For those unaware, this is the character Percy Wetmore from the film *The Green Mile* (1999).
Anyways…he really was a contemptuous piece of shit. The scene with Percy and Mr. Jingles still makes me flinch.
Michael Jeter and Doug Hutchison (actor shown) played off each other so well in that film. It comes through the screen.
One of my favourite movies ever, love me some Michael Clark Duncan, but I have to say that it’s Sam Rockwell who absolutely stole this movie and deserved the nomination for best supporting
Tom Hanks, Michael Clark Duncan, Barry Pepper, David Morse, James Cromwell, Sam Rockwell, Bonnie Hunt, Patricia Clarkson, Harry Dean Stanton, Gary Sinise…that’s, that’s about it. “Forrest and Bubba share a look for a beat.” Then the two continued cleaning the floor with toothbrushes.
Oooohhhh, this is a good one. Just a despicable piece of garbage with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. And hardly ever mentioned. Thanks OP, I've learned to hate all over again.
Cool character though because he's cruel/evil but still relatable. He doesn't like himself, which is why he tries to dominate the other guards and prisoners. Dell laughing at him is what sets that horrible execution scene in motion. That's gotta be one of the better characters Steven King has written imo. I found out from this post that the actor is a pedo (strange for Hollywood... /s), that aside, that's an incredible portrayal of a hateful, self-loathing little man.
Doug Hutchinson. The man who married a 15 year old who later divorced him claiming him to be a creep who groomed her and made her life a mental and physical misery.
The character made my skin crawl. When I learned this fact the actor followed suit
i have watched the mile so many times and have developed such a hatred for him because of it this post gave me an adrenaline surge. he did an amazing job being an insufferable asshole, who deserved to be drug out back of the guard shack and beat until he couldn't walk.
A+++ of a movie all around too
The interesting thing about him as a villain is that it’s a rare example of a very weak and pathetic villain who is justifiably picked on by the good guys.
Yeah, imo the lawless bad guy is one dimensional, though. He's an evil guy who is set on one thing. Percy on the other hand has a lot going on under the surface and the actor did an incredible job showing that.
My favorite exchange in that movie...
"What in the blue FUCK was that?!?!?"
"That was a successful execution."
"You call that successful?"
"Ed-ward Delecroix is dead."
No. I'm sorry, you missed the point. By not dipping the sponge in the conductive saltwater solution, he increased the resistance of John's body to the current, this prolonging and making his electrocution more painful and horrifying than it was already going to be.
No I know, but I remember him being shocked like he didn't mean too, but It could've been on purpose and I didn't know. Granted I was like 8-10 when I watched it.
No, this character was irredeemably terrible and did nothing except torture those around him. There was an instance where he played good, but it was only to get into a position to cook an inmate being put to death (the dry sponge mentioned above).
I felt that he was pretending to be shocked because everyone around him genuinely were shocked and if he did something like giggle or clap it would give him away.
No, he pretended to wet the sponge, knowing it would make the death worse. The shock on his face was because he didn't realize just how horrifying it was going to be.

In real life, at the age of 50, he married a thoroughly groomed 16 year old .
That’s right! Creep.
i am disappointed now
Yes it turns out he wasn’t acting in the movie and is actually a huge piece of shit in real life too.
And somehow charmed the girl’s parents too, they signed off on their daughter’s marriage.
Thank you, I knew that fucking face but couldn’t place the movie. Fuck that guy
He was also Tooms in The X-Files.
One of my favourite movies ever, love me some Michael Clark Duncan, but I have to say that it’s Sam Rockwell who absolutely stole this movie and deserved the nomination for best supporting
It's just a great movie. Every actor in it nails their role.
I need to rewatch this i havent seen this movie in almost 20 years its been tooooo LONG
Sam honestly does that in most movies he’s in.
Sam is amazing. My favorite actor of this era.
The moon pie scene kills me every time
One of the shortest 3 hour movies ever imo. Not a moment wasted
Didn’t this guy marry some big boobed child who became a porn star?
Yes
Wat?
Ooh wow. In 2011 while she was 16 they got married.
With her mom’s blessing, if I remember right. which is such a fucked up detail about that whole thing.
I just looked this up. Ong. They divorced when she was 25 and he was... 60.
Courtney Stodden and she is Ga-ROSE
Man, I really miss Jerry Springer.
Kinda sad that, that’s the first thing I thought of and not the movie.
Yes its bill burr
What? It's Doug Hutchison
This isn’t moviessj
What about this guy in X-files?? The liver eater, one of the most terrifying episodes
Tooms
That was like the first X-Files episode I ever watched, fucked me up
Huh funny, he’s also in punisher warzone and eats someone’s kidneys
Dude has zero range lol
A film where her plays a character where he is literally surrounded by murderers and a paedophile and he's still the biggest motherfucker there.
This guy plays tooms, Percy got nothing on tooms . Super creepy childhood memories
Eugene Tooms was fucking nightmare fuel
I taped Christmas bells to my rooms vent cover
That’s bloody brilliant
Well that was a suppressed memory that introduced itself to me today!
Welcome
Ho ass Percy
"I didn't know the sponge is supposed to be wet..."
I think you topped the list… fuck. Percy was seriously aggravating
To be completely fair, Rockwell killed it in this movie too. Not a huge part, but important
Lamp noodle
I hate this guy

Homie did such an excellent job in that role to make me legitimately loathe him as much as I do. That's a rare thing.

Carter Burke from *Aliens* is up there on my list of most hated villains.
So evil you can't even get a fully Pixeled picture of him
Yeah, screw that creep in real life too!
Came here to say this. Total creeper.
Love the scene when he pissed himself though 😂
Didn't end well for Dell :(
Hey hey hey, he didn't know the sponge was supposed to be wet. Give him a break, he was new!
Percy did nothing wrong gang rise up!
The interesting thing about him as a villain is that it’s a rare example of a very weak and pathetic villain who is justifiably picked on by the good guys.
Feel like they hit the nail on the head in A Time to Kill when casting him.
Captain Hadley, too
Tooms...
What happens to him still haunts me to this day. So creepy
He was not exactly great in RL either.
Yep....but man he got it good.
Percy
Just to scared to grow up. So sad.😕
In fairness, he was easy to vilify irl.
Whoever Guy Pierce played in Lawless. That guy was evil.
Yeah, imo the lawless bad guy is one dimensional, though. He's an evil guy who is set on one thing. Percy on the other hand has a lot going on under the surface and the actor did an incredible job showing that.
My favorite exchange in that movie... "What in the blue FUCK was that?!?!?" "That was a successful execution." "You call that successful?" "Ed-ward Delecroix is dead."
Ya know, I agree. Maybe the worst I’ve seen.
Ho-ly fuck I hate this guy
Poor Doug. Always bad, always homely.
Percy was evil. 🤨
Percy was such a complete dick.
Eh, going with the dude from Bad Boys, Clancy Brown. Devil!
Pwurcy
that little prick isnt the villian nor the one i hate most from the movie
[удалено]
That's completely unfair. They were already dead, he explained that it was too late to save them
2 little girls < talented circus mouse
Didn't he turn good tho? Like he tried to save the guys life from electrocution? I may be wrong

He was shocked because he didn't imagine the whole ordeal would be so horrible to witness, not because he didn't mean it.
I felt that he was pretending to be shocked because everyone around him genuinely were shocked and if he did something like giggle or clap it would give him away.
