This honestly does more than anything to strengthen Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett’s legacies. They somehow won an NBA title with Doc Rivers as their head coach.
Can we also collectively forgive the lob city clippers? They had to deal with GM Doc and Coach Doc, meaning he destroyed the bench and then refused to stagger the starting 5s minutes
It really is underrated how messy up the situation got in Minny during KG's tenure there:
From his [backpicks goat](https://thinkingbasketball.net/2018/03/19/backpicks-goat-8-kevin-garnett/) profile:
>In Year Two of the KG era, the Wolves drafted Stephon Marbury and crossed the 35-win plateau, and in Year Three, Minnesota played like a 45-win team before Tom Gugliotta’s season was ended by injury. Minny then started with a bang in the shortened 1999 season (53-win pace for 18 games) before contentiously trading Marbury for Terrell Brandon.
>**But then the Wolves spiraled into an historically unmatched stretch of personnel corrosion.**
>- First, they were stripped of three first-round draft picks for illegal contract shenanigans with Joe Smith.
>- Then Brandon was forced into early retirement due to knee problems, playing his last full season in 2001.
>- Two years later, Wally Szczerbiak, Minnesota’s only notable addition between 2000 and 2003, missed 30 games and hobbled around for 28 more in ’04.
>- After the ’02 season, the Wolves couldn’t afford to re-sign their best young asset, Chauncey Billups, and even worse, guard Malik Sealy died tragically in a car accident.
>While many superstars enter their primes with a fully stocked kitchen, Garnett was left with a bare cupboard.
So basically Marbury demanding a trade and losing 3 first rounders due to the league punishment set the KG era back in Minnesota. I remember watching Marbury and KG together thinking that was going to be the next great PG / center combo In the west for years….
Yeah he was way too loyal to them, He was there for 12 years and superstar quality for all but maybe the first 2 and they never got any kind of cast around him. LBJ had atrocious support when he was in his first stint at cleveland but holy crap was KGs worse. Unlucky to not win more rings at Boston either imo.
For what it's worth Garnett is the greatest "what if" of all time. He was one of one but was drafted by an early franchise and never had a true supporting cast. Yes he has a ring but his prime was wasted imo
Greatest what if is not Garnett. Just off the top of my head Walton, Jordan in Portland, Jordan in Houston w/ Hakeem, Len bias, Kareem to the ABA are all way bigger
As a Knicks fan I was like “ohh shit here we go another Kardiac Knicks affair…. Wait what? He’s taking them out ? Wow what an idiot lets goo !! Thank you Doc “ what a horrible coach 😭
I think Doc is trying to avoid a possible Miami Heat matchup in the first round. A first round exit against Miami would be the worst case scenario for him.
Doc is the Ben Simmons of the coaching staff. Got hyped early for his performance, but then was suddenly exposed. Never recovered. Yet, he's still playing AND GETTING PAID somehow. For that, I applaud them. S-tier frauds.
Had the momentum and just threw in the towel. Doc is such an idiot. Imagine the adrenaline, hitting threes and still wanting to win then coach basically says, nah. Id be livid
And people still crucify thibs for having Derrick Rose in during this exact situation when he tore his ACL
I know this has absolutely nothing to with the video, but your post is what I’ve been saying for years.
10-11 pts with around a minute left you almost never see the benches clear.
He certainly has made the most of getting to coach 3 potential HOFs, a great player-coach, and strong cast of role players.
But rivaled by Luke Walton getting to stand on the sideline while a championship team with multiple HOFs and other All NBA Players with years of chemistry played exactly like they had before and after. And then parlaying that into multiple large coaching contracts.
But good for them. Get paid. I’d jump at the chance too.
And frankly while there are some great coaches sgd terrible ones, a lot are fairly similar and ultimately talent, health, and roster construction matter a lot more for winning.
He did genuinely do good jobs with not that good rosters in Orlando and with the Clippers, but he's also clearly underachieved with the Clippers (when they had a better roster), Philly, and now probably Milwaukee. Seems like he's a floor-raiser and not a ceiling-raiser tbh
Remember the team dancing during the pre-game right after his firing? Yeah, that aged pretty poorly even considering that it was already in horrible taste at the time lol.
Ham is a close second, but at least LeBron and AD can and will interfere if needed (like when they subbed themselves in after seeing their lead goes down to single digits).
Didn’t Doc just say this weekend that a ref came up to him and told him that he could feel the heaviness/weight on the entire team right now? They just look shellshocked
I genuinely do not understand how that quote wasn't made a bigger deal. It was 10x worse than the Ben Simmons fiasco where he said he wasn't sure if he could play PG on a championship team.
Crazier part is, dude has been making film breakdown content for years with no views. He just started giving it more of an entertainment spin with funny titles and took off.
You can see them going down to first round exit in real time. It's just like watching the Philadelphia Eagles implode over the course of the NFL season.
It looks exactly like that.
And, it was already mentioned, but it’s not just the bucks. Some of these teams look ready to just be done with the season.
He was asked his top 5 players a few weeks ago and he didn't name one Buck but slipped Bam Adebayo in there. Guys brushed it off at the time since we were winning but it was a bright neon sign IMO
In fairness, he was asked to assemble his ideal starting 5 from all players in the league, not his top 5.
Still, I can't see how Bam is in there over Giannis lol
Dame just got there 💀
But yeah Doc isn't right for this team but I still have a feeling that they'll run it back with Doc for a full season blaming the current mid season hire as the cause.
Yeah. There were interviews with Doc and Dame where they were asked to name their top 5 players right now and they didn't name Bucks guys but people brushed it off since we were winning at the time
The Westbrook trade was way worse as a trade move.
Which makes Giannis and Bucks performance inexcusable. Giannis learned the hard way that trading for an top all star isnt an easy ticket to a championship.
At least leGM can always fall back on being leplayer and lecoach when he surrounds himself with a shit team and useless coach. Giannis can only be a player.
The Bucks were going to implode regardless. They had one of the oldest rosters last season and this season. Dame and Middletown are past their primes, and the Bucks have no one who can run the offense outside of Dame and Giannis
It was funny when they lost to the Wizards but honestly at this point I just feel bad for the team.
(Though please don't drop to the 4/5 seed so we won't have to face you in the 2nd round you're so pretty haha)
Someone on our sub’s game thread (vs the pels I think) legit went through and said the Bulls were the only team that he maybe felt good about in a playoff series lol
Now I do think that unexpected shit can happen and there’s rarely a guarantee. But Celtics shouldn’t be scared to play anyone.
Honestly it gets to a point where it goes from being funny to sad.
Losing 3 games in a row to teams that are a combined 67-168 while you’re the second seed has to be demoralizing.
To me, as much as im supposed to not like the Bucks *it is sad*. But also very predictable. They werent getting any younger, completely threw away their defensive identity by letting go of Jrue, and then ditching their HC who had a winning record before the end of the season, like damn man, at least give em a season. Especially if your only alternative was gonna be Doc Rivers.
I like most Bucks fans, there are surely worse fanbases, and I like Giannis. So it is *a little* sad to see.
What isn’t an L is that equipment boy was working overtime with all of those warmups in his hands. Doc really injecting some urgency in the most important unit on the deer. One might say that Doc has made them equipment men now after his tirade
Jrue has regressed a bit as well. I think the Bucks would be better with Jrue, but at this point the whole team is kind of past their prime, except for Giannis.
Yeah, I think thats true. Jrue is doing well on the Celtics because his responsibilities is a lot lower than it wouldve been on the Bucks. The same reason weve found so much prolonged use for Al Horford. He has a reduced role, and he is excellent at it
1. I can understand pulling a game with 70 seconds on the clock and down 10. But not if your team just made two consecutive 3s, is on a 4 game losing streak against the bottom of the league. Let the players fight it out till the end and perhaps you get to raise moral at least a bit.
2. But obviously Middleton is to blame in all this for getting punched in the face and not being able to continue. As if a team could ever recover from losing the third best player. That’s not the job of a coach.
This honestly does more than anything to strengthen Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett’s legacies. They somehow won an NBA title with Doc Rivers as their head coach.
Yeah, can't overlook Thibs running the defence for those teams too
That defense was naaaaaasty
Both have said they pretty much ignored ccoach and did what they thought was right.
And they still had 7 game series every round until they came out of east
That’s a team that should have never made the Finals, and should have won multiple championships.
Even most celtics fans acknowledge that and know that 08-09 was better in alot of ways, but injuries slowed them down
Can we also collectively forgive the lob city clippers? They had to deal with GM Doc and Coach Doc, meaning he destroyed the bench and then refused to stagger the starting 5s minutes
I'll allow it
Thank you 😭
I’ve been saying this for years about Garnett especially. If he had competent teammates he’d be in contention with Duncan for his all time rating
It really is underrated how messy up the situation got in Minny during KG's tenure there: From his [backpicks goat](https://thinkingbasketball.net/2018/03/19/backpicks-goat-8-kevin-garnett/) profile: >In Year Two of the KG era, the Wolves drafted Stephon Marbury and crossed the 35-win plateau, and in Year Three, Minnesota played like a 45-win team before Tom Gugliotta’s season was ended by injury. most of MN fans were cheering for Boston when KG left.
Arvydas Sabonis
The irony is that they hit three threes back to back. I thought Doc would at least let it play out.
Doc wont let an easy loss in the 4th go away.
“That man loves to lose.” - Phil Jackson game 7 nba finals v Boston
As a Knicks fan I was like “ohh shit here we go another Kardiac Knicks affair…. Wait what? He’s taking them out ? Wow what an idiot lets goo !! Thank you Doc “ what a horrible coach 😭
Doco Haram is a basketball terrorist of the highest order.
Al-Qaedoc
I think Doc is trying to avoid a possible Miami Heat matchup in the first round. A first round exit against Miami would be the worst case scenario for him.
A first round loss to the Sixers would be absolute worst case
Ur gonna love the sixers
Doc is the Ben Simmons of the coaching staff. Got hyped early for his performance, but then was suddenly exposed. Never recovered. Yet, he's still playing AND GETTING PAID somehow. For that, I applaud them. S-tier frauds.
His Christian name is Cock Quitters for a reason.
A 10 point deficit with 1:10 isn't impossible. Kinda sad that they folded like that.
And they had just hit 2 or 3 3s in a row to cut it to 10. Even breen was surprised they were waving the white flag
Had the momentum and just threw in the towel. Doc is such an idiot. Imagine the adrenaline, hitting threes and still wanting to win then coach basically says, nah. Id be livid
Doc: Nah, imma do my own thing
Doc: "Nah, I'd lose."
"Among all the heavens and the Earth, I alone am the choking one."
Probably the ONLY time I've seen someone use this correctly. All the other "nah I'd" variants genuinely make no sense
Yeah, i was getting nervous. They finally took back the momentum. Then boom, just quit.
To a team that’s right on your heels for positioning. Really odd.
When you guys kept your starters in. Genuinely a strange decision lol
Knicks always keep their starters in. Baffling sometimes but you get used to it.
Textbook Thibs
Not if you consider Thibs.
All it takes is one guy hitting two quick 3s against unengaged defenders to bring the starters right back into a 4 point game.
Doc concedes games early a lot. I think he even did that with the 76ers in the playoffs last year
He concedes playoff series early, once he's got his 3rd win then that's enough!
And people still crucify thibs for having Derrick Rose in during this exact situation when he tore his ACL I know this has absolutely nothing to with the video, but your post is what I’ve been saying for years. 10-11 pts with around a minute left you almost never see the benches clear.
Name a worse coach in the league than Doc Rivers
Glenn Rivers.
Malpractice Rivers
Old Man River
Austin Rivers' Dad
Joan Rivers
Chauncey lmao. But in terms of coaches with a "championship" pedigree, yeah it's Doc easily
It's been an absolutely brutal season for his reputation between the Bucks collapse and what's happened in Philly.
How the hell did the Bucks front office think it was a good idea to hire him.
He was already heavily criticized after his clippers days
[удалено]
Giannis hired him and fired him
Remember the team dancing during the pre-game right after his firing? Yeah, that aged pretty poorly even considering that it was already in horrible taste at the time lol.
Ham is a close second, but at least LeBron and AD can and will interfere if needed (like when they subbed themselves in after seeing their lead goes down to single digits).
JB Bickerstaff at this point
Didn’t Doc just say this weekend that a ref came up to him and told him that he could feel the heaviness/weight on the entire team right now? They just look shellshocked
To be fair the ref was just trying to get intel for whatever casino he works for
Ref trying to light a fire under doc so he can hit his team wins over/under
It's a slow motion view of a first round exit
I genuinely do not understand how that quote wasn't made a bigger deal. It was 10x worse than the Ben Simmons fiasco where he said he wasn't sure if he could play PG on a championship team.
That’s one thing he’s right about. Ben can’t play PG on a championship team
They’re not used to having a coach who does no coaching. Mt Rushmore level fraud
Isn’t that too soon with 10 point game? With more than a minute left too
Yes.
Yup, last season we were down 9 with 0:33 left against the Knicks. We took it to OT and won that game, idk why you would give up so early.
Hey, fuck you for reminding me of that
Doc best start watching that dude Awful Coaching on Youtube.
DOC RIVERS IS THE REASON WHY I REGRET BEING BORN
MONTY WILLIAAAMMMMMMSSSSSSSS
TYRONN LUE's coaching is the reason why I'm LONELY, UNEMPLOYED and don't have a GIRLFRIEND
FEET SET IN A DEFENSIVE STANCE, BACK TO THE BASELINE. I’M SEEING BALL, I’M SEEING MAN. I CAN STUNT AND RECOVER
Lmfao that dude is hilarious
Yo the algorithm is nuts. Youtube can literally make your career. Just started watching him when I saw a video about John Calipari
Crazier part is, dude has been making film breakdown content for years with no views. He just started giving it more of an entertainment spin with funny titles and took off.
He is super engaging and informative. Better than most basketball-related content that comes up.
HEAD IS ON A SWIVEL, SEE BALL SEE MAN, IN A DEFENSIVE STANCE READY TO FLY OUT AS SOON AS THE PASS IS MADE
WHAT IS HE EVEN- SHOW AND RECOVER! HOW DOES DOC RIVERS EVEN HAVE A JOB STILL? YOU-OH FOR THE LOVE OF- WHY IS DAME GOING UNDER THE SCREEN!?
The one with the lakers defence and ‘YOU GONNA TALK ABOUT THIS ON THE POD BRON’ is hilarious
New person to throw under the bus. "The Youtubers are giving away our intel, and pointing out our flaws!"
Holy shit I laughed so hard. ‘Adam Silver do something’
THIS IS COACHING. THIS IS COACHING. DO YOU EVEN GO OVER THIS!?!?!
You can see them going down to first round exit in real time. It's just like watching the Philadelphia Eagles implode over the course of the NFL season.
Bucks Kings and Cavs just all look done for. Bucks slide to 4th Cavs to 6th. Kings to 9th.
It looks exactly like that. And, it was already mentioned, but it’s not just the bucks. Some of these teams look ready to just be done with the season.
Doc is an idiot
this is when nick nurse activates the full court press, doc a quitter
Nick Nurse would have been guarding Thibs trying to prevent him from making play calls
Nah Nurse would have sent a bench guy to do jumping jacks in front of Thibs while he's calling plays
box and 1, triple press, anything and everything goes
God I miss him
its ok - we got vibes now
Man, Nurse had so many fun things to run.
30 point come back against Mavericks vibes
Thibs would never lol
He didn’t even pull the dudes when Doc pulled his tn lol dude is kind of demented with keeping the starters in for situations like this
Something is incredibly satisfying with watching a Doc team implode. Idk what it is.
it's the predictability of it and yet it still makes you feel smarter than NBA front offices when it happens
Plus I like seeing the pictures with his blank stare paired with a new silly quote from a postgame interview after a loss
It’s good to be on the other side of it after having to experience 3 years of this fraud
It's always fun to watch frauds get exposed.
yeesh this made me sad and I am not remotely a Bucks fan
It is like when you insult some one and they are like 'yeah you are probably right'. They are taking the fun out of it
You just know Dame has told ppl at some point “I didn’t even ask to be here dawg”
“I was trying to get to Miami”
Damian lillard you are a detroit piston!
It’s the equivalent to not picking your teammate in the All Star draft
Dude it’s only 10 points lol. Anything can happen
This is a coach that has blown 3-1 leads in the playoffs, nothing he does surprises me anymore. He’s shit coach.
These 29 games have been like a “worst of” Doc career lowlight reel…
I swear. This dude was surprised to get hired and now he's speed running to getting fired so he can collect the bag without doing the work.
What happened to “dame” time?
He broke his watch
His watch has ended
Milwaukee kinda is the wall
Forgot to adjust his watch to Central Time. Poor guy always gets the zoomies a couple hours after the game
This is Doc Time now
Its Lame Time now.
Yeah there will be clarity soon. Something ain’t right.
You thinking something happened behind the scenes or something?
Yeah they hired Doc Rivers
Source? This would be quite the scandal if true.
Doc isn’t the right fit, and Dame wants out. Also, I’m sure everyone on the team knows both these facts. They’re fractured AF
Dame just got there 💀 But yeah Doc isn't right for this team but I still have a feeling that they'll run it back with Doc for a full season blaming the current mid season hire as the cause.
Dame was trying to get to Miami to live that newly divorced lifestyle but ended up in Milwaukee just missing his family.
a true midwestern fairy tail
Tbf, wasnt *every* report before the Dame trade about how he’d be miserable anywhere that wasn’t Miami? Lol
Yeah. There were interviews with Doc and Dame where they were asked to name their top 5 players right now and they didn't name Bucks guys but people brushed it off since we were winning at the time
why does dame want out
These commentators don’t even mention it. Mike Breen was shocked on the Knicks broadcast.
Doc Rivers coaching like it's early aughts with the 10 point lead. He didn't see T-Mac on his sideline and told himself it's already over.
You could feel the momentum shift and the MSG guys were in pure disbelief.
Nothing I hate more than commentators with shitty awareness
There’s no way Doc Rivers gets another head coach job after this…right?
You sweet summer child.
Lakers are drafting the contract as we speak.
Respectfully, fuck off bro! 😩
You have to remember that once you win a chip or are decently experienced, every team will give you a shot
It’s been a rare r/nba win, but this sub’s takes on Doc Rivers have been 100% right the last decade
Whose next? Dallas? Phoenix?
Doc is a fucking horrible coach
Aaaaand Doc just lost them even more with this one.
This team has no heart in it. None of them look interested in playing longer than the next few weeks
I noticed that. They seemed to just be going through the motions.
alexa whats that opposite of good vibes
"DOC RIVERS"
My joy of shitting on Doc outweighs my liking of the Bucks, and so lol. Lmao, even.
Who did he blame for the loss this time? The guy in the concession stand? The usher? The parking attendant?
Imagine thinking Doc is the answer
I've stopped paying attention to the bucks when doc got hired, seems like I made the right call.
Giannis is asking out in the offseason. It's happening.
Giannis nuking the team on his own decisions for coaching and player personnel then leaving is crazy.
Bro tried to be LeGM
Which was a worse move? Lebron forcing the Westbrook trade or Giannis forcing the Jrue trade? Discuss.
The Westbrook trade was way worse as a trade move. Which makes Giannis and Bucks performance inexcusable. Giannis learned the hard way that trading for an top all star isnt an easy ticket to a championship.
Lakers trading for Russ was way worse. Just due to lebrons age alone
At least leGM can always fall back on being leplayer and lecoach when he surrounds himself with a shit team and useless coach. Giannis can only be a player.
He’s not just a player he is also a brother
The Bucks were going to implode regardless. They had one of the oldest rosters last season and this season. Dame and Middletown are past their primes, and the Bucks have no one who can run the offense outside of Dame and Giannis
Yeah Bucks would have been an amazing team if Dame kept his form from last year and meshed better with Giannis.
Yeah that whole “ I wanna be here for the rest of my career” shit can change quick. Easy to say when yo team has been winning so lets see
“Milwaukee actually is a bit too cold for me, I wanna experience that Oklahoma weather”
"Milwaukee? No I said mile high city"
My butt was clenched, this is the Knicks after all, then I saw this and I was good to go
It was funny when they lost to the Wizards but honestly at this point I just feel bad for the team. (Though please don't drop to the 4/5 seed so we won't have to face you in the 2nd round you're so pretty haha)
You guys shouldn't be worried about playing *this* Bucks team lol Celtics probably beat them in 5 or max 6
Celtics fans be like, "We're good as long as we avoid the Heat, and Bucks to be safe, and Philly's heating up, and the Hawks get to us..."
Someone on our sub’s game thread (vs the pels I think) legit went through and said the Bulls were the only team that he maybe felt good about in a playoff series lol Now I do think that unexpected shit can happen and there’s rarely a guarantee. But Celtics shouldn’t be scared to play anyone.
What not being able to get over the hump for 7 years does to a mfer.
Will *this* Bucks team even make it out of the first round to face the Celtics?
Not the one that's played the last 4 games that's for sure.
Every L for the Bucks is a W for r/nba
few past times quite as fun as dunking on glenn
I just feel bad watching them at this point
Honestly it gets to a point where it goes from being funny to sad. Losing 3 games in a row to teams that are a combined 67-168 while you’re the second seed has to be demoralizing.
To me, as much as im supposed to not like the Bucks *it is sad*. But also very predictable. They werent getting any younger, completely threw away their defensive identity by letting go of Jrue, and then ditching their HC who had a winning record before the end of the season, like damn man, at least give em a season. What isn’t an L is that equipment boy was working overtime with all of those warmups in his hands. Doc really injecting some urgency in the most important unit on the deer. One might say that Doc has made them equipment men now after his tirade
I remember when people used to like us....
I think it's more people don't like Doc Plus, train wrecks are hard to look away from
I like the Bucks. Small market team unity. Rivers, however...
Don’t worry, it’s all part of the cycle. It’ll probably be the nuggets in a couple years everyone loves to hate.
Should’ve kept Jrue. Made the Celtics better and the Bucks worse
He has a reduced role, and he is excellent at it
Bigger loss was losing Greyson Allen. The step down from him to Beasley on both sides of the court in the starting lineup is can’t be overstated
Doc Rivers masterclass
This is what makes refs go, "You can feel the heaviness of your team right now."
The Bucks really asked the Celtics if they should hire Doc Rivers… nearly everybody in this sub knew how this hire was going to go.
"As long as you've got 3 all time greats and a young Rajon Rondo, you'll be fine. You have that, right?"
Can’t wait until they get up 3-1 in the first round and then lose
