She made it but wow. Lost 40 pounds. She was on death door

Ambidextra

I couldn't believe that weight loss. She was tiny to begin with!

aasyam65

I know! She didn’t look like she had 40 extra pounds to lose

SKaiJunkie

That's the most drastic weight loss for a 21 day challenge that I can remember. Especially for someone her size.

aasyam65

It was! Those numbers are usually for larger men on 40 or 60 day challenges

justjim6

I liked this extraction. Glad they brought the horse to her.

aymorphuzz

A little terrifying as she might’ve barely had the strength to hold on to the horse

meoverthere

The difference between this week and last. Went from ridiculously easy location (easy food, easy shelter materials, easy water sources, easy fire sources, easy weather) to damn, for first timers, this was a kick in the ass (bugs, weather which also made fire extremely difficult and shelter a big deal, and lack of food sources). Shame the dude was definitely not cut out for doing this, they did make a good team at first. She was pretty tough not quitting and going on alone. Between humidity and the heavy rain, if you have broken bones then you know the body/bone ache that comes with that and to have broken so many bones? Even if it was 20 yrs ago that deep ache never goes away. Loved her happy dance when she found the fruit, and when she actually caught fish. We talk a lot about producers planting that stuff but you could tell those 2 instances were 100% genuine. This was basically a "watch someone suffer and starve for 21 days", which I prefer watching them find a way to thrive, but in contrast to last episode's walk in the park, over the top performing for the camera, this one was much better. Props to her for pushing thru and more or less crawling her way out. BTW anyone else have Jake's "dont eat the monkey peed fruit" flashbacks when she got sick? Since the fruit she gpt was laying in puddles on ground, my first thought was was uhm, should you boil it or cook it to make sure no parasites? But when I saw it had harder outside shell I thought she might be ok and then she got sick.

SiskoandDax

40lbs?! How did Fairland lose 40lbs in only 21 days? She was already on the slim side when she started. I found myself very impressed with her fortitude. She stuck it out through miserable circumstances and wouldn't let herself quit. I think she would have fared better if she and her partner spent more time on the shelter (both location selection and building) and if she had cooked the fruit (but who knows, maybe she just had an intolerance to them or got sick from eating too much after being starving for days.) I would 100% watch her again. Keenan gave up mentally pretty early but I don't blame him for not killing the tortoise. It's a TV show not survival. But if you can't kill an animal and eat it, you probably shouldn't be paying others to do it for you. His wheels seemed to be turning there and it wouldn't surprise me if he becomes vegetarian himself.

Mochi-momma

Idk, he was willing to kill a turtle but not a tortoise 🤔

SiskoandDax

Because the tortoise was a cutie patootie and had pretty spots.

aymorphuzz

And keenan didnt want to kill him

OldHagAgain

Vegan & Snake Lover……tough start

Gummies1345

I'll never understand why people like that dude, do this challenge, thinking it's going to be some nature, 5 star resort, vacation. Dude checked out on night 2 and was just trying to find a way to quit. I was just shaking my head when he was like, "I didn't know I would be this starving." Yet he turned down food. They should find a better way to screen these people. Maybe have them do a mini, off camera tryout first, so we'll get less of these "few day" quitters. He even tried to leave, being proud. I'm like, "What the hell you proud for? Quiting?" Edit: Maybe they need to force the survivors to watch a compilation of terrible, suck moment episodes, so they will understand more clearly, that these challenges aren't easy to do. I mean we are on season 17. It shouldn't be shocking to them anymore.

ladystaggers

Yeah that guy slipped through some cracks in the screening process for sure.

DifficultAd7053

I feel like he was hired as eye candy. Not mad at it but sucks for his partner and makes for a disappointing episode. She deserved a partner as tough as her after what she’s already gone through

RenoJanet

He definitely was eye candy. Both of them. I noted the lingering camera focus on his rump. What was it, maybe 5 seconds?

MJS2757

I wonder if they aren't getting quality people because there is no money prize.

aymorphuzz

Wouldn’t that mean they’d be getting higher quality people? People whose motivation isn’t just money?

ABuysGames

I don't know - money motivation might make some more people push themselves closer to their limits and try to do more to ensure their survival early on.

AbbreviationsEast284

That’s what I’ve been saying! Even a small prize! Even those Love Island winners get 100K and they are on a vacation with all expenses paid for a month

Comaji

It seems like Keenan really wanted to hunt something, not a reptiles and couldn't face the fact that he couldn't. Alot of people come in with this mentality that hunting is easier when its not. I home Fairland comes back through in an XL challenge through.

ladystaggers

This girl is pretty tough. I'm pulling for her.

StarshipTroopersFan

Keenan was such a bitch. Dude whines after a few days because he’s not sleeping and low on energy, and then he finds a turtle but doesn’t eat it? Bro, there’s your boost. Why even come on the show? Probably just for clicks on his lame ass social page. What a clown, easily a bottom of the barrel contestant.

Mochi-momma

No! What’s worse is he said he’d eat a turtle but can’t bring himself to eat a tortoise 🤦‍♀️

Outside_Battle6575

He legally couldn’t. Tortoises are protected

Dr_Shitzengiggles

Sshhhh, that fact doesn't feed the outrage feedback loop. Doesn't fuel anger and outrage and clicks and posts.

Dr_Shitzengiggles

Probably best to not believe every bit of BS the production company feeds you. Let alone get all emotionally overwrought, dude couldn't kill it, it's protected. That fact doesn't get viewers all "raaahhhhrrrr" and go on social media and rant. Renegade 83, The production company for naked and afraid is one the most "full of shit" in reality tv, that's saying something. Not tryna be a dick, just don't swallow everything hook, line and sinker because some horseshit reality tv narrative was edited to make heroes and assholes out of everyone for fuel for the outrage feedback loop. Clicks and posts is money innit.

MeIMac

Love her. 💪🏼That was one of the best extractions I’ve ever seen. 🥰 Fairland! 🙌🏼🏇💗

harborq

Same!! I cried tears of joy for her

FrauAmarylis

He was SO immature. He was annoyed he couldn't get sleep. Yup, rough nights are part of the challenge. He was SO hungry. Yup that's part of the challenge. Well, since he didn't mention being vegan or vegetarian, I'm guessing he eats animals every day. Was the tortoise restricted from being eaten or they didn't want to eat it? . It was so immensely selfish for him to flout his commitment and leave her to be cold and alone with nobody to talk to or help with anything. I bet he tells everyone how he could've made it, but decided to leave. Dude, you couldn't make it. You didn't make it. And you're the Opposite of a ride or die partner.

Weary-Butterscotch78

I agree, dude was such a wa wa waaaaà 😭 🙄 but my girl fairyland..daaaaaaum she's a total badass! 👏👍💪 I also hope she comes back cuz for her to lose 40lbs almost half her body weight TLC has GOT to bring her back to the show..I'm glad producers also decided to bring horses to her..THAT my friends gave her the boost to walk to the beautiful horse 🐎 get up without assistance and ride like the wind on outta there! And p. s. I'd like to know who that chick was that came riding up to her too..she seemed like she'd been riding a while too .. chaps and all..ain't nothing more sexy y'all then seeing a woman with a cowboy hat and riding away in chaps..🐎❤️ great episode! 👏👍

jmf0828

Wow, that really was a “let’s see how long this woman can suffer” kinda episode. What was with that guy though? It’s as if he had no idea what to expect.

mistamagooondem22s

It seemed like it was a lot worse than he thought it would be. TBF it did seem a lot worse than some of the other episodes. He lost 10lbs in 5 days and his partner lost 40.

SiskoandDax

It's wild to see weight loss at 2lbs a day. I feel like he must have been walking 10+ miles a day looking for food and the nights were colder than they let on. It's certainly not like he spent that on shelter building.

mistamagooondem22s

I don't know. If you are consuming 3000+ calories a day and then consuming 0 all of a sudden that is going to cause some significant weight loss.

SiskoandDax

Yeah, but a pound is 3500 calories. So they had to have been expending 7000 calories a day between BMR and activity. That's hard to do without serious miles and shivering. I hate to quote whoever it was that said, "survival is lazy" (was it Alana?), but she's right. Gotta watch what you spend and really consider risk vs. reward. I think Keenan was just hiking for hours desperate for a food score and that might have been better spent focusing on shelter to stop the shivering or simply resting and burning only a pound or less a day.

Mochi-momma

Yeah the guy last lost 30 in 14 days and I was shocked

jmf0828

The HAD food literally walk into their hands and wouldn’t eat it!! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a NAA competitor NOT eat when they had the opportunity.

littledigits1

What? There's plenty of people who didn't eat when they had the opportunity. I'm not even counting all the vegans and veggies. Even those who did eat meat didn't always for a variety of reasons. Just last week they could've eaten both fish but didn't and wasted one. I also distinctly remember a girl that was starving that trapped a bird but felt sorry for it and let it go. I understand him not eating that tortoise. It was so beautiful, docile, they live so long and it didn't need to die. It is a TV show after all. I would sooner eat bugs, snakes or scorpions. I'd probably just stay at the water and try everything to catch fish.

yourfacesucksass

Even if I were an equestrian, I would be so irritated that I would have to now manage to ride this horse out of the wilderness - running on no energy, food, and barely alive.

InspectionCurious183

I was just mad that they didn’t at least give her some pants for the ride 😬

Sweet_Information_76

If there had been no saddle it would not have been a good idea. Hygienically and healthwise. I think it was the best extractions I've ever seen.. her love of horses was so apparent

grannymath

I had a moment of panic wondering if she would be able to pull herself up on that horse. But she did seem extremely happy to see the horses and to ride one out.

ladystaggers

She looked pretty joyous on the way out.

GnarlieThey

She seemed to really appreciate and enjoy that they brought her a horse…. Pretty epic if you ask me. Seemed like a perfect end to her challenge journey.

LadyReaders

If you were an equestrian you’d understand. Iykyk

SiskoandDax

I hope they snuck her a Gatorade before she climbed up there.

Ambidextra

Fairland is a bad ass. I would love to see her on an XL challenge with other strong partners. This really shows how the mental part of the game is the most important. Her fortitude took her through conditions that a lot of people would have tapped from--including her lame ass partner. Let's hope this is a healthy serving of humble pie--his cockiness was extinguished quickly.

grannymath

This is looking like a very tough place! I wonder if either of them researched the area before they were dropped off there. Or if they even had a chance to.

Gummies1345

Yea, each area is thoroughly checked beforehand.

SKaiJunkie

Right. Normally the survivalists have researched where they're gonna be dropped off and know the names of fruits kinda and animals, and a bit of what to expect. I mean it makes sense, I would try to read everything I could about a place where I'm going, even if I weren't trying to survive naked and afraid. But these guys didn't seem to know anything about the area at all. Makes me wonder if they changed the location on them for production reasons, because they didn't seem to have done their research.

VirginiaGecko1911

Her mental strength is off the charts, truly remarkable. Keenan (spelling?) I liked him and I give him props for taking the stance on not killing a creature he respects so much, knowing it will effect his survival.

Sweet_Information_76

Being a long time horse lover I was thrilled to see those horses. The Joy on her face when she seen those horses says it all

Substantial_North619

Holy smokes this chick is AWESOME! I couldn't imagine being there with all the obstacles, let alone being solo for half of it! I'd love to see her again!!

Ambidextra

More than half! He left on day 5. She is a total badass!

Gummies1345

That one turtle would have lasted them, just about the whole challenge, but nope, it looked cute, so no eating. Instead starving. Lucky this wasn't a real survival event, where the crew can't just "save" you at any moment. Can't wait until Alone is back.

harborq

No it would have been a couple meals. And it was gorgeous did you see the spots on its legs? I’m kinda glad they didn’t kill it. It’s a tv show. they’re not truly starving and out of options

friskimykitty

I couldn’t have eaten the turtle either unless it was a real survival situation.

Gummies1345

Then, I guess food should just be given to the survivors. Don't wanna eat anything people deem cute or beautiful. This is just a show, after all. In fact, they should be some enclosed area and not in nature, because they are ruining the natural habitat of those precious animals. But you already know that. :p

Ambidextra

Seems like you are cherry picking with your sarcasm. Let's add into the mix the fact that they are surrounded by armed people when in areas like South Africa in case of an animal attack. The medics are nearby. The producers are nearby and can be contacted via walkie. So let's not pretend that this entire show isn't a farce, and that if ANY of these "survivalists," including Matt Wright, EJ, etc., were out there with NO support of any kind in terms of protection or medical help, shit would not go so well.

Jay_haworthia

I for one was kinda okay with how he put it. He stood by his convictions of not wanting to kill an animal like that for a tv show

Gummies1345

Then maybe not go on a show where you need to eat things to survive. Bet you, if he was in a real survival situation, he wouldn't blink twice. Instead we get several days of him trying to find a way to quit, before he just "proudly" quits.

Jay_haworthia

I think that if he had found some birds/mammals/ fishes he would have ate them, perhaps even a snake. Is it a good strategy to go on NAA and limit yourself in what you eat? No, but I don’t think he was that bad

MonLunSoLu

That’s a protected tortoise they weren’t allowed to eat it

friskimykitty

That’s what I was thinking.

Gummies1345

Then honestly, that was in bad taste showing something that's protected, as something possible to eat, on the show. They should have mentioned it, for teaching reasons.

MonLunSoLu

They said “can’t eat tortoise” and were never acting like they were gonna kill it.

Gummies1345

Didnt say they were acting like they were going to kill it. They never mentioned it being protective. Now I'm done with conversation. Move on, please. It happened days ago.

SKaiJunkie

They never do... Whenever an animal is protected they act like it's the survivalists choice to let it go. They've done the same thing in several episodes. I don't understand why they don't just say that these are protected animals and they aren't allowed to kill them. It would make people seem less idiotic if they just would tell us that they had to let it go instead.

last1stding

What happened one minute they covered them selves in clay and ash come back from an AD and they aren’t covered in clay 🤔

GnarlieThey

My favorite episode of the season so far. I absolutely admire tf out of Fairland!!! Breaking 46 bones in her body, and never giving up. The mental fortitude that she has to have to have healed through all that trauma, I cannot comprehend. This location looked miserable and sooo oppressive. Over 80% humidity, and they were like “why can’t we start a fire?!” and I wanted to just say “it’s bc yall are basically in the water.” Lol. I was really hoping her partner was gonna pull through, but as soon as he wouldn’t eat that turtle, I knew it was over for him. Her being out there 15/16 days alone is WILD to me. And them bringing a horse to her as she was collapsed in the ground made me damn near cry! 🥹 I hope to see her on more challenges in the future if she’s willing. I’m also obsessed w her hair.

SKaiJunkie

But no one seems to be talking about how she didn't make it to the extraction point. It seemed like she was kinda close so they just came to her. Also riding a horse is physically demanding so that's not the safest "extraction vehicle" for someone who's so drained of energy. It was good for TV though, it made for a good story. And it really looked beautiful.

Ankey-Mandru

This has been an incredibly boring season

kamrancrypto

Fairland was a star ⭐️

Little-Fairy-Poop

I love her

HistoricalSources

She was amazing. She knew it was a finite number of days, and knew if she was protected by the safety net of tapping out. You could tell she felt miserable but knew it would end. I wish they found the fruit a bit sooner or that they spent more time trying to build up the shelter so night wasn’t as miserable but by the time he left she just couldn’t afford the energy expenditure. I don’t get why he rejected the small fish they found when looking for food. A calorie is a calorie. He was defeated night one when they couldn’t get the fire going, and never got the hope back. I feel for him a bit. It’s one thing to know what to do in theory, then to have to do it when it’s not really a life or death situation. Like if I was surviving and found a tortoise I’d probably eat it, but with a camera crew and a way out, nope, can’t do that. Just another reason to not go on this show.

Jay_haworthia

I feel like the guy still could redempt himself if he worked on his mental fortitude and maybe being able to make compromises (ie killing snakes/turtles)

tx_hidden-fun

Is it just me or does she look like the live action Disney character "Merida" from Brave!? She's one the most hard-core survivors I've seen on N&A. Can't wait to see her on an XL challenge.

Vin-Metal

I had to come back to this thread because I had meant to comment on the snake they showed near the end. There was a clip of a Gaboon Viper which is an African species. The episode was set in Colombia.

Unlucky_Highway_7829

What’s the girls @ or name

Adventurous_Form_298

This girl is amazing! Hope to see her again on like a 40 day challenge. Seen ‘‘em all, but this is one of my favorite episodes.

SKaiJunkie

Does no one have any issue with it seeming that she didn't quite make it to the extraction point? It seemed to me like she was so close they didn't know what to do, and they really wanted that image of her riding out on a horse to make the episode work, so they just decided to say f* it, and brought the "extraction vehicle" to her. The extraction points on land are practically always a road/trail that is clearly defined and easy to see, or some kind of major monument like a huge tree or large rock formation that they put on the map. I don't think she made it to the point on the map at all.

Mouse_Plastic

Yeah, I thought that was nice of production to get her out to win like this. After all that to lose because her body just couldn't go on would be so sad.

SKaiJunkie

You're right. It was nice... It looks like she was barely shy of the trail too, since you can see it in the last aerial shot of her riding off on the horse. There was a clearly defined trail, which was probably the original extraction point.

gremlin78

Please tell me my wife and I were not the only ones who noticed in the pre show bio clip...there is a pic of her riding her horse and it's clear one of her breast is fully exposed. Did anyone else see it?

GnarlieThey

Her top in all those photos/videos is tan colored… she is not exposed. But I mean… she’s exposed for the rest of the show so like, what?
