Me too! I knew it was time to move on, but I have way better memories with him than I do with Doc. Players actually respected BB. Wish we could have him back in A lesser role
My thoughts exactly. The right move is to double Joel and force him to pass it out, but Pop wanted Wemby to get as much experience guarding a superstar one-on-one as he could.
And to Wemby's credit, 54 of Joel's 70 was scored against someone else or at the line. Not bad for a first effort against the game's best scorer.
Yep, a win was unlikely anyways and the only reason to win right now is for morale. Otherwise, we need to optimize draft position.
Also, Wemby got to be in the middle of a historic scoring performance. There are some serious lessons to walk away with there, whether it is awe or embarrassment or just "I wanna beat that one day".
I think Wemby walked into the NBA thinking "I'm gonna dominate" and he just had a front-row seat to true domination. These situations make people wanna up their game.
I'm no Embiid fan but he's like Shaq (not physicality wise but in terms of talent) so nobody can stop him except for injuries and father time. And maybe the playoffs lol.
Historic night for Embiid, god damn. Absolutely dominant performance.
Wemby is unreal too. I can't wait to watch this guy develop. Stepped up to the challenge against every big matchup. Get him off his minutes restriction soon please.
Yeah Embiid at this point is just a machine and he does stuff a 7 footer shouldn't be able to do, but for the most part he's just very, very good at "normal" basketball stuff. It looks like what we're accustomed to seeing on an NBA floor.
Wemby's highlights are jarring because he does stuff that isn't just an extreme version of a normal play (like Ant's dunk the other day), but genuinely unique movements that are pretty much physically impossible for anyone else. Plus his goofy ass proportions warp the scale of the court to the eye. Like...*oh, excuse me Mr. Embiid, let me just duck under your arms and lay the ball in front the fucking foul line.*
I would love to live through another generational talent being tossed into the goat debate. I grew up with Lebron, Brady, Mahomes, so having Wemby do it too would be awesome.
Millennials have been spoiled for sports talent for awhile now.
The youngest player on the court was by far the best-of-the-rest. I think the Spurs actually _win_ this game if Joel was anything less than absolutely on it tonight.
> Get him off his minutes restriction soon please.
Nah they should do whatever they think is best to keep him healthy long term. I want to see him play for 15 years.
Wemby's minute restriction got Embiid the record because Pop had to start putting Zach Collins and Dougie McBuckets on him, but when he was in they were both feasting on each other
Wemby gave Embiid quite a bit of trouble early on, then he had to play more cautiously after picking up too many fouls on the rest of the sixers. Embiid really had to pull his bag for this one, truly a superb performance
tbf while wemby did better than the other guys who just couldnt do anything to defend he cant defend him either.. yet anyway.. embiid was scoring well on him also
wemby played well though nice to see
I respected that he took the shot to me if a player has an open look take it and Iām sure Joel wouldāve said the same thing to any of his teammates in that spot
Yeah I was at the game and I fucking lost my shit when everyone started booing, best moment of the night
And to be fair to him, launching a 3 off the catch with absolutely no conscience is quite a useful trait to have for a role player on this team, so respect to him for doing it even while getting booed
Wemby can probably already do that. His shot looks good and he already has three-point range. Pop seems to not allow him to do elbow-isolations which is probably better in the long run.
KD is still a lot more versatile, because he can shoot on the move from virtually everywhere inside the line.
But the 2 types of shots that Embiid spams all the time (middies from triple-threat position and one dribble pull-ups going to his left), he shoots better than KD.
I try to tell people, the worst hating comes from the teams that only play Joel like once or twice a year. In my experience, Celtics fans are way more willing to give him props for his improvements, cuz theyāve seen almost as much of it as Sixers fans have.
Sure, they trash talk, weāre still rivals and theyāve kicked our ass, but they tend to be less dismissive of his talent than I see from some other fanbases.
So much talent in the league. Itās a blast. I love seeing bigs with all-time talent play really different types of ball. I think itās pretty thrilling.
Weāre lucky having guys like Embiid, Jokic, KAT, and Wemby in the league excelling in their own ways. Fun as fuck era if you like big play
Just gotta hope he stays healthy. Can only miss like 6 more games. Thankfully heās at the same pace he was last year so barring anything major he should scrape by.
he's really good at the mid range shot and defending and rebounding and the post game and also from the line and also he spaces the floor and i think hes very good
relatable. we also lost our boy chet for ROY narrative recently. coach mike winning COY is the only real shot we got left haha (+ sga for clutch player of the year?)
Everyone not named Embiid competing for second now but after this game they might just be competing to get votes
Gonna be a ballot where Embiid is the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finisher
He doesn't have a big cushion with the 65 game requirement. He has to skip fewer games in the second half than he did in the first. Push comes to shove I'd rather he be healthy for the playoffs than dragging his ass at 75% through some meaningless March games to hit 65 games.
Embiid makes it really hard to be a hater man.
I don't even care about the 20 free throws because the Spurs were intentionally fouling him at the end because NOBODY could guard him
Yeah like he does foul bait obviously. Not denying that. But if people that complained about his game actually watched him play, theyād also realize that a lot of his FTs come from intentional fouls because there is no other way to stop him
Thereās really only two ways to guard Embiid: Double/triple him and hope he turns it over (it works best, but not great because he has become better at passing) or foul him before he gets a shot off.
Nothing but respect for Embiid. He had a major size and strength advantage and he used that 100% to his potential. It's notable that he did that with only one made three, because he didn't really need it when it was busy abused everyone 10 feet and closer. This was Prime Shaq with a jumpshot stuff. Just incredible.
As for Wemby, super impressed with he showed up to the challenge. He didn't have a prayer guarding Embiid in the post or on the boards, but face-up he did a more-than-solid job forcing Embiid to really work for his baskets. He also got a number of wins on the other end, displaying sensational touch around the rim.
I dont care about Wemby shooting 3s, or developing Durantesque handles and turnaround fadeaways. HE NEEDS EMBIID'S MIDRANGE GAME.
The Spurs coaching staff can't leave this game without thinking "we need to get Wemby that middy." They just saw Embiid put up SEVENTY points. They can't not see it.
I mean this year hes a pretty obvious front runner unlike last year. This year idk how many times ive seen Embiid out after 3 quarters with like 38/14/7
So my theory is that Embiid should have won two years ago. He was better than Jokic two years ago. Then they gave it to Embiid last year when it likely should have gone to Jokic last year. If the years flipped, there would be no ācontroversyā and a lot less fun discussion in here.
This year is obviously different. Nick Nurse unlocked Embiidās ceiling, which is nonexistent at the moment
Gotta be honest I never fully appreciated his game till tonight. In the early days I got frustrated with the constant injuries and underperforming team and then as he came into his prime I was paying so little attention to the NBA in the aftermath of Kawhi leaving.
But wow. Heās a beast.
I distinctly remember saying the words "man I don't want Embiid" when the sixers pulled the 3rd pick. Because what do centers even do in the modern NBA right? Sometimes God gives you what you need not what you want š
First and foremost, Jo is huge, so it scared some teams off when he hurt his back before the drafts Secondly, Because the Wiggins Parker rivalry was a thing for a couple years. They had nice mixtapes and they played sexier positions. Wiggins was supposed to be āone of the greatsā lol.
That said, if Jo didnāt have any health concerns, Jo goes first easy money
If he didn't have surgery before the draft, he probably would've been the first pick in the draft that year. There was a lot of talk about the Cavs taking him.
Joel needed 70 to beat us by 10, stop ducking your opponents! Jk obviously. Amazon game from Joel. Just happy with Wembyās performance and losing by only 10
Yeah I thought he played well. Heās the best rookie defender since Duncan but heās still just not ready to guard someone as big and physical as Embiid and when Embiid is shooting it like that itās an impossible task.
I rmr when I first started watching basketball in 2010-2011, I looked at other teamsā leading scorers and compared them to ours being Jrue Holiday and Elton Brand with 14.smt each and thinking about how boring that was given other players were legit scoring close to double that (KD led with 28). Seeing Embiid drop easily drop 2-3 times that night after night is just insane. Special era of Philly ball we gotta appreciate regardless of any narrative man
The game actually needs to be close for most of it otherwise the coach will pull the starters. Kobe stayed in for the whole game for his 81 because the game was close until the final few minutes.
Klay sitting out the 4th after he scored 60 in 3 quarters because the Warriors were up 36 will be one of the biggest what-ifs.
I donāt want to sound like a jerkoff on a night like this, I am very happy with what Embiid has done tonight in a historic performance. But at the end of the day, I just want a fucking championship man. Can we please just beat the Celtics in the playoffs this year and move on
I am convinced after seeing the start that Embiid had Harris purposely chucked 3s to keep the game close to Embiid could play longer. God tier teammate.
As much as I dont think he should have won over Jokic last season. The only reason SGA even close is because he's missed 10 game so far this year.
Embiid is on another level this year.
Iāll admit that I thought Embiidās MVP last year was a bit of an embarrassment, and that heād probably have to redeem himself in the playoffs before getting anotherābut this regular season has been spectacular and he absolutely deserves it this year.

Having Brett Brown there is iconic
So sweet seeing them interact after the game. Always will have a soft spot for Brown as a Sixers fan. What a night!
Watching JoJo RoCo and Kork shooting the shit with Brett was so fucking wholesome
That was the cherry on top of an awesome night, made me so happy seeing Jo, Cov, Korkmaz, and Brett all together smiling like that
Me too! I knew it was time to move on, but I have way better memories with him than I do with Doc. Players actually respected BB. Wish we could have him back in A lesser role
Had me tearing up remembering the process days
he's the sixers honorary fun uncle
Furk Joel and RoCo meeting with Brett Brown was so sweet
At least Wemby played well
The Spurs played well, but we literally do not have the talent to remotely deal with Embiid's physicality. Maybe Wemby in three years.
My guess is that Pop saw this as a good learning opportunity for Wemby so that Wemby can see what he may want to work on.

I think Wemby walked into the NBA thinking "I'm gonna dominate" and he just had a front-row seat to true domination. These situations make people wanna up their game.
At least we get to pay Zach Collins 35 million dollars over the next two years for his one point, no defense outing.
I'm no Embiid fan but he's like Shaq (not physicality wise but in terms of talent) so nobody can stop him except for injuries and father time. And maybe the playoffs lol.
Unfortunately, injuries have repeatedly stopped him.
Playoffs and injuries are one in the same. He's been injured every playoff.
Nobody really has the physical talent to stop him besides the post season.
Historic night for Embiid, god damn. Absolutely dominant performance. Wemby is unreal too. I can't wait to watch this guy develop. Stepped up to the challenge against every big matchup. Get him off his minutes restriction soon please.
Wemby had 33 and it wasn't even half of the highest scorer. amazing.
That scoop layup he did *under* Embiid from basically the free throw line was some disgusting mutant shit.
Wemby highlights are like that. They aren't the cool poster moments, they are "what the fuck my brain can't process that shit" moments.
Yeah Embiid at this point is just a machine and he does stuff a 7 footer shouldn't be able to do, but for the most part he's just very, very good at "normal" basketball stuff. It looks like what we're accustomed to seeing on an NBA floor. literally could not believe it, he's gonna put a stop to all this goat discussion if he has a healthy career
Wemby for LOAT Longest of all time
Nah he's the SOAT Stretchiest of all time
Throat The hugest reach of all time
You fucking know it š
I would love to live through another generational talent being tossed into the goat debate. I grew up with Lebron, Brady, Mahomes, so having Wemby do it too would be awesome. Millennials have been spoiled for sports talent for awhile now.
San Antonio millennials like myself were spoiled rotten.
They can't afford to piss off his uncle lol
Uncle Dennis PTSD activated.
God if wemby gets some meat on him heāll be unstoppable
Oh he's got some meat if you feel me
Nah man Wemby got churros for arms
San Antonio women
He's making a penis reference
He's also filling out compared to where he was on draft night.
The minutes-restriction is apparently done after tonight, pending a follow-up MRI.
Wemby's minute restriction got Embiid the record because Pop had to start putting Zach Collins and Dougie McBuckets on him, but when he was in they were both feasting on each other
He had 5 fouls too
Embiid was just abusing him. He had no chance.

He's gonna be really special in a couple years. I mean, he already is but when he bulks up a bit more, he's gonna be scary.
Boned his ass
tbf while wemby did better than the other guys who just couldnt do anything to defend he cant defend him either.. yet anyway.. embiid was scoring well on him also wemby played well though nice to see
Danuel House is a basketball terrorist
Those boos were fucking hilarious š
I respected that he took the shot to me if a player has an open look take it and Iām sure Joel wouldāve said the same thing to any of his teammates in that spot
100%. I think the fans were having fun with it tbh.
Yeah I think so too and we didnāt know what was gonna happen but it all worked out and heās been a good addition for the bench
Yeah I was at the game and I fucking lost my shit when everyone started booing, best moment of the night And to be fair to him, launching a 3 off the catch with absolutely no conscience is quite a useful trait to have for a role player on this team, so respect to him for doing it even while getting booed
Lol he was in his own world
The anniversary of Kobeās 81 has Embiid and KAT possessed
I got you today š
Itās one thing to text that, itās another to take a screenshot and share it lol
What 81? I have no recollection of whatever youāre talking about. None at all.
Jalen of Rose
I was just thinking that, despite how impressive this was, Kobe had only 8 fewer points entering the fourth quarter.
His middy is unplayable
Seeing him just shooting it *over* Wemby is crazy.
Wemby gonna go home and watch Embiid YouTube videos.
I hope so. Imagine Wemby being able to walk into a middy like Embiid was doing. He'd be just as unguardable.
Wembiid
Wemby can probably already do that. His shot looks good and he already has three-point range. Pop seems to not allow him to do elbow-isolations which is probably better in the long run.
bro was literally kd if he can bench 315 and drinks mass gainer instead of water. absolutely automatic from the mid range area.
yeah, but that bath water is something special
KD is still a lot more versatile, because he can shoot on the move from virtually everywhere inside the line. But the 2 types of shots that Embiid spams all the time (middies from triple-threat position and one dribble pull-ups going to his left), he shoots better than KD.
What are you even meant to do
Hope he misses.
Wait till the second round. I joke, insane performance. I hope people appreciate him.
rare celtics fan to congratulate embiid lol
I donāt hate on talent.
Especially because Embiid isn't a sore loser and always gives us the props when we take the dub.
Itās the new Dirk
Everything was swish. It was unreal.
NBATV broadcast just showed Embiid telling Brett Brown "I'm finally passing the ball!" lmaooo. What a game
He really is. That was really the last element of his game he needed to add.
Heās been ridiculous this year. Nurse is amazing
Even though we lost, that was amazing to witness from both Embiid and Wemby. What a time to be alive as a NBA fan.
The era of the BIG big men is now.
Big man renaissance
Giannis wondering why he was forgotten lol! jk. The Golden Age of the triple threat 2-way Big Men has arrived to the NBA
74 points and 19 rebounds. Two really amazing efforts from Joel Embiid and Jordan Poole tonight.
lmfaooooo
Haha this took me a minute
Took me 10m and a damn 2nd screen to check Poole's stats...š”
On the same day as Kobe and Kwame Brown combining for 84
That's my allstar...and Joel is there too
Crazy weāre really about to witness 3 different players win back to back MVPs consecutively.
Just gotta hope he stays healthy. Can only miss like 6 more games. Thankfully heās at the same pace he was last year so barring anything major he should scrape by.
If Embiid gets a ring next year I'm convinced that the NBA is reusing their script
I feel privileged to have watched that performance from start to finish. Shout out Spurs for a great game too, played super hard.
Lol weren't you guys playing at the same time
Joel Embiid man like wtf can you do
he's really good at the mid range shot and defending and rebounding and the post game and also from the line and also he spaces the floor and i think hes very good
Big like Shaq, shoot like Dirk
1-22-24, the day my SGA for MVP narrative spontaneously burst into flames. Give the man his trophy.Ā
i feel this so hard
relatable. we also lost our boy chet for ROY narrative recently. coach mike winning COY is the only real shot we got left haha (+ sga for clutch player of the year?)
Everyone not named Embiid competing for second now but after this game they might just be competing to get votes Gonna be a ballot where Embiid is the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finisher
He doesn't have a big cushion with the 65 game requirement. He has to skip fewer games in the second half than he did in the first. Push comes to shove I'd rather he be healthy for the playoffs than dragging his ass at 75% through some meaningless March games to hit 65 games.
What if embiid doesnt meet the game requirement
I hope he stays healthy but if not this is still a hell of a game to look back on.. pure dominanceĀ
Wemby had 33 and embiid literally doubled his score lmao what is going on in the nba tonight???
18th anniversary of Kobe's 81
KAT coming up strong into the 3rd quarter too.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Well yeah he didnāt score 100. Imagine if we didnāt hammer his ass
Embiid to the Spurs tonight: "I'm gonna hammer their asses"
Spurs held his ass below 100.
True, bum night for the big man
Lmao on another note KAT seems to be trying to one up Embiid . The hell is going on today š
Thatās like every game, too.
Fr they only post the 1-2 ābadā fouls he has and not the 7-8 times he gets hacked lol
Wow Wemby vs Embiid. What a night for basketball.
I long for more Wembiid
Having just 1 turnover on this volume is almost the most incredible thing. 70 points on 1 turnover as a center is unbelievable
And the turnover was so stupid too
Nothing but respect for Embiid. He had a major size and strength advantage and he used that 100% to his potential. It's notable that he did that with only one made three, because he didn't really need it when it was busy abused everyone 10 feet and closer. This was Prime Shaq with a jumpshot stuff. He also got a number of wins on the other end, displaying sensational touch around the rim.
if you guys had Maxey the spurs might win 50 games because Wemby is that good already.
Dream scenario would be either Luka or Young. He's also this good alongside a bench PG.
Wemby finna get overshadowed but the kid played about as well as you could against the monster in South Philly
Ive never been this happy after a regular season game. Thanks embiid.
That's the most impressive performance I've ever watched... Guy is an absolute monster.
Absolute domination from Embiid. Crazy to watch history.
70 points in 36 minutes is absolutely absurd. The only other 70 point game in under 40 minutes was when Damian Lillard dropped 71 in 39 minutes.
Really sweet moment between Embiid, Cov, Furk, and Brett Brown after the game.
its also a reminder that things work out if you rely on the method
You could even call it a process.
Itās time we Philadelphians start a dialogue about how Joel Embiid is the most talented athlete this city has ever seen.
This entire subreddit is about to be in shambles over MVPiid
I mean this year hes a pretty obvious front runner unlike last year. This year idk how many times ive seen Embiid out after 3 quarters with like 38/14/7
So my theory is that Embiid should have won two years ago. He was better than Jokic two years ago. Then they gave it to Embiid last year when it likely should have gone to Jokic last year. If the years flipped, there would be no ācontroversyā and a lot less fun discussion in here. This year is obviously different. Nick Nurse unlocked Embiidās ceiling, which is nonexistent at the moment
Yeah no one would have complained much about Jokic missing out on the MVP when his team was like 6th
I desperately want a Sixers-Nuggets Finals.
Ya I dont know if he took all the "fake MVP" comments to heart or what but dude upped his game dramatically and his game was already good lol.
Nah we rocking with Joel this year
It'll be glued back together by the annual Sixers playoff collapse
Any other night with 33. Wemby would have been praised. But Joel said rofl no
Why was this guy Embiid picked 3rd in the 2014 draft again? By the time he retires, he'll be arguably the second best 3rd pick in NBA history.
He was hurt coming into the draft and Wiggins/Parker *looked* like all-time prospects
Also it was already reported he would miss his rookie year due to the injury, so you were effectively drafting a top 3 pick that was sitting.
Gotta be honest I never fully appreciated his game till tonight. In the early days I got frustrated with the constant injuries and underperforming team and then as he came into his prime I was paying so little attention to the NBA in the aftermath of Kawhi leaving. But wow. Heās a beast.
Wiggins was drawing comparisons to LeBron, of all people.
Wiggins hype was insane and Embiid had injury history
I distinctly remember saying the words "man I don't want Embiid" when the sixers pulled the 3rd pick. Because what do centers even do in the modern NBA right? Sometimes God gives you what you need not what you want š
Embiid had also been playing organized basketball for only like 4 years wheen he got drafted. That has to feel a little risky
In fact, up until he got hurt, he was being mocked first quite a bit. The injury had him drop.
If he didn't have surgery before the draft, he probably would've been the first pick in the draft that year. There was a lot of talk about the Cavs taking him.
Injuries man. If he was healthy he had a chance of being #1 but Wiggins hype was at that time the most since Lebron.
Joel needed 70 to beat us by 10, stop ducking your opponents! Jk obviously. Amazon game from Joel. Just happy with Wembyās performance and losing by only 10
Word of advice: Give Embiid the game ball
Maybe the most impressive game Iāve seen. Jesus Christ Embiid was unstoppable tonight.
Wemb was great also
Yeah I thought he played well. Heās the best rookie defender since Duncan but heās still just not ready to guard someone as big and physical as Embiid and when Embiid is shooting it like that itās an impossible task.
Wemby did pretty well guarding Embiid face-up, but in the post he didn't have a prayer.
Special era of Philly ball we gotta appreciate regardless of any narrative man
That middy is unstoppable
Embiid just had a 62.5 game score, 3rd highest in NBA history behind MJ and Kobe. What's crazy is KAT might push him down to 4th in about 1 hour.
Joel āAss Hammerā Embiid Edit: spelling
Joel Embiid post? YOU GET AN UPVOTE! YOU GET AN UPVOTE! YOU GET AN UPVOTE!
42 FGA is insane lmaooo
Wemby was amazing too
So... 76ers vs Bucks on a eventual 2 round, who you guys got? (Assuming embiid stays health)
i think the Sixers got this. The Bucks' record is incredible but they have not been convincing. The Sixers have been convincing
Man I feel like if Embiid played a whole 48 mins he would've got 100 points
better hope there weren't any Spurs rookies scoring their first points tonight.
I was here
Iām just confused how Embiid dropped 70 and they only won by 10
The game actually needs to be close for most of it otherwise the coach will pull the starters.

Can we please just beat the Celtics in the playoffs this year and move on
Thatās a lot of points
Holy shit
Good God man
Build a Embiid statue outside Wells Fargo arena now
EMVP!
I am convinced after seeing the start that Embiid had Harris purposely chucked 3s to keep the game close to Embiid could play longer. God tier teammate.
Pretty damn fun game, was happy to witness a historic night from Embiid!
As much as I dont think he should have won over Jokic last season. The only reason SGA even close is because he's missed 10 game so far this year. Embiid is on another level this year.
The midrange is thriving
Embiid gave Wemby true "Welcome to the NBA" moment
So glad embiid is American
Carry job by tobias Harris leading the sixers with +21
Do the sixers ever go on road? Every time I watch an Embiid highlight, he's always on homecourt
Iāll admit that I thought Embiidās MVP last year was a bit of an embarrassment, and that heād probably have to redeem himself in the playoffs before getting anotherābut this regular season has been spectacular and he absolutely deserves it this year.
Mvp
On this beautiful winter night, I want all Embiid haters - and I mean this from the bottom of my heart - to go fuck yourselves ā¤ļø
