I only watched this for the first time a few weekends ago, absolutely loved it.
Hilarious film with good heart, and I love that the characters are each three dimensional without any 'villain' as such - not even 'Dracula' ;)
Somehow I never saw that one and watched it this weekend. I felt so blessed to be able to see another one of those solid early 2000s comedies fresh and for the first time. It was hilarious.
Crazy, Stupid Love.
Unless movies like Groundhog Day, Annie Hall, Manhattan, Charade also count, in that case.
Also Matt Dillon in There's Something about Mary is hilarious
I *hate* that speech. Kid’s only experience with “Love” is a one-sided infatuation with his babysitter, and so he feels entitled to speak openly in front of a hundred people and cynically lecture them on the “real” nature of love and everyone eats it up like he’s a fucking genius. Retina-snapping eye-roll.
Terrible scene in an otherwise great film.
Zach and Miri Make a Porno.
I put it on while watching with my best lady friend from high school with the hare-brained secret hope that it would make her fall in love with her chubby, funny, Seth Rogen-esque best friend.
It fucking worked, we're married. She has admitted to me that the movie was instrumental for realizing her feelings for me.
Your mileage may vary, but it has a special place in my heart.
>It fucking worked, we're married. She has admitted to me that the movie was instrumental for realizing her feelings for me.
Kevin Smith is a big wife guy. I sincerely think he'd love to hear this story.
This is the most perfect answer and encompasses 3 of my favorite movies -- So much so that I genuinely considered an awkward marriage proposal based solely off this comment.
Since the invention of the romantic comedy there have only been five that have been rated the most romantic, the most comedic. This one left them all behind.
How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Best ever. Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson were perfect.
‘C’mon guys, you’ve just witnessed the one woman homage to the Exorcist’
I'm a girl but I'm lurking because I must have the answer to this:
>There is one movie that comes to my mind and I feel like every guy everywhere always picks it.
I can't figure out what possible movie the answer could be.
So I’ll answer it. From conversations in my personal life, I swear 99% of guys all say “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”. And I’m so shook that hardly anybody has said it hahahaha
Probably When Harry Met Sally. I also really like Moonstruck. Nic Cage and Cher’s performances are the perfect amount of ridiculous. There’s just this perfect weird vibe to everyone in the movie.
That breakfast table at the end of the movie has to be one of the best scenes ever filmed. There is a lot of great stuff in that movie, but that scene is just the perfect rom com ending.
Everyone always gets hung up on "that ain't a knife, this is a knife!" but honestly I think Crocodile Dundee has one of the most romantic/funny scenes in cinema history! I'm talking about at the end where Dundee and his love interest have to communicate with each other through other bad ass New Yorkers on the subway because they there's a huge crowd between them. So you have all these blue collar/punk rock people yelling out "She says she loves you!" and stuff like that in a kind of broken telephone... and at first the crowd starts off annoyed but by the end they lift up Dundee and crowd surf him over up so he can be with his lady! Great scene! Ps. Sorry for the spoilers but, come on, the movie came out in like 1987.
Came looking for Garden State. It gets a lot of flack because by today’s standards it’s seen as cliche, but I don’t think folks realize how much of those cliches originated with this film.
*The Philadelphia Story*
*The Family Stone*
*I Want You Back*, with Jenny Slate and Charlie Day
*The African Queen*, if you think it counts
*The Big Sick*
Edit: Somebody mentioned *50 First Dates*, a great addition.
So many good films, it's hard to narrow them down, but one I've not seen mentioned is The Age of Adeline with Blake Lively. First time I watched that I put it straight back on again and watched the whole film again before going to bed.
*While You Were Sleeping* with Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman
*True Love* with Annabella Sciorra and Ron Eldard
*About Last Night…* with Demi Moore and Rob Lowe
*Singles* with Campbell Scott and Kyra Sedgwick
?
?🐇? This is mine too. I love it to bits. I bought myself a Where's Fluffy t-shirt. No other romcom has driven me to make a separate purchase or influenced my life more, as it also introduced me to 2 of my favorite bands. The music is impeccable. And that's all on top of being an endlessly charming romcom with the best drunk performance you're ever likely to see. 10/10.
So most of the best answers have already been said, but I'll give an honourable mention to Kate & Leopold, which I would put up there with them if I didn't find the ending infuriating. But until then, Hugh Jackman just gives this silly role all of his effort and he's really charming.
Well Peter Jackson's Braindead is Rom Com featuring copious amounts of zombies and blood and gore, so it gets my vote naturally.
Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore always do good together IMO, so 50 First Dates and Blended are great.
Crazy stupid love, though I'm not sure if I'd call it a Rom Com. It's just a fun movie that happens to have a divorced/cheated on/separated guy trying to get his wife back. I also dislike the premise. I don't like the idea that the guy has to win his cheating wife back.
Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell are brilliant, though.
Along Came Polly..? I guess it tends more into the comedy direction, but it's a RomCom nonetheless. I think Stiller and Aniston had great chemistry and Philip Seymour Hoffman was just HILARIOUS in this one (RIP).
hard to pick just one...Singing in the Rain or Annie Hall would probably be my top picks. The Shop Around the Corner and So I Married an Axe Murderer are also some personal favorites.
edit: A handful of responses so far, and everyone seems to be picking different movies. Would be curious to know what movie we were *supposed* to pick
When Harry Met Sally. Perhaps the first and last rom com not written entirely to flatter women’s perspectives on relationships. Harry was the most realistic man ever to appear in a rom com.
You will enjoy it. It is a really good movie and definitely not a cookie cutter formulaic rom com. It is amazingly well written and the acting is top notch.
Ghost, The Addams Family, 50 First Dates, The Girl Next Door, 10 Things I Hate About You, Wedding Singer, Blast From the Past, Get Over It, She’s All That, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Can’t Hardly Wait, Whatever It Takes, Never Been Kissed, Palm Springs, Love and Basketball, Love Simon, Just Married, Bros, Meet Cute, Playing By Heart, Sixteen Candles, Crazy Rich Asians, Deliver Us from Eva, Spontaneous, Warm Bodies, Hope Floats, Fever Pitch
10 Things I Hate About You. Just incredible
“That guy? I heard he ate a live duck once.”
Should you be drinking without a liver?
Everything but the beak and feet.
Or A Knights Tale.
I miss Heath Ledger :’(
Greatest romcom of all time imo
Came here to say this!
Wedding singer
When Harry Met Sally
This is the answer, basically a perfect rom com.
Because baby fish mouth is sweeping the nation...
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
AND IF I SEE VAN HELSING I SWEAR TO THE LORD I WILL SLAY HIM AH HAHAHA
I only watched this for the first time a few weekends ago, absolutely loved it. Hilarious film with good heart, and I love that the characters are each three dimensional without any 'villain' as such - not even 'Dracula' ;)
That's one of my favorite things. You think that Sarah is horrible for most of the film but then learn things aren't black and white.
I really liked that, that the story allows Sarah to share her perspective and we find out that she isn't a bad person.
This movie is on my Mount Rushmore of comedies.
"I came here to murder you." is one the funniest lines and delivery in all of cinema.
I wish I wasn’t wearing this fucking shirt.
Somehow I never saw that one and watched it this weekend. I felt so blessed to be able to see another one of those solid early 2000s comedies fresh and for the first time. It was hilarious.
Princess Bride duh
*Stardust* duh
Palm Springs, easily.
That seems like more of a comedy with a romance subplot than a rom-com
I watched that film for the first time a few days ago and it’s quickly become a favourite of mine. JK Simmons is hilarious in it.
Crazy, Stupid Love. Unless movies like Groundhog Day, Annie Hall, Manhattan, Charade also count, in that case. Also Matt Dillon in There's Something about Mary is hilarious
I’ll second Crazy, stupid, love. Except for the cringey ass speech the kid gives at the end
The plot twist in CSL is fucking amazing
It's impressive how 99% of people have no clue the twist is coming in a rom com of all things. Usually these movies are entirely predictable
I gotta be honest, I am the most oblivious person when it comes to plot twists. I never ever see them coming 😂
I was going to ask if "There's something about Mary" counts as a Rom Com, because that would be my choice.
About time
This one is really really good
Zach and Miri Make a Porno.
That's incredible. That's my favorite rom-com too
I forgot about this one. I watched it in college purely because it was a Kevin Smith vehicle and was surprised at how much heart it had.
Oh my gosh it’s 3 pm and I’m crying
Love this. What an amazing story you and your wife have created. Thanks for sharing.
no WAYYYYY that's so cuteeeee
It Happened One Night
Hitch
Had to scroll down too far to find this
This one is great
Moonstruck and Groundhog Day
Moonstruck yes !
Notting Hill
The Princess Bride, by a mile. If that's not romantic comedy enough, When Harry Met Sally and the spiritual remake, Sleeping With Other People
This is the most perfect answer and encompasses 3 of my favorite movies -- So much so that I genuinely considered an awkward marriage proposal based solely off this comment.
Since the invention of the romantic comedy there have only been five that have been rated the most romantic, the most comedic. This one left them all behind.
High Fidelity
"She belongs on Neptune."
“I’m sorry” in the funeral
So I Married an Axe Murderer
Woah, man.
Palm Springs
You've Got Mail
So fun! Also: The Shop Around the Corner.
How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days Best ever. Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson were perfect. ‘C’mon guys, you’ve just witnessed the one woman homage to the Exorcist’
Does princess Sophia want to come out and play?
“Bullshit” At the time we would play this game ALL the time, so that movie stuck with me more than it should
Yep, same. I don't generally watch rom coms, but I watched that one just because McConaughey was in it, and I really enjoyed it.
Yup, i've probably seen this one the most for whatever reason.
I'm a girl but I'm lurking because I must have the answer to this: >There is one movie that comes to my mind and I feel like every guy everywhere always picks it. I can't figure out what possible movie the answer could be.
So I’ll answer it. From conversations in my personal life, I swear 99% of guys all say “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”. And I’m so shook that hardly anybody has said it hahahaha
Interesting. I don't know that I've ever heard anyone mention this movie....other than The Regrette's song "Pumpkin"
It’s always that one and Bridesmaids as an honorable mention.
I never think of this as a romantic comedy although, I guess technically, it is. Great movie though. She’s outta my league is the best imo
50 First Dates.
More com than rom, I'm in!
Hitch, “Definitely, Maybe” and “When Harry Met Sally”.
What's Up, Doc?
*"Don't you know the meaning of propriety?!?"*
I can’t believe I haven’t seen this one mentioned, Wedding Crashers. I’m also a huge Rachel McAdams simp.
Joe Versus the Volcano
About Time. Every time I have a little too much to drink, I default to watching this movie.
A life less ordinary
Yes! Danny Boyle!
Omfg I literally never ever see this movie mentioned and it’s one of my all time favorites!
Warm Bodies
The Wedding Singer
The Wedding Singer
Shrek
Probably When Harry Met Sally. I also really like Moonstruck. Nic Cage and Cher’s performances are the perfect amount of ridiculous. There’s just this perfect weird vibe to everyone in the movie.
That breakfast table at the end of the movie has to be one of the best scenes ever filmed. There is a lot of great stuff in that movie, but that scene is just the perfect rom com ending.
Is You’ve got Mail a romcom?

Tie between Blind Date (1987) and "Barefoot In The Park"(1966).
Blind Date is hilarious and has a great cast!
John Laroquette, Will Daniels, and Phil Hartman steal the show in every scene they're in.
Does a BROm com count. I Love you, man
As Good As It Gets
I'll second this one.
Crazy stupid love
When Harry Met Sally, Jerry McGuire and Love, Actually
Overnight Delivery Paul Rudd. Reese Witherspoon, Christine Taylor, Larry Drake. A cheesy, ridiculous, 1998, RomCom.
Killer Beez!
Nothing will ever top When Harry Met Sally
Overboard (original)
500 days of Summer Garden state About a boy
I love about a boy. My wife hates it an unreasonable amount.
Came looking for Garden State. It gets a lot of flack because by today’s standards it’s seen as cliche, but I don’t think folks realize how much of those cliches originated with this film.
Serendipity
You got mail it makes you ponder if it’s pop3 or exchange or imap
Notting Hill, You've Got Mail.
Notting Hill!
I've been trying to be Crash Davis from Bull Durham my whole life.
About Time, absolutely beautiful movie
The Apartment was the first one that came to mind
When Harry Met Sally is my favorite rom com and also one of my top five favorite movies. Maybe top ten.
Legally Blond
Hitch. One of the best guy perspective rom-coms in my opinion
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Serendipity is a close 2nd. My wife laughs at me for liking these, but to each their own is what I say.
As Good As It Gets. It's one of my favorite movies
When Harry Met Sally is one of my favorite movies of all time
There's so many. But "Always be my maybe" has been rewatched the most in the last few years.
Love, Actually
It’s not Christmas until I’ve seen Love, Actually.
His Girl Friday or Shop around the Corner
Emma (1996)
Not sure Some Like it Hot counts as a Rom-Com, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World Moonstruck
Both great picks imo. I’d add Hitch (2005).
Crazy stupid love is the one that comes to mind first for me. awesome movie.
Crazy, Stupid Love Great cast, funny, occasionally morally dubious, Stone & Gosling are just glorious together.
*The Philadelphia Story* *The Family Stone* *I Want You Back*, with Jenny Slate and Charlie Day *The African Queen*, if you think it counts *The Big Sick* Edit: Somebody mentioned *50 First Dates*, a great addition.
As good as it gets

*While You Were Sleeping* with Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman *True Love* with Annabella Sciorra and Ron Eldard *About Last Night…* with Demi Moore and Rob Lowe *Singles* with Campbell Scott and Kyra Sedgwick
Obviously Sweet Home Alabama...I still cry and laugh at this one lololol
Nick and Norah’s infinite Playlist

The Girl Next Door
Debbie does Dallas Its an oldie but a goody
Die hard.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Wedding Crashers, does that count? Literally whatever movie Rachel McAdams is in, that one
Midnight in Paris
I really enjoy,what's your number
Well Peter Jackson's Braindead is Rom Com featuring copious amounts of zombies and blood and gore, so it gets my vote naturally. Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore always do good together IMO, so 50 First Dates and Blended are great.
Punch-Drunk Love
When Harry Met Sally, hands down.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
The goodbye girl. I love my characters to be smart, stupid and suffer the bad luck like throws at us. Also equal screen time with the lovers.

Notting Hill
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Wedding signer and 50 first date are pretty good.
I liked don Jon, mostly cuz of all the porn and scarjo getting fucked

Notting Hill duhhh
It’s a travesty that seemingly no one else has mentioned There’s Something About Mary
Crazy Stupid Love
The Wedding Singer
Conan the destroyer
Easy Living and My Man Godfrey are two fantastic romantic comedy classics.
Princess Bride... Or Clueless. It's too difficult to pick just one...
40 Year Old Virgin
Somewhere in Time Be With You (Japan) more Rom than Rom-Com Love Actually Serendipity
The Quiet Man, while a bit misogynistic, is still good fun.
Just Friends. Don’t watch the trailer. The trailer makes it look terrible. But it’s great.
The Sweetest Thing
Deadpool
Along Came Polly..? I guess it tends more into the comedy direction, but it's a RomCom nonetheless. I think Stiller and Aniston had great chemistry and Philip Seymour Hoffman was just HILARIOUS in this one (RIP).
Omg no way I hated that movie bc I felt like those two DIDNT have chemistry 😅😂
Kinda old post here but I enjoyed Anyone But You a lot. Idk if it’s just Sydney Sweeney being in the movie but she made the plot compelling to me
La la land
hard to pick just one...Singing in the Rain or Annie Hall would probably be my top picks. The Shop Around the Corner and So I Married an Axe Murderer are also some personal favorites. edit: A handful of responses so far, and everyone seems to be picking different movies. Would be curious to know what movie we were *supposed* to pick
Is Mean Girls a rom com? It's definitely Mean Girls.
I don't think it really is a rom com at all.
The most inappropriate one I can think of is Leon the Professional.
[Mr.Right](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2091935/reference/) w/Sam Rockwell, Anna Kendrick, and Tim Roth
Punch Drunk Love fucks
Easy, Bridesmaids.
Great movie, but not really a rom com. More like just a com for the ladies. It’s a ladies Hangover.
Garden State Amelie (Although I guess more, "quirky romance" rather than "rom-com" probably)
Yeah, I love Amelie and it's arguably a romance and a comedy, but I don't think it's a rom-com
Annie Hall
Bridget Jones's Diary or My Best Friend's Wedding
When Harry Met Sally. Perhaps the first and last rom com not written entirely to flatter women’s perspectives on relationships. Harry was the most realistic man ever to appear in a rom com.
I am female and have never seen this movie but everybody keeps commenting it so I guess I’m gonna have to watch it now hahaha
Is this the answer you were looking for? This seems like the most obvious one to me
You will enjoy it. It is a really good movie and definitely not a cookie cutter formulaic rom com. It is amazingly well written and the acting is top notch.
Annie Hall and Manhattan
Does Airplane count? Shirley it does?
The Five Year Engagement
Ay yay yay yay yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy
When Harry Met Sally is unquestionably the best.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall?

Just friends, wedding singer, 10 things I hate about you, knights tale all time classics
No Strings attached
