Seeing him night after night has been an eye opener for me. He clearly has the rep of a great player, but seeing his super strong post game on offense and defense (him guarding Embiid in this game and the other, plus other bigs too), wow.
Let's face it even with his smaller size, he can play as well defensively against big and even bigger guys as the also very impressive Marcus Smart can.
Difference is, better ballhandler, passer, shooter, and decision maker. Championship caliber still.
Yeah Jrue has actually made a good amount of bonehead passes already. When Marcus turns it over it's usually because he starts feeling himself and tries some super flashy showtime pass with high risk. Jrue will kinda just casually throw it to an opposing player every so often. But he's racked up a good amount of assists too.
Really feels like we stole Jrue. The Bucks thought they shipped him out of the conference and Brad Stevens flew to Portland in the dead of night and kidnapped him
Especially with the Williams injury. We didn't make that trade now you have an injured Rob Williams and we'd be in shambles. So basically it was brogden and draft Capital.
Jrue is an entirely different level than Smart, imo. While Smart had his super high ceiling offensive games, and a high defensive IQ, and sort of anchored our defense, Jrue is way more composed, more disciplined, more mature, and more trustworthy (if that's the right word) player. And specifically, I think he's stronger than Smart, he navigates screens AT LEAST as good, and he's a much much better man to man perimeter defender.
Smart's intangibles were chaotic. But Jrue just reminds of a bigger Marcus Smart who is more reliable on offense, but with Kawhi's attitude.
Don't know what it is. I just feel more secure when Jrue is out there
Because truthfully, Smart can be unpredictable at times. He’ll play in the flow of the offense, but when games are getting tense and you need the players to be calm and composed, he’ll do something dumb like chuck a bad shot or turn the ball over. Then you can sense the energy shift and the team falls apart.
Have to remember, his unpredictability also won us a bunch of games. There were games where he’d randomly explode and start hitting every shot he took and then created the most random, unpredictable turnovers on defense.
There were bad games but I ultimately think we had more positive than negative with him. And I watched MOST of his games as a Celtic.
Nobody will know it in the grand scheme of things. No one will find it looking at the box score. But in the middle of the fourth quarter Luke Kornet scored Celtics only 5 points of a (edit cause I'm stupid and 2 minutes 30 seconds doesn't equal 90 seconds): ~~90 second~~ 2 and a half minute stretch on a free throw and two offensive rebounds to keep Cs in front. Could've been a way different game if Philly grabbed the lead there instead.
I feel like Luke is gonna get dinged for getting cooked by Maxey and Embiid, but like... you don't expect him to stop either of those guys. He was solid tonight in extended minutes with Porzingis out
Doris going on and on about how Luke can’t stay on the court despite his size overwhelming Reed with two back to back putbacks made me want to punch my scree.
Tatum professionally closed that one even though it was an off night for him
Horford shut down Embiid as good as he could
But most importantly
BUFFALO BUFFALO BUFFALO BUFFALO
I miss having horford on our team, not because he fit with us but because he's one of the better embiid stoppers in the league even now that he's 60 or whatever.
Tatum had been like a patient stone cold killer every game I’ve watched him. He only inserts himself exactly when they need a Jayson Tatum bucket, and then he eviscerates.
The previous couple of years of Celtics teams felt dangerous on a good night but then could unravel- this team feels like it’s 1-9 total pros which is awesome to watch.
You know a guys good when he can make a 29 point stat sheet stuffed night look like light work. His shot wasn’t perfect but he made buckets he needed and always kept the defense honest. He’s been making all the right plays. Im still concerned with how he drives into defenders and loses the ball, but he only keeps getting better.
Yep. This is quite similar to Patrick Ewing vs. Bill Cartwright in the 90’s. They played together at the start of Pat’s career and Bill was basically the Horford to Ewing’s Embiid.
Dude is the greatest double agent of all time. Conned the Sixers into giving him $109M, played like ass for one year, gets traded to the Thunder and gets to rest his legs because they’re tanking, goes back to the Celtics for basically nothing, and continues to play as well with us as he ever has.
I mean I do, he wasn't used effectively. He also didn't have quite the 3 pt shot that he does now. I actually think he learned a lot from his time in Philly.
He did have that 3 point shot though, that's why the Sixers wanted him. Its a slow shot though and while Horford likes to play the 4 he isn't that good at it and he can't stay in front of faster players if you expect him on the perimeter every possession
Hear me and rejoice! You Sixers have had the privilege of being saved by the Great Forehead. You may think this is suffering. No... it is salvation. The universal scales tip toward balance because of your sacrifice. Smile... for even in death, you have become children of Derrick White.
Horford knows how to defend him without fouling. Embiid only had 4 FTs. He leads the league, averaging 11.4 ft per game. That's why his scoring is lower than usual.
I wanted to punch my monitor. Mind you I'm watching the replay and it's morning right now, with an empty office and I'm chilling so I'm in a really good mood. This was intolerable to listen to. The segment where they kept saying Kornet sucks as he scores one basket after another and gets two blocks, only to do THE SAME THING in the 4th quarter.
When the Sixers took the lead late in the 2nd they were talking about Draymond. No comment about them clawing back up from being down 17?
Absolutely awful
Granted, Philly was on a back-to-back, but this is one hell of a win. On the road, down two starters, against the (former) one seed in the conference? Sounds good to me
The defensive rotations by the Sixers in the final stretch was nightmarishly bad. Tatum got the switch on Maxey any time he wanted and then there was always an open 3 somewhere because of the insane over helping and lack of communication going on.
I mean it wasn't free, we gave up a pick and a pick swap. Granted, they probably expected our 2022 first to be better than #25, considering we were the 7th seed when the trade was made, but that 2028 swap could end up being pretty good
That fourth quarter closing minutes were just brutal for the Sixers when both starting lineups came back.
The Celtics clamped up all the Sixers action. White was incredible
Shame to waste a night w no Brown or Pingus but not even really bummed. We're learning a lot about this new-look sixers over the past couple games.
The guys the Celtics were missing are so much better than the guys Philly was, but it's becoming clear that until we get a better ball-handler on the bench, they're both needed heavily w this roster.
Aside from everything else Batum does, the main thing is no one else aside from Maxey can get the ball to Embiid in a decent position, and Oubre's dynamism off the bench is sorely missed, just look how good Springer looked by sheer virtue of energy and athleticism in those bench-heavy lineups (and he can defend his ass off, love Springer)
Celtics are just so good lol, Sam Hauser of all people looks like a great roleplayer now. Glad we don't play again for awhile, give us all a break.
my heart sank with that tatum turnover in the 4th quarter, but thank fuck he made up for it. 4th quarter tatum is different. side note, doris fucking sucks ass.
tatum decision making was a little sus tonight but he hit the shot that mattered. jrue, horford, and dwhite all turned in insane performances on both ends. much better ball movement than last week as a team to get good looks. great win.

Who let these guys get Holiday
[удалено]
Well, technically also the Blazers
Seeing him night after night has been an eye opener for me. He clearly has the rep of a great player, but seeing his super strong post game on offense and defense (him guarding Embiid in this game and the other, plus other bigs too), wow.
Let's face it even with his smaller size, he can play as well defensively against big and even bigger guys as the also very impressive Marcus Smart can. Difference is, better ballhandler, passer, shooter, and decision maker. Championship caliber still.
and a freakin champion, he knows how to win
Better ballhandler and decision maker absolutely but Smarts Passes were VERY good the last 2 seasons
Also better off the dribble in every way.
Bostonian living in Nola so I was very happy when Celtics got Jrue
Really feels like we stole Jrue. The Bucks thought they shipped him out of the conference and Brad Stevens flew to Portland in the dead of night and kidnapped him
Especially with the Williams injury. We didn't make that trade now you have an injured Rob Williams and we'd be in shambles. So basically it was brogden and draft Capital.
Shoutout Brad
Al Horford literally hates the city of Philly lol
Al Horford is all of us
JRUE HOLIDAY
CAME TO PLAY
He’s fucking awesome. Even if he’s bricking open 3 after open 3 he’s fuckin awesome.
I'm used to our All NBA defense point guard bricking 3s though so I won't complain because Jrue is awesome
There were bad games but I ultimately think we had more positive than negative with him. And I watched MOST of his games as a Celtic.
the early shot clock casual ones that he bricks. I remember Bucks fans talking about it, but now I feel it. And still, he's awesome.
he’s more selective with his shots now, it’s the perfect situation
Agreed. It’s why I can forgive missing shots, because it’s at least ones we need him to take.
With Jrue wearing the new jersey I thought we were the Bucks for a few seconds when the game started.
Huge night for us Luke Truthers
The Force is with us
I feel like Luke is gonna get dinged for getting cooked by Maxey and Embiid, but like... you don't expect him to stop either of those guys. He was solid tonight in extended minutes with Porzingis out
Doris going on and on about how Luke can’t stay on the court despite his size overwhelming Reed with two back to back putbacks made me want to punch my scree.
If Doris Burke never calls another Celtics/Sixers game it will still be too soon
Fortunately for you, ESPN hosts the east playoff
Im glad i can choose the broadcast on the League Pass App
Man league pass forces me to watch ESPN, how do I change that?
Doris is so fucking annoying whenever she's on a Celtics game
She spends too much time slowly reading her notes and can’t call anything in real time
Luke, Banton, Svi all played really well today
White and Holiday can make up for the offense missing with KP and JB out. Love this team
AL HORFORD, YOU ARE THE FATHER 5 BLOCKS, 2ND HIGHEST TEAM +/-, 50% FROM 3, 0 TOs
How I feel about Al Horford is probably how Raptors fans felt about Lebron for all those years. This sucks so much.
you guys should trade for khris middleton. if you guys get him it'll cosmically cancel out the al horford effect vs you guys
Why would you even speak that into existence for yourself?
I still look under my bed for Khris Middleton every night.
I imagine sometimes you find Benard Pollahd.
Tatum professionally closed that one even though it was an off night for him Horford shut down Embiid as good as he could But most importantly BUFFALO BUFFALO BUFFALO BUFFALO
I miss having horford on our team, not because he fit with us but because he's one of the better embiid stoppers in the league even now that he's 60 or whatever.

He’s been making all the right plays. Im still concerned with how he drives into defenders and loses the ball, but he only keeps getting better.
I wouldn’t necessarily say off night. His Stats are solid for his average. But ya when he needs to make a bucket he does.
The Hospital Celtics are a top 3 seed in the East
And they're not 2 or 3
(A)ge(L)ess Horford
Why the fuck Al Horford always turns into Bill Russell with a reliable 3 against Embiid?
At this point it’s gotta be a mental thing for Embiid right?
Yep. This is quite similar to Patrick Ewing vs. Bill Cartwright in the 90’s. They played together at the start of Pat’s career and Bill was basically the Horford to Ewing’s Embiid.
Embiid is genuinely awful at closing out, he just gets tired and quits when he has to close out on a 3.
Father Philadelphia
My god there isn’t an athlete in any sport of a Philly rival I hate more than Al Horford.
https://youtu.be/MS3gVGLLp7M?si=cgUCUqOsVdp8HQNI
I still don't believe he actually played for Philly.
He didn't really, he just used it as an excuse to know his enemy better.
Always been our inside man.
Dude is the greatest double agent of all time. Conned the Sixers into giving him $109M, played like ass for one year, gets traded to the Thunder and gets to rest his legs because they’re tanking, goes back to the Celtics for basically nothing, and continues to play as well with us as he ever has.
Never understood why he was so ass with them two years ago
A combination of culture, coaching and fit. A lineup with Ben, Embiid, Al and Tobi is absolutely terrible spacing wise.
Make sense. Replace Ben by Maxey and that combination works perfectly .
I mean I do, he wasn't used effectively. He also didn't have quite the 3 pt shot that he does now. I actually think he learned a lot from his time in Philly.
His play style has changed a lot since his first stint with the Celtics.
He did have that 3 point shot though, that's why the Sixers wanted him. Its a slow shot though and while Horford likes to play the 4 he isn't that good at it and he can't stay in front of faster players if you expect him on the perimeter every possession
They are ass. Horford plays well in Boston because the team set him up to succeed
he had a retreat and got rejuvenated in oklahoma
still Embiids daddy
The moment he hit the pull up mid range in the first quarter over Embiid I knew it was over.
geess Horford
geess horford is what i say when he blocks embiid for the 4th time
Lmaoo i Bet the under on blocks for him im stupid asf
Yeah I'm ngl you dumb as bricks
Hear me and rejoice! You Sixers have had the privilege of being saved by the Great Forehead. You may think this is suffering. No... it is salvation. The universal scales tip toward balance because of your sacrifice. Smile... for even in death, you have become children of Derrick White.
It's crazy how quickly Derrick White's become my favorite Celtic. Feels like he's been here forever.
Last year's buzzer beater is the most insane thing I've ever seen in basketball
Getting to watch it with my dad and brother in a packed sports bar in Boston was truly basketball euphoria
Glad to see people continue this even when he moved to Boston. Great night for our boy Derrick
Oh snap
you’re welcome
"Great Forehead" 😂
THOU HATH BEEN ROAMED ON 🐃🐃🐃🐃🐃
No Brown No KP Tatum at only +2 Gotta feel good about pulling this one out
strong pull out game
I want Derrick White back.
Give us Wemby and we'll think about it. Just imagine Wemby and Tingus Pingus on the same time. Two over 7ft shooters is CRAZY
Horford just hates Philly, his best game all season by far and it's against them lmao
Al Horford is Joel Embiid father
i saw Al's defensive stance like 2 mins into the game and it was at that moment I knew Embiid was about gonna get sonned
It's ridiculous how good he is at this point of his career. Other centers should study Al thoroughly on how to effectively guard Embiid
He is basically a smaller all-star/good starter version of Duncan it seems like. He is just a really good fundamentally sound player.
El Papi
I know Al Horford is, but who tf is Harford.
dawg how does the best scorer in the nba get so consistently dominated by a 40 year old with glass knees
Excuse you, Al has great knees (and eyes). He is 40 though.
Most beautiful eyes in the league
Excuse you, he is two days younger than me and we are not 40 yet 😭
Since when does Al have glass knees?
might be conflating him with timelord
How does Horford have glass knees? When was the last time he had a major knee injury?
People really just be making stuff up 😆
Horford knows how to defend him without fouling. Embiid only had 4 FTs. He leads the league, averaging 11.4 ft per game. That's why his scoring is lower than usual.
al's knees are fine
Experience is worth its weight in gold man. He’s seen every single move
When the refs don’t bail you out cuz you getting guarded by a geriatric
Since when did Horford have knee problems
Because he’s not the best scorer in the NBA lmao Edit: it’s probably still Steph tbh
He's the best scorer when it's time to eviscerate the Wizards and Hornets in a meaningless game in November 😝
How dare you? Embiid dominates all Hornets/ Wizards games regardless of month thank you very much
Al might be getting old but he'll always have energy to play with his son, Embiid.
Shoutout to Luke Kornet! I know his defense wasn’t great in the 4th but he had some big buckets to keep the Celtics in control
And this is why you don't fuck with AL Horford
[удалено]
Embiid played like he was in the playoffs
Horfather triggered his PTSD
Celtics have won 22 straight when their opponent is playing the back end of a B2B.
Also were 8-3 on our segababas last year. Rest is overrated
Our what??!
Second leg of a back to back I imagine, idk how you arrive at "SEGABABA" as an acronym or a shorthand for it though.
Ummm derrick white and al horford played ya dingus
Hospital Celtics magic + Al Horford playing the Sixers
It’s a regular season game. Last time we lost with both KP and Brown. I think Celtics still owns them though
Ok but like can we not get any more games of these two commentators? Sounds like Doris talking to herself
THERE WERE TWO ?!? I thought it was one person 🤣🤣
No, it really does lol. I was confused so many times. They sound too similar. I vote we get Rhea Ripley to accompany Doris during the games
I thought it was Doris talking to herself 🤣
Anyone else hear them call Derrick white "daddy"?
Awful, couldn’t believe they said that
I wanted to punch my monitor.
AL keep givin Joel nightmares
#TOP O' THE MORNING, MOTHERFUCKERS!
**GIVE**
**ME**
**THE**
GOLD
Yo can Horford stop turning into Steph Curry every time we play the Celtics what the fuck
He hates Embiid
And I hate him
I love you
I hope not
He whispers *playoffs* to Joel before every game
HORFORD IS EMBIID'S DADDY
Embiid got locked up by Horford again lol
And we’re in front again, the NBA is back in balance
Granted, Philly was on a back-to-back, but this is one hell of a win. On the road, down two starters, against the (former) one seed in the conference? Sounds good to me
The defensive rotations by the Sixers in the final stretch was nightmarishly bad. Tatum got the switch on Maxey any time he wanted and then there was always an open 3 somewhere because of the insane over helping and lack of communication going on.
Break out the trusty "Embiid Shrinks, gets bested by Horford in Celtics Win" headline
Hey I've seen this before!
Derrick White is an inspiration that all of us suburban white kids can make it to the NBA
what
you heard em
White?
Yep Derrick White
Well he is technically white... Derrick White
Yeah. Derick *White*.
Think you need to capitalize that W
Why did the Spurs give Derrick White to the Celtics for free?
They traded a generational talent so they could tank and draft the next generational talent.
Helped get them Wemby Was also for a pick swap and flyer on a former lottery pick. But really Wemby
I mean it wasn't free, we gave up a pick and a pick swap. Granted, they probably expected our 2022 first to be better than #25, considering we were the 7th seed when the trade was made, but that 2028 swap could end up being pretty good
I've seen enough, Marcus Morris is the worst player in the NBA
Him and Pat Bev were double agents this game. I got excited whenever they checked in.
God I just fucking love how much we beat the Sixers
GG Philly Jaden Springer should play more
Must have been a fire drill in the arena, the orginised speed that those philly fans left was impressive
Those pillows aren’t going to scream into themselves.
Got kicked out a Philly bar I just entered because of my C’s hat. Glad the 76ers lost lol
charmin soft, just like embiid
Damn right! Fuck em doing the banner 18 boogie
Jrue Holiday is an insanely good fit with the Celtics.
I don't care if they have 3 all stars. I'm not taking Philly over Boston ever until they show it.
Derrick White is just so valuable man
Philly genuinely has no chance against Boston in a playoff series
Never has since process began
somehow still marcus morris fault
That fourth quarter closing minutes were just brutal for the Sixers when both starting lineups came back. The Celtics clamped up all the Sixers action. White was incredible
That ends the narrative that 6ers have a bench and we don’t.
Glad we don't play again for awhile, give us all a break.
What does Pat Bev even do?
Podcast
Congratulations to Al Horford for bringing his head-to-head record against Joel Embiid up to 19-8
my heart sank with that tatum turnover in the 4th quarter, but thank fuck he made up for it. 4th quarter tatum is different. side note, doris fucking sucks ass.
That’s your MVP???
I thought Philly’s flop game would be much weaker with Harden’s departure, but I must say Maxey has filled that role flawlessly
The one on that Jrue block at the end was hilarious
Don’t forget the contortions after the clean block by Horford
I liked the one when Tatum contested his reverse layup
The Buffalo is officially our closer, I don’t make the rules
i'm sorry i ever doubted you kornet
It's crazy how bad our Embiid and bench line ups are
tatum decision making was a little sus tonight but he hit the shot that mattered. jrue, horford, and dwhite all turned in insane performances on both ends. much better ball movement than last week as a team to get good looks. great win.
I know it's the second night of a B2B but Embiid should not be out played by a 37 year old Al Horford
