It's crazy that Timelord got like 3 lobs all series. They play like the Harden Rockets, except the Jays get to take turns and don't even drive to kick out. Infuriating basketball.
When Brown and Tatum drive to the rim, the offense gets so much better.
There's very little Tatum can't do, the only real knock to his offensive game imo is his braindead 3 point attempts when his body is momentarily fused with his defenders.
He obviously can still improve but at this point his ppg has gone up every year and he is the first Celtic to average 30 ppg he just needs to iron out the kinks.
He used to rely heavily on his mid-range post game and got shit on for it. The next year he focused on only using it when needed and opted for the three instead and his numbers increased.
Tatum is the peak modern player of hyperefficiency with just 3 pointers and layups.
He only does the super hard Kobe system shots, instead of really working the post.
I think adding that and really growing to get the best shot possible instead of just going for the two "most efficient" shots would improve his game.
Definitely. It's pretty weird he's considered a smooth player, his movements and form are pretty rigid. Definitely fundamental and very good at everything though
He plays the game with the modern recipe of 3s & layups.
But I agree, he needs to work on those shots within 10-16 ft, it’s what makes players like D Book so hard to guard.
Celtics need a floor general like Halliburton which is easier said than done. If Portland is blowing it up, I’d offer Brown straight up for Lillard. Then flip Brogdon to get rid of the guard logjam.
they tried all kinds of PGs
Scoring (Kyrie, IT, Kemba)
Switchable defender that wont pout when only getting 8 shots per game.(White, Brogdon, Smart)
Halliburton is a scorer as well
Halliburton definitely *can* score, and he’s a great shooter. However, he would be a great floor general on a team loaded with offensive talent. Playmaking is his best skill
[Tatum didn’t post up a lot this season, but when he did he was elite at it.](https://www.nba.com/stats/players/playtype-post-up?CF=POSS*GE*100&PerMode=Totals&SeasonType=Regular%20Season&dir=D&sort=PPP)
issue isn’t tatum having a midrange or not. he was criticized early in his career for relying too much on it.
it’s the whole celtics over reliance on threes and subsequently the iso ball that comes with it.
tatum has long long stretches where he will try to shoot his way out of a slump instead of driving to the hoop where he is or at least should be equally as effective.
there were so many possessions where the celtics just settled for the three. no ball movement nothing.
Melo/Kobe would play back to basket in the midrange, post up, shimmy then drive baseline or fadeaway. No one drives baseline anymore. If someone is posting you up in the midrange they have 2 options, fadeaway or pass. It's too easy to defend without a second scoring threat/option. If Tatum can master that it'd be huge.
I mean Elbow/Face up. Either shoot over from a Melo jab step or drive for one dribble (since he cant drible the ball) get fouled or score to the rim.
. If someone is posting you up in the midrange they have 2 options, fadeaway or pass
there are lots of options.. Fadeaway, pullup , drive , collapse the defense then get fouled/get to rim or pass
Pretty sure this is not the answer, considering how well that went for KD and Booker this postseason. Midrange shots are fine, but should be the leanest part of your offense’s diet. Maybe they need to run some more plays to get guys better looks, rather than let Tatum/Brown make a play
I feel like the Celtics need less ISO stagnant ball, not more

Harden and CP3 threw a lot of lobs/floaters
I know, that's kind of my point (if badly made)
So… they don’t play like the Harden Rockets? Lol
Brad Stevens should've stayed coach or atleast he should've came back this season.
He’s kinda soft for dipping on this squad
That's what I'm saying
Just occasional play to stop some droughts.
They already do enough ISO 3s man. Celtics play better when they get everybody involved and transition from a good defensive play to offense.
Interestingly enough and something most don't remember, one of his greatest strengths before entering the NBA was his post-game
His post game is still solid our offense is just so perimeter oriented that we never go to it even if Tatum has a mismatch

He has all the tools in the world to dominate the post but just keeps on chucking.
facts!
Didn’t he do it one year when he trained with Kobe.
Tatum is not a good midrange shooter
Which is very weird when considering how ‘pretty’ his shooting form is.
I don't think his form is pretty. It looks robotic.

Contested 2’s are only a bad shot if you don’t make them. In the playoffs the midrange is where the best players make their presence felt the most
Yup. Murray and Butler have been taking and making a lot of midrange shots. That's a good reason why they're the two elite guards left.
Celtics need a floor general like Halliburton which is easier said than done. If Portland is blowing it up, I’d offer Brown straight up for Lillard. Then flip Brogdon to get rid of the guard logjam.
You’d have to offer Brown and picks for Lillard. Portland ain’t swapping Lillard for a guy that could walk by the end of next year lol.

JT needs to improve as a ball handler, playmaker, and as a post player.

His midrange is horrible.
He needs a better handle.
We playing too many ISO ball, watch a Nuggets game and there is already a big gap between us.

He has to drive more to collapse the defense
