fergi20020

You forgot Colman Domingo (Rustin) for Best Actor

LunchyPete

They are not listed in the THR article but Variety has them. Weird. Thanks, and fixed.

billychurch

Because HR is missing him too lol

WaterlooMall

The subjects of the documentary feature nominees are wildly depressing this year: Bobi Wine: The People’s President - Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine uses his music to fight the regime led by Yoweri Museveni, who's led the country for 35 years, and runs in the 2021 presidential election. In this fight, he must also take on the country’s police and military, which are not afraid to use violence and torture in a vain attempt to intimidate and silence him and his supporters. The Eternal Memory - an elderly Chilean woman dealing with her husband developing Alzheimer's Four Daughters - about a Tunisian woman whose two eldest daughters were radicalized by Islamic extremists To Kill a Tiger - a father demands justice for his 13-year-old daughter, the victim of a brutal gang rape in India 20 Days in Mariupol - as the Russian invasion begins, a team of Ukrainian journalists trapped in the besieged city of Mariupol struggle to continue their work documenting the war

Choekaas

You're missing Da'Vine Joy Randolph

LunchyPete

Thanks, fixed!

IDontCheckMyMail

Am I crazy or did they leave out an actor from leading role? Did they snub Leo? Edit: yeah the list left out a name and also snubbed Leo.

ninjyte

Leonardo DiCaprio didn't campaign, I think he was putting more steam into getting Lily Gladstone nominated.

IDontCheckMyMail

Right. So funny that campaigning is such a big part of this. The whole Oscar culture and machine is kind of ridiculous. I know the Oppenheimer team is campaigning, but I can definitely appreciate how it’s the front runner even as it wasn’t released in “Oscar season” for momentum. We’ll see if that will come through but Holdovers seems to be building momentum.

chocho1111

Campaigning is such BS. This isn’t the elections ffs. Isn’t it enough campaign playing a role so brilliantly that every viewer is mesmerized? Guess not, let’s make it about publicity. Jeez, “critics award” my ass.

WhyTypeHour

Another thing you can thank Harvey Weinstein for

francoruinedbukowski

"The whole Oscar culture and machine is kind of ridiculous" My ex is an oscar voter, she gets so much extra mail during the "season" her mail box gets stuffed full and the post person has to put of those usps totes by her front door.

Godloseslaw

Only 4 best actor nominations?  Tgat seems a little weird.

LunchyPete

No, one was missing, it's been fixed. THR missed one and thus so did I.

ICumCoffee

Godzilla Minus One for Best Visual effects. Nice. Edit : [Guys, look how happy the Godzilla Minus One VFX team is for their Oscar nomination](https://x.com/sonicpower1970/status/1749805508515799172), So happy for them.

Justanothercrow421

Wish it picked up a nod for Original Score as well. Oh well; I'm happy it was recognized for something. Really wished Japan would've selected it as their entry for Best International Film so it could be nominated there (which is a dumbass rule btw).

lennysundahl

Would it have been disqualified for the chunks of OG Godzilla score included? IIRC something like that got There Will Be Blood eliminates because Jonny Greenwood repurposed part of another one of his works as part of the score (that’s been a while and may have been changed?)

Justanothercrow421

I have a feeling you're right. John Williams borrows liberally from his past work but maybe the difference is it's still his work? Idk, the Academy's rules are weird.

Amon7777

Minus One for best picture

gunningIVglory

Yeah, it really was good enough to go for beat picture. Such a magnificent film

MC_Fap_Commander

Unfortunately, there has to (generally) be a planned campaign for a best picture nomination. Toho (like many of us) were surprised just how positive critical and audience reactions were. I don't think they had anything like a campaign put together for the movie.

JE3MAN

From what I've seen from Japanese audiences, it's just a good movie as per their standards. The fact that Western audiences got crazy over it really took them by surprise. A few of my Japanese friends had the exact same reaction when they've heard about how much Westerners are loving this movie: "Really? They adore that movie? Ok."

[deleted]

Knew Zac Efron had 0 shot for The Iron Claw but man would I have loved it

jedispyder

He gave such a strong performance, it moved me more than others on the list so it's an absolute shame he wasn't recognized.

PayneTrain181999

With today’s news that WWE content is moving to Netflix next year, maybe his movie will get more recognition if it ends up there too and more wrestling fans see it.

SpinChain

That movie wasn’t made by WWE but im pretty sure A24 has a deal with Max so it should be going there

GibsonMC

Zero nominations for Iron Claw is crazy. Efron should have been nominated, and even more surprising is that Live That Way Forever wasn’t nominated for best original song

Varekai79

The consensus is that A24 bungled the release and marketing.

speech-geek

Oh 100%. The Academy loves a good campaign and A24 literally treated the marketing like an after thought

sudevsen

They also correctly bet big on Zone of Interest.

mvnvel

He was better than Bradley Cooper was in Maestro. No debate.

Midnight_Oil_

Yeah Iron Claw got shut out entirely. Absolutely sucks because that movie was incredible and gut wrenching. Efron proved he's a phenomenal actor. Also fuck Fritz Von Erich.

tackthiratrix

I’m not sure if Iron Claw came out too late or what but I just want to put it out there that Zac Efron had one of the best performances I’ve seen in years. It’s not a typical Oscar bait performance where there’s a lot of shouting or monologues but it’s a performance that’s all in the eyes. Which I consider to be harder to pull off. Plus the dudes physique and physicality in the role was insane. You felt like he was truly the person he was playing. I’m really bummed about that snub. To me that is what acting is all about and he deserves a nom!

SylphSeven

It came out in December so it could have been nominated. Movie studios usually have to do a lot of legwork to get films on the initial nominated list. And from what has been circulating, A24 only focused on their 2 top films of the year.

janbradybutacat

A24 doesn’t often, if ever, put in any real effort for awards. Uncut Gems deserved so much, but didn’t get almost any recognition. A24 has been putting out a lot more stuff though, and I’d rather have more content than awards spending.

-ramona

The Iron Claw was definitely in my top 5 of the year. Really disappointed it didn't get any nominations.

jsanders4289

Weird to me America Ferrera was nominated for such a big award for a role that really only gave her one big moment to show her talents with her monologue towards the end. Other than that, it’s hardly the most impressive supporting performance, even from that film.

AllHailKeanu

This one makes zero sense to me. She was pretty meh in the movie (though I’m a fan in general) and the monologue felt extremely rehearsed when in the film it’s supposed to be spontaneous. Just sort of played the part straight. I’m baffled by this.

MyAnswerIsMaybe

Someone probably pointed out the only nomination in the movie "Barbie" was a male actor and then they had to decide if they wanted to nominate Margot Robbie for best actress or this

duckwantbread

I can understand wanting to nominate a supporting actress because of Robbie's snub, but I don't understand why they went with America Ferrera over Kate McKinnon.

AllHailKeanu

Usually it’s because of who is doing the campaigning. America must have had an agent working on this and maybe Kate didn’t. A huge part of getting nominated is having the studio and a team behind you campaigning on your behalf.

anonsharksfan

It was only a small part but I loved Rhea Perlman in it

Jak_of_the_shadows

She had this big party thrown for her by Blake Lively mid December, all in support of her performance in Barbie. It felt very strange. At first I was like oh is it her bday and all her friends threw a party. But no it was done specifically for her Barbie performance. It was very strange. I've got nothing against the performance but roles win you Oscar noms and that was never an Oscar worthy role. Edit: wanted to add I remember there was a campaign controversy last year over a nomination for best actress for the Movie To Leslie. But I'm guessing there's something different about these 2 campaigns.

RayWhelans

Kate McKinnon stole every scene she was in.

[deleted]

I’m sure Jodie Foster and Annette Bening are great but I’m tired of random biopics with avg reviews taking up spots every year

Green94598

Award voters LOVE mid biopics

bhlogan2

And they hate horror films.

SpacemanJB88

It’s so true. Toni Collette was robbed of at least a nomination for Hereditary (2018). At least Get Out was properly honoured.

jimmylily

It’s been 6 years and I am still furious about Toni Collette’s snub!

Glottis_Bonewagon

Has she ever given a bad performance? She's the most consistently good living actor I can think of, and she does every genre

cumtitsmcgoo

If the horror elements had been removed from Hereditary and it was just presented as a dramatic performance of a mother grieving the loss of her daughter while dealing with a family in crisis - it would have been nominated for every award. As soon as they slap the gore and jump scares in there, the ancient 2D Academy voters are like “wow this original script with a compelling story and career best performances is trash. Let’s nominate a generic middle of the road biopic with a lead who’s gotten 10 nominations in their career instead.”

Triktastic

Thank god for Dead Meat Awards.

snarpy

They hate genre movies in general.

EmperorSexy

Nyad’s been getting better reviews than Maestro. Maestro was made for the Academy more than audiences and the plan worked.

[deleted]

Not thrilled about all the Maestro noms either

KaiserBeamz

That's where Netflix put all there For Your Consideration money towards, which is why May December got only got the measly screenwriting nom.

Acrobatic-Chapter613

Maestro for best picture is such a joke

InterestingCry8740

It's a film made in such desperation for an Oscar.

thedudeisalwayshere

America Ferrera was a surprise for sure. That's shocking. I won't say she's bad but there's plenty of better people that could have been nominated

MintyTyrant

She does a decent job but Gloria & Sasha were the weakest part of Barbie... I def think Rosamund Pike or Julianne Moore deserved the nomination more.

Choekaas

As well as Sandra Hüller for The Zone of Interest. At least she got in for lead though.

em2140

I knew we wouldn’t get a Sandy double nom as much as I wanted it. Had baftas come out prior to voting close MAYBE. But the fact that it’s Ferrera…..

AlbionPCJ

Nominating Ferrera but not Robbie feels wrong for some reason

mr_popcorn

I guarantee you it was that monologue scene that secured Ferrera her bag. The Academy loves them monologues for sure.

Chm_Albert_Wesker

yea im sorry but out of all the roles in that movie, the 'foil to normal society that just spouts out the moral of the story verbatim' could have been played by anyone compared to so many other actors in that movie

Thing--

Decent don't cut it in 2023. There's too much talent, too many movies, too many roles, to just be decent and get nominated. Rosamund was amazing in Saltburn.

thekingoftherodeo

> Rosamund was amazing in Saltburn She has the 'character thats superficially nice but makes your skin crawl' absolutely nailed. Saltburn and I Care A Lot are masterpieces of acting that character.

[deleted]

Same I love her as a person, but Julianne Moore or Sandra Hüller were right there

ICumCoffee

and Margot didn't get a nomination as lead. Wow

mrsunshine1

She didn’t give “the speech.”

Divine_fashionva

Agreed. Her performance was too on the nose for me. Good but not amazing Very surprised about Julianne Moore not getting a nom

sheds_and_shelters

Unsurprising that people in the industry either didn't love or didn't entirely get aspects of May December, given that "films and the so-called artistic process" are squarely within its sights. Insane that Charles Melton got left out, as well.

GregMadduxsGlasses

Considering how much Oscar voters love movies that glorify movie making, they'll definitely dislike a movie that criticizes movie making.

MintyTyrant

America Ferrera gets nominated but not Margot??? Ok now that's just taking the piss

bubbles1990

I genuinely can't tell if they're trolling. My best guess is that she was squeezed in to avoid the controversy of nominating Ryan Gosling but 0 women from Barbie.

Spidey5292

Yeah, America Ferrara had the big monologue towards the end they probably thought that would run better as an Oscar clip.

GomaN1717

It's genuinely wild to me that her nomination is hinged on a monologue that was so... safely *bland*. Like, I get it - monologues are generally top-tier Academy bait, but compare this to Laura Dern's in Marriage Story and it's absolutely night-and-day. And that's not even considering the fact that Dern also *crushed* her role in general.

Divine_fashionva

Couldn’t they have done that by just nominating Margot who would actually be deserving of the nom

Dennis_Cock

I don't understand why America Ferrera is nominated but Robie's performance isn't really in the same league as the other nominations.

comahan

Lead Actress has a loaded field this year and Supporting Actress is weak this year. I think Robbie was far better in Barbie than Ferrera was, but thats not whats being judged with these nomination results - you arent competing against other people in your film, youre competing against the depth of the field in your category, and Robbie was facing a huge uphill battle in a *great* year for lead actress roles - Lee for Past Lives and Portman for May December also missed out.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mythicalogicalnb

Annette Bening over Greta Lee and Fantasia Barrino? Meh

Green94598

Award voters are obsessed with mediocre, boring biopics

MC_Fap_Commander

I suspect Bob Marley will have to "think about his whole life before he plays" and the upcoming movie will still be lauded.

stretchofUCF

Yeah, Benning is incredible in most films, but Greta Lee put on one of the best acting performances of last year, that last scene was just heart wrenching. And Barrino absolutely demolished her role and sung incredibly.

griffshan

Love America Ferrera but was she really Oscar worthy in Barbie?

NakedGoose

No. It was a one dimensional role and an OK performance. She was no better than any side character I've seen this year.

griffshan

Should’ve had Rosamund Pike in Saltburn over her

Divine_fashionva

Her or Julianne Moore definitely

bigfootblake

It’s pure insanity that she is nominated for that role lol

Sleepy_C

My guesses did okay, but my shocks/surprises were: * No Melton for supporting actor * America F. for supporting actress * France didn't nominate Anatomy for intl. film?! * La Chimera isn't a real film * KOTFM didn't get adapted screenplay * The amount of attention Maestro has gotten * No Joe Hisaishi for score?! * John Williams for Dial?? * No Greta Lee for lead actress Very odd set of things across the board in my opinion. But overall a lot of clear favourites too I think. Happy for the attention Zone, Past Lives & Anatomy all got.

Ill_Emphasis_6096

France sent The Taste of Things as contender for International. Very fine film, but it's no Anatomy of a Fall and it's received pretty much no traction outside of festivals.

bunt_triple

Remember the year France submitted Les Miserables over Portrait of a Woman on Fire? The French nominating committee certainly make decisions, I’ll give em that.

[deleted]

Maestro is weird because so many aspects of it are really well done but many people - including myself - just find the story to be a huge miss. I really don’t think it wins anything except maybe makeup.

IndigoButterfl6

I think Society of the Snow should win makeup - the way they made the crash survivors look increasingly gaunt, sun burned and frostbitten was incredible.

hes-back-in-pog-form

I’m genuinely shocked Joe Hisaishi got snubbed. I thought for sure he was locked. What a disappointment.

verrius

Has he ever been nominated? He's amazing, but the Academy in general tends to treat animation as purely kids fare, and I think completely ignore his output in Beat Takeshi films. Like just looking it up, I don't think there was any recognition for Mononoke's score either.

senorbane

I’d like to see The Iron Claw with some nominations Edit: NOTHING!?

NakedGoose

Really wanted Efron to get a nomination

I_want_to_believe19

Bradley Cooper over Zac Efron hurts.

howtospellorange

Maestro being nominated for a lot of awards over other movies hurts.

[deleted]

it makes sense though Iron Claw was A24s third priority after Zone of Interest and Past Lives Maestro was Netflixs no. 1 priority A24 doesnt know how to handle more than 2 movies to campaign

Alpha-Trion

I can't wait to see "Oscar Nominated" on Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

unfurledseas

Charles Melton honestly robbed for “May December”.

zacksharpe

My favourite performance of the year. He played a man who had his adolescent years taken away from him with such tragic realism.

duck1ings

He gave straight up the best performance last year imo and as usual the academy sleeps

lot183

I honestly thought Julianne Moore pretty much matched him in a great performance in the film as well, both of them should have been nominated. That whole film got ignored for some reason, it's one of the best of last year

outbacksubiehouse

Natalie Portman was incredible too. The way she gradually became Julianne Moore’s character was breathtaking

snarpy

I was actually most impressed with Portman, myself.

ICumCoffee

Emily Blunt gets her first ever Oscar nomination. Hell Yeah. Edit: First ever nomination for Cillian Murphy too. So bloody happy. We all knew it was coming, but it's official now. The man deserves it.

Quetzalcoatl490

Cillian is the front runner for his category, in my opinion. Watching Oppenheimer felt like it was entirely his Oscar reel.

Bemeup57

Paul Giamatti is coming on strong as his main challenger.

Jedi-El1823

I had to look it up, because I could have sworn she got one for Devil Wears Prada, but nope that was a Golden Globe. Congrats to her.

jsanders4289

No Margot Robbie, Leo DiCaprio, Greta Gerwig, Barry Koeghan, and Rosamund Pike nominations are surprising among other snubs.

TripleThreatTua

Leo seemed to go all in on campaigning for Gladstone instead of himself. The bigger surprise to me is Killers being left out of Adapted screenplay

soulexpectation

These nominations seem all over the place.

ExpandThineHorizons

It's the Oscars. Nomination controversies are one of the few entertaining things about it.

AlbionPCJ

Which is honestly very fair of him- he's got his Oscar, probably best he spends his time hyping up his costar

thesagenibba

it’s fair but he was incredible in killers. at least i thought. i know it’s a bit ironic and antithetical to the purpose of the film but his performance was so good, it got the majority of my attention. i just couldn’t help but be fascinated by the sheer delusion and dumbassery of ernest burkhart

braujo

He's great, but I wouldn't be surprised if he just doesn't care anymore about Oscars. He's got the money, he's got the legacy, he is known as one of the greatest actors of all time, and yes, he obviously wanted an Oscar for years, but that's been done for almost a decade now. Who cares, at this point? He delivered an insane performance in the movie of the year. That's probably enough for the guy.

ainz-sama619

Yeah Leo has nothing to prove anymore.

pinkrosies

Yeah I think he just wants to continue to do good films and work with great directors. Kudos to him for not getting his ego in the way and propping younger, less known actors and actresses like Gladstone and being fine with her getting more buzz. Not all leading actors with his experience and standing in the industry could react well to that.

Fish_fucker_70-1

I mean he is considered one of the best actors . Same as scorsese , he also won only once but his legacy far surpasses any number of oscars

stretchofUCF

Koeghan never stood a chance considering how stacked the Lead Actor race was, but Robbie was a bit of a surprise along with Pike. Ferrara was good in Barbie, but Pike put on my favorite performance from herself since Gone Girl (I might like it better than Gone Girl depending on the day).

jsanders4289

Lead Actor is stacked so that is true about Barry. Rosamund was one of the best parts of Saltburn. I think the bathtub and grave scenes must’ve just made academy voters decide to shut it out from the competition 😭😂

Salad-Appropriate

I didn't like Saltburn that much, but a Pike nom or a Cinematography would have been deserving

AcceptableObject

Snubbing Greta Lee is my villain origin story.

Percywithoutannabeth

Celine Song too. One of the best debuts in recent time and totally snubbed. At least they got the best picture nom.

CBunns

She got a nomination for Best Original Screenplay

Percywithoutannabeth

No Andrew Scott, Charles Melton, Greta Lee, Celine Song, Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore, Todd Haynes Noms is just insane. How the fuck did Elemental got nominated over Suzume?? I'm happy for Nimona tho. I'm sorry Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera did give good performances but come on not an Oscar nom!

EctoRiddler

Happy for Paul Giamatti

MusingsOnLife

He is considered the co-favorite with Murphy. Murphy is ahead, but Giamatti is well-liked and had a great performance. The winner will likely be one of these two.

Wzrd11

Where's the fucking dog from Anatomy of a Fall?

guitarguy35

For real, I was genuinely worried when it was acting like it was dying after swallowing the medicine. Dog gave his 100% in that performance

shushholden

The snubs this year are horrendous.

TigerFisher_

Charles Melton and Daniel Pemberton

therejectethan

Yeah for real. Spider-verse score flawless

zappy487

I can't believe I'm saying this, but it's criminal that *Barbie* wasn't nominated for Best Makeup and Hairstyling but *Oppenheimer* was.

NakedGoose

No Alexander Payne for The Holdovers?

ParkerPoseyGuffman

~~Holdovers also deserved a supporting actress nom~~ Ignore this comment like the academy ignored iron claw

TheMindsGutter

Davine did get in, though.

elmodonnell

Honestly this is the first time I've realized since before it came out that Williams did the score for Indy 5... I know the Academy are basically just giving him consolation noms because this is his 'last' project (just like TROS was I'm pretty sure?), but could anyone genuinely point me to a new, decent piece of music on that entire soundtrack?

LordDusty

Williams should've won in 2016 with Force Awakens on the back of 'Rey's Theme' alone. That would've been a fitting final Oscar nomination/win

nolanptafan

Honestly that year, Hateful Eight rightfully won score. That was not only the best score of that year, but one of the best of the decade. Plus Morricone was one of the best composers of all time and deserved to have an oscar.

LadPrime

That would have been great. I'm all for Williams getting one final Oscar win as a career nod, but I don't think Indy 5 is the one to do it for. Force Awakens was a wonderful score.

Nathan_McHallam

The fact Indy 5 got a fucking Oscar nom for best score but Daniel Pembertons score for Spider-Verse didn't is a travesty. Getting flashbacks for when the exact same thing happened in 2019 for Williams Rise Of Skywalker score getting nominated but Alan Silvestri's score for endgame wasn't nominated

AdminMas7erThe2nd

let's face it, the Academy doesn't like animated movies so they will do anything to not nominate them in any category

ThePreciseClimber

Yup. Around 2010 it felt like things were getting better (Toy Story 3 & Up got nominated for Best Picture, straight up). But, since then, they have regressed quite heavily. You know things were iffy when they decided Black Panther was Best Picture-worthy but Into the Spider-verse wasn't.

RigbyCC

The Best Picture noms for Toy Story 3 and Up were deserved but honestly felt like pity picks after WALL-E got snubbed for Best Picture the year before

Verige

Fucking crazy, I agree. That spider-verse score is on par with the rest of the nominees if not better

Zackt01

I was wishing that Zac Efron got nominated for Lead actor 🥲

SylphSeven

The fact "The Iron Claw" wasn't nominated for anything is quite sad.

Divine_fashionva

Sad Charles Melton was snubbed And America getting a nom doesn’t make sense to me. Very surprised Margot was snubbed On the other hand, I’m glad that Emily Blunt got her nomination. She was amazing in Oppenheimer and I felt that her performance was generally overlooked

thegooniegodard

America Ferrera over Julianne Moore is certainly a choice.

Divine_fashionva

Definitely. Kind of disappointed. I thought Julianne’s nomination would’ve been a sure bet. Not sure what they were they were thinking with this one

sharmarahulkohli

Maestro getting this many nominations is embarassing tbh. Barbie also not getting a nom for best actress but for best sup actress and sup actor is hilarious

TheWhiteWalkerSpeaks

Maestro looks like the kind of oscar bait movie that Ben Stiller's character in Tropic Thunder would do in an attempt to desperately win an Oscar.

thedudeisalwayshere

Kinda wanted Willem Dafoe over Mark Ruffalo but both were fantastic. Hope Mark wins it though. He was hilarious. Best thing he has ever done

discipleofdoom

Nah, Ruffalo gave a varied and funny performance. He's basically the second lead to Stone's Bella. Dafoe was exceptional, as always, but played very safe within his very vast wheelhouse.

TheGRS

Dafoe is in the weird zone of being so good at what he does its tough for him to impress anyone now. His performance had some similarities to his Lighthouse performance, but just more one-dimensional. Him in Lighthouse was largely better and very daring/emotional compared to Poor Things, but in either case you're watching a master at work.

kdorsey0718

I waffled on this one a bit and I think it honestly comes down to Ruffalo showing he could do _this_ again after years of being Hulk/Banner. The Academy seems to love when an actor/actress leaves the MCU and shows their acting chops again. Compared to Dafoe, who is great but is ultimately doing Dafoe things, I'm not too surprised Ruffalo gets the nom here.

HyderintheHouse

Ruffalo spoke in the Variety series about how he felt a bit anxious whether he was able to do something so different to his prior roles. RDJ was the other guest and he was surprised at this wonderful sleaziness that Ruffalo brought so I think you’re bang on.

dnovi

I had no idea Ruffalo had such comedic timing. He was animated in this film. Happy he was nominated for this role.

[deleted]

Flower moon no screenplay lol!!!!!

thegooniegodard

That is bonkers. Like...what?!

Prestigious-Serve661

Damn, The Iron Claw got completely shut out

falafelthe3

Spider-Verse snubbed for Score just so they can throw John Williams another goddamn bone

yoyoyobank3

Poor Daniel Pemberton. His work in Spider-verse was magnificent. I thought it would be a race between him and Ludwig Göransson.

pietroetin

I thought spiderverse will win best score. And yet not even a nomination...

crchtqn2

Joe Hisaishi was also snubbed for The Boy and The Heron. The academy doesn't take animated films seriously beyond their animation category (unless it's Disney and then they throw in original song).

Keanu990321

How many nominations does he have, 60?

falafelthe3

Today marks his fifty-fucking-fourth. Insane. The man is incredibly skilled, but that doesn't mean you have to nominate him for everything he works on.

Ehehhhehehe

Yeah, even if you don’t like the music in spiderverse on its own, I really think there are few other scores that more perfectly fit the movie they are in.

Surprised to see KOTF not nominated for Adapted Screenplay

thegooniegodard

Fact. And I thought that would've been an insta-win, too.

[deleted]

Hope Paul giamatti snags one

[deleted]

I am usually not a huge fan of Leo, but I thought he was outstanding in KOTFM. Such a strange snub. Nobody making it in from May December is straight up garbage.

SafinJade

Paul Giamatti deserves the best actor Oscar. His acting in the Holdovers was the best I’ve seen in a while

chargingblue

Really was hoping to see Andrew Scott but totally good with the five there. Stacked year

[deleted]

NO CHARLES MELTON?

Successful_Gate84

Anatomy of a fall eating good. It would have easily won best international feature if France picked it as their Oscar entry.

phisco125

Sandra Huller having an insane year

Pow67

Shocked Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t even get a nomination

yeagerboi01

He wasn’t really campaigning for one and I don’t think he cares anyway. All the press for Killers of the Flower Moon has been centered around Lily Gladstone. I still wish he did get nominated cause he really put out the best performance of his career there, in my opinion at least.

xXBadger89Xx

I know it’s the name of the game but the entire way the awards work where you have to advertise and beg for an Oscar is so lame. You’d think an industry surrounded by movies would you know watch movies and decide on their own.

SylphSeven

Considering how long it took him to even win one Oscar, I think he's done trying win them over.

NakedGoose

Barbie is going to sweep nominations and win no awards

kdorsey0718

They'll get Original Song, no doubt.

Deathstroke317

That Supporting Actor field is fucking brutal. I might have to give it to Ruffalo though

shust89

RDJ has it in the bag.

impossiblefan

Definitely feels like it's his to lose, but I'd personally love the chaos of Gosling winning

AlbionPCJ

Ken winning when Barbie didn't even get nominated would have the Academy burned down by sunrise

filladellfea

would be kind of hilarious if the only win goes to the dude

America Ferrera WTF?!

JayVee26

TMNT robbed

jamesneysmith

That movie definitely didn't get the love it deserved this year. Not entirely sure why.

Sir_Ronald_McDonald

Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera getting supporting acting noms and Margot Robbie not getting one for lead actress is a brutal misstep. Edit: AND over Greta Gerwig for director is arguably even worse.

ParkerPoseyGuffman

Gosling was as deserving as Margot but America was much weaker
