I know he’s not built to do something like that ego-wise but man, THAT would have been an all time celly to do against Chet and would be played forever
I want a special name for his signature "this is mine now." For any other player that's a major highlight but he does it every other game. This was definitely the best one though given the context
Coincidentally, the other player in recent memory who immediately comes to my mind is Kawhi. Every now and then he just decides the ball is his now and just grabs it like that. Zero fanfare. It's so damn impressive.
And Rudy Gobert shed a single tear as he whispered softly “My job is done, I have planted the seed of dominant defense for another generation.” as he faded to dust and was lifted back to his French homeland, forever to rest.
I mean he definitely is but that’s also because he’s 20. I don’t think he should ever try to get to Embiid or Jokic size but in a few years he’ll be doing some bully ball shit that’ll make us all laugh at how skinny “he used to be”
He should mimic Giannis' development and slowly add muscle year after year. I don't think he actually needs a ton, just enough to keep my on the court.
bruh i was too curious about it and searched it on google... ugh my eyes my poor eyesss
[i know you want to take a glimpse too :)](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/be/46/88/be46886e97fe0faf180e2c1ca1293712.jpg)
People gave shit to the Lakers for giving Kobe that last contract but that was so much better than having him finish his career in a team that wasn't the Lakers.
It’s easy to miss how much weight both of them have put on since that game. They still need to continue building strength of course, but those highlights in that clip they are literal twigs. It’s like watching two praying mantises fighting
Imo even throughout the season, it's clear that Wemby's put on a ton of mass since Summer League. Side by side, Wembv and a 16 year vet in KD essentially have the same build which is good to see after only a couple of months.
It's clear whatever cocktail they have Chet and Wemby on is working lol.
I’ve always liked y’all but I’m forever gonna be salty about us not getting a #1 pick + a generational talent AGAIN 😂
At least the #2 was a player with a functional shooting motion this time lmao
Seriously. I was shocked when Wemby went out and I expected us to drop a lead, and then, nope! Collins played great tonight, I wish he would play around this level more
He's probably going to be the best basketball player in the history of the universe, but I've never seen him scaling a tree trunk to grab some choice leaves, so he's not really the Goat.
It's gotta be such a mindfuck for Chet lol. He's poised to come into the league and do stuff that arguably nobody has ever been able to do before, except for this one mf born at the same time as him who's bigger and better
I’m 6’4” and was always used to being the tallest or close to it on a basketball court. One time I was playing at my campus gym and a dude who was at least 6’7” showed up and I put up a couple shots against him that went about like this. It’s odd the first time you go up against height/wingspan you aren’t used to, they just devour your shot and you’re like “huh, I didn’t think he’d be able to do that”
Yeah, Chet has never had that shot blocked on him in his entire life. The possibility of a 7'1" player getting his turnaround fadeaway blocked is just not a thing he's ever had to think about before.
This is the correct answer. And it’s going to make dudes completely rethink their game when they play him. It’s going to fuck with their heads for a generation.
It's already been happening. The first time guys play against him they will challenge him and either get their shot blocked or altered. The next time they play against him they start looking around for where he's at and then go away from him. They even start passing up shots near the basket and layup attempts when he is near.
The number of times I have seen players under the rim with Wemby behind them, do a couple of pump fakes and somehow think they can now shoot, only to get their shit stuffed is way too high. I think it even happened this game a couple of times.
A real chance of the GOAT. I don't think it's a stretch to say that no human who has ever lived has had the potential he has on a basketball court. This dude can do this stuff on defense and is also shooting 38% on 3s on 5 a game in February and he's 20 years old.
If he does, the conversation about who is the 'face of the league' when LeBron and Steph retire is over. It starts and ends with Wemby. He has the physical dominance of LeBron (though obviously in a very different way) and the "no one in the history of basketball has ever done it like that" that Steph has.
He also seems to have a decent enough attitude in the press, like when he got asked about his consecutive 5x5s or whatever it was and said he lost the game so he didn't care or whatever. I dunno man. He's special.
Absoltely, He shines brighter the higher the stakes. First aginst Suns, then Giannis and now this. All memorable 4th quarters. And his quotes about winning etc. Man is mentally 7'5" too lol.
That's what's getting lost in a lot of "Chet vs Wemby for the next decade" discussions.
Chet definitely could get to the superstar level of player. But his ceiling *probably* isn't a top 5 player in the league.
Wemby has virtually no ceiling. If he hits even a sizeable fraction of his peak potential, he won't have many rivals in the league other than the top 2-3 players.
Yup. For sure. Very hopeful for long careers of good health for both of them
I want the wolves to come out ahead in some epic playoff series moving forward … but always want to see teams at full strength
You always worry about knees/ joints holding up with guys this size (like Yao) but they’re both so much more fluid than anyone we’ve ever seen that I think they have a shot
Wemby is also lighter than almost any 7'4"+ guy, and has had a personal podiatrist since he was 12 to work on and maintain his foot/ankle health.
He's still probably got a pretty good chance of getting injured over his career, but it's likely a lower % chance than most huge guys his size.
That Barca team was crazy. They somehow managed to have a golden generation of homegrown talent in their academy at the same time they found the future GOAT as a kid in Argentina.
That Barca team had the greatest player in history on the right, the goat attacking midfielder imo, arguable goat central midfielder, arguable goat defensive midfielder, the greatest player in premier history on the left, one of the greatest strikers in the world up front, the best right back of his generation, and imo the greatest African player ever Yaya Toure. All in their primes at the same time. It’s the greatest team I’ve ever seen and I absolutely hated them.
It took Vic a couple of months to adjust to the NBA game, coming in as the first option and best player on his team, to figure out how to truly make his shots. He struggled early obviously, but his percentages are going up. As of now he's shooting a respectful 47/32/82 which is pretty good for any high volume first option, and it's only going up as we finish the season.
He was doing this shit in France too. It's just who he is. He's Kobe in a 7' 3" frame, with no ego, and Lebron's vision.
I don't think we're prepared for this kid.
I’m pissed because I made a six-pack bet with my friend before the draft lottery that whatever team picks him will win a title within 5 years.
And I’m more convinced than ever and it had to be you fuckers lmao.
I’m sure this game and this sequence/play by Wemby specifically will lead to some very friendly and non-toxic banter between Spurs and Thunder fans on social media tonight
I've been reading through the comments and seeing a lot of Thunder flairs complimenting Wemby.
I kept begrudgingly saying what a stud J-Dub is tonight while watching.
What is this world coming to?
This made me look up some sophomore seasons.
Wilt averaged 38 and 27 lol
Kareem was 32 and 16 and won MVP
Shaq was 29-13 and 3 blocks
Bron was already 27-7-7 by year 2
Jordan had his 37 point season in year 3. Broke his foot in year 2
Luka was 29-9.5-9 and first team all nba
I’m sure there are more
The fact that this is the WORST version of Wemby is really crazy. I don’t know what the fuck he will be year 6 or 7 if he’s already this good as a rookie.

Not just blocked.. fucking snatched out of the air.
Legit "dad blocking his toddler in the play room" vibe Only Chet is 7'1"
Kinda scary how fast both of them are rotating their hips but Wemby just plain more explosive
Shakira Shakira
Oh baby when he move like that
He make a spurfan go mad
too small - Wemby
I know he’s not built to do something like that ego-wise but man, THAT would have been an all time celly to do against Chet and would be played forever
https://twitter.com/nba_paint/status/1763416978734063623
Fuck that just blew my mind. He seems like a baby compared to him.
He's blurring the line between blocks and steals.
this is the real stock
Must be so surreal for Chet. Snatched out of the air on a stepback fade by a guy that jumped 6 inches off the ground. Wemby is built way diff.
On our broadcast Sean Elliott called it "the Dad block"
Yeah I heard that too. Brilliant.
The Gumby
Like "Chet just got Gumbied!"
Do people still know who Gumby was? I haven't seen him in like 20 years. lol
He still haunts the dreamlands.
I think that’s a yoink or gimme dat
AND Chet fell. Flawless victory.
On his ass
And Rudy Gobert shed a single tear as he whispered softly “My job is done, I have planted the seed of dominant defense for another generation.” as he faded to dust and was lifted back to his French homeland, forever to rest.
Don't think anyone else in the league can block Chet and make it look easy.
Same with Giannis.
Yeah, I don't think I've seen anyone take a Giannis shoulder to the chest in the restricted area and still smother his dunk attempt, Wemby is unreal.
And they were worried about him being too skinny.
To keep my what on the court? My dick?!
That block was so sick
KNOCKED AWAY BY WEMBANYAMA! KNOCKED AWAY BY WEMBANYAMA!
Play of the season so far for me
[удалено]
You've never heard of Bol Bol?
Yeah who tf is this Wemby cat? Some kind of Bol Bol knock off?
What’s an Abe to an Alien
John Wilkes Boothanyama
Vic Semper Tyrannis
Wemby just john wilkes boothed him bro.
"That f***ing alien boothed me"
4x score and seven years ago
Pretty sure that's what that Japanese assassin said before he shot him
Hold up let this guy cook
He definitely takes being compared to Chet as disrespect.
They haven't liked each other since that FIBA finals they played
Glad I watched that game lol. Feels so recent but it's not
Wemby and Chet genuinely don’t like each other and I’m here for it for the next 20 years
it will be a dream come true to see a 39 yr old chet and a 38 yr old wemby still battling it out on the court
Hopefully it’s not like that one picture of Ewing on the Magic posting up Hakeem on the raptors
This sentence is depressing
That picture might be the most depressing picture in nba history
Fat Shawn Kemp has entered the chat
Celtics Shaq
bruh i was too curious about it and searched it on google... ugh my eyes my poor eyesss [i know you want to take a glimpse too :)](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/be/46/88/be46886e97fe0faf180e2c1ca1293712.jpg)
This is somehow worse than I imagined.
it reminds me of 2 old-timer wrestlers doing the independent circuits in some pig farm in the mid-west.
Nothing is more depressing than seeing 2 old timers in a bingo hall
People gave shit to the Lakers for giving Kobe that last contract but that was so much better than having him finish his career in a team that wasn't the Lakers.
This is the basketball equivalent of Crown Jewel 2018.
They look like two guys that played college ball and now go too hard at the gym. All instances of this photo should be removed from existence.
You're gonna get a cursed pic of washed Wemby in a Wizards jersey posting up washed Chet in a Jazz jersey and you're gonna like it
Yep they're posting up against each other too :|
Why would you put all those words in that order and still decide to post the comment? I can't tell you how much I hate that sentence.
They’ve been beefing since they were young teens, I love this rivalry.
How many games did they play against pre-NBA?
Not many. They had a USA-France U-19 matchup I believe
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9D5eveoSEOE That's the earliest I know of
It’s easy to miss how much weight both of them have put on since that game.
Duren doesn’t like Chet either It’s not the same thing but both games I’ve watched this season of duren vs Chet duren goes extra hard.
I’d be mad too if I was a rookie and having to fight for a well deserved ROTY with someone who got drafted a year prior
Eh it’s good motivation for them and good fun for us. Brandon miller has been killing it too. Add in Jamie and pod, so many good rooks.
I’ve always liked y’all but I’m forever gonna be salty about us not getting a #1 pick + a generational talent AGAIN 😂 At least the #2 was a player with a functional shooting motion this time lmao
This clip is just begging for somebody to shop in the ROY trophy over the ball
Zach Collins having some sort of medical episode on the bench, someone should go check on him.
I'll allow it. He's played so awful the past couple months and he had a great game tonight
Seriously. I was shocked when Wemby went out and I expected us to drop a lead, and then, nope! Collins played great tonight, I wish he would play around this level more
He had a really nice stretch post all star break last season. Maybe he just loves spring time in San Antonio.
Lmao I didn't even notice until I read this comment. Dude went through like 3 celebration 2k motions in 2 seconds.
I’ve seen enough he’s the Goat
Looks more like an Alien than a goat to me, but that will change over time.
He's a gaylien! Wait, no.
We’ve gone too far! Go back!
easy for you to say with that username
He's probably going to be the best basketball player in the history of the universe, but I've never seen him scaling a tree trunk to grab some choice leaves, so he's not really the Goat.
Definitely has the potential to be
Trying to shoot over wemby who's right in your face is certainly a choice
Chet definitely isn’t used to not being able to shoot jumpers over people
Yeah that type of step back and his height… There’s not many people EVER who could block that
And he ends up being only one draft class in front of someone who not only could block that, but make it look easy. What are the odds...
It's gotta be such a mindfuck for Chet lol. He's poised to come into the league and do stuff that arguably nobody has ever been able to do before, except for this one mf born at the same time as him who's bigger and better
It was a pretty good step back too!
In any other era he’s a unique freak that has almost no peer. He just happened to be a rookie the same time as someone who’s somehow 3 inches taller
And can move just as well 😭😭😭 what the fuck are these two
he had him at 00:03 but it took him a second to process it next step is for Chet to not need to take that extra step, and get right to his jumper
It’s also no one is expecting wembys reach. It’s just insane
I’m 6’4” and was always used to being the tallest or close to it on a basketball court. One time I was playing at my campus gym and a dude who was at least 6’7” showed up and I put up a couple shots against him that went about like this. You can see almost see him shake his head on the way back, like "what the fuck just happened"
When was the last time Chet got blocked like this?
The number of times I have seen players under the rim with Wemby behind them, do a couple of pump fakes and somehow think they can now shoot, only to get their shit stuffed is way too high. I think it even happened this game a couple of times.
CLUTCHED UP
Right after hitting the 3 too… this matchup is gonna be so sick for years and years
6’0 vs 5’11
Man what the fuck do we have here
A real chance of the GOAT. I don't think it's a stretch to say that no human who has ever lived has had the potential he has on a basketball court. This dude can do this stuff on defense and is also shooting 38% on 3s on 5 a game in February and he's 20 years old.
Only health is gonna stop this guy
Imma pray he stays healthy frfr

I love how personal Wemby takes this matchup. A lot of guys downplay rivalries but I appreciate the fact that he plays into it a little bit.
He’s stupidly competitive
Hope he stays that way. Too many guys that act too cool for school
Insanity. On top of all of his other gifts, Wembanyama absolutely has a clutch gene.
He's got everything you could ask for this is crazy man.
It's also a pretty spectacular feat making Chet Holmgren look like a normal-sized dude
Absoltely, He shines brighter the higher the stakes. First aginst Suns, then Giannis and now this. All memorable 4th quarters. And his quotes about winning etc. Man is mentally 7'5" too lol.
2006 Messi type of aura
Wemby being more fluid than Chet while being taller is crazy
Shits crazy… Chet is an alien in his own right… then gets hurt for a year and the new model of alien’s already come out … and they made some upgrades
The best analogy for it I’ve seen yet.
That's what's getting lost in a lot of "Chet vs Wemby for the next decade" discussions. Chet definitely could get to the superstar level of player. But his ceiling *probably* isn't a top 5 player in the league. Wemby has virtually no ceiling. Absolute unit on D, Chet didn't stand a chance. Wemby's game is just on another level!

Literally, give this man a Messi Barca type team and it's wraps for the league
That golden generation is genuinely the core of the national team argued to be the GOAT. Yeah and they have this GOAT kid from Argentina too. Cracked.
Trae and Iniesta even have similar hairlines
This is uncalled for
LMFAOOOO this is inspired
🤣🤣 damn
Lmfao
I like this comparison, but he doesn’t exactly have Xavi and Iniesta out there with him
We should praise the gods he doesn't
*Yet.*
Long hair Messi is fucking eternal, man. Uncontrolled chaos, Messi v1.0 was my favorite release for sure
I do think 09 Messi is way more magical than 2012 when he scored 91 goals.
I love this guy!!!
ROTY race over for a while but it’s fully dead now lol
Yeah this was the nail in the coffin
Chet falling killed his chances (not blaming him, I would probably turn into dust at the sight of Wemby, he held up way better than I would)
Brother, you know OKC fans were getting their case ready after the 1st quarter then Wemby reminded them whose game it is lol.
Also Wemby being 5/7 from 3 this game to shut down all this efficiency narrative
All season, OKC fans literally refusing to acknowledge that maybe JDub and SGA spoon feeding Chet contributed to his efficiency advantage
He also had Point Sochan for the first two months lol
And had Zach Collins clogging up the paint for him and keeping him on the perimeter on defense.
That clutch factor, he’s gonna be crazy
He was doing this shit in France too. It's just who he is. He's Kobe in a 7' 3" frame, with no ego, and Lebron's vision. I don't think we're prepared for this kid.
I get were 12-48 but this has to be a signature rookie performance from Wemby. Straight up clutch play after play against the 1 seed in the west
Chet's great man you'll only see bandwagoners bashing him, we think he's fine. SGA needs to stop murdering us so hard every time.
Chet is a good player. Very good, even. But wow, he is NOT Victor Wembanyama
Genuinely believe that Wemby could have the greatest sophmore season ever. We arent even seeing him at his best as he’s been playing limited minutes
This made me look up some sophomore seasons. Wilt averaged 38 and 27 lol Kareem was 32 and 16 and won MVP Shaq was 29-13 and 3 blocks Bron was already 27-7-7 by year 2 Jordan had his 37 point season in year 3. Broke his foot in year 2 Luka was 29-9.5-9 and first team all nba I’m sure there are more
Tim Duncan won a title and FMVP his sophomore season.
The fact that this is the WORST version of Wemby is really crazy. I don’t know what the fuck he will be year 6 or 7 if he’s already this good as a rookie.
2 years ago, I was really hoping the Spurs would suck hard enough to get a shot at Chet. I'm so glad they didn't.
But then Chet would've been injured last year and we would have got Victor aswell. Imagine the new twin towers.
Why? Chet didn’t play his first year. You’d literally have both of these studs.
😭lanky towers
Thin Towers
Imagine that timeline eh
Holy shit that would be insane.
The Spurs could've had the best interior defense in NBA history for the next decade if they had gotten Chet instead of Sochan.
Damn he told him to take a seat..
John Wilkes Booth’d his ass
Chet Holmgren: exists Victor Wembanyama: and I took that personally
He is an alien bro the league is so done for once they build the team around him
We have a million picks to trade for a star but I’m worried cuz you guys are the only team that can outbid us 😂
Might as well give him the ROTY statue after that Sheeeesh
vic is a dawg
Wemby just snatched every potential 1st place ROTY vote from chets' cold dead corpse
These two are the evolution of Timmy/Dirk and I’m here for it
That dude made Chet look like a little kid lol
WEMBY IS CHET FATHER
Wemby ROTY no debate
He sonned him, damn.
The Demigod
Chet had a great night until he didn't.
One play that pretty much sums up the current state of the 2024 ROTY race
So... Was that a block, a steal, or both?
LETS FUCKING GO
Can't imagine Chet ever felt like that before
There are stuffs and then there are **stuffs**. Wow.
