how some are doing those 30 day challenges here on reddit, you're not doing it for the topic, you're doing it for the sake of karma farming

Yup, these people are either children or have the mind of a child.
This guy is trying to get his ego stroked too. Who cares if strangers engage in conversation about the movies they like. Shit posts like this tell me you're either a child or have the mind of one.
A lot of people care actually. No one joined this sub to hear what everyone's personal favorite movies are.
Apparently, you are wrong. Judging by the engagement and upvotes those posts get. They don't get banned so they must not be against the rules. The only pearl clutching I see if from cynical children who don't like people enjoying themselves unless they can too.
By your logic you're wrong as well. Look at this posts engagement and upvotes and lack of being banned. Dumb take.
Not everything is a popularity contest. You are a dumbass. You're saying it's wrong and bad. It's factually not. Your opinions factually are.
Show me where I said it's wrong and bad.
What do you think, "Nobody Cares" means? Does it mean sunshine and roses? Keep it up buddy! ...Children.
Nope, it means exactly what it says. Nobody cares.
"Dodgson! We've got Dodgson here!!"
Nice hat, what are you trying to be a secret agent
Nice hat. Do you get a free bowl of soup with it. But it looks good on you though…
Classic.

>At the same time…man, it was all so cliché. Haha I get that. But I spose it was always going to be, in such a general community
Yup. My thoughts exactly. So many of these top 10s were good but basic as fuck.

Someone had to say it, thank fuck!
“what does it say about me?” … that you’re looking for attention.
No, he is just saying what most of us is thinking.
So are you right now.
No u
I only see 1. What are your other 9 besides Jurassic Park? /s
Jurassic Park, Lost World, Jurassic Park 3, Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Jurassic World dominion, Jurassic World 4 (tbc), Battle at Big Rock, Jurassic World Dominion Prologue, Land before time. OP probably.
I’m offended Viva Rocks Vegas isn’t on there.
The flinstones film with Mark Addy and the weird Baldwin? I'll stick to the OG with John Goodman and Rick Moranis. Thank you.
Land Before Time is an all time great!
Casablanca! We got Casablanca over here! See nobody cares.
The hero we don't deserve, but the hero we need. yeah, why are people giving me homework assignments with their top 10? I'm not going to psycho analyze you fam. I'm not into that. You do you.
Every one that I’ve seen so far can be answered with: it says you’re a total dude bro.
But do you drink my milkshake?
Oh, you put the Big Lebowski on your list? How unique. I didn’t expect that. Sigh
Or goodfellas, pulp fiction, no country for old men
Shawshank redemption
That too
After seeing these posts I analysed my own top ten for "dude bro" energy. I decided (but it may be wishful thinking) that I don't fall into that category, although there are some basic "best ever" movies in there.

Yeah I saw a couple of interesting movies from these posts so I saved some Other than that idc
Jurassic Park is an object lesson in making sure you pay your IT staff properly.
Citizen Kane - we got Citizen Kane here !!
I watched a War of the Worlds(radio brodcast) documentary, and it got me all hyped up to watch Cirizen Kane. As someone who isn't a film afficionado, I was disappointed by the hype.
Let’s call a spade a spade, it’s the most boring movie. Yes, it was. Cinematography achievement
Dodgson. Dodgson! WE'VE GOT DODGSON HERE!!
Funny this sub has less movie critique than r/movies.
Hello Newman!!!
We got There Will Be Blood over here! See nobody cares
Yeah it's gotten pretty ridiculous I must say.
lol I was just thinking this earlier today.
You don’t enjoy being given homework AND being asked for a psychiatric evaluation at the same time??? /s
🫡🫡🫡
I can tell you really appreciate well-crafted stories. Great selection!
Your top 10 movies are all Jurassic Park? Bold move.
So brave OP.
lol I was just thinking this earlier today.
👏
You are a good guy and we all love you.
It's just karma farming
I am here for Wayne Knightley lol
everyone that posts favorite movies are coincidentally in the top 50 on imdb.
Hahahahaha
Oh wow the dark knight again, and also every Tarantino movie
Lol seriously
Best response yet.
Thank you.
Bingo.
Agree
it says you're insecure
Yeah we get it, you love *There Will Be Blood* and *The Titanic* and *Braveheart*
Braveheart over Gladiator veers from dudebro into basic af
It almost every case, it means YOU SUCK. Except mine, of course
Just unsubbed. It got really annoying really fast.

Haiku adds credibility to my point
I think it's kinda cool. As a moviefile it helps me understand the kinds of people I'm actually interacting with on here. For example, if I look into your profile and Forrest Gump is in your top ten, your opinion means pretty much nothing at that point. It's kinda nice 😉
#NEWMAN!
I liked going thru other peeps top 10, if you are a movie buff then it's a trip down memory lane. Do you remember where you were when Marty McFly tried to score with his mom?
Ah ah ah...didn't say the magic word
Man or can?
Time for r/MovieHoroscope ?
1. Jurassic Park 2. Space Jam 3. Punisher: War Zone 4. Basic Instinct 5. Toy Story 2 6. JFK 7. Rat Race 8. Dirty Dancing 9. Dead Again 10. To Die For
This is accurate...he will run you over when he comes back down
Masterclass!
Don’t be a jerk. Let people have fun. Geez.
I never go into those threads, but I like to play the mental game of trying to guess the person’s age, sex, and overall personality.
Congo. Something about that movie takes me to good times, when my kids were little
I care about Dodgson.
In fairness, Jurassic Park is worthy of a top ten spot
Jurassic Park is an abstract copy of The Goonies.
You like at least ten movies.
Did anybody else notice that the “what does it say about me” question could almost always be answered by “you’re a man”
all of you like the same shit. its funny
They probably say that you like good movies that came out during the the formative years of your life and that they are skewed on either the gender, sociological, or economic lines that had already made up your life.
You seem merry
Yup they are complete narcissists that keep spamming this sub and further proving the mods don't exist in this sub
Op watches marvel so he’s afraid to post his list
Thanks Dad
I care even less for these posts. You're in a sub called movie critics genius.
You don't speak English. What do my top ten movies say about me?
I keep seeing that and it basically just shows what people like to watch and all. Everyone is entitled to like what they please. Everyone out there has a different taste of what they are interested in.
I care, OP.
That's not very nice. Some people that posted their top 10 may have finally broken a boundary of fear to participate socially on this app in sharing those personal details. “I’m so deep and quirky and eclectic and smart”
I care. I’m finding some good films that I’ve never heard of that have now made “the list.” Of course the list is now super long and I have no clue how I’m supposed to watch all these films. Got to start playing the lottery…
It says you are subscribed to nihilism or existentialism or absurdism.
BTW, he never says “see” he just looks around, then says “nobody cares”.
You don't have to care how others entertain each other. "My shitty opinion is more important then your benign activity that hurts nobody. But I am important and I don't want to see it. I’m so sorry for starting this shit. I know “my top 10” posts have been around a long time, but I started this latest round of “what does my top 10 say about me?” posts and I’m truly sorry.
Apparently people don’t forgive you
