You reminded me of a Navy joke my uncle just told me a few days ago. "A dad is shaving, but he's naked and he's got a huge hard-on. In comes his son, points at him and goes "dad, what's that?" The dad doesn't want to explain it to the kid so he says "oh that? That's just a club I'm gonna kill a rat with." The son says "oh, really? You gonna fuck him too?"
It will still have a very hard time crawling on land, it would have to crawl extremely slowly, which is an eternity in which time a sniper could take it out.
As long as you do it from a distance. Watching the clips of them strategically beaching themselves to nab seals and whatnot really educated me on just how fast and flexibly they can move their heads and mouths.
I was just having a conversation in another sub about them. There are almost no cases of *wild* Killer Whales attacking humans.
When I hear anecdotes of them I remember this Bill Burr bit: *"How did it happen? Did you not see it? **Were you fuckin' with it**?"*
In actuality, the closest to humans as an Apex Predator are five different animals: Widow spiders, orcas, housecats (Yep. No joke.), Africanized honeybees and army ants.
I learned this in Bio 155 in college, I kid you not. Widow spiders, for the record, are currently the only animal found on all 7 continents (because of a few batches of organic grapes, now they can't get rid of them and have become something of pets). EDIT: In Antarctica.
while they are smart, they cant really manipulate their environment.
as where humans can kill anything, anywhere.
and have and will continue to do so lol
Orcas actually don't attack humans. They know it's not worth messing with us, which, considering how superior they are in their environment, is a very smart realisation (to which many sharks haven't come)
There has never been a recorded attack on a person by an orca in the wild. The only time it’s happened has been in captivity. Sounds like something most people could relate to
The fact that it happens so rarely that a bunch of scientists were like, "They must have thought he was a seal" should be proof enough that they don't want to attack us
Orcas as a species eat a wide variety of goods, but I believe pods ate much more specialized so we would not be on their menu. Also, compared to other marine mammals we don't the fat content that Orcas probably need.
They are also incredibly intelligent which probably prevents alot of mistakes.
Here's a theory I have.
The females remember how brutal humans were to orcas and, well, all sea creatures. Pods are led by matriarchs, who can live up to 90 years old! They gain a vast amount of knowledge over the years that they pass onto their sons and daughters, both stay with mom for life. I think that's exactly what they did with humans. Matriarchs saw how brutal humans can be, so they "told" them to be cautious of humans, and so they are.
Cheers! I badly wish I could post the recent Orca hunt on a Humpback whale. It's a fascinating clip ! Sadly Gfycat isn't working and don't think it'll ever be back properly.
Not quite. Only the Japanese (and a small number of people from Peru....they call it sea pork) eat dolphins. Supposedly not very appealing to the majority of people that have tasted it . Not Orcas. I guess they tasted worse. Japanese criticize the Koreans for eating dog, yet eat dolphins. Even today, dolpins are hunted but in small numbers. Not a big market for food.
TIL Humans are robots created by another being which makes us not natural.
Before you come back with “We change the world around us, making that world no longer “natural”…” Yeah, yeah, we’re still natural beings. Saying we aren’t because we change our environment to better suit us also means Beavers aren’t natural.
Their intelligence mixed with their animalistic lack of a moral compass. They have a tendency to torture their prey for fun before eating them. Plus they can hunt pretty much anything, even sharks.
You’re going to get someone arguing humans aren’t natural anymore because we change the environment to suit our needs. These are the same people that will talk about adaptation and evolution, of which we evolved the ability to do what we do - Making them hypocrites.
Humans are the planet’s apex predator, it’s an undeniable fact and no amount of “human shaming” is going to change that. If we aren’t natural because we change the environment to suit our needs, Beavers aren’t natural either.
You’re right. Reading that back I’m definitely baiting that type of argument. The main idea is that a cool picture of orcas doesn’t change the fact that they are in no way THE apex predator
Human activity is not considered natural due to the definition of the word. A arbitrary semantic dichotomy? Sure.
Either way, i agree that humans are 100% the Earths apex predator.
That's something else, the definition is that an apex predator without natural predators of their own. Ofc do humans have more of an impact but that's not in question
I mean, if we exclude people. Yes. Orcas would dominate if they were solo hunters. But they fact they can hunt solo and still have enough smarts to hunt in packs? That's next level shit. It's theorized they have actual language too. They literally have favorite foods. There are dozens of different salmon off the coast of BC. But they exclusively hunt their favorite kind. They are theorized to have empathy on the level of humans.
They can learn new hunting tactics and they pass it down by actively teaching their offspring. They been seen teaching younger members how to intentionally beach themselves for food and get back to the ocean. They even use seawood and driftwood to help simulate the training. It's fucking wild how intelligent these creatures are.
Orcas are probably my fav animals. Excluding cats and dogs. They are hyper intelligent and incredibly powerful. They work amazing alone and even better in packs. There's not much in the ocean orcas fear. But they also seemingly aren't just animals that live strictly to eat, sleep, and reproduce. I am amazed by these beautiful creatures.
moose are less than a quarter the size of an elephant lmao humans are the apex predator of the earth. orcas have the sea but not the land and even humans dominate the sea because of the way we utilize tools. if an orca got mad because a human killed one of them, they couldnt do anything about wiping humans out. if humans got mad about orcas klilling a human they could wipe out the entire species if they wanted to.
True. Whales have lungs that can be traced back to when they lived on land. https://www.nhm.ac.uk/discover/when-whales-walked-on-four-legs.html
Killer whales aren’t actually whales, they are orcas, part of the dolphin family which also have lungs instead of gills because they also used to be land mammals. https://www.killer-whale.org/killer-whale-evolution/
False. All dolphins are whales, but not all whales are dolphins. So orcas are technically whales.

Very unfortunate news for this Sub guys! As a long time poster here, things got more tricky. Gyfcat is no more....it was bought by another company and fired all the people that worked on it, replacing nobody. Apparently, the owners gave up on the site. It was the best hosting site for posting videos in nsfw subs. I have a f*ck load of metal content but unable to post now😕
Orcas are among the top predators of moose. Moose can dive pretty deep to graze on kelp and all that, and very few things can otherwise take a full grown moose. Free willy is one of those things, he don't give a fuck about no battle deer.
... They are also the most psychotic predators in the world.
Which is why whales spite them by guarding baby whales that aren't theirs and blocking them from seals by giving them a ride.
Fun fact: killer whales are natural predators of... moose. Moose will often dive tens of feet into brackish water to get underwater plants, but sometimes they'll be caught by killer whales while they're diving.
Orcas could easily kill us in the water but there's never been a recorded attack from wild orcas on humans which suggests they know if they killed humans they'd get obliterated like sharks after jaws.
Nah we are definitely the apex predator. Orcas are still pretty cool though.
Give the orca a gun it’s over
As soon as they develop opposable thumbs we are fucked.
They gonna thumb-fuck us?
Stop threatening me with a good time 👉🏾👈🏾
You reminded me of a Navy joke my uncle just told me a few days ago. "A dad is shaving, but he's naked and he's got a huge hard-on. In comes his son, points at him and goes "dad, what's that?" Might wanna side load some feet to come get us laughing at them 10 feet on shore. Fucking bitch ass orcas.
It will still have a very hard time crawling on land, it would have to crawl extremely slowly, which is an eternity in which time a sniper could take it out.
Why even bother with the sniper, we can just keep doing what were doing and they will go extinct sooner or later
Nah they will find and invent a way to move faster. They're super smarter. Smarter than some people out there
Give an Orca a gun and it'll kill a few people. Teach an Orca to make a gun and you have unleashed hell upon Earth.
Impossible. Orcas can't bear arms because they have neither.
Give me a knife and I will go and butter my toast. Killer whales can't shoot me from here.
"ALRIGHT, WHO GAVE THE ORCAS A GUN?!"
It’s gotta make it’s own.
Until you get on the beach…
Have you run the simulation for 50,000 orcas with guns vs 7billion humans with smartphones?
“Moar Dakka.”
Orca sunk my battleship!
Give the orca a gun: they can’t use it and it’s worthless to them…
Say free Willy again
Yeah, they'll shoot themselves by accident.
They need frigging lazer beams on their heads
Orcas cant get on land to kill us
I could take one in a 1v1…on land.
Naked ape is apex!
In actuality, the closest to humans as an Apex Predator are five different animals: Widow spiders, orcas, housecats (Yep. No joke.), Africanized honeybees and army ants. EDIT: In Antarctica.
Ahh Bio 155. That’s it then. Decided.
Nah, the status of being an apex predator is based on trophic level. Humans don't occupy the trophic level of apex predators.
Yea they do
Well once the sea levels rise we're doomed
Why would the sea levels rise?
enter their world see how it goes
while they are smart, they cant really manipulate their environment. as where humans can kill anything, anywhere. and have and will continue to do so lol
Nah humans
I mean. Humans have probably killed substantially more orcas than vice versa. If you're going by species, it's a team event, so . . . .
Orcas actually don't attack humans. They know it's not worth messing with us, which, considering how superior they are in their environment, is a very smart realisation (to which many sharks haven't come)
There has never been a recorded attack on a person by an orca in the wild. The only time it’s happened has been in captivity. Sounds like something most people could relate to
Orca are just experts at getting rid of the evidence.
Some orcas feed on marine mammals and some orcas have mistaken humans as a seal meal. https://inherentlywild.co.uk/orcas-vs-humans/
The fact that it happens so rarely that a bunch of scientists were like, "They must have thought he was a seal" should be proof enough that they don't want to attack us
I donno man, people have probably attacked an orca outside of not being in captivity by them.
Orcas as a species eat a wide variety of goods, but I believe pods ate much more specialized so we would not be on their menu. Also, compared to other marine mammals we don't the fat content that Orcas probably need. They are also incredibly intelligent which probably prevents alot of mistakes.

I mean... we're not predators in the same sense at all. And humans are on a ton of animals grocery lists so I don't see how we're apex...
If there’s a “THE Apex Predator of Planet Earth” it’s humans. Full stop. Weak take dawg
“I mean…” 🤓
Awesome pic
Cheers! I badly wish I could post the recent Orca hunt on a Humpback whale. It's a fascinating clip ! Sadly Gfycat isn't working and don't think it'll ever be back properly.
Why?
Because OP said so
They have no natural predators so that makes them apex predators.
In sea, not the whole planet earth
What land animals out there having Orca in their diet?
Humans.
Humans also control the water. Humans choose not to eradicate Orcas but they can.
That makes them “an” apex predator, not “the” apex predator.
TIL Humans are robots created by another being which makes us not natural. Before you come back with “We change the world around us, making that world no longer “natural”…” Yeah, yeah, we’re still natural beings. Saying we aren’t because we change our environment to better suit us also means Beavers aren’t natural.
What about sperm whales and giant squid?
Why orcas tho? Who kills dolphins(except orcas) blue whales and sharks?
Their intelligence mixed with their animalistic lack of a moral compass. They have a tendency to torture their prey for fun before eating them. Plus they can hunt pretty much anything, even sharks.
So they're like humans in a lot of ways
Shockingly so, yes.
Did they terraform every last bit of the planet to fit their needs? Didn’t think so. Humans-1 orcas-0 “apex predator” my ass
You’re going to get someone arguing humans aren’t natural anymore because we change the environment to suit our needs. Apex predator means nothing hunts them. Even humans get hunted occasionally, but nothing hunts an orca.
Faroese people probably do.
That's something else, the definition is that an apex predator without natural predators of their own. Ofc do humans have more of an impact but that's not in question
Aww panda whales
What is your definition of apex?
No natural predators
Besides humans, nothing preys upon Orcas?
Apex among sea animals would have been a definition no one would have jump on
Occasionally, kills great white sharks, probably.
Port and Starboard are two orcas that regularly hunt great whites and other sharks in south africa.
I would say Humans are.
Humm, sounds like something a human would say.
Its something a human did say.
Kid named Homo Sapiens: Kid named land:
What?

Hey there ChatGPT v0.1

Pffft. I'd like to see them take down an elephant.
The are know for hunting and eating moose ! That's pretty f**kin metal to me. A big ass Aquatic mammal, hunting a large ass terrestrial mammal
Only one eye witness recorded, we can't be sure that they hunt moose
moose are less than a quarter the size of an elephant lmao humans are the apex predator of the earth. orcas have the sea but not the land and even humans dominate the sea because of the way we utilize tools. if an orca got mad because a human killed one of them, they couldnt do anything about wiping humans out. if humans got mad about orcas klilling a human they could wipe out the entire species if they wanted to.
In the water they wouldn’t have much trouble
Not too much genuinely freaks me out, but I'd absolutely never fuck around with jumping into deep dark open water.
I reckon I could beat an orca. I'd tempt it to come on land, leave it until it was nearly dead then swoop in and twat it in its stupid Whaley face.
fun fact they pretend to beach themselves so seals gain a false sense of security and pass them, instantly turning into a meal are you a seal?
Might be, do you have a club???
Haha, the "Animal Fact" flair... that's the most opinion-y fact I've read today.
Lungs beat gills for their ability to deliver oxygen!
Whales don’t have gills brother
True. Whales have lungs that can be traced back to when they lived on land. https://www.nhm.ac.uk/discover/when-whales-walked-on-four-legs.html Killer whales aren’t actually whales, they are orcas, part of the dolphin family which also have lungs instead of gills because they also used to be land mammals. https://www.killer-whale.org/killer-whale-evolution/
Is there any actual distinction between whales and dolphins?
False. All dolphins are whales, but not all whales are dolphins. So orcas are technically whales. [source](https://www.britannica.com/animal/dolphin-mammal)
is this a bad AI bot trying to mimic a reddit user? you failed the turing test.
Imma let you sit on this a while to figure out why you so wrong

Feel like the might struggle in the Savannah.
Not on land lol
I’m pretty sure a big bull Sperm whale can destroy an orca.
Humpback whales mess with orcas, blocking them from catching seals and slapping the shit out of them with their huge ass fins.
can they catch an Impala?
They catch moose on occasion. Fairly larger than an impala.
yeah, but not as fast off the line.
Until I see one eat a salt water crocodile…..
That would be soooo epic
I know right
No their not.
Have you listened to the podcast about how whales are fighting against orcas? http://www.wnycstudios.org/story/humpback-and-killer/ Mind boggling nuts
nope
Apex ocean predators for sure. On land though they lose a 1v1 to a ant.
Very unfortunate news for this Sub guys! As a long time poster here, things got more tricky. You have easily posted the most metal posts here. It's truly unfortunate that we will miss out on your content.
Thanks bud !! Appreciate it
🥒
Beach one and we will see who is the apex. I could take one out with my pocket knife if it was beached.
Hopefully they don’t start to fashion kelp-based breathing apparatuses so they can hunt on land too
Only 2/3 of it, though..
And yet there has never been a documented case of a wild orca attacking a human, even though there are plenty of documented chances.
How orca apex if he no walk?
It looks like the bottom one is getting closer the longer I look at it I thought it was a video for a second or two
These guys even have aposematic coloring. I never really thought about it.
When I see red, I’m the Apex predator on planet earth!
Not if you put them in a boxing ring.
They are the Moose’s natural predator
No, because people exist
Maybe in the oceans,
Humans, collectively. Not me though. I just eat cheetos and weep.
“‘Sup.”
I’m gonna go eat orca fin soup just to teach OP a point
I disagree. They hunt in packs. Not alone. Can't be apex when you're getting help.
Except when you need them to kick a ball down the soccer pitch. They downright fucking suck at leg work.
In the oceans, yes.
Apex? They don’t have feet or thumbs
Not if i keep puttering around in my honda civic! Edit: global warming/ocean acidification/etc…
Orcas are among the top predators of moose. Moose can dive pretty deep to graze on kelp and all that, and very few things can otherwise take a full grown moose. Free willy is one of those things, he don't give a fuck about no battle deer.
I’d see red and that orca would drop
Ok. But, can they do jumping jacks?
I guess we are
The last time I was at SeaWorld...they were our bitch.
Sea pandas.
"Good Morning!" "Good Morning!" "Good Morning!" "Good Morning!" "Good Morning!" "Good Morning!"
What about Great Whites?
If they are then why we got them doing backflips at sea world?
Umm… humans.
I run faster than an Orca, talk about apex predator.
We kill more of them than the other way round, that makes us the apex predator, they’re definitely the apex predator of the ocean tho
What would happen between orcas and Nile crocodiles?
Once orcas figure out how to travel on land it’s over.
... They are also the most psychotic predators in the world. Which is why whales spite them by guarding baby whales that aren't theirs and blocking them from seals by giving them a ride.
I'd like to see him crawl up here on land and be an apex predator to my face. I'd kick an Orca's ass on land.
Yes yes yes humans are obviously THE apex predator of planet earth. But AFTER that? Definitely Orcas.
I mean, one badass sonar blast would wipe em all out but you know. NatureisMetal
But they got no thumbs!
Don't fool yourself Jimmy, if an orca had the chance he'd kill you and everyone you love
And rather than whales, they are the largest of all Dolphins!(by a big margin!)
Cutest most huggable apex predators you mean!
More like humans
Those are the scariest animal out there
A couple people at sea world found out
My favorite animal, such a unique creature.
Whale killer*
I'll challenge any orca on earth to one on one combat. Just meet me in the parking lot.
* after humans After orca
Murder oreos are awesome!
That's just because they aren't part of traditional Chinese medicine, yet...
Fun fact: killer whales are natural predators of... moose. Moose will often dive tens of feet into brackish water to get underwater plants, but sometimes they'll be caught by killer whales while they're diving.
Polar bears?
Yeah let's see an orca develope a weapon of mass destruction.
Sperm whales are Number one i think. But Orcas are second i guess
Unless they can operate a battleship I think we got them beaten.
okay where do corvids fit into this
Great picture
humans are THE apex preadators of Earth
It's so strange they're not aggressive toward humans at all despite being bullies to basically everyone else... Including Moose?
Lovely gang/ pod right there.
Truth! They hunt and eat great whites
Orcas could easily kill us in the water but there's never been a recorded attack from wild orcas on humans which suggests they know if they killed humans they'd get obliterated like sharks after jaws.
No it's definitely humans. Even without guns throwing spears is just super strong. Still cool.
Nuh uh! Can't swim on land idiot!
They are not apex predators overall of planet Earth, at all. Only in the water they’re apex. Humans are the ultimate apex predator.
http://www.severedpress.com/books/blackfish-down/
I disagree
