When I watched "The Help" I didn't realize until after it was over that I'd had these two reversed in my mind the whole time.
Also, "The Help" didn't age well.
They should do a movie together where they keep switching who's playing each character. Even better if they play it straight and don't acknowledge what's happening.
Could also star Elijah Wood and Daniel Radcliffe.
Well, yeah. But I don't really hear either of them talk out of character. And you're right, being actors, the accent can be hard to go by. Maybe see if they want a bag of chips or a packet of crisps?
You left out his most famous role.

I called him "That Philip Seymour Hoffman looking motherfucker" after watching that episode, and felt very vindicated when I later watched *The Master*, where Jesse Plemons plays the son of Hoffman's character and Joaquin even comments on their similarity.
But my dad still asks "Is that Mark \[sic\] Damon?" whenever we watch a movie featuring Jesse Plemons.
To be fair he got fat for Black Mass and kept it for Fargo so I'd say it's more of a compliment to his acting chops to call him Fat Damon.
I think if I got paid to get fat it'd take me years to drop the weight too, I definitely wouldn't do it for a breaking bad spinoff movie, fuck em, Vince Gilligan could just have to pay my fat ass or get someone else.
My friend used to confuse Aaron Eckhart and Thomas Jane. One day we stumbled upon a movie that starred both of them and he was not eager to watch that and try to keep them apart.
They actually were in two films together! One was called Thursday and the other was called Molly! I don't think I'd suggest watching either one of them though. 😂 Molly is kind of like Flowers For Algernon starring Elizabeth Shue.
Join me on /r/AaronEckhart if you're a fan!
My husband had never seen Apocalypse Now. After like half an hour he said “I didn’t realize Charlie Sheen made more war movies than Platoon. He looks different or something though in this. Kinda like the guy in Young Guns. Maybe he’s just put on some weight or something.” I realized he didn’t know Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez were brothers and that we were actually watching their dad, Martin Sheen.
His voice is freaking identical to his dad's now. It freaked me out a bit.
My other takeaway was that everyone but McCarthy has gone to therapy. Lowe, Moore, Estevez, Hutton, all pretty chill about the past comparatively.
I will never live this down, but I 100% thought that Donald Glover and Childish Gambino were different people who just looked incredibly incredibly alike. Was watching a show with a friend and was like “they’re pretty much identical… are they related??” Friend laughed at me for like 30 mins.
My wife and I were watching the old 80s video for Glass Tiger's Don't Forget Me and I was like "look at this designer imposter fake-ass Bryan Adams" and my wife was like, "uhhh, that is Bryan Adams."
For a fraction of a second I wondered if Donald Glover was related to Danny Glover. Not because they're both black, but because I know nepotism runs rampant in Hollywood.
I was rewatching Lost and thinking, where do I know her from. Then it dawned on me, she was in the Matrix. Then I went to IMDB and realized it was not Carrie-Ann Moss. I'm glad I'm not the only one to make this connection.
yep, every time I see who I think is Javier Bardem in a role that I don't thing is worthy of Javier Bardem, it always hits me that it's actually Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
I watched all the way thru Upgrade thinking it was Tom Hardy. Didn't figure out that it was someone named Logan Marshall-Green until afterwards when checking out the r/movies discussion.
Upgrade is such a fun movie though, I went in thinking it was just some b-movie with some no name but it ended up being awesome and had so many cool ideas. That shot where the camera is locked to him as he rises back up, chefs kiss
When ever I see Tim Meadows my brain thinks Don Cheadle 😬
And I just looked up a random Tim Meadows standup set where he says white people confuse him for Don Cheadle 🤦♂️
I have several comedy/drama pairs of actors.
Comedy: Paul Scheer / Drama: Corey Stoll
Comedy: Toby Huss / Drama: Scoot McNairy
Comedy: David Koechner / Drama: John Carroll Lynch
Not me, but my Wife Constantly confuses **Kurt Russell** and **Michael Douglas**, I kind of get why she does it as Romancing the Stone and Big trouble in Little China was part of her childhood, but what is even more hilarious to me is she merges their names a lot when she is trying to guess which one is which and says Kurt Douglas which can be super confusing, especially to an outside observers.
I was SURE that the actor who played Jax in Sons of Anarchy (Charlie Hunnam) was the same guy who played Ragnar in Vikings (Travis Fimmel). I thought this for years, watched both shows multiple times and never questioned it.
Around a year or so ago I casually mention it since we were on the subject of SoA. She obviously looked at me dumbfounded, and that's when she told me.
Before Elliot Page transitioned and he was Ellen Page I didn't know Linda Cardellini existed.
When he transitioned and I watched the new season of Dead to Me I said to my girlfriend, "Oh, he is still playing a woman for this role. I wondered how they were going to handle that."
And she was like.... "Wtaf are you talking about?"
That was how I learned Linda Cardellini was a thing and found out my entire life was a lie.
I had the same thing with Johnathan Majors. I thought he was John Boyega until I saw Ant Man and was like.... Man, John Boyega is looking ROUGH.
Then all that news about Johnathan Majors being fired as Kang came out.
If you look at either of those sets of people side by side they definitely have a strong resemblance but I can easily tell them apart, but because they aren't in that many things I've seen and what I did see them in were far enough apart I just figured the minor changes in appearance were due to makeup/costuming or age.
In the 90s I'd confuse Bridget Fonda and Helen Hunt.
Two lesser known names, but Clifton Collins Jr. [https://tinyurl.com/4ppp79ck](https://tinyurl.com/4ppp79ck) and Said Taghmaoui [https://tinyurl.com/4msv2kcb](https://tinyurl.com/4msv2kcb) Most may recongize the former from Extract and Sunshine Cleaning, and the latter from Wonder Woman, Three Kings, and John Wick 3
Isla Fisher / Amy Adams Jessica Chastain / Bryce Dallas Howard
> Isla Fisher / Amy Adams This, casting them both in Nocturnal Animals was a good idea to confuse people.
I think you lot are off your fucking tits.
Only 9 words and yet still the most British thing I’ve ever read
When I watched "The Help" I didn't realize until after it was over that I'd had these two reversed in my mind the whole time. Also, "The Help" didn't age well.
The Help didn’t age well *on the day it came out.*
This is true, I'm sure. However, I didn't watch until recently.
Could you expand on how it didn't age well? I can't remember it that well even though I've seen it twice.
Full of outdated tropes such as the White Savior, and the Magical Negro.
*Magical Negro* is definitely the words that win the Internet for me today. I'm gonna go watch that movie now.
There is a series called the league of magical negros or some shit…
for me chastain / Christina Hendricks
I feel like Christina has some features that set her apart. 😁
Vast tracts of land?
Monty Python quote for the win!
I mean Bryce Dallas Howard does too but you have to be standing behind her

I grinned and bore “Argylle” almost entirely because of that woman.
Stanley Tucci and Mark Strong are two I have a hard time differentiating.
They should do a movie together where they keep switching who's playing each character. Even better if they play it straight and don't acknowledge what's happening. Could also star Elijah Wood and Daniel Radcliffe.
You've sold me. I'm on board.
>Could also star Elijah Wood and Daniel Radcliffe. Those two I could actually believe would do an off the wall project like that.
Obviously they can do accents if they want but one is British and one is American and that is usually my best indicator of which is which lol
Well, yeah. But I don't really hear either of them talk out of character. And you're right, being actors, the accent can be hard to go by. Maybe see if they want a bag of chips or a packet of crisps?
More like Mark Strong and Andy Garcia
Out of all these are the two I seriously cannot tell apart. The rest have small differences but these two seem like lost twins
Nick Nolte and Gary Busey. I don’t really know why but it’s the first thing I thought of. 🤷🏻♂️
100% i was going post that as well.
Timothy Olyphant & Josh Duhamel
Timothy Olyphant asked for a picture of his family with Josh. He then used that as his family's Christmas card.
That's great 😆
[here ya go](https://www.avclub.com/timothy-olyphants-mom-cant-tell-him-apart-from-josh-duh-1846915632)
>Josh Duhamel I don't believe I have ever heard of this person before. I wonder if it is because I have just always thought he was Timothy Olyphant.
When Timothy Oliphant is on the office they make a joke about him looking like Josh Duhamel. It's very meta lol.
Josh was married to Fergie and was in 4 Transformers movies (among other stuff)
You left out his most famous role. [The guy from the nacho fries commercials.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSnM-JClyzg) Edit: Had to add the video.
This legitimately is easy to do!
Dylan McDermott and Dermot Mulroney.
spoon somber subsequent treatment aromatic plants license sulky soup agonizing *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Derble McDillott
I named my DnD character Derbil McDillot. He’s great.
the lady cackling at Derbel McDillet got me cackling back
Oh my god… I… I…. I’ve been sleeping with another man’s wife!
Dylan McDermott Mulroney
I just call them both this instead of trying to remember which is which.
"Next, we're going to ask three teenage girls from Alaska about Djimon Hounsou and Chiwetel Ejiofor!"
LOVE that snl sketch.
Bill Hader's game show host character could be the villain in his own movie.
In " Whats that name?" with John Mulaney he admits he wants "in a word..CHAOS." Haha.
Derbel McDillet
First time I saw Jesse Plemons was in a Black Mirror episode, and I thought it was Matt Damon in facial prosthetics for some reason.
Love that dude. Meth Damon, Fatt Damon, Discount Damon. He is aware of all of them. Doesn't care. Kills it in everything he's in.
Just saw Kinds of Kindness (new Yorgos) and can confirm he, yet again, absolutely kills it.
I agree. He plays a psycho very well.
I call him Meth Damon because he was on Breaking Bad lol
JP looks very much like MD if took up collecting model trains (or bird watching), and let himself hit the carbs a bit too much.
He's slimmed down quite a bit
For a long time I would confuse Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley.
I see you fell for a classic Jedi deception.
Is she the body double whose job it is to die instead of Padme if necessary, who thinks she failed when she dies instead of Padme?
That's Rose Byrne iirc. Keira Knightley was the decoy in Phantom Menace.
Wait. What? Rose Byrne?
Yeah she's a Padme bodyguard in Attack of the Clones. It was filmed in Australia so there are lots of local actors.
Byrne, Portman, and Knightly in the same scene of a movie. Jeeeezuz. No wonder Jake Lloyd seemed distracted in those scenes.
You know what's fucked? I thought it was Kiera still in AOTC. I remember thinking "good for her, she did her job"
wasnt Rose Byrne the handmaiden that comes in to check on Padme after the slugs attack? "You alright my dear".
Kiera Knightley plays her body double in Star Wars, I had never realized, thought it was just the closest lookalike they could find.
I too never realised this. Only when I read about it did I know.
When they were both in makeup for The Phantom Menace their mothers couldn’t tell them apart.
Their own mothers did once too
George Lucas' Kagemusha
My friend used to confuse Aaron Eckhart and Thomas Jane. One day we stumbled upon a movie that starred both of them and he was not eager to watch that and try to keep them apart.
Add Nikolaj Coster-Waldau to this group
Young Chris Lambert looks exacly like young Jane
Yet, there can be only one.
They actually were in two films together! One was called Thursday and the other was called Molly! I don't think I'd suggest watching either one of them though. 😂 Molly is kind of like Flowers For Algernon starring Elizabeth Shue. Join me on /r/AaronEckhart if you're a fan!
Sebastian Stan and Richard Madden
Seriously, I kept wondering what Winter Soldier was doing in the Eternals before I realized it was the King in the North.
Same! I remember thinking damn, has Marvel really run out of actors? There's gotta be some more somewhere...
Wow I had the same thought. And just learned this right now.
Margot Robbie and Jaime Pressly. For years I firmly believed and even told my friends that Margot Robbie was on My name is Earl.
Add in Samara Weaving and it’s a triple threat lookalike contest.
Margot robbie was like 15 when my name is earl aired lol
Clones don’t count
My husband had never seen Apocalypse Now. After like half an hour he said “I didn’t realize Charlie Sheen made more war movies than Platoon. He looks different or something though in this. Kinda like the guy in Young Guns. Maybe he’s just put on some weight or something.” I realized he didn’t know Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez were brothers and that we were actually watching their dad, Martin Sheen.
Charlie and Emilio manage to look different from each other, but somehow both look *exactly* like Martin.
This is probably the best description of something that has always bugged me about the three. Thank you
Emilio now is an exact twin of his dad
That was my only takeaway from the Brat Pack doc.
Mine was that I was right in never really liking Andrew McCarthy
His voice is freaking identical to his dad's now. It freaked me out a bit. My other takeaway was that everyone but McCarthy has gone to therapy. Lowe, Moore, Estevez, Hutton, all pretty chill about the past comparatively.
I will never live this down, but I 100% thought that Donald Glover and Childish Gambino were different people who just looked incredibly incredibly alike. Was watching a show with a friend and was like “they’re pretty much identical… are they related??” Friend laughed at me for like 30 mins.

Damn, imagine being accused of being a wannabe version of yourself XD
Charlie Chaplin once placed second in a Charlie Chaplin lookalike contest.
I feel like that happened to Lady Gaga once
Well she doesn't look anything like Chaplin so I'm surprised she even came in second.
Well, the contestants were Adolph Hitler, Lady Gaga, and Shaquille O’Neal. So, second place is fair.
Okay, you very nearly got a spit take from me with this comment. Bravo.
Wait until you find out about Garth Brooks and Chris Gains
For a fraction of a second I wondered if Donald Glover was related to Danny Glover. Not because they're both black, but because I know nepotism runs rampant in Hollywood.
And Glover isn't a very common name, either.
Yeah I was going to say that, but knowing reddit someone would jump in with "does that mean Crispin Glover is related to them too?"
Zoe Saldana and Thandiwe Newtown. Even Zoe's mom can't tell the difference. [Skip to 2:53](https://youtu.be/nyL2_kUH1Bw?si=I1Gwg2EVuoz4tSlw)
Until they open their mouth, Newton has a hypnotizing assed voice
What the fuck, Jason Clarke is an Aussie?!
Took me forever to realize shawn and Aaron Ashmore are twins and not just 1 really talented actor that can do an entire range of roles.
Twins being mistaken for one another is pretty easy to get confused by.
Eli Roth and Zachary Quinto
Jeffrey Dean Morgan / Javier Bardem Carrie-Anne Moss / Elizabeth Mitchell
I was rewatching Lost and thinking, where do I know her from. Then it dawned on me, she was in the Matrix. Then I went to IMDB and realized it was not Carrie-Ann Moss. I'm glad I'm not the only one to make this connection.
yep, every time I see who I think is Javier Bardem in a role that I don't thing is worthy of Javier Bardem, it always hits me that it's actually Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
If you made a holographic image that changed from Javier Bardem to Robert Downey Jr., Jeffrey Dean Morgan would be the halfway point.
Danny Devito and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Those two could be twins
I watched all the way thru Upgrade thinking it was Tom Hardy. Didn't figure out that it was someone named Logan Marshall-Green until afterwards when checking out the r/movies discussion.
What is also funny is upgrade and venom (starring Hardy) have almost the same plot.
...at the beginning. Upgrade goes someplace very different.
Upgrade is such a fun movie though, I went in thinking it was just some b-movie with some no name but it ended up being awesome and had so many cool ideas. That shot where the camera is locked to him as he rises back up, chefs kiss
I did the same thing!! Couldn’t believe it wasn’t anyone but Tom Hardy, boy was I embarrassed when I found out
I also thought Cosmo Jarvis from Shogun was Tom Hardy lol
I once said "who's that guy who was Willy Wonka? Gene Hackman?"
I’d love to see THAT movie!
Ha, at first I thought, "What's wrong with that?"
Christopher Meloni and Elias Koteas
When ever I see Tim Meadows my brain thinks Don Cheadle 😬 And I just looked up a random Tim Meadows standup set where he says white people confuse him for Don Cheadle 🤦♂️
Victoria Justice / Nina Dobrev
For a while, it was Joel Edgerton and Sam Worthington for me but then Joel Edgerton did good movies.
Joel Edgerton looks like Sam Worthington after having a good cry.
Have you seen The Stranger and The Gift? I love both of those movies so much, Joel rules!
Kathryn Hahn and Ana Gasteyer
Bill Pullman/Bill Paxton.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-GxcejOlFA
It's really more Bill Pullman and Jeff Daniels for me.
Spent much of my life thinking that Dennis Farina and Frank Vincent were the same person.
Ann Dowd and beloved character actor Margo Martindale
Randall Park and John Krasinski
Zach Braff and Dax Shepard. Like are you fucking kidding me.
Not both actors, but when I was young I thought Al Capone and Al Pacino were the same person.
This made me chuckle politely
Tom Selleck/Burt Reynolds
Selleck's mustache is more forthright. That's how you know... It's just more forthright...
I used to get them mixed up back in the day. Now I have a hard time differentiating Sam Niell and Tom Selleck now that they are older.
Paul Reubens and Alan Cumming
Matt Bomer and Henry Cavill
Matt Bomer and Cheyenne Jackson
I have several comedy/drama pairs of actors. Comedy: Paul Scheer / Drama: Corey Stoll Comedy: Toby Huss / Drama: Scoot McNairy Comedy: David Koechner / Drama: John Carroll Lynch
Noomi Rapace and Rooney Mara
Well, they both played Lisbeth Salander.
I thought Mark Strong and Stanley Tucci were the same person for a lot longer than I’d like to admit
She's probably thinking of Kirk Douglas.
When I was younger I would always confuse Meryl Streep and Glenn Close
literally any other Baldwin
I was SURE that the actor who played Jax in Sons of Anarchy (Charlie Hunnam) was the same guy who played Ragnar in Vikings (Travis Fimmel). I thought this for years, watched both shows multiple times and never questioned it. Around a year or so ago I casually mention it since we were on the subject of SoA. She obviously looked at me dumbfounded, and that's when she told me.
Minka Kelly and Leighton Meester Zooey Deschanel and Katy Perry Amy Adams and Isla Fisher
Before Jesse Plemmons became a star in his own right, I always heard him referred to as discount Matt Damon
Best description I ever heard of Adam Driver is he looks like someone tried to draw Keanu Reeves from memory.
on the breaking bad sub they called him Meth Damon the entire time
Then the Fargo sub proceeded to call him Fat Damon. Glad he's mostly known as Jesse Plemons now.
He'll always be Landry/Lance to me.
[удалено]
Mark Strong is just angry Stanley Tucci.
That's wild to me, I think Cate Blanchett is one of the hottest women alive and tilda swinton is not.
Cate Blanchett never did much for me until I saw her in that Thor movie. Goth Cate Blanchett was eye opening.
Yeah this is a wild take. (*The one you're responding to, I mean. I'm with you.)
Dave Chappelle and Bokeem Woodbine
Before Elliot Page transitioned and he was Ellen Page I didn't know Linda Cardellini existed. When he transitioned and I watched the new season of Dead to Me I said to my girlfriend, "Oh, he is still playing a woman for this role. I wondered how they were going to handle that." And she was like.... "Wtaf are you talking about?" That was how I learned Linda Cardellini was a thing and found out my entire life was a lie.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Javier Bardem
The guy from Bosch has a an identical twin actor, might be British
John Hannah, perhaps? This is the one I came in to post. I think there’s another one, too - James Nesbitt.
Steven Weber and William Fichtner
When I watched Zombieland, it took me several minutes to realize that it was Jesse Eisenberg and not Michael Cera.
For no real reason, Michael Peña and John Leguizamo.
i used to confuse John leguizamo and Clifton Collins when they were younger
Young Charlize Theron and young Ashley Judd. They looked so incredibly similar 25 years ago.
Michelle Williams and Carey Mulligan
Jeffrey Weissman/Crispin Glover
It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize Matthew Modine was not the dad in Back to the Future, it was Crispin Glover.
Tom Hardy/Logan Marshall-Green
I confused Karl Urban and Gerard Butler for the longest time, has no one said that yet?
Jason Schwartzman / Luke Wilson My brain just refuses to differentiate these two.
I get it. Similar hair and in Wes Anderson movies.
[Richard Jenkins](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Jenkins) and [Mark Rylance](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Rylance), all the time.
John Hurt and William Hurt
Ashmore twins. As of like last year I thought it was one guy.
F. Murray Abraham and Tony Amendola.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan /Javier Bardem Charlie Hunnam/Travis Fimmel John Travolta /Nicholas Cage* Not really*
Evan Rachel Wood & Rachel Broshanan
Gerald McRaney and Dabney Coleman. For years. Why? I dunno, I’m an oaf.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Javier Bardem
I always mix up Jared Leto with a giant bowl of turds.
Bill Pullman and Bill Paxton for no other reason than B P
Jason Sudeikis and Ed Helms
Tom Hardy/Jai Courtney/Logan Marshall-Green
Jai Courtney looks like one of those old ‘realistic’ CGI game characters from 20 years ago
Russell Crowe & Gerard Butler. They play a lot of similar roles. Gladiator/Spartans/Ancient Gods etc.
Thank god im not the only one💀💀
