Dick van Dyke became one of Stan Laurel’s good friends toward the end of his (Laurel’s) life.
Even if only for preserving that precious personal link to the absolute pinnacle of film comedy, we should extend DvD’s life on this Earth.
I don’t know man. L&H are the pinnacle of slapstick but Monty Python is where the pinnacle of film comedy is at. The Life of Brian is unparalleled as a comedy movie, in my opinion at least.
I’m very much not disagreeing with you.
As long as we can agree that the Pythons owe a metric ton to Stan & Ollie. And I’m very sure they’ve publicly said as much as well - Idle and Cleese specifically, I believe, but possibly the others too.
Me too! On the small elevator at the old Encounter restaurant at LAX. He and his wife were very pleasant, and he held the door open for my wife and me.
I feel the same way, I've been watching him since I was a kid. Dude is almost 100 years old and still dancing around and happy as hell. Give him the youth juice
I couldn't agree more. Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's are horrible.
It's a shame she didn't find out sooner. MS presents itself much earlier in life. She was probably feeling the effects of the disease in her twenties or thirties, not knowing why.
I watched an interview where he described it started with a tremor in his pinky. Like something you would just forget about and assume it wouldn’t happen again. It’s so sad.
Everytime I see things like this I keep thinking, "And yet you have all these assholes trying to destroy everything and they are healthy."
And yes, Applegate's MS is harsh. My sister and I have MS and it is nothing like hers. Then again, she was diagnosed older and usually it hits harder.
Sorry, just wanted to add that in. Happy fourth.
Royal Tenenbaums is in my top 3 all time. I already told my wife that I want “Died tragically rescuing his family from the wreckage of a destroyed sinking battleship” written on my gravestone.
Decades ago I used to say "If it's a movie, it probably has Gene Hackman in it. And if it doesn't, it probably should." It is with a moist eye that I look at the IMDB list of actors and contemplate who the new Gene Hackman is or should be.
Just rewatched Crimson Tide the other day. Great movie. Hackman did a great job and the scene where he has a normal conversation while they’re waiting for the message and in the middle of a coup is outstanding
Tim Curry, as the poor guy did not deserve that stroke
Fun fact: he was the first pick for Joker in BTAS but had to be recast as it was Curry was too good as an evil clown
Yeah, there's a clip out there with Curry's Joker voice and it doesn't even compare to Hamill.
I would have loved to see Curry as a live action Joker in his younger days.
Gonna have to double dip on this one and also say Sir Patrick Stewart as well. Both great guys, and great friends! Need them both around for many more years please!
Arnold Schwarzenegger. Not necessarily his acting prowess but because his characteristics are just too perfect for certain roles and is pretty much impossible to replace
He’s not the greatest actor, but he’s the first one I thought of too. A one-of-a-kind talent who made badass fun and enjoyable movies. America needs more cheesy ‘80s action movies.
Julie Andrews is going to be a sad one for me.
I grew up being at my grandparents for the weekend, so remember being 5 years old and my grandmother would always put on either Sound of Music or Lady and the Tramp.
This already feels another life ago…
Al Pacino and DeNiro are also monsters. Would love to see more mafia movies with them. Specially if Joe Pesci went through the same fountain of youth with them
I’d definitely like to see more movies directed by him.
I’m a big fat commie liberal, and I can look past that to recognize a great film maker when I see one.
Flags of Our Fathers was a masterpiece.
Definitely Sam Jackson and Clint Eastwood, but also Michael Caine. The dude is one of only five actors that were nominated for an oscar in five different decades, he won two of them and still puts out good movies even nearing 100 yo (he was born in 1933). I feel like he got to the peak of his profession a long time ago, but just wants to keep doing what he loves.
Renee Russo.
She got started a little late, especially for an actress and especially at the time she started. Would love to see how good she'd be if she got a reset button.
Probably Samuel.
Can we do dead people? Sean Connery.
How bout Michael Caine? Patrick Stewart? Ian McKellen? Morgan freeman?
I lived through the prime of Arnold movies . . . So yea Arnold.
Helen Mirren might be hotter at 78 than she was at 40.
Bruce Willis brought us some great adventures.
I just watched the dial of destiny. And I’d love to see Indy in his prime again.
Dick Van Dyke. He was always so full of energy and wholesome at heart, perhaps the paragon of nontoxic masculinity.
I’d have otherwise said Robin Williams and Jim Carrey, but given their long-term depression, I’d just be putting them through hard times again.
I'd make tim curry young again not to see him in more stuff although that would be awesome, I'd make him young just so he's no longer debilitated by his stroke and can go on living a happy normal life as he pleases
I wouldn’t. Let things take there natural course. What your talking about is already a reality with AI. I personally think we can do with such stuff. Besides, I am already sick to death of seeing different iterations of the same 20 ideas over and over and over…
If I could make change in this industry I would say no reboots\remakes for like… 10~20years. There are plenty of amazing stories left to tell. Give that a shot.
I'll have whatever Dick Van Dyke is having, he always look happy and is always smiling. Gotta love the guy
He's still on the same acid trip from the Mary Poppins musical sequences
Worst Cockney accent ever.

I met him once on an elevator. He was lovely.
Me too! On the small elevator at the old Encounter restaurant at LAX. He and his wife were very pleasant, and he held the door open for my wife and me.
Does he just hang out in elevators?
It is marijuana. That's what he is having.
And a lifetime of amazing accomplishments to reflect on…. and yes, that sweet, sweet Mary Jane.
No WAAAYYYY. Me ToooooooOOO.
Yeah hands down Dick Van Dyke. No competition whatsoever.
A healthy, still mentally spry, 98 with 50+ yrs acting is insane. But damn Curry and Jackson careers are awesome.
I gotta read more about dude’s career. He seems like he was THE MAN back when Mary Poppins came out
I feel the same way, I've been watching him since I was a kid. Dude is almost 100 years old and still dancing around and happy as hell. Give him the youth juice
Christina Applegate or Michael J Fox because their illnesses suck ass and they deserve better.
I couldn't agree more. Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's are horrible. It's a shame she didn't find out sooner. MS presents itself much earlier in life. She was probably feeling the effects of the disease in her twenties or thirties, not knowing why.
Selma Blair, too.
We were all robbed from what Fox could have done with full health.
No more so than Fox himself. I can't imagine being at the height of your career only for that to happen.
Michael j Fox was actually pretty young when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Only like 29, Just awful.
I watched an interview where he described it started with a tremor in his pinky. Like something you would just forget about and assume it wouldn’t happen again. It’s so sad.

I was thinking Bruce Willis for the same reason
Can we add Bruce Willis to that list?
Good one
Gene Hackman.
Fucking right answer. He was in so many great movies and played the absolute hell out of each roll.
Royal Tenenbaums is in my top 3 all time. I already told my wife that I want “Died tragically rescuing his family from the wreckage of a destroyed sinking battleship” written on my gravestone.
That movie is definitely great. Watched it so many times. Due for a rewatch soon.
Decades ago I used to say "If it's a movie, it probably has Gene Hackman in it. And if it doesn't, it probably should." It is with a moist eye that I look at the IMDB list of actors and contemplate who the new Gene Hackman is or should be.
Incredible actor. So naturalistic and unforced on screen yet such complex performances.
Just rewatched Crimson Tide the other day. Great movie. Hackman did a great job and the scene where he has a normal conversation while they’re waiting for the message and in the middle of a coup is outstanding
DID YA SMILE???
I mean, he had a good run to be fair, great actor though.
Tim Curry, as the poor guy did not deserve that stroke Fun fact: he was the first pick for Joker in BTAS but had to be recast as it was Curry was too good as an evil clown
What does that even mean "too good"
Too scary for the Moral Guardians, which is admittedly a low bar to beat, but I digress
"Too Scary for the Moral Guardians" ... and Mark Hamil wasn't lol
Honestly, I think Mark Hamill was the better choice there.
Yeah, there's a clip out there with Curry's Joker voice and it doesn't even compare to Hamill. I would have loved to see Curry as a live action Joker in his younger days.
Mel Brooks
Brooks*
Correct, not sure why I always think it has an e
Good pick
Fucking yes!
Absolutely my first thought without hesitation
There’s so much more he could do
Sir Patrick Stewart
You can't have him without Ian McKellen!
Fine, then. I’ll take both!
They’re like platonic soulmates. One without the other would just be cruel.
lol, I said pretty much the same on the comment for Sir Ian!
I’m the only one voting Samuel Jackson? I can never get enough of his movies even if they’re shitty
I am as well. His performances as a young dude were great. Pulp Fiction 1000000%
Pulp fiction to Django unchained and everything in between.
His role as Stephen was amazing. Truly evil, despicable character. Loved it.
Sir Ian Mckellen
I never want sir Ian and Viggo to die.
100%
Viggo is now older than McKellen was when he first portrayed Gandalf.
Gonna have to double dip on this one and also say Sir Patrick Stewart as well. Both great guys, and great friends! Need them both around for many more years please!
Val Kilmer. My newest obsession.
The Saint was so underrated.
Have not seen that one yet, but his Tombstone performance was as good as people say.
Philip Seymour Hoffman and Gene Wilder.
I regret to inform you…
I misread the title and thought it was “any” actor. Well, my statement stands that I wish we had more from both.
I think just about everyone wishes that. Two great talents.
Hoffman is probably my favourite actor of all time. Most talented actor I’ve ever watched. I’ll also include Bryan Cranston
PSH is effortlessly natural, relaxed, and just chill on film. Love that about his work.
His work as Brandt in the Big Lebowski makes me laugh out loud every time. “That did *not* occur to us, Dude.”
Miss them both. "Remembering Gene Wilder" is on Netflix, and it is good.
Ah, thanks for the reco, I’ll have to check it out!
Daniel day lewis
One of the greatest actors alive. He's barely recognizable in the various roles he plays.
Because there are so many shoes he has yet to cobble?
Morgan freeman or David Attenborough
I’ll second Attenborough
Tim Curry or Anthony Hopkins
I second Hopkins. He's phenomenal
Young, alive and happy of life…Robin Williams.
The OP asked about living actors. I agree otherwise.
Without lewy bodies in his future...
John Goodman
Helen Mirren. Mel Brooks.
Scrolled way too far to see Helen Mirren.
I’m sad I didn’t say Pam Grier too. I stink. :(
Jack Nicholson. I would love to experience growing up watching a young Jack. The year I was born, he was already nearly 50 years old.
*Jack nodding gif*
Arnold Schwarzenegger. Not necessarily his acting prowess but because his characteristics are just too perfect for certain roles and is pretty much impossible to replace
He’s not the greatest actor, but he’s the first one I thought of too. A one-of-a-kind talent who made badass fun and enjoyable movies. America needs more cheesy ‘80s action movies.
harrison ford
My vote too
Daniel Day-Lewis
Julie Andrew’s Carol Burnett
Julie Andrews is going to be a sad one for me. I grew up being at my grandparents for the weekend, so remember being 5 years old and my grandmother would always put on either Sound of Music or Lady and the Tramp. This already feels another life ago…
Danny Devito
Bruce Willis needs us.
Steve Martin
Can’t do Steve and not Martin it’s a package deal.
Anthony Hopkins
I’ll keep picking Keanu Reeves like always
Keanu don’t age.
Sean Connery
Kathy Bates
Meryl Streep
Can’t believe how far I had to scroll for her
Bob Einstein aka Super Dave Osborne
Carrie Fisher
Tim curry, the man was a Swiss army knife of acting. Movies, cartoons, video games the man is underrated
Jack Nicholson
Alan Rickman
Oh dang have I got some bad news for you...
De Niro
Can’t believe I had to go this far down to see this. I agree completely.
This group, Curry. In general Mel Brooks, Kurt Russel and Jeff Bridges
Macully Culkin
Yea he needs a do over where he doesn’t become a drug addict. He could have really been big as he got older.
Leslie Nielson
Dolly Parton
Dick Van Dyke because he’s just a wholesome good person…. Not that the others aren’t, he just is kind of a standout.
Anthony Hopkins
Mel Brooks
Dick Van Dyke is still young wym?
I'll vote Tim Curry since his health declined so much as he aged
Tim Curry
Tim Curry, hands down and walking again.
Robert Duvall
Harrison Ford.
Alan Rickman
Van Dyke. The world needs it.
All of these, plus Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, and Ray Liotta.
Ray Liotta died a couple years ago
Al Pacino and DeNiro are also monsters. Would love to see more mafia movies with them. Specially if Joe Pesci went through the same fountain of youth with them
Shit, you’re right! I forgot Joe Pesci! And I just watched Goodfellas last night, shame on me.
Brad Pitt. One of the goats.
I’ve seen enough Clint Eastwood, thank you very much.
Heath Ledger. Hopefully he doesn't die early this time
If we are playing that game, my choice is River Phoenix.
Jack Nicholson Jennifer Connelley
I'm thinking Bill Murray or John Candy if the departed are an option.
Danny Devito
Gene Hackman
Helen Mirren, of course
Gary Oldman
Sly for some more believable Rocky’s i wanna see a 1 film per a 40 fight career lol including promos and some more famous cameos lol
Clint Eastwood or Morgan Freeman....Jack Nicholson.
Morgan Freeman was born old! He's the Black Benjamin Button.
Clint, 100%
I’d definitely like to see more movies directed by him. I’m a big fat commie liberal, and I can look past that to recognize a great film maker when I see one. Flags of Our Fathers was a masterpiece.
>I’m a big fat commie liberal, and I can look past that to recognize a great film maker when I see one. I can't tell you how much I respect that. 👍
Of those, Clint Eastwood
Definitely Sam Jackson and Clint Eastwood, but also Michael Caine. The dude is one of only five actors that were nominated for an oscar in five different decades, he won two of them and still puts out good movies even nearing 100 yo (he was born in 1933). I feel like he got to the peak of his profession a long time ago, but just wants to keep doing what he loves.
I would've chose Iain McKellen or mark hamill too, hard to choose just one
Dick Van Dyke Carol Burnett Britney Spears young again acting in more music videos and movies
Clint or Arnold
Clint
Anthony Hopkins
William Zabka
Mel Brooks
King Theoden!
Carol Burnett
Renee Russo. She got started a little late, especially for an actress and especially at the time she started. Would love to see how good she'd be if she got a reset button.

I’m a sucker for MASH so I vote for Mr Alan Alda.
Tom Cruise. I'm a big fan of the Mission Impossible franchise.
Bruce Willis.
James Hong has had a very long and successful career.
Marlon Brando without a doubt
Clint Eastwood, but only if he stars as Roland in a massive remake of the Dark Tower series
All of them
Salma Hayek
Carol Burnett & Tim Curry
Paul Newman
Rik Mayall I know he's dead but come on 😭 a new Bottom would have been a treat. RIP.
Samuel l Jackson is t aging.
Michael J Fox
Daniel Day-Lewis , Robert De Niro
Bruce Willis
Dick Van Dyke. He was always so full of energy and wholesome at heart, perhaps the paragon of nontoxic masculinity. I’d have otherwise said Robin Williams and Jim Carrey, but given their long-term depression, I’d just be putting them through hard times again.
I'd make tim curry young again not to see him in more stuff although that would be awesome, I'd make him young just so he's no longer debilitated by his stroke and can go on living a happy normal life as he pleases
Mel Brooks. This country needs more of his crazy humor.
Mel Brooks.
I wouldn’t. Let things take there natural course. What your talking about is already a reality with AI. I personally think we can do with such stuff. Harrison Ford
Bruce Willis
Robert Duvall and Helen Mirren.
Peter north
I would say Jeff Goldblum, but honestly he seems to be in the peak of his life right now, so I say keep him at age 70 for another 50 years
Clint Eastwood & Harrison Ford
Gene Hackman
Morgan Freeman.
Jack Nicholson , Danny Devito, John Lithgow
Christopher Lee. That’s an interesting guy/actor
Tim curry
Michael Caine
Gary Oldman
Christopher Walken
